Supreme Court Hears Day One of Obamacare Oral Arguments, Majority of Economists Want Fed to Hold Off on Quantitative Easing, Raúl Castro Tells The Pope Cuba Has Religious Freedom: P.M. Links
-
As you definitely already knew, today was the first day of Supreme Court oral arguments and the conclusion was that a decision should happen this summer. Here's a transcript. And here's a Washington Post live chat with Cato's Ilya Shapiro on the subject.
- Survey of economists says: Please no more money printing this year, Fed.
- Rick Santorum on the steps of the Supreme Court today: Romney is "uniquely disqualified to make the case" against Obamacare. Also, Santorum would totally accept a VP position under Romney.
- Trayvon Martin killing and subsequent nationwide freak-out update: Martin was suspended from school for marijuana possession.
- Raúl Castro tells the Pope not to worry, religious freedom is guaranteed in the Cuban Constitution. You know, just like with freedom of speech.
- Headlines: "Southern California medical marijuana delivery man attacked by ninjas."
- What did you do today? Go to work? Come home? James Cameron came back from the Mariana Trench, loser.

Headline typo: economics -> economists.
I am not a crank.
For someone who called Global Warming Deniers "boneheads", James Cameron certainly has a pretty big carbon footprint.
How dare you question your bettors, Aresen. How fucking dare you!
I don't question my bettors. I just take their money when they lose the bet.
As for "betters", I have none.
In James Cameron's defense, it's not his own carbon footprint he opposes.
It's yours.
I knew I spelled it incorrectly. I was just testing you. And you passed...this thyme.
Titanic will still suck in 3D.

Lucy, the Fed does not "print" money. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing does. The Fed buys those notes from the Treasury.
All this is very confusing to Paultards. The Fed has a pristine balance sheet. Of course they ought to have one.
Metaphorically the Fed does print money, of course. They earned $75 billion last year for taxpayers.

It's amazing how shrike can type while giving a handjob to Paul Krugman.
She posted a link to a pro-Obama website that had her email address in the link. From there the email was linked to rather and White Indian (and possibly shrike). She has a private blog (sinville-sinville.blogspot.com), a Blogger username (sinville), a deleted Twitter account (mstack60, but she hasn't gotten to these yet, though), and everything connects to one Mary Stack of Ft. Worth.
She is also possibly shrike. In any case, her address, phone, two email addresses, pictures, and more are now known. It hasn't made her go away yet, but one can always hope.
Re: shrike,
shrike, it's obviously a metaphor.
There's indeed a lot of confusion but it is not embodied by Paulian enthusiasts, shrike.
So was Bernie's.

Oh, well, fuck. That makes it all good.
There is no dollar devaluation going on then. Robert Mugabe isn't using the once-mighty dollar to wipe his ass then?

$10,000 to the brotha or sista who bring me any cracka who report on Trayvon gettin busted fo weed or publish a recent picture of he!
SORRY I HAD A FIGHT IN YOUR BLACK PANTHER PARTY.
This cannot be!
According to Tulpa, not one Reason reader takes Zimmerman's side in this dispute out of racism.
Therefore, I cannot possibly have read the above post.
Save us, Landrew!
Ahhh! Look at what you've done!
She'll be enacting her Festival is the Will of the People bill at any time!

That settles it, then. He deserved to die. I also heard he had gold teeth and tattoos! *faints*
He was also suspended for vandalism and was found with stolen jewelry and burglary tools in his possession.
But in the best news of the day, his mama is attempting to tradmark "I am Trayvon" and "Justice for Trayvon".
You say mah baby name! Datta be tree fiddy!
Stay classy, Mary Stack.
Ha, bitch! We already gots "We All Trayvon"!
Writing "WTF" on a locker is vandalism? A screwdriver is "burglary tools?"
Someone fetch this "man" a fainting couch, quickly!
Compared to that penny-ante bullshit, my high school career a veritable crime-spree.
It is apparently so important to remind white people that they can never absolve themselves of their guilt, that the left is dusting off the previously "racist" arguments of fiscal conservatives against foreign aid.

Bonus: A commenter named ivan called them out on it. Any bets as to how long he has an account?
Perhaps, I shouldn't say this since I did take an fly in an airplane earlier this week and have a computer, iphone and ipad?but I'm going to say it anyway: sometimes, when you are trying to help my "people," you're being a fucking racist.
I can't tell what this writer wants to happen: ban iPhones and refuse to help any person of colour I might see in need?
In the comments a person of colour says the fact interracial adoptions happen nowadays is a good thing, and gets shouted down by someone else.
In the feministing universe, it's racist for a white person to choose to adopt an unwanted child who isn't lily white.

Survey of economists says: Please no more money printing this year, Fed.
Hoo-hoooo, yeah, that's a good one, what with our insane government still accumulating $1.5 trillion of national debt a year and the total interest on that debt rapidly approaching half a trillion dollars a year, even with interest rates about as low as they can be.
In other words, it's going to be easing today, easing tomorrow, and easing forever, or at least until the dollar is destroyed. Better get used to it.
Why men can't - and shouldn't - stop staring at women
http://www.theglobeandmail.com.....le2379872/
But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
In a surprising twist, modern feminists seem to really like this aspect of the teachings of Jesus, where he equates looking with longing at a woman other than your wife to a capital crime.
Oh, it's bad to stare at women! Very bad! Don't do it - ever! It will make you blind!
How about we just say, "It's a free country" instead?
It's not a free country for women who aren't of privilege who will have to endure Fluffy's piercing gaze.
Details that catch my attention: lively calves, French blue puff skirts with white polka dots, red shoes, dark skin, olive skin, pale skin, lips (various shapes), curly hair (to my surprise). A pretty girl with too much bottom squeezed into her yoga pants ? and, mysteriously, twice as sexy for the effort. A slim blond in enormous sunglasses carrying a banana peel as if it were a memo. An expensively dressed and tanned woman climbs out of a taxi, so vivacious I panic and can't look at her. Slim girls, curvy girls; signs of health, hints of quiet style. Coloured headbands. A rollerblader in white short shorts does nothing for me: Her look is the sexual equivalent of shopping at Wal-Mart.
Greater poetry has never been penned. Clearly this is a man after my own heart, right down to the sexual ambivalence towards inline skates.
Martin was suspended from school for marijuana possession.
Clearly this proves Zimmerman's story. Everyone knows there's nothing more dangerous than someone hopped up on goofbalsl!
Both such decent human beings, caught up in unfortunate circumstances.
A tragedy, a tragedy, ....

Found a sad nutpunch from Balko's agitator to demotivate the rest of your day:

Father gunned down by police in front of son after reacting violently to them taking his 2 y.o. away. Apparently the dad was close to getting full custody.
According to court records, the child is now in a foster care home and his future remains uncertain.
Sorry, comments disabled.
White guy? Meh.
YAWN... ATFPAPIC, you lunge at me with a knife, you very well may get shot
the court order sounds a little ridiculous, but that's tangential to the deadly force issue
fwiw, i have had to go on a couple of calls to remove a child from a home via court order
in both cases, it was cPS that got the order. we just go along as backup
and both times were vERY volatile. a parent naturally gets extremely emotional in such a situation. i could have easily seen either time turn deadly. i made sure in both cases i kept an eye on the parent and didn't allow them to access a weapon. better to prevent a tragedy than respond to one
Yeah, I have to say I can't fault the police here.
They can't adjudicate the justice of the order on the spot.
If you decide to resist CPS violently, you better be prepared either to die in the attempt, go to prison for murder, or completely to topple the government of the United States. Those are the only three possible endings.
The social workers and cops go home.
The kid will suffer for the rest of his life.
absolutely. a tragedy, and likely the shootee was acting under some sort of diminished capacity.
optimal would be the cop, the CPS worker aND the father get out of the situation unharmed
and of course if the cop disarmed the man with the knife (i've done this before w/o shooting anybody, we would never read about it in reason, because it would be just another police call w/o even a press release.
Guess we have to rename it from Friday nutpunch to daily nutpunch.
Already been done.
Yawn. Who do you think dug the Mariana Trench?
Presumably mermaids, and probably as a place to do their mermaid murders.
Wrong! It was the industrialists of the Industrial Age, using industry!
And here I thought it was the titan Oceanus inventing the original fleshlight.

Oh Danica, much like MARY STACK you never finish!
"Crushing Vaginas" would make a killer band name. Maybe a side project if Nashville Pussy breaks up?

An interesting photo from the Facebook page of a group calling themsemves "Veterans Against Occupy Wall Street." Not that it sheds any new light on how the Zimmerman/Martin kerfuffle unfolded, but it definitely exposes the media's chosen narrative here.
Ontario Appeal Court strikes down ban on brothels
Solicitation is still illegal (for some reason), but brothels and hiring staff for brothels will be A-OK in Ontario if the government doesn't come up with an amended law that passes the Charter in the next 12 months.
I saw this earlier.
It still has to go to the Supreme Court of Canada.
Tough to say what the feds will do. Harper is a socon, but this is not really an issue that there is big feeling either way. Since the Picton case, there has been a acceptance that sex workers do need protection, which was the rationale for the court's decision, so Harper could just stay out of the issue altogether.
(Lots of squirrel activity today... this is my 3rd attempt to post this)
I don't get how a law banning speech (solicitation) passes Charter scrutiny, but the others don't. Seem backwards to me.
If it goes to the Supreme Court, can they re-examine the solicitation law?
The SCOC is already OK with campaign finance laws and laws banning cigarette ads, so I don't see them flinching about laws that ban solicitation of sex.

Rick Santorum on the steps of the Supreme Court today: Romney is "uniquely disqualified to make the case" against Obamacare.
Interesting quote. Seems to me Romney might be uniquely qualified considering that he can stand there and say it was a mistake like no one else can.
Here's my favorite Rick Santorum quote of all time:
"I am not a libertarian, and I fight very strongly against libertarian influence within the Republican Party and the conservative movement."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?f.....LQnoVpkyqc
That's all I needed to know, Rick. Your posturing against government involvement in our lives in the form of ObamaCare doesn't count for shit.
But thanks for being honest, Rick. Hope you're soon forgotten.
"Southern California medical marijuana delivery man attacked by ninjas."
Sounds like viral marketing for the upcoming remake of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It was never said outright, but everyone understood why they craved so much pizza.
I'm confused. Are we all rather now?
Also, I like James Cameron a lot more now.
I hear she moves like jagger
I'm on the bad side of fifty...course I move like Jagger!
Parkinsons doncha know!
hilarious
Trayvon Martin killing and subsequent nationwide freak-out update: Martin was suspended from school for marijuana possession.
I fail to see the relevance, other than some kind of smear.
In this article on MSN, the reporter writes:
"The question hinged on the justices accepting the contention that the penalty is effectively a tax. After hearing Monday's argument, Williams reported that 'there didn't seem to be a single member of the Supreme Court that bought that argument.'"
Help me out: is that a good sign, or a bad one?
IANAL, etc...
One of the courts which 'upheld' Obamacare did so based on the presumption that it was a tax, so to that court it was important that it be seen as such in defense of the law.
I think it's slightly good. It means they'll have to get creative when considering how to rubber stamp this unconstitutional power.
I read through most of the transcript from today (exceedingly painful, esp. for a non-lawyer).
They spend most of the day talking about jurisdiction and whether the court had the authority to hear the case (still don't quite understand the terms completely but I did not bother to look them up). The idea was there are some Acts or Initiatives that say courts can't hear cases in advance that involve issues with taxes, they must wait for the people to ask the IRS or whomever for the money back and wait 6 months before filing suit. Sounds like most of them agree the court can hear it, although Chief Justice told the gov.'t lawyer he did a good job of presenting his side. Maybe that was just politeness.
"Sounds like most of them agree the court can hear it, although Chief Justice told the gov.'t lawyer he did a good job of presenting his side."
If this was the lawyer presenting the Anti-Injunction Act argument, it seems no one was willing to take that on voluntarily and the lawyer had to be *appointed* to do so by SCOTUS.
Under those conditions, it's no surprise that a justice thanked him.

Time for your daily dose of liberal bullshit. Here is how the average Obama supporter reacts when confronted with a knowledge deficit:
http://www.fark.com/comments/7.....r-Ron-Paul
I wish the study had analysed libertarians. Do we secret more or less moisture than liberals or conservatives?
secrete
From the linked link:
"Conservatives may not like liberals, but they seem to understand them. In contrast, many liberals find conservative voters not just wrong but also bewildering."
This isn't surprising. Most of the MSM is 'liberal' at least; anyone reading a 'paper' (remember those), watching broadcast or most cable TV is constantly subject to the liberal PoV. You have to search for conservative views, let alone libertarian views.
And yet liberals claim they know all about what others think.
I think it is easy to comprehend how conservatives can understand liberals but not vice-versa. Conservatives were liberals when they were very young, but grew out of it.
I thought they knew that when they beat a distraught person who wanted to ride in the ambulance with their mother after she had a seizure, they were supposed to make sure the witnesses were either intimidated or arrested as well.
Of course, the PD is saying it was justified. In a later report, the impartial witnesses vehemently disagreed. As usual, the police refused to name the officers involved in the beating. I guess "they have families" works for them.

A: Feminists aren't capable of changing a light bulb!!!!
Changing a light bulb is an act of penetration and violation akin to rape. No feminist would ever change a light bulb.
