New Poll: Brown v Warren Tied in MA Senate Race
Harvard Law professor Elizabeth Warren may find her voice in the Senate should she beat Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown this November. A new poll from the New Hampshire Survey Center says she might.
The poll contacted 544 likely voters in Massachusetts and found that the special advisor to the Dodd-Frank-created Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), is in a statistical tie with the first-term incumbent senator. Brown leads with 37 percent of voters to Warren's 35 percent, with 26 percent undecided. This is well within the +/- 4.2 percent margin of error for the poll.
Interestingly, Brown leads among independents with 42 percent to Warren's 14 percent. A plurality, 44 percent said Warren would do more to help "working people"; however, more voters see Brown as a strong leader (43 percent to 31 percent), and nearly half say Brown has the most bipartisan appeal, while 27 percent said the same about Warren. This may be reflected by the Obama administration's inability to appoint Warren to the CFPB amid strong criticism from financial institutions and Republicans in Congress. 57 percent of likely voters think Brown is most likable, compared to 23 percent who say so of Warren.
In terms of demographics, young people ages 18-34 are more likely to support Warren with 39 percent to Brown's 26 percent. However, the age cohort right above from 35 to 49 supports Brown 37 percent to Warren's 25 percent. Warren leads among those making less than $60,000 a year, 40 percent to 29 percent, and those with post-graduate degrees 50 percent to 28 percent. Brown leads among those making more than 60,000 a year. Men are about 10 percentage points more likely to vote for Brown, as are women for Warren.

Tied to what?
Your Mom.
Oh.
Snap.
God I hate Elizabeth Warren. Every interview I have seen with her has been veritably nonsensical. It's as if she knows absolutely nothing about economics or finance.
She is therefore eminently capable of representing the residents of my fine upstanding state.
The voters here hate rich people, and love people with book larnin' who tell them with big fancy words why rich people suck.
This, unfortunately. Whenever I hear people here talk about politics or economics, I miss my NC days more and more.
Mass voters are right out of that Direct TV ad for their DVR where they all incessantly say "The Hoppa". The bad furniture, the accents, grandpa living in the basement, that is Mass to a T. And yeah, they love their book learning elites to tell them how to vote.
The majority of Mass voters are right out of that Direct TV ad for their DVR where they all incessantly say "The Hoppa". We're not ALL stupid around here. However, that commercial is hilarious.
I don't know the people in the commercial are necessarily stupid. They are just exactly like that. My wife is from the North Shore.
I meant stupid as in voting habits.
Re: mr simple,
You can go ahead and say it: She's a dumb bitch whose popularity can only be explained by the banality and stoopidity of those who are direct result of the Amerikan Pulbic Skool Seestem.
FIFY
I attribute this to my recent $50 donation to Mr. Brown.
(Hey, Ma! I'm registered!)
This is because young Massachusettians fantasize with her middle-age-elementary school teacher looks while they cannot get around Brown's Playgirl photos.
No. It is those who live in their parents' house or otherwise don't have to pay their own bills, love her. Those who do, not so much.
The problem is that the poll does not seem to differentiate between your Massachusettians who work and pay their bills and those that play COD-MW3 all day in their moms' basements.
So, Pelosi was on Charlie Rose last night, anybody catch that? Warren reminds me of a less sophisticated Pelosi- yep, I know.
Infuriating.
I missed the Pelosi appearance, but made up for it with a vigorous bowel movement this morning.
Unfortunately, Intrade is still showing about a 20-point lead by Warren.
Intrade is nonsense. I don't know who is going to win. But I guarantee you Intrade doesn't either.
Sorry, the mob doesn't have the magical ability to predict.
Wanna bet?
Sure. What reason is there to believe that it is right? What is the mechanism that allows 1000 obsessive people spending money to in the aggregate have more foresight than one?
It is not a poll. There is nothing scientific about it. It is a bunch of self selected people guessing. I fail to see how the aggregate of their guesses is any more accurate than each individual guess.
For certain things, the Wisdom of the Crowd makes sense, and on the balance of probabilities, sticking with Conventional Wisdom is going to make you right more often than not.
For particular things (i.e. Obamacare ruling), it is worthless.
To me it is just conventional wisdom, which is a lagging indicator at best.
Question, what was the chances of obamacare being upheld trading at before last week's argument? Just a guess but I bet it was pretty high and a lot higher than it is now.
Have you no sense of humor, man?
Sorry. I should have picked that up.
Didn't they also have Martha Coakley winning big up until about two or three days before the election?
From what I recall, polling was within the margin of error, so it was essentially a dead heat. No one here believed Brown could do it. I think Coakley just took the competition too lightly, got lazy, and allowed Brown to run a nearly flawless campaign.
I also remember seeing more Scott Brown signs everywhere, even in the relatively liberal areas of the state (yes, they exist) and more pro-Brown talk on every Boston forum. Obviously this was anecdotal, but I was completely surprised and delighted when he won.
I'm mainly testing me being newly logged in, but, on this topic, talk about a textbook case of the evil of two lessers!
Ruthless! Welcome back.
Now that we have registration, does that mean the character limit can be removed?
No.
Next question?
It's now going to be hard to make joke posts by Obama, Al Gore, Olbermann, et al. Bummer.
Character limit is back to 1500.
Well, since Warren is only managing to be tied by having a big lead among young voters, we should expect her to lose when those young voters don't show up to vote.
Welcome to Ron Paul's world, Betty.
But it is so hard to go vote. We had a flash mob pillow fight at like two in the morning last night. That kind of shoots you for the whole day.
23 year old MA resident. Currently still registered in VT. If I'm officially switched by fall I'll take a closer look and either vote Brown or whoever the libertarian candidate is.
Since I can't edit my posts (even as a registered user!), here's a bit of additional info:
Male, with a post-grad degree, and making more than 60k a year.
Privilege!
Considering I grew up on a farm (which I worked until college), and now make more than the other 4 members of my family combined, I wouldn't say that privileged.
23-year old MA resident as well. I'm in the same predicament as you: vote for Brown, the LP candidate, or write-in. One thing's for damn sure: Warren does not have my vote whatsoever.
I'd like to know what Warren's tax rate is, since she's so obsessed with everyone paying Their Fair Share.
I'd bet t'ree-fiddy she uses every goddamn tax break her accountant can find.
She does. And she makes mid six figures from a tax exempt organization. The state is going broke and Harvard is sitting on what $28 billion the earnings of which are all tax exempt. But I don't think that is the 1% she is talking about.
True... in Team Bluespeak, only non-liberals can be in the "top 1%".
They need to start breaking down these votes by income tax payers vs. non tax payers.
Newsletter or pamphlet?
Someone is angry about having to register. Suck it bitch.
Well, that didn't take long.
Ha ha ha!!!
Somebody took bitchy pills this morning!!
She is on the morning links as puppet master. She is so obvious. Lets see if Reason does something about it.
Actually, yes.
Justice demands that we hate the wicked every bit as much as it demands that we like the good.
And now - FILTER NAME
If this is the best you can do, it shows how impotent you really are.
Poor Mary. I am the only one left on here who will talk to you. I am the only one who cares. I am the only one who feels the pain of all the broken relationships you have had and how sad an lonely your life is.
I wish someone would have gotten you the help you needed when you were young and it might have done some good. But maybe they tried and they just couldn't get through. I am sure some of them who tried are almost as sad as you are about how things turned out.
Glad to see you back, John.
