Newt Gingrich Stabs Gun Owners in the Back
In my inbox today, a message from Georgia Gun Owners who are grumpy about GOP darling of the day Newt Gingrich's record on gun control. They note his support for restrictions on the gun rights of people involved in misdemeanor domestic violence charges and the fact that he played nice with Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on gun-free school zone legislation.
"But the biggest knife that Newt plunged into the back of all Americans and gun owners who wish to defend themselves and their families, was his coming out in support of a national thumbprint database for gun owners," said [D.R. Leonard, Political Director of Georgia Gun Owners].
Hey, at least his choice of weapons is ideologically consistent!

Why do people think this tool is a more conservative alternative to Romney?
Because he stood up to Clinton and conservatives hate Clinton therefore Newt is AWESOME!
And that Clinton ground Newt into fine powder is conveniently ignored.
Well don't forget that Newt never really stood up to Clinton on anything significant and instead spent a lot of time talking about standing up to Clinton.
But hey, who cares about results when you have an established narrative to cling onto?
Eh, welfare reform is something. The House had to pass it about three times.
But yeah, Gingrich has always been more about being a rhetorical bomb thrower than actually turning that into action. When it comes time to act, he compromises.
Then Bush snorted that powder?
I hate both the Soviets and Nazis... and they stood up to each other... so therefore both are "awesome?" BLECH!
The only thing Newt can claim as a positive to his years as speaker is that total federal spending remained pretty flat from 1995 to 1999. And the deficit almost went to zero (or maybe it did) due to the tech bubble and the beginning of the housing bubble. Other than that everything he touches he has left an undesirable residue upon it. He should stick with the total government spending while he was speaker issue and just hammer that home. But alas, he won't.
They might as well give Boehner credit for the Tea Party's recalcitrance.
Beats me too.
Other than abortion and gay marriage, all the stuff that Romney is accused of flipflopping on Newt is equally guilty of.
They've had the same number of wives too.
No. Mitt and Ann Romney have been married to the same woman since 1969.
😉
Other than abortion and gay marriage...
That seals the deal for 2/3 of GOP voters right there.
Why do people think this tool is a more conservative alternative to Romney?
Because they are told he is.
Because he takes on the media and I don't the average person knows much about him.
What makes you think Romney is a conservative?
Don't be scared be prepared vote for freedom and liberty in 2012!
And remember freedom means freedom FROM government and the essence of that freedom is the proper LIMITATION of government, not the EXCESS of it.
Dr. Ron Paul For President!
Because Washington, DC needs an Enema
Thanks noone here has ever heard of this Ron Paul guy.
Seriously, he is pointing out that Gingrich is just as bad as Romney.
Might as well go spend your time posting this in a place that isn't already overwhelmingly supporting RP.
I really think Romney's biggest problem is his religion...
Which is puzzling, given that Newt converted to Catholicism a few years back and if there's one thing a baptist hates as much as a Mormon it's a papist.
What he^ said. And he's an "idea man".
Talk about stabbing, maybe this issue will finally put a fork in him with the redneck, tea party, Larry the cable guy loving, truck driving, christian claiming, Palin loving, whitetail poaching, Outdoor Channel watching, butt crack rubes who call themselves the GOP.
evil party > stupid party
Proud to be a redneck, tea party, Larry the cable guy loving, truck driving, christian claiming, Palin loving, whitetail poaching, Outdoor Channel watching, butt crack rube who call himself a LIBERTARIAN!!!
You sure you want to stick with the "Larry the cable guy" part?
I would take those guys who stand for something rather than people like you, someone who can only resort to name calling rather than dealing with issues.I bet your mom is so proud...now move out of her basement!
It's sad. I remember a year ago when people were talking about Obama not being re-elected, telling them not to underestimate republicans ability to nominate the worst possible candidate. I think I specifically mentioned Gingrich at the time. It's getting harder and harder to distinguish actual headlines from Onion articles.
No, the GOP has acted like Onion parody material for most of my life. Of course that just reinforces your point. [sigh]
Newt...a flip flopping political opportunist...well color me shocked?
I wonder what Jason Godesky thinks about this?
Dude?
Sorry! It's like a toothache...you keep sticking your tongue into the socket after the tooth is pulled.
...Beetlejuice!
......Beetlejuice!
.........Beetlejuice!
This is off-topic, but so typical.
I had some safety training at work today. The course was given by a guy who had been a police officer. At the end of class, he asked if anyone had any questions. Someone asked, "So why did you stop being a cop?"
He says it was because he was falsely accused of using excessive force on a juvenile.
He said that unfortunately all of the cameras that would have captured the incident and proven him innocent were broken.
Imagine that!
Tough break.
Did they have to use a defibrillator to revive you, or just good old-fashioned CPR?
"He says it was because he was falsely accused of using excessive force on a juvenile."
I have a feeling that "falsely accused" meant "overwhelming evidence against the defendant resulting in a civil suit being awarded to the victim". Most police forces don't just let someone go because they're accused of something.
In past campaigns whenever Newt spoke before the NRA it was always about hunting. the second amendment is not about the sport of hunting; hunting for food and protection plays a role. But, the second amendment is fundamentally about the right to self defense. So called reasonable restrictions regarding storage and concealment are appropriate for hunting tools but not weapons for self defense.
One could argue that "security of a free State" was referring to preventing deer and turkey attacks.
It's Coming Right For Us!!!!
No, nasty white rabbits with sharp pointy teeth and bad tempers.
Run away! Run away!
I always reply to things people say about guns by saying the same thing about fire extinguishers. (Sometimes I have to explain that in both cases we're talking about emergency equipment.)
"Why do you need a gun? Just call the police!"
"Why do you need a fire extinguisher? Just call the fire department!"
The reactions are often priceless.
I like it. I'd use it, but I run into surprisingly few people that don't think I should be allowed to have guns.
Excellent response. Hope you don't mind if I use it. I believe for those of us who have had a stalker threatening our lives and the lives of our children, a deeper appreciation of the 2nd Amendment develops. I for one own and carry. Thank you, US Constitution, for giving me the right to protect me and mine.
Thank you, US Constitution, for giving me the right to protect me and mine.
Facepalm, dude.
Of course it's not quite the same thing. At least with the fire department it's in their job description to put out your house fire. The police have no equivalent responsibility.
in Britian some fire departments have requested hotels remove fire fighting equipment like fire extinguishers and hoses because people may be tempted to put out a fire instead of calling the fire department.
Speaking of hunting, how about a RINO season to thin out the herd?
Can we grind up their finger- and toenails and sell them to the Chinese as an aphrodisiac?
Free Trade FTW!
Start with Romney. Delicious.
Climate of Hate!!! Eliminationist rhetoric!!! I'm telling Mom!!!
The only RINO's running are Ron Paul and Gary Johnson. Based on the way the party has acted for the past three decades, the rest are completely within the mainstream.
Pull it over there, Robo-boy. This is what Paulie Krugnuts would call "eliminationist rhetoric", so we are gonna have to flag this comment. Oh, you made it with regards to the GOP? Carry on....
Maybe inevitable, 'cause Gingrich is presidential in the way his face practically screams 'impeach me!' Republicans forget they had to get rid of him once? Was that so much fun, they wanna have to do it all over again in a few years?
We can only hope he nominates Denny Hastert as his veep.
He being a fellow beneficiary of statism.
BTW, is the Tsunami overwith?
I thought Tropical Depression Tulpa would stick better anyway.
It has to be a Tropical Storm before it gets a name.
It started on the FFL board last night, and based on the way his season started, he was hurricane strength at one time...but a shitty trade later and he's been downgraded for the playoffs (that I will be missing because I suck).
That's no fair! He and Hastert wrestle in the superheavy class.
In this case Obama is a rounding error.
Heh. Hastert has to be the least known and least liked S-of-the-House in generations.
Who?
I'm really not sure what Gingrich is, other than a gross opportunist.
He did champion welfare reform and balanced budgets back in the '90s. It's important to remember that, despite all the stupid shit he's said and done since leaving office.
My biggest problem/fear with Gingrich is that he is a "big idea" guy. I don't want that. I want someone who inherently skeptical of government power, not someone who thinks it should be redirected towards different ends.
If Newt or Romney get the nod, but Ron Paul puts up a very strong showing, do you guys think there is a chance they tap RP for the VP nod?
And how does the dynamic work if he threatens an independent run?
No way.
If Newt or Romney get the nod, but Ron Paul puts up a very strong showing, do you guys think there is a chance they tap RP for the VP nod?
ROFLMAO
No.
Although they might ask Cain or Bachman to put a "minority" on the ticket.
The only way this possibly happens is if Paul gets some substantial wins and has some delegates to bring to the table, and if those delegates are crucial to the outcome.
It's another question entirely as to whether Paul would accept the VP slot if offered it. I don't believe he would.
Ordinarily I'd agree that RP would not take a VP slot. However, keep in mind he's said he's not returning to Congress. Perhaps he's eyeing a VP slot?
I don't either. I just posed the question to see what peoples' thoughts were on it.
It's gonna be a minority of some description, that's a given. No way in Hell it's Bachmann or Cain, though. Bachmann would get pilloried worse than Palin did (and rightly so since she's a fucking lunatic) and Cain's got some serious baggage now because of the affair allegations (even if they're untrue, he didn't stay and fight them).
I'm thinking they go back to the Colin Powell and beg him to come back to the team or they go for Rubio in an attempt to lock up FLA.
I think it would be a good idea. I'm pretty sure there are lots of people out there crazy enough to assassinate whatever sack of shit stands in his way to the presidency. Of course, that's also why he won't get the VP slot.
If Paul were offered it I think he would be foolish to turn it down. The VP gets more press than an also-ran former congressman, so he could continue to articulate his ideas on the national stage. Plus, he would have the opportunity to cast tie-breaking votes in the senate, so it's not like he wouldn't have anything to do.
RP already said he wouldn't take a VP nod, and he seemed rather pissed that he was being asked that question when the numbers show that he has a chance of grabbing a bunch of delegates. No compromises with these charlatans.
Ron Paul a "charlatan" how old are you 15?
Jesus, here you are again with reading comprehension failure. He is saying RP shouldn't compromise with the charlatans.
I hope you aren't this much of a failure when you are trolling boards that aren't already voting for RP.
They will never select Ron Paul for anything.
But Rand . . .
If Republicans do not understand that nominating Newt Gingrich as their candidate will lead to electoral disaster, then they deserve the vitriol that will be heaped upon them, as well as the splintering of the Republican Party in two (or three) parts that should happen.
Don't underestimate the retardedness of TEAM RED. Ever.
Fuck you you liberalterian!
What happened to GREGGGOOOOOOO?
"Why do you need a fire extinguisher? Just call the fire department!"
Nice.
I hate to say it, but the "NEWT ARE SMART!!!" theory seems to be pretty powerful.
I know not why.
because compared to most of the candidates he is... specifically smart AND informed.
i have zero doubt the cain is smart. he was just woefully underinformed and intellectually incurious and arrogant enough not to do anything about it
Anyone see how CNN is reporting the latest poll numbers in Iowa? "Gingrich jumps to first in Iowa, Romney falls to third". What the frak? I sincerely hope that while Romney and Gingrich spend the next few weeks fellating AIPAC and Donald Trump for support, Paul will be building even more momentum on the ground in Iowa and New Hampshire.
MSNBC is doing the same thing.
Which is even more fucked up. At least RP shares a few common principles as MSNBC when compared to Romney or Gingrich. I'm actually shocked they haven't invited him on a show or two in an attempt to boost ratings. I'd love to see Chris Matthews keel over when RP lands to the left of him on the first foreign policy question...or the look on Maddow's face when he rips Obama for extra-judicially killing an American.
All they really care about is socialism. They will never support a libertarian. Ever.
We won't have him on our controlled left shows for the same reasons we do not have him on our controlled right debates.
We pick the candidates based on the issues that matter to us...we let the little people decide which puppet they want to implement our policies. You are the little people...keep watching MSNBC, it is so funny to hear that you are "shocked" when we don't include conspiracy theorist, anti-semites on our shows.
They can't support a libertarian as it would exposed the left on foreign policy and individual rights.
Rand's Rebellion.
Every time I watch CNN, I just want to jump into the fucking studio and yell the living shit out of any number of those pompous, delusional, statist fucks.
Anderson mother-fucking Cooper pisses me off to no end with his covert condescension.
Cooper is a good American that has served our intelligence agencies well.
Anderson Cooper...the Frank Burns of our generation.
Newt would never stab anybody in the back
Newt would never stab anybody in the back
Oh shit
Ron Paul is the only choice & chance!
I know at least two guys who've never had any records kept of them, or checks performed -- they both bought their handguns privately. Should I call the cops, or go for the golden shot and just alert the ATF (after making sure they've ordered coffins for themselves)?
Unless they're felons or it's against state law, private sales of handguns are completely legal.
Sadly, it's highly unlikely that Paul can win a majority of the delegates; but, he might have a shot at a plurality. It would then be interesting to see how the media covers the backroom dealmaking of a Mitt-Newt ticket.
THAT, only? There's a lot to be grumpy about when it comes to good ol' Newt.
A Republican presidential candidate has genuinely advocated the creation of a fingerprint database for firearms purchases and ownership. As in IT ACTUALLY HAPPENED. Romney's in the same shitty boat. It should give you an idea of his other political positions.
That kind of thing is where the line's drawn on consideration. He's a fucking authoritarian prick, and that's all that he'll ever be.
But has he ever shot any varmints?
Is there anything about the Titties that doesn't scream shitbag? God and to think back in the 1990s I actually liked him. The titties is like a girlfriend from college who later balloons to 300 lbs and starts doing plus sized porn for a neo Nazi website.
You have a talent for relating complex political situations to the everyday experiences of the average American.
The titties is like a girlfriend from college who later balloons to 300 lbs
Just a second ago you said you didn't like him. Make up your mind, John.
Want to hear something worse?
There was a time when I even thought Donald Trump was kinda cool.
Mainly because the NY media told me to.
Picture those two guys hanging out together NOW, and think about how I used to like both of them. It's mind-boggling.
Back in the 1980s when he used to go on the Donahue show as the resident evil capitalist and make Donahue look like a complete clown, I kind of liked Trump too.
Oh the indiscretions of our youth.
Nothing compared to what uncle Miltie Friedman did to Donahue on his own show in the early 80s. He actually changed Phils's mind about statist authoritarian socialism as public policy - for, like, FIVE minutes!
It shows how much lower our public discourse is. Donahue was a real clown. But his show was the damned Athenian college compared to what we have now.
a girlfriend from college who later balloons to 300 lbs and starts doing plus sized porn for a neo Nazi website
Your dating history both intrigues and frightens me, John.
How are we going to track terrorists without having every citizen in America in some kind of database?
Oh, suck it, democrats:
Invasion of privacy to track terrorists: Bad, sometimes good.
Invasion of privacy to track gun owners: Good.
We are doing that. It is called IDENT, the database of databases in the sky. Look it up sometime.
I will accept this as the catalyst for Titties' inevitable swift decline in popularity among the retarded, indecisive, media driven republican bandwagon. I don't see how he won't crash just like Cain, Perry, Bachmann, and all the other morons.
This guy is a statist tool. Granted, he is not a woefully ignorant/uneducated for the job tool a la Bachmann or Cain...
If its not a guy like McCain... MMA IS HUMAN COCKFIGHTING, MCCAIN FEINGOLD. Etc. it's got to be a guy like Newt?
Repubs are a little better IMO but the candidates are, with rare exception... Statist to the. Ax
You put Ron Paul's voting record up against anyone of these clowns and that includes The Donkey King and the man wins hands down.
Don't be scared, be prepared vote for freedom and liberty in 2012!
And remember freedom means freedom FROM government and the essence of that freedom is the proper LIMITATION of government, not the EXCESS of it.
I don't like Romney. I hate Newt. I detest the current idiot.
In the primary I will vote Paul or Johnson.
In the general election I will vote for the Republican.
Short of a revolution, that's it. How pathetic. I hate myself.
please consider eye-gouging and injecting tire sealent into both buttocks. that is all
RON PAUL RON PAUL RON PAUL!!! THERES A REASON WHY THE ESTABLISHMENT IGNORES HIM HE IS A THREAT TO THE NEW WORLD ORDER!!!
END THE FEDERAL RESERVE BRING BACK THE GOLD STANDARD!!!
YOUR MONEY IS PRINTED BY A PRIVATE COMPANY LOOK IT UP FOR YOURSELF!!
I hope you don't write like this when you actually try to change people's minds.
The dumb part of the idea is that it would be easier to thumbprint everyone than to select out gun owners.
Dang, I probably shouldn't have said that out loud.
Look up Newt Gingrich - Seral Hypocrasy That's all you need to know about him. Backstabbing flip flopper. Divorced one of his wives while she was ill in the hospital. Disgusting
Where in the world did this person get the idea that he stabbed gun owners in the back??? Who lets that person even write??? It says he doesn't want domestic violence offenders to own guns. Dur, if you do than there isn't much hope for you anyway.
