Could Ron Paul Win Maine?
Washington, D.C. – Before trekking down to CPAC I asked Ron Paul's national campaign chair why the Texas congressman was skipping out on a convention that the other candidates are attending. His quick one sentence response:
Too much campaigning to do across the country.
Paul's absence is notable at this CPAC because in previous years he has packed the place with supporters to assure that he would win the meaningless straw poll, often paying their way. His campaign website calendar does not list any events through Sunday but in a follow up email Benton said that Paul will be in Maine this weekend.
Meanwhile, in Vacationland, speculation is running rampant that Paul could win the caucuses on Saturday. In 2008 Paul finished third in Maine, just three points behind eventual nominee John McCain. Romney won Maine with 52% of the vote. Paul won the northernmost county, Arostook.
If Paul wins Maine it will validate his caucus strategy and likely lead to a surge in campaign donations. It does not mean that Paul is suddenly a serious contender for the GOP nomination as Paul has styled his run more as a movement-building campaign. It would be Paul's first time winning a state in any of his presidential runs.
While a Paul victory brings him closer to his goal of having some serious leverage at the nominating convention in Tampa, it also helps his rivals Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich by creating another problem for Romney. On paper Maine is a state that Romney should win easily and not have to campaign or spend resources in. Paul's strong grassroots operation has forced him to campaign there when he could be spending time and money in states where his support, historically, is not as strong.

With the two lovelies the good people of Maine chose to send to the Senate, how could someone like Ron Paul be appealing to them?
I found a great dating bisexual site DATEBI*C'O'M. It is a serious& safe dating site for the bisexual and bi-
curious individuals to meet in a friendly and comfortable environment. It hopes that all members can make new
friends and establish romantic relationships. I have to say DATEBI*COM the best site I have ever joined so far.
They verify all members. Unlike other sites,NO scammers or fake profiles here, and you can meet many rich or mature
women as well, including celebs, famous stars.BEST OF LUCK!
inventor of shag carpet made big pile.
Wait, rich or mature? Why not both?
Strictly speaking, "or" can mean one, or the other, or both.
The toothless trailer trash welfare chislers of Maine don't vote in the caucuses so Paul only neds to reach a tiny minority of the electorate.
I think you might be surprised how many of pill poppers from The County show up this year.
They like to piss of the GOP?
I just wanted to be the first to call out this article for ahwt it is, A whiney reporter who's almost crying because of Pauls success. You suck Garret Quinn. HIT PIECE.

Weird, you made the same typo when you typed it a second time.
More to the point, my first guess is that this is a spoof of thin-skinned Paul supporters.
The other Kenneth beat you to it.
What's the frequency, Kenneth?
Why were there hourly debates last month and now none?
Why are there no phone polls and such giving likely outcomes as in every other state? I have not checked yet this AM but I assume if there were that Garrett would have discussed them here.
The answer is both mundane and simple... The MSM had absolutely no idea the race would go on this long and they blew the money they budgeted on the first four states.
I realize it's frustrating to a lot of Paul supporters to hear the "movement building" spiel. That's natural, people want to win.
But I would have to point out that from last time to this time, "movement building" unquestionably happened. If that incremental progress continues to 2016, who knows?
I'm not frudtrated. I've actually compared the libertarian-leaning movement in the GOP that's we've been seeing in the past few years to that of the Christian Right movement decades earlier. It didn't happen overnight and we'll probably see it rise in state capitols before it becomes an powerful force on the federal level.
MOMENTUM!!!
He'd better start winning something or this country's going to be at the mercy of Obama, Romney, Santorum or Gingrich, the Quadruplets of Disaster.
The Romney campaign is shaping up to be the biggest anti-climax since the first season of Star Trek The Next Generation.
That's a good one. I couldn't get into that series until Wesley Crusher left myself.
It's amazing how the addition of collars to the uniforms transformed a bad show into a good show.
Come on, a space navy without collars? I know we're supposed to be using a suspension of disbelief, but that is too far.
The collars were huge. An immediate visual cue that there's at least a small chance that the episode won't blow. A small chance.
Now if they'd worn sweater vests...
Oh please. Everyone knows it was the beard.
My wife is voting for him. I'm won't because I refuse to join any political party.
Just got off the phone with my mother and I think I may have converted her from Santorum to Paul.
Paul is much easier to stomach.
That's your reason for not voting for a candidate?
Only registered Republicans can vote in the caucuses.
Since I refuse to join either party I am ineligible to choose their candidate.
I am aware. I am saying that you refuse to vote for a candidate that you (I assume) agree with, just to maintain your "purity" by not registering?
I went NPA in FL because I don't want to be associated with either machine. Especially at the local level, I know and personally like several elected officials. But fuck me if I'm going to be associated with either state or national party. I don't agree with them.
Admittedly I vote in Vermont so I can just do so without worrying about it, but this view seems very spiteful to me (assuming there is a candidate in party X that you strongly agree with).
Thx 4 the help. Appreciate it.
I don't refuse to vote.
I refuse to join the stinking Republican party.
If I were allowed to vote without joining the party, then I would vote.
So you're saying not being an "icky" Republican is more important to you than voting for someone you care about.
Apparently you know nothing of principles.
That's OK. It puts you in the majority.
Because it would totally violate your principles to work to get someone that closely fits your principles elected if to do so requires *gulp* temporarily joining a political party (and then jumping ship shortly after the voting).
Explain the principle involved in refusing to join a political party.
I can understand refusing if you have no incentive to join. But to refuse when you have incentive (a candidate you actually support and even campaign for)-- that's stubbornness, not principle. You're clinging to your virginity.
And here is where I stopped reading, "It does not mean that Paul is suddenly a serious contender for the GOP nomination as Paul has styled his run more as movement building campaign." Paul already is a serious GOP contender for the nomination. What, do you think if he was to win the nomination, he would turn around and turn it down and say, "I wasn't seriously running..."? The fact that people like this author has to keep going out of their way to write up under-handed articles on Ron Paul and slip in these silly misleading statements is ridiculous. Ron Paul is running for the nomination of the GOP. Ron Paul is running to be president of the USA. Ron Paul is also running to continue a movement, this is a duality. Ron Paul is a top tier contender.
I'm living in the Twilight Zone. The country was founded by Libertarians. George Washington warned against party politics. Both parties, The Warfare Party, Big Government, Republicans and the Welfare Party. Big Government, Democrats have brought America to the brink of collapse.
And the Stupor Bowl culture is clammoring for more party politics.
We get searched at the airports and stadiums like criminals, they dictate at gunpoint how much money they can steal from us, and the banksters get off with felonies by just paying off the regulators and politicians.
I just don't get it.
Americans are obviously not interested in limited government and personal freedom.
The "Pro-tons of foreign aid for Israel and every other Tom, Dick and Country" MSM has done its best to beatdown Ron Paul supporters but it isn't going to work in the end.
It's either going to be Paul who treats everyone equally or Obama who will turn on Israel. By the way to all you Santorum supporters-
with all the aid we give Israel they have national healthcare and abortion is covered. Don't accuse people who don't support foreign aid as anti-Semite but consider what you support yourself.
The Paul campaign is trying everything on the margins to win as many delegates as possible. I've been looking at this page, and one of the most interesting things I noticed is that while almost all the contests are proportional, the Puerto Rico contest is a winner-take-all caucus. Last time, only ~500 people bothered voting there, and it's 23 delegates. I'm pretty sure it's perhaps the biggest target for Paul. It would be a pretty hilarious coup to get it, which should be quite feasible based on history and the campaign so far.
Oh, and it's even an open caucus. Slam dunk.
Screw the whole process. Even when we are down to only 4 people, they focus on bitchfighting between mittens and titties instead of issues for each candidate. I'd almost prefer for Ron Paul to call it for what it is and walk out of a debate. Screw civility surrounded by retards. I don't want to be on this planet anymore.
I've got a plan for that!
AGON hit 266/344/437 as 20yo at AA Portland and the Marlins sent him and 2 other guys to Texas for Urbina?
I thought Beinfest was smarter than that.
Is this Garrett Quinn guy serious? I don't want to wake him up to the fact that Ron Paul is a top-tier contender for the Republican nomination, but please, don't think us Paulbots are taken in by your SPIN article. BTW, there is plenty of time for the uneducated to read what Ron Paul is actually saying, so thanx for allowing us Paulbots to comment on your spin, to let others know where to get real info on Ron Paul. We'll see the results in November.
The GOP is PLAYING DIRTY!! NEW MAINE CAUCUSES FOR TOMORROW!!! (Announced TODAY!!) Spread it to the RON PAUL NATION!!!
