Survey Methods
The Reason-Rupe Q3 2011 poll collected a nationally representative sample of 1200 respondents, aged 18 and older from all 50 states and the District of Columbia using live telephone interviews from August 9th-18th 2011. The margin of sampling error for this poll is ± 3 percent. The margin of error for the GOP presidential race numbers is ± 4.79%. Interviews were conducted with respondents using both landline (790) and mobile phones (410). Landline respondents were randomly selected within households based on the adult who had the most recent birthday. Sample was weighted by gender, age, ethnicity, and Census region, based on the most recent US Census data. The sampling frame included landline and mobile phone numbers generated using Random Digit Dialing (RDD) methods and randomly selected numbers from a directory-listed sample. the last one reminded me of a bumper sticker...
"welcome to the abomination"
vote 2012 or forever hold your piece
So sad that Gary Johnson can't get any traction. He'd get my vote.
great post you do.
So in other words: America's doomed.
shit.
But you libertarians don't understand... Ron Paul is wwwwway ahead and everyone loves him and thinks he is the greatest. The internet polls prove it! He hasn't been this far ahead since the 2008 elections! He is going to win and save America!
If you are not voting Ron Paul, you have not been paying attention.
You wonder why the mainstream media doesn't cover him...yet he is winning or atleast in the top 3 of every major poll.
How many of those people polled are registered republicans that will be able to vote in their state's primary?
Tough to say. Though there is an active movement by to get independents to register republican and vote for him in the primary. I personally know a half dozen individuals, either independents or former democrats, who have announced their intentions to do just that.
To Howfreeami:
I like much of what Ron Paul says, and it is consistent with his past positions in Congress.
But Dennis Kuchinich (spelling?) as a potential cabinet member? He's a Liberal wing-nut!
I'd be happy to make George Will my proxy voter for president.
Ron Paul for president.
We must have a president that is not a Filthy Unconstitutional Prohibitionist.
Many of us here at Reason are skeptical of Tea Partiers. Others come on here and bitch and complain about our skepticism. If the results of this poll are to assumed to be correct, then I would like to re-affirm my skepticism of the Tea Party. Any dipshit (or collective group of dipshits) who would rather have Rick Perry or Mitt Romney as president over Ron Paul doesn't deserve to be affiliated with.
To Jacob: I'm one of those Tea Party "dipshits" you've been pissing and moaning about and I do NOT support either Rick Perry or Mitt Romney.
Quite frankly, I don't give a flying fig whether you are skeptical about Tea Party-ers or not.
People like me are only interested in restoring personal freedoms; repealing Obama-care; ending the madness of failed immigration policies which benefit only the political parties; reducing the National debt dramatically; limiting the size and scope of government (from the Federal down to the Municipal level); taking away much of the money Congress has to spend; fossil fuels exploration, drilling, and production as an act of autonomy/High-paying Jobs creation/ Federal Trade balancing if we sell a small portion of those oil resources and National Security; prohibiting no new taxes until Congress becomes accountable and responsible in their spending, and so much more.
What the bloody Hell do YOU stand for?
It is apparent that what you know and understand about the Tea Party could be stuffed in a thimble
You, Miss Edmiston, are a fucking idiot.
If you actually understood my message, you would have understood that I was calling the people who support Romney and Perry over Ron Paul dipshits. if you claim you don't support Romney or Perry over Paul, then I'm not exactly calling you a dipshit, am I???
However, this is a nice transition to some of the problems I have with Tea Party. Where have you guys been?? It is said that Tea Partiers make up about 15-20% of the electorate. The real small government folks like Ron Paul and the Libertarian Party, didn't get anywhere close to that number of votes in the last election.
Who were all you "small government" TPers voting for last election? McCain? Obama? It certainly wasn't Ron Paul or Bob Barr. Why not?
Even more egregious than that is the fact that your beloved Tea Party tried to unseat Ron Paul in the last GOP primary for his district. We're talking about one of the few people in America who has consistently tried to limit the size and scope of government, and what kind of support does he get from the Tea Party?
http://www.foxnews.com/politic.....allengers/
(BTW your candidates got their ass kicked)
You supposedly don't give a "flying fig" what I think of the Tea party, but you feel the need to respond to my messages? That's pretty weak. I don't even think I've even seen you on this site much, how long have you been coming here?
My opinion of Tea Partiers is that they are simply Republicans who are trying a gimmick to win over independents. Two of the most prominent Tea partiers both have essentially stated they are here to continue the status quo. Michele Bachmann voted in favor of the Patriot Act, and Herman Cain insists that we need to continue the War on Drugs. Yeah, real "limited government" there.
It's really cute that you can cut and paste a bunch of talking points. While what I know and understand about the Tea Party could possibly be stuffed in a thimble, you have the IQ of a thimble.
Jacob: You still haven't told me what You stand for!
Folks like me, in the last election, were trying desperately to keep Obama out of the White House by voting for a candidate that, at least, had a fair chance to beat Obama. Sure McCain was an opportunist, a turncoat, and many other nasty adjectives. But we certainly have had worse problems with Obama haven't we?! McCain was the only other "game in town". So I was being pragmatic for a change; it's more than I can say for folks like you who continued to place such high value in your precious also-rans that you wouldn't or couldn't recognize a real, honest-to-goodness enemy when you faced one (Obama). You refused to put aside your personal dogma. So in my opinion, it is folks like you who helped to elect Obama by splitting the votes.
Should I now thank you for helping to usher in one of the worst Presidents in American history? Hardly.
I believe very strongly in principles as I have iterated above (but which you chose to ignore in your personal screed against me), but when fighting against the Socialist Progressives I have to work with what candidates are at hand, ones that are "viable".
I spent many more years than I care to remember voting for Libertarians and finally I gave up because the candidates were so unknown, so lame, and such cold, aloof "party-purists" that I could no longer justify negating my voting power.
Seems to me the word "electability" still has no meaning for the "purists" within the Libertarian movement.
I did what I could to keep Obama out of office...what did you do?
I get the fact that at Reason the only people who are allowed to have deeply held beliefs and tenets are Libertarians; all "others" have mere "talking points".
On your way out the door, clean up your dirty mouth; four-letter words still have no place in forums such as this.
As an addendum to the above:
The only reason I responded to your post claiming that "Many of us here at Reason are skeptical of Tea Partiers", is to let you know that skepticism runs both ways.
My skepticism of you can be returned "in spades" because my perception is that the Libertarian Party, as currently constructed, dishonors both Bastiat and John Locke.
Colin powell should run @ least he is honest
Do ten minutes of research about Ron Paul and come to your own conclusions. I'll be voting for him, ballot option or write-in if I have to.
The primaries will be my first time voting. Sadly I hadn't been paying attention to politics until a year ago, so now I'm quite behind in my research on my topics. I'm leaning towards Ron Paul, especially since he wants to return to the Gold Standard. So I was skipping around the internet so happy because my choice was clear. . .then I ran into his foreign policy. I don't like how the world seems to be dependent upon us, but we can't simply ignore wars around us. Once again I'm unsure of my choice and just wanting to filter out politics again.
While I don't agree with his foreign policy, Ron Paul is still a rare breed of politician. He's perfect for the position of Secretary of the Treasury.
I believe that luck is a perceptual view based on a belief that something circumstancial, be it a trinket of some sort, a lucky charm, or a mystical belief based on supersticious ideas can cause situations to work out for your right time and the right place has some merit in regards to this; however, I think that to be successful requires greatly detailed thought processes which evaluate a purpose and identify the steps needed to create the desired successful outcome. Once this type of integrated thought is realized the work begins. To take what is written down as the plan of success and implement it through determined effort towards the accomplishment of the success plan is what makes it happen. Thought is the genorater initially as you must research what is needed to make your plan a success. It's like that old saying, "I think and therefore I am." - ????? ??????
