Gingrich Delivers Stump Speech at CPAC
Washington, D.C. – Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich speechified about "bold solutions" to close out the second day of CPAC. His speech was so close to what he delivers on the campaign trail that some in the media room Bloggers Lounge groaned that there was nothing new in his speech.
"This is straight from the campaign trail. I've heard this all before," one grumbled.
The crowd reacted differently giving him long applause and standing ovations throughout the speech. It was a very different scene compared to Rick Santorum's speech earlier in the day. Santorum was received warmly; Gingrich made them roar.
While Santorum's speech zeroed in on social issues, Gingrich focused on reviving the American economy with a multipoint plan that included proposals to lower the corporate income tax to 12.5% and reform the unemployment system.
"Unemployment compensation should be changed so you sign up for a business led training program. Never again should we pay somebody for 99 weeks for doing nothing. In 99 weeks you can earn an associate's degree," he said.
In the remainder of his speech Gingrich did not attack the other Republican candidates including Mitt Romney, who spoke before him. Gingrich is the only candidate at CPAC with a campaign booth in the exhibit hall.

Time to go!
Res, you magnificent bastard. Merci - ayez un bon weekend...
THAT.
Wondering if anyone's watching "Justified". I LOVE that show. Even more than "Breaking Bad", which is the only other serial I watch.
Good plots, and the beginning is always "highly actional", as my son says.
That dude who plays Boyd Crowder is excellent. EXCELLENT.Timothy Olyphant looked a lot bigger in "Hitman" - he's a skinny dude.
Anybody else a fan? Anybody hate it?
I'm almost through the 1st season. They've obviously put the brakes on Raylan shooting people, with episodes about stuff like a beautiful trophy wife, art forgery, and so forth. I like it well enough and plan to get caught up, but I can't say I like it better than Breaking Bad.
They are the worst law enforcement agents in the world, though. They love to beat and intimidate people to get what they want.
Maybe that's why Boyd is my favorite guy on the show. Sure, he's a fiend, but since he's a criminal, I don't mind that he's hurting people.
Agreed on the shithead cop thing - I, too, like Boyd. He's deliciously evil. And his wife, cause she's country hot.
Just a reminder not to patronize Reason Magazine. I normally have it blocked, but opened it up because someone linked me to yet another new article by a Reason contributor bashing Paul, this time by war propagandist Cathy Young. The article is full of drivel and is not worth reading by anyone possessing active brain cells. This is the same woman who shilled for the Iraq war in these very pages in 2003 and is now attacking Paul as an isolationist.
This from the magazine that was practically ground zero for the newsletter smears and whose coverage of Paul has been spotty at best. Until Reason fires Cathy Young, Dave Weigel, and Julian Sanchez at the very least, they are no friend of liberty.
It's sad what became of Reason. I subscribed to the print version in the 90s as a young libertarian. Now it's just trash. I'm boycotting and hope everyone else does too.
I only read the comments anyway.
Thanks for the advice, Bubble Boy.
Pretty much the response I expected. It's not like the main stream media doesn't do a good enough job spreading misinformation and spin. I hardly live in a bubble. But, I expect a little more from a so-called 'libertarian' magazine.
Most libertarians have long ago stopped reading Reason anyway. It no longer speaks for the movement. I'm just here to clue in the few who still don't get it.
Right on! Man, for magazine called REASON....
Amirite or amirite, Ron?
I'm so glad Ron stopped by to tell us all who does and does not "speak for the movement." I guess in your mind not constantly blowing Ron Paul means not part of the movement? If you actually took the time to read what gets posted here and printed in the magazine you would find the coverage of Paul to be pretty balanced, because like libertarians everywhere some like Ron Paul and some don't. But I guess that's asking to much of someone like you.

Seriously, when are they going to fire Weigel?
And did you guys see last night's episode of Lost? It had such strange occurrences!
I cannot WAIT for season 7!!
You had me going until the Weigal reference. And I think you mean Michael Young, not Cathy.

Consistency? In Gingrich's case, that's a step in the right direction.
Aren't there enough people out there with useless degrees? I have a BS and MS in Computer Science. If I ever ended up in a position of being long term unemployed, I find it hard to believe that throwing an associates degree into the mix is going to change that.
""I find it hard to believe that throwing an associates degree into the mix is going to change that.""
No kidding.
I wonder if Newt was a lobbyist for Salle Mae?
I'm happy to see Ron Paul not wasting his time at CPAC. He needs stay out in the real world preaching the gospel to people who matter.
The way the GOP keeps cycling through front-runners shows just how interchangeable the others are. I figure it can only help for him to distance himself from them even further.

I just use it as an excuse to DRINK!
For a magazine called 'libertarian'...
The only stump speech I want to hear from Newt is one ending with the sound of an axe connecting with the stump.
You know, after having passed through his neck.
Look, it's not funny if I have to explain it.
In this case, I'm going to allow the ELIMINASHUNIST RHETORICKSS!!!!!1!!
lol, jsut another bought and paid for corrput pompous windbag!
