Brickbat: Big Scam

Victoria Baca called the New Mexico state police to report an Internet scam she had fallen victim to. Officials told her they couldn't immediately send an officer, so she asked them to call before coming. Instead, an officer came by without calling while she and her family were gone. The officer jumped a fence with a "Beware of Dog" sign and shot and killed one of the family's dogs. State police officials say the officer was acting in self defense and no action will be taken against him.

  1. And nothing else happened.

  2. why didn’t state police officials blame the dog for the internet scam while they were at it? Then they could say the dog dies while resisting arrest

    1. Considering the high rate of canine deaths by cop, I think “Stop Resisting” is one of the most important tricks to teach your dog.

  3. Clearly this canine internet scammer would have stolen the officer’s identity and run off to the Caribbean were it not for the heroic decision this officer made to protect the public.

  4. I guess anytime you ask the police to call before showing up, it must set a red flag with them to suspect you of wrongdoing. If you are ready to receive the police at any time, you don’t have anything to worry about.

  5. OK wow that actually makes a lot of sense dude.

  6. “To protect and serve.”

    1. Well the police certainly do serve warrants with gusto, and do a great job protecting their own bad apples.

      1. 99% of cops give the rest a bad name.

  7. It makes me wonder why people call cops for anything other than to remove the dead bodies, after you have taken care of the situation on your own. For something like this, you probably should go to the police station, for fido’s sake.

    1. It makes me wonder why people call cops for anything

Because they don’t know any better, and actually believe that silly notion that police are there to help them.

      1. I “Hear, hear!” both of the above. The older I get and the more I learn and the less naive I become I am rapidly coming to believe that the best way to get yourself arrested is to call the cops for ANY reason. They are not there to actually act on your behalf unless your last name is “Bloomberg”…

  8. How is self defense a viable option when he was trespassing?

    1. Because “fuck you”, that’s why.

    2. It’s the “Stand Somebody Else’s Ground” law.

      1. I’m gonna go invade someone’s castle, then shoot them and claim castle doctrine.

  9. The drudges that make up the bulk of state security functionaries are drawn from the same brutish class from whence derive the bulk of violent criminals. They are slightly less imaginative.
