Reason Writers Around Town: Matt Welch in CNN.com About the Sarah Palin E-Mails Frenzy
Writing over at CNN.com, Reason Editor in Chief Matt Welch compares journalistic coverage of Sarah Palin to that of Barack Obama. Here is how the column starts:
On Friday afternoon the websites of the five most important newspapers in the United States -- the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, and USA Today -- each had above their digital folds the same breaking story: It seemed the former governor of the 47th-most populous state in the union, a woman who holds no elected office now and almost assuredly will not again anytime soon, had thousands of e-mails from her 21-month tenure data-dumped Video onto the public.
The New York Times responded with a rare burst of interactivity, inviting readers "to point out items of interest." The Washington Post had video, a photo gallery, live updates, and headlines such as "Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin's e-mails show a constant concern with how she is portrayed in the media, on matters big and small."
Transparency advocates doubtlessly breathed a sigh of satisfaction that sunlight-disinfectant was being applied to a government figure. And people with any sense of political proportion were left with an additional thought: When is this journalistic scrutiny going to be applied to politicians who wield actual power?

When is this journalistic scrutiny going to be applied to politicians who wield actual power?
When they propose a serious threat to the established order. The media scrutiny of Palin is not misplaced from their perspective. The smart ones know that she is the furthest thing from unintelligent and incompetent. They fear her and not because of the "threat" to witchcraft, library books, and free rape kits.
Your hardon for Palin is fucking epic. You do realize you'll never get to fuck her, right?
Your hardon for Palin is fucking epic. You do realize you'll never get to fuck her, right?
You do realize that you do not have to like Palin to speculate as to why the left wing media is sooooo fascinated with Palin.
Why do you think the left wing media is so interested with Palin Epi?
Because she's a useful idiot who captivates morons and gets them to buy newspapers and watch cable TV news shows?
It's not just the left wing media that's fascinated by her.
Palin is all media. She was created by the media to be used by the media.
Palin is the Media Terminator? I always suspected that underneath all that skin, Chris Matthews was a robot!
Whatever she is, she makes more more than all of you combined. 🙂
That makes her 'kick-ass' in my book
260 comments on libertarian mag's blog page. Times 20 in everything else online.
This women is GOLD, Jerry. MEDIA GOLD.
That's pretty low for a weekend thread on Reason.
Except she is unintelligent and incompetent. She's only good at manipulating the media and whatever else she needs to. As governor of Alaska she oversaw a 13% increase in spending. I don't see how she's a threat to the 'established order' in any way.
Ousted Murkowski and helped Joe Miller challenge his daughter.
Broke up cozy deal between Alaska pols and oil companies.
Put together an effective team of 'uncorruptibles' and pushed through ethics reforms.
Has been running a 'non-campaign' campaign without having to cooperate with Big Media.
If the establishment didn't feel threatened by her, they wouldn't be spending so much time telling everyone that she is stupid and can't win the nomination or the election and wouldn't be expending so much effort trying to dig up dirt on her.
Under the guise of her anti-corruption campaign she interfered in the private business of oil companies, in some ways pulling a Chavez.
The minerals right in Alaska are owned by the citizens of Alaska so the State Government is automatically a part of any deal involving the development of Alaska's oil resources. Thanks for playing. Try harder next time.
A real conservative, as squishy as that term may be, would try to limit the government's interference regardless of The People's Ownership of Alaskan Mineral Rights.
Troll.
Fail.
You sure did.
So to you (and the left, media, and GOP establishment) Sarah Palin is a political idiot savant?
I find it amusing that her emails reveal she was a frontrunner for the VEEP-slot in a Ron Paul candidacy as far back as 2007.
That merely confirms my doubts on Ron Paul's judgement quite frankly.
"On Friday afternoon the websites of the five most important newspapers in the United States -- the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, and USA Today -- each had above their digital folds the same breaking story..."
Mitt Romney couldn't attract that kind of media coverage if he did a press conference wearing nothing but his magic underwear.
Everybody thinks campaigns are driven by money--how much money would the Romney campaign need to spend to get coverage like Sarah Palin does?
Sarah Palin gets that kind of coverage for doing--absolutely nothing! ...and it doesn't cost her a penny.
"...a woman who holds no elected office now and almost assuredly will not again anytime soon,..."
How can you do a post all about how she gets mountains of free coverage for doing absolutely nothing--and then say she has little chance of holding another office soon?
If Mitt Romney is her major competition? He's staying up late every night trying to think up new and better ways to get more campaign contributions...
...so he can BUY the kind of advertising Sarah Palin gets for free--when she does absolutely nothing.
How much money do you need to raise to compete with somebody like Sarah Palin, who dominates the media coverage--for free?
"On Friday afternoon the websites of the five most important newspapers in the United States -- the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, and USA Today -- each had above their digital folds the same breaking story..."
Then she totally pwned the New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, the LA Times, and The USA Today....
She owns all the networks too.
They all do whatever she tells them to do. ..without her even telling them to do it!
All of the media outlets work for Sarah Palin.
She's their boss.
And she makes them look petty and stupid in each encounter.
I'm starting to think that she is some kind of media genius.
She kicks their ass without even trying!
If the next election comes down to a charisma contest, she's the only one who can compete with Obama on the same TV screen in a debate.
She gets more coverage than the president sometimes--and she doesn't have the advantage of being the president.
Sarah Palin sometimes gets more coverage for doing nothing than Barack Obama gets for invading Libya or something!
It's hard to understand why people don't see the advantage of somebody getting that kind of press coverage for free--when the whole advantage of fund raising and campaign contributions is to BUY that kind of coverage.
She gets more coverage for doing nothing than anyone running against her can buy...
And, yeah, you're right...
Piling on a woman like that might play well in Progressive circles--but swing voting women think hating on somebody like that is a good reason to stand up for her.
The only person I've seen in my lifetime who generated the same kind of visceral hatred from the left?
Was Ronald Reagan.
Many of the things I see people say about Palin now? Are the same things I saw people say about Reagan way back when.
You could change the name Reagan to Palin and run some of the same stories from the mid '80s they wrote about Reagan back then.
I'm not saying Palin's politics are just like Reagan's, but the way she's portrayed by the people who hate her is the same way--and she has that kind of charisma going for her with folksy swing voters.
I think she does well with blue-collar conservatives like Reagan did too.
I don't care what the polls say right now. If we're going by who can get the most coverage for the least amount of money? Then why wouldn't Palin be the favorite?
it's the scientologists in charge.
No one denies that she's famous and has high name recognition. So's hitler. You think he'd be competitive?
Sarah Palin isn't Hitler.
Swing voters don't think of her as being like Hitler.
They just don't.
She's more like an aging stripper who's too old to dance anymore.
Perhaps she needs a time travel face bag?
"Swing voters" are anything but, when it comes to Palin. Theres not a single person on this planet who's undecided between BO and SP. There are people against both (like many of us here), but there's nobody who is open to either one.
"Theres not a single person on this planet who's undecided between BO and SP. There are people against both (like many of us here), but there's nobody who is open to either one."
Sure there are!
The Reagan Coalition was all about his appeal to union workers...
Union workers traditionally vote Democrat, and they traditionally turn out for Democrats. If there's any group of people Obama is popular with, it's union people...
A lot of those blue collar types like Sarah Palin for a number of reasons. Some of them are relatively culturally conservative (compared to Obama), and some of them like Sarah Palin because they're gun people, etc...
Between her recent statements about how the government probably shouldn't get involved in adults peacefully smoking a joint in their own house, there are a few things for libertarians to like about Sarah Palin too.
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-50.....03544.html
I probably won't vote myself this time around--not gonna vote for anybody to be my emperor. ...but for libertarians who do vote? Getting rid of somebody's who's at best hostile to capitalism like Obama is--not to mention what he's doing to our healthcare system?
For less evolved libertarians who for whatever reason feel it necessary to vote? Picking between Obama and Palin should be a no-brainer.
"Mulling over "what President Palin would do," the former governor said she would cut the federal budget, cut corporate tax rates, expand domestic energy production and cut regulations "that really quash an entrepreneurial spirit in America and do burden our businesses."
***Palin has libertarian economic views as well. Libertarians hating on Palin are using cultural purity tests, that are silly. When has any Pres been able to move the abortion or religious debate? Those issues excite the unwashed electorate, but are irrelevant to governance. It's the economy, stupid, that matters. And Palin is strong on that issue.

"Mulling over "what President Palin would do," the former governor said she would cut the federal budget,
Why is Palin wearing a star of David in that photo?
Is she Jewish?
Do Jews even wear the star of David? Do Christians wear them now?
Photoshopped?
She wore it in honor of Jerusalem Day, to show support for Israel.
She wears it as a sign of support for Israel. I also think it was a gift from a good friend of hers, though I can't remember where I saw that.
Libertarians hating on Palin are using cultural purity tests, that are silly. When has any Pres been able to move the abortion or religious debate?
So, basically she's a conservative, and this is the same formula that has had libertarians voting for conservatives for 30 years.
IMO, Palin is just an opportunist, and she will advocate whatever policies she things will get her support.
Though honestly I don't think she'll run. She's a media personality, and it's much easier for her to stay one.
I agree, she won't run, she would have stayed in office if she was.
She's vastly better than zero, no doubt. But libertarians are what, 5% of the electorate at best? And they usually choose republicans anyway, if they do vote. The "swing voters" you speak of are not libertarians. They are morons who generally don't know the first thing about history, politics, economics. They are suckered by cheap and easy slogans, and easily manipulated by pop culture. Obama OWNS them, and that won't change. SP's tv show was an attempt to make inroads into this pathetic demographic, and even it flopped for its intended audience. Her rabid fans liked it, but she already won them over long ago.
I am. I have seen almost nothing on Palin's articulated policy positions, if she has any yet. Will Palin go on record saying that she will work to end drug prohibition right up to the moment that Michele Leonhardt assassinates her and declares martial law? Then I would vote for her over Obama.
No one denies that she's famous and has high name recognition. So's hitler.
Dude. This is Reason. There are higher standards placed on Godwining threads around here.

Did either of you see where I said *I* thought Palin is hitler, or comparable? Get out of your basements and talk to hoi polloi, if you think I'm wrong. Attacking me, for something I don't even agree with is...retarded.
Ken, Palin's negative numbers are very high with both the GOP and the TP. You're really really trying to force this Reagan did it so can Sarah! meme.
I don't care what the polls say--right now.
A lot of people think it's a money race--and who can get the most campaign contributions wins. Why do they want the money?
To buy coverage in the media.
Sarah Palin already gets more coverage in the media for free than anyone running against her could ever buy.
Did you see how close Hillary Clinton came to winning the nomination against a no-name Senator? She had huge negatives--amongst all kinds of people. The only reason she didn't win the nomination was because she wasn't opposed to Iraq like Obama was...
Polls don't mean shit right now. Hell, toward the end of Hillary campaign, she had conservatives dumping McCain to support Hillary Clinton. ...when a year before, conservatives treated her like she was eating babies.
You mean the Iraq we're still in? If people even remember why they voted for BO, I'd be goddamned surprised. Will the next president promise to get us out of Libya?
Maybe she'll turn into a jet, bomb the Russians, and then fly into the sun?
THE BREAKING STRAINS OF EMPIRE WARFARE
[Japan and the Big One]
What Japan represented and does represent to the American-Israeli Military Industrial Complex the [EMPIRE] is two things; The first of which is the Eastern Pearl of its Nuclear Choke Chain Necklace running from [FOOTHOLD] Germany to [FOOTHOLD] Okinawa, with a forward nuclear capacity to First Strike the [PDRC] Peoples Democratic Republic of China, along with its Blue and Gold necklace chain of Trident Submarines, and the second which has now been damaged is its standing as the economic base of the [EMPIRE] made in Japan long ago replaced made in the [USA] United States of America, and with the Big One off of Northern Japan, other nations are having to take up the slack but the profits are no longer flowing to the [EMPIRE] and Wall St., the [ROK] Republic of South Korea is a high risk economic problem, with the question of is the [EMPIRE] willing to risk the chance of a nuclear confrontation over a renewed military war on the Korean Peninsula, and the loss of Billions if not Trillions in new major industrial development sites relocated from Japan to the [ROK], not likely.
[The Left Coast Big One!]
Prof. Pat Abbott of San Diego, has said that every possible tectonic plate in the Pacific Ring of Fire has moved and the only one left is the San Andreas, and it is long over due, will it bring the [EMPIRE] economically to its knees? That is fast becoming a question as most of the industry that was on the Left Coast has or is leaving not due environmental reasons as much as being taxed off the Left Coast moving to more pro-business countries and locations across the [EMPIRE], you can hear the sucking sound as they leave. But, when the San Andreas goes, and it will, yes the [EMPIRE] will be brought to its knees economically rapidly, compared to its slow but steady present decline.
[Empire not equal to the strain]
Admiral Mike Mullen on the subject of what is the [EMPIRES] biggest threat feels it is its catastrophe national debt, which has reached a to point too where its Military Industrial Complex is consuming higher and higher levels of the [EMPIRES] [GDP] Gross Domestic Product, along with resources just to maintain present operations, maintenance pay and benefits, combined with other forms of overhead let along projected increases due to the continued up tick in ever mounting operational military commitments over diplomatic solutions, it has come to the point where a gap has developed between the [EMPIRE] society and its military, those in uniform, as one is suffering to support that complex as the other is suffering to protect those weighted with the cost of the [EMPIRES] Wars of Economic Stimulus, that is not doing any Stimulation, but has become a weight to economic recovery or growth. A lesson not understood but taught by Sun Tzu in the Art of War, if a campaign or war is protracted, the resources of the State, will not be equal to the strain.

Oh, great HERCULE TRIATHLON SAVINIEN. Your eloquence makes me lose all control of my bodily functions. And my [PUNCTUATION].
The comments at CNN are already hilarious. Hey Matt, did you know you were a conservative?
Sadly, and predictably, they are reacting to a headline I didn't write and don't agree with.
"Collect your 10 cents $500 from the Koch brothers"
CNN commenters are intellectually barely one step above YouTube commenters, who in turn are barely above small, yappy dogs.
They're about as easily drop kicked, too. Unfortunately, in the mean time they leave stains on the carpet and make an awful lot of noise.
That's an insult to small yappy dogs.
That's an insult to small yappy dogs the reason commentariat (myself included).
Nothing is an insult to small yappy dogs. They are cracks in the wall between earth and hell.
Now why did you have to go and bring up Max?
If this is an online-only article, then what is the journalistic rationale behind not letting the author title it, especially in this idiotic and clearly slanted way?
Publications typically have prerogative over headlines, and freelance writers aren't always the best at it.
Do Reason editors usually write their own headlines on H&R posts?
So the headline wouldn't be Clash lyrics.
You don't agree with it?
Sadly, and predictably, they are reacting to a headline I didn't write and don't agree with.
You can always submit a suggested headline along with each piece. Sometimes they'll use it, sometimes they won't - but it can't hurt.
It's not like these are the thought leaders of tomorrow:
oh!!! Why does she want to do this? Involving in filthy politics? I dont understand girls...
So you don't agree that the sitting president deserves more scrutiny than a private citizen?
Because that's the headline--and it appears to be the theme of your article.
Do you disagree with your article as well?
Wow! I, for some reason, just read all the comments over at CNN. Those idiots make H&R's resident trolls look like perfectly rational slightly-left-leaning intelligent people. I cannot even begin to understand what kind of delusional fairytale land they think they live in where Obama is the infallible savior of our "democracy," and anyone who criticizes his policies or job performance is just a Koch-funded racist inbred moron.
Seriously, I think they must be mentally ill. I really can't see any other explaination.
IN REPLY TO KIAN MEAD
Kian Mead wrote, in response to triathlon:
KIAN WROTE: Err..Evidence please - especially, since the west already controlled the oilfields in Libya under Qadaffi.
TRIATHLON REPLYS: See [RT] Russia Today, (http://rt.com/), as in an interview with a Radio Commentator, from The American-Israeli Military Industrial Complex the [EMPIRE] from the state of Illinois, the city of Chicago, it is a well know fact that these are truths, and it has always been about OIL!
KIAN WROTE: Unless you are saying Al Qaeda is happy to allow thousands of innocent Muslims to be slaughtered by Qadiffi, so they can gain "victory". I am sure many Muslims would be interested to learn that.
TRIATHLON REPLYS: This is about Al Qaeda allowing thousands of the Military Machine purchased, and supplied by the EMPIRE, not to be used against Al Qaeda, this is about the West and the [EMPIRE] Military Industrial Complex doing the job of lifting the heavy lode for them. This is simple military triangulation, let my enemy destroy my enemy. Both Gadiffi and the Empire are the enemies of the Greater Islamic Sphere of Parity of Influence in the middle east.
KIAN WROTE: And in which media have you seen, anyone in the west suggesting that Qadiffi should stay?
TRIATHLON REPLYS: You can locate that on (www.TheDailyBeast.Com), under weekend interviews on the controlled media of the west on video, Adm. Mike Mullens the head of the Pentagons Joint Chiefs of Staff of its Military Industrial Complex, has openly stated it was not now the intention of replacing Gadiffi, this is now a tactical decision, as with the forces of Gadiffi in ruin, the only forces to stop Al Qaeda is boots on the ground and just were are they to get them and what about the money, Japan is out of the question, The Peoples Democratic Republic of China and just how much debt can the [EMPIRE] go in debt to them.
KIAN WROTE: Time to realize little boy, you and your fellow idiots are going to lose the war, not by force, but by the desires of the people of the middle east to have freedom and democracy.
TRIATHLON REPLYS: We will not respond with insults, when you talk of the [EMPIRE] you are only talking of Washington D.C. and New York City, they have no interest in the Middle East establishing a [Parity Sphere of Influence] such as the [BRICS] Brazil, The Russian Federation, India, The Peoples Republic of China, and The Union of South Africa, which all abstained from voting for the [No Fly Zone], the [EMPIRE] as name above is interested in maintaining the status quo, with its dictators in place Israel is the dogs tail it wags the [EMPIRE] thru [AIPAC/AZC] American Israeli Political Action Committee/American Zionist Committee, who wags Washington D.C. and owns New York City. Desires of the people of the middle east to have freedom and democracy, come at the cost of Action and Blood, and hard military decisions as Al Qaeda is making
KIAN WROTE: Or are you going to bring a theocratic government over the Arabian peninsula? See the protests in Iran last year about that little pretense...technology has over taken the influence of the Elder - no longer is all thought controlled by the Elders and Imams, the youth have access to alternate information sources.
TRIATHLON REPLYS:
As an epochal era of inevitable and irreversible Sirocco - Ghibili Sandstorm of change sweeps across the Middle East ending the American-Israeli Military Industrial Complex [EMPIRE] of colonial subjugation thru its placement and support of autocratic, totalitarian top down Divine Right of rule, despotic rulers. Being lead by and urbanized and connected youth with a democratic fervor, willing to go their own way and face the bumpy and unstable path, at best in a transition from autocracy to democracy. Are calling for a new form Middle East [NOT] based upon, or taking instructions from a copy cat western Spiritually Void, Capitalist Greed Driven, Neo Liberal Secular Democratic System of Hypocrisy, in which more and more disenfranchised citizens are choosing not to participate in superficial elections which are controlled thru gerrymandered unchanging candidate's, western style of so called democratic elections, with no change to the status quo within its governmental ruling elite structures. By forming an Islamic Democracy, form of government established and based upon historic values of respect for human rights, based upon Islamic beliefs and values with Islamic representation, a constitutional freely elected Islamic Caliphate monarchy, of power sharing, with a Parliamentary system of opposition political parties, a co-operative amalgamation based upon rights of free association and expression, the right too petition for regress of grievances, within the religious convictions of Islam of Justice and accountability, demanding reforms, allowing the voice of the people to be heard, a free press providing the public a universal knowledge of government activities keeping a check upon government to report and abate corruption, the establishment of regional system of localized economies, ending the era of pent-up demands for higher wages, income and regulated welfare assistance, a government working in co-operation with other regional block's or regional association members to form a regional sphere of parity, in the new Multi-Polar [21st] Century, in line with the [BRICS] Brazil, The Russian Federation, India, The Democratic Peoples Republic of China, and The Union of South Africa, and the [EU] European Union.
KIAN WROTE: Try to take their iphones away, and see what they would do to you.
Little boy, realize, you have lost. And it was not by the failed western governments policies, but the freedoms we have, and those youth can see what we have, and desire the same.
So go bomb your fellow Arabs, for not being Islamic enough, and see how Islam will die - at the hands of AL Qaeda.
TRIATHLON REPLYS: We again do not return insults, the fact is there will be some from of a constitutional freely elected Islamic Caliphate monarchy, a new middle east, the days of one Super Power [EMPIRE] World Government is coming to its end, replaced by [Parity Spheres of Influence] it will take a decade to see how the Arab Spring of Revolution shakes out, but it will not be violence free, Al Qaeda is willing to do what it takes, and to date have been taking it to the [EMPIRE], in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain not being Islamic enough seem to be losing the day as Muslims are killing Muslims supporting puppets who support the [EMPIRE].

QUESTIONS OF THE DAY ? Q: Jahner / A: Savinien
KYLE JAHNER SAYS: Did the U.S. create the policies that result in backwards economies lacking in opportunity and dominated by cronyism, for example?
TRIATHLON REPLYS: The American-Israeli Military Industrial Complex - the [EMPIRE] does in fact support the development and maintaining of backwards economies dominated by dictators and despots, who exploit there own populations, thru what ever means even cronyism, as long the [EMPIRE's] self interests are achieved, and that is control of the worlds most value resources be it oil, nickel, rare-earth, gold, and the list goes on.
KYLE JAHNER SAYS: Did the U.S. ask Gaddafi to start mowing down his own people?
TRIATHLON REPLYS: The [EMPIRE] and its mouth pieces are now putting out the idea of selective determination of which guys are bad guys, and where to intervene, Gaddafi on the scale of being a mass murder is a small fish as compared to the Great Whites, feeding at leisure left out there, and then there is the question of mowing down his own people [TRIBE] the third largest in the country, or fighting rebels backed by the [EMPIRE] who had been in country months before starting a revolution centered around the rich oil section of the country. This is about OIL.
KYLE JAHNER SAYS: After all, how fair is it to blame Libya's problems and struggles on the man running the country and ordering teenage African boys to attack his own people?
TRIATHLON REPLYS: It is one thing to order a person to do something and another to get compliance, these boys of Africa are now men of Africa, given arms to defend their own lands, their own future, it is their decision to fight or not fight, and who was supporting the dictator in power for how many years this has all been [EMPIRE] Western Hypocrisy.
KYLE JAHNER SAYS: Care to actually address some actual solutions to the problems the region faces?
TRIATHLON REPYS: You list the one's you want to have addressed and we will reply, but now would you care to actually address the problems that have been created by [R2P] Right to Plunder the Worlds Resources in the name of Protecting the People, the selected certain groups of people or is it those who have resources the [EMPIRE] wants to plunder. Do you think Al Qaeda will not respond against France the most logical and aggressive of the west plunders, or that those wanting to protect themselves from the west will not develop nuclear weapons and delivery systems to protect their resources and sovereignty, the Pandora's Box is Open now how do you shut it?
KYLE JAHNER SAYS: Or would you just like to continue blaming America and Israel for all of the Arab world's problems, like an Arab dictator would?
TRIATHLON SAYS: And, a One World Government of the [EMPIRE] is more in line with peace on earth good will to men, as they plunder the worlds resources and allow the open air concentration camp of Gaza, and selective good Arab dictators as was the case in Libya, and is in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, dictators who allow the [EMPIRE] to plunder there resources of their country?
KYLE JAHNER SAYS: As I said, there is no right answer from the west. We do nothing to protect Arabs in Palestine, we get criticized. We intervene to stop the deaths of Arabs in Libya, and we get criticized. At least pick one so we can adjust.
TRIATHLON REPLYS: There is always a better answer, no answers are perfect, but military answers are the very last option, your answer is that it is the fault of the [EMPIRE], its answer is always the Pentagon Saber, and not the Peace Process of Diplomacy, and it never will be its about the plundering of the recourses of the World, and its [SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP] with the most hated Apartide Government in the World Israel, some say Fox News claim of Fair and Balances is Hypocritical, the same applies to the [EMPIRE] in whole.

The line has been drawn in the Sea of Japan and the Yellow Sea, with the [American-Israeli Military Industrial Complex [7th] Fleet] beefs up it presence in the Yellow Sea drawing its line at less than [300km] Thee-hundred kilometers from the Chinese Mainland, and [3km] Three kilometers from the disputed Yellow Sea boarder between the [DPRK] Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea and the [ROK] Republic of Korea, just [12km] Twelve kilometers from the [DPRK] mainland coastline, extending to the Nationalist Chinese breakaway island of Taipei, connecting with the Japanese [SDF] Self Defense Force willing its line in the Sea of Japan to connect with the [American-Israeli Military Industrial Complex] line thru the Nansei Islands between Kyushu joining the multiple series of Siege Lines drawn in the sand around the [DPRC] at Taipei, and we can expect that the breakaway Nationalist Chinese government will have an upgrade of its military which in the past has been put on hold in difference to the [DPRC] Sphere of Influence military and geo-political muscle within that Sphere, but that is too now be challenged.

I do not like Palin.
But she is freakin hot.
All higher brain functions requiring above average oxygenated blood are not present when she walks into a room or is on T.V.
Next time watch her muted.

oh yea. and sir-spam-a-lot sux.
So which ticket would get the most coverage: Palin/Spears, Palin/Lohan, Palin/GaGa?

Love or hate Palin, she has juice.
That's what it is: Palin has no political savvy whatsoever. She has juice, probably since being a beauty pageant participant, and knows how to flaunt it.
You know what else has juice? Beets. And I hate beets.
So many things have juice. Oranges have juice. Beetles have juice. Israel has juice. Lovelock, Nevada has juice...
What did you say about beetles? I dare you to say that twice more.
Israel has them too, lots of them. Don't know so much about Lovelock. Been there, didn't see much of anything.

Even the people I know who don't like Sarah Palin think this is retarded. The media may have finally gone too far. Everyone knows they made no effort to vet Obama. The LA Times has a tape of some speech given by some Palestinian radical Obama attended and won't release it. They have never released his college records or his emails and papers when he was a state senator. But they will take Palin's emails and turn them into a wikitroll project?
fair just isnt not
Make jokes about retarded kids. Liberals are so sophisticated and smart.
Why is it a liberal John? In all likelihood 'TriG' was a libertarian
I have posted on here enough. I know the Libertarians. The Libertarians don't do that. They will post under their name and tell me what they think. Agree with them or not, there is a certain level honor among them.
There are a couple of liberal trolls who do stupid shit like this. This is totally a liberal troll post. It takes a certain level of stupidity and childishness to post stupid things like that. And really only hard liberals have it.
They will post under their name and tell me what they think. Agree with them or not, there is a certain level honor among them.
One of your 'honorable libertarians' uses my handle with my blog address everyday, despite my asking him to use a spoof name. Don't confuse your integrity with their lack thereof
But they never to my knowlege use your name. They always use something else so it is clear it is not you but a spoofer. And you love the blog hits anyway. It is a very simbiotic relationship you and your trolls.
Absolutely, someone uses my name and blog when I have repeatedly told him not too.
If you google 'rather' almost half are not mine. I don't post for months at a time, and 'I'm' still posting.
I'm not speaking of 'rather retarted'/helle.
My trolls are a bit different. They don't spoof me. But there is an entire franchise of troll names that started with "Oh no not this again" and has since reappeared under various fake and juvinile names. For some reason I more than anyone on here get under the skin of the hard left trolls. And the above Trig post seems to fit the mold of the franchise.
There are a couple of liberal trolls who do stupid shit like this.
True.
This is totally a liberal troll post.
Maybe, or maybe not.
It takes a certain level of stupidity and childishness to post stupid things like that.
Nah. Just beer.
And really only hard liberals have it.
Annnnnd...there we are. Tribal reflexes kick in. All bad behavior comes from "liberals." I think Atom Egoyan should do a film based on John. What a warped perspective like this does to social interactions would make a fascinating character study.
John can't seem to help it NM, careless, hasty generalizations in service of a simplistic Manichean worldview of black hat wearing elitist evil-doers and white hat wearing 'real Americans' seem to be all he is capable of in political debate. You're either with him and freedom and babies and apple pie or you are against him and all that, and he judges where you stand by measuring your immediate outrage against his immediate outrage. Those that fall short are the evil-doers.
Lately, John has decided that I am a "hard core Democrat." An interesting accusation (I get a similar accusation coming my way when I comment on more liberal blogs, only I am accused of being a "Republican hack" or even (gasp) a "Libertarian fascist" (parse that one)). Where this comes from is hard to fathom, except that I disagree with him on several issues, so I must play for the other team.
When I look at it broadly, I find myself generally to the left of John on taxes/spending, generally to the right of John on foreign policy, to the left of John on regulation of industry, generally to the right of John on civil liberties (although that one gets complicated as I don't see all civil liberties as "property rights" centric), and generally to the left of John on Healtcare. But I find myself to the right of the Democratic party on taxes, to the right of the Democratic party on regulations, to the right of the Democratic party on civil liberties (again that one is complicated), to the right of the Democratic party on spending, and to the right of the Democratic party on Healtcare. What that means is that I am closer to the Republican position than the Democratic position on most of the major issues of the day, even if I don't find myself too enamored with most of their specific proposals. Indeed, my main issue with the Republicans is their view that all problems are solved by cutting taxes. Similarly, I am not a big fan of the Democratic tendency to see all problems as resulting from too little intervention on the part of the government. Both parties, at the end of the day get my ire for their willingness to pass ineffective, poorly conceived policy in order to look like they are "doing something" in a "bipartisan" compromise. Truly non-partisan political positions are not compromises between the two party positions. They are based on the merit of the idea itself, regardless of where it comes from.
Maybe NM if you would ever show up on a thread except to defend Dems and attack Republicans or toe the lion on the AGW cult, it might not appear that you are such a Dem. I have never once seen you get on a thread and go after a Dem. But if there is anything bad to be said about a Republican, you seem to appear. You spend endless inches defending Weiner but there is no way would have written a sentence defending a Republican in the same situation.
You are great at putting out platitudes about what a centrist you are. But whenever there is a specific issue that requires that you take a specific position, you always fall to one side. I think you just claim to be a centrist so you can avoid being called out for the partisan you are. I think it is fundementally dishonest. It is just a line of bullshit you feed people. And until I see you actually take a position on a specific issue that is at issue right now that deviates from the DNC talking points, I am going to continue to call you on it.
John,
I can't help it if you don't pay attention to what I write. Really, not my problem. Let's just take Healthcare and AGW, for examples. I don't agree with the Democratic policies on either issue. I have stated this many times here on H&R. Did you notice? Didn't think so.
I have never once seen you get on a thread and go after a Dem.
Go after? Clearly, John, I tend to take the contrarian position on most threads here at H&R. That doesn't provide many opportunities for me to "go after" Democrats as their positions are the ones being criticized. But don't confuse criticism of the argument against a proposal as support for that proposal. So, for instance, I find the Healthcare reform bill passed under Obama to be a mess that takes us in exactly the wrong direction. That doesn't mean I buy into the silliness about the healthcare mandate put forth here. The specific "can't regulate inactivity" argument is poorly thought out, imo. Doesn't mean I support the bill in which the mandate is embedded.
But if there is anything bad to be said about a Republican, you seem to appear.
I don't spent that much time on H&R (^_~).
You think it is a "mess and taking us in the wrong direct" whatever that means. But the main arguements against it you think are sily.
That is just the kind of "above it all" dishonest smug crap I am talking about. You speak in general meaningless platitudes when criticizing dems. You never have a specific criticism and always have something bad to say about Republicans.
You are just a leftist concern troll. I wish you would just be honest.
You think it is a "mess and taking us in the wrong direct" whatever that means. But the main arguements against it you think are sily.
You think the main argument against the Healthcare reform is the constitutionality of the mandate? Interesting. I think the main argument against the Healthcare reform is the reification of everything that is currently wrong with the system in more extreme forms (e.g., tying insurance more tightly to your employer, making insurance the way routine healthcare costs are paid for, rather than insurance against catastropic costs).
It takes a certain level of stupidity and childishness to post stupid things like that.
Nah. Just beer.
But, you repeat yourself.
STFU BITCH
I know the Libertarians. The Libertarians don't do that.
Pro Libertate is Urkobold and for at least a year it was not widely know that he was....or at least i could not figure it out.
I have posted as Kennewick Man...i think Rather's troll Rather retarded is probably a libertarian.
I think Epi gets trolled by libertarians...as well as just about every political persuasion out there.
Assholery does not abide by any particular political persuasion.
Well maybe totalitarianism.
And since everyone but libertarians have at least a little totalitarian in them, then John is right? I really need to stop contradicting myself.
'Rather retarted' is helle. He will post consecutively on comments in the middle of the night.
The 'rather' spoof is, I think, epi.
Most of the trolls are easy to pick-off; they don't post when their alter-Ego is on vacation.
It is interesting to see people merge into new names, or 'leave' and come back under a new handle.
I never troll anyone without using my blog in the handle but if I forget, I never deny it is me
C'mon people, back to the fun stuff...
"There really is no lie that is too despicable, too hate filled, too disgusting that a Republican operative will not use it. Mr Matt Welch, provider of political rants in the service of evil."
"You're not in the military, and you're a complete moron. how the hell is Obama supposed to lower gas prices when you conserviTARDS keep telling him to let the oil companies do WHATEVER THEY WANT? YOU SAID the "free market" was the solution, and it turns out that the only thing the free market cares about is PROFIT just as liberals have been telling you forever."
"Obama is an intellectual. Like it or not, he has the capability to lead america and the world. i know you all in the right hand side will say, he hasn't done this and he hasn't done that. yea, put Jesus in the white house in this economy, even him would have to use unusual means to come up with a miracle strategy to turn the economy around. He doesn't need scrutiny. What needs to be scrutinized and brought down is someone like Palin because of the unbelievable possibility that she may actually run for president and there may actually be a chance for her to win. if someone like Palin can win election in any part of the world, then it is here in our country because of the apolitical nature of the electorate. Wearing certain types of clothes can bring her votes. The shallowness that exists in the electorate is quite amusing. Hats off to the much deserved scrutiny and also hats off to the diminishing possibility of her being the president of our country."
Wow. He (Obama) doesn't need scrutiny.
I have been reading a lot about the holocaust lately. And you wonder how it could happen. I think one of the ways it happened is that at some point in the 1920s or maybe before German politics became so mindlessly partisan that each side would defend anything on their team. Then a group of homocidal lunatics infiltrated the German right and appealed to people's nationalist sympathies. And people had become so partisan that they defended them no matter what. "Hitler isn't going to kill the Jews" "Hilter is just a nationalist". "Hitler doesn't mean half the stuff he says". "Hitler has a lot of good ideas" and so forth. And then two things happened. First, the mainiacs got access to enough support and power they were able to do real violence on anyone who disagreed with them. This made the partisans afraid to stand up to them. And second, the maniacs finally got enough power to start doing really horrible things. At that point the partisans' consciences prevented them from standing up or admitting the truth because to do so was to also admit their moral culpability for letting the maniacs take over.
This is not to compare Obama or anyone in current politics to the Nazis. They are nothing like the Nazis, thank god. But their partisan supporters (as evidenced by guys like this) are getting awfully close to what the German public was in the 1920s. The only thing that is saving us is that we have been so far lucky enough not to get any real maniacs in politics. But the day we do, guys like this will be mindlessly defending them and making excuses for them just like the Germans did for Hitler (provided of course he is on this guy's team. And that is pretty scary when you think about it.
"But their partisan supporters"
Yeah, nothing like his partisan opponents who put posters up of him wearing a turban, yell "you lie" in chambers while he is speaking, pronounce him a "secret muslim" and non-citizen motivated by Kenyan anti-colonialism and hate for white people. Yea, the opposition to Obama is cool-headed and moderate.
I never mentioned one side or another. I said "partisan", which can come in any stripe. The example given just happened to come from your side. Nothing to say it couldn't have come from the other side.
But the fact that you are so defensive about it and jump to the "the other side is worse defense" shows that you suffer from this disease as well.
If you find yourself frequently defending people on your side by saying "they do it too," you probably have a problem. For example, any Republican who defended Larry Craig by pointing to Bill Clinton, had a problem. Any Democrat who defends Barney Frank by pointing to some Republican crook, has a problem.
Seriously MNG< name five current Democrats you think are unfit for public life. I will give you five Republicans
Olympia Snow
Mitt Romney
Haley Barbour
Newt Gingrich
Susan Collins
I wouldn't vote for any of those five for dog catcher.
Now you name five Democrats you would say the same about. And they have to either hold a national office or be running for one today. No naming Lyndon Johnson or Andrew Jackson. They have to be relevent.
If you can't do that, you are exactly the kind of person I am talking about.
John
You're problem is you don't pay attention to any actual people you talk to and what they say, just the "general liberal" bogeyman that haunts your nightmares.
Let's take the Big Cheese himself. At various times here on H & R I've 1. opposed his nomination on the grounds he was an inexperienced lightweight from an urban machine known for its corruption 2. criticized his breaking of his promises regarding the WOT 3. criticized his breaking of his promises regarding the WOD 4. criticized him for his unprecedented breaking of the War Powers Act, 5. criticized his health care plan as stupid and immoral 6. criticized his cao abd trade plan as a job killer 7. criticized his stimulus plan as wasteful and not having enough tax breaks 8. criticized his TARP II plan as socializing costs and privatizing profits.
But you somehow don't remember any of that. It's because what you demand of anyone is that they hate Obama with the same carelessness and vehemence that you do, and when they don't you disregard anything they say and start talking to the evil liberal in your head and under your bed.
I will give you Obama. You only have four to go. If you can't name five people in your party you think are really lousy, then you will pretty much defend anyone with the right letter after their name.
I will go into intricate details telling you why I can't stand some Republicans. Why? Becuse I judge people by who they are not what party they belong to.
You can't seem to do that. If they are Democrats you will do anything to excuse or defend them. You are just cheating yourself. You are a smarter person than that. I don't understand what they attraction of having such a slavish devotion based on something as dumb as a political party. And worse still, you are just hurting your own cause by continueing the idea that no one on the your side should ever have to be held accountable for anything.
How sad you didn't see my post two minutes before yours!
Interesting too that the few Democrats I admire are known for being on the conservative side of the party while the GOPers you hate are on the liberal side of yours. It's true you are not a partisan John, more like an ideologue.
I criticize Obama from the left (not pushing card check) and the right (on immigration). That's what a non-partisan, non-ideologue looks like.
"It's true you are not a partisan John, more like an ideologue."
"I criticize Obama from the left (not pushing card check) and the right (on immigration). That's what a non-partisan, non-ideologue looks like."
Ideologues are evil! - proof that MNG is really Bill O'Reilly.
Oh, and five Democrats unfit for public life?
Let's make it easier and just name the handful of national Democrats I like. Webb, Warner, Tester.
That is all.
I've said many times here the last candidate for public office I not only voted for but volunteered for and donated to was Ehrlich for Governor for Pete's sake. But go ahead, argue with the liberal that exist as defined by Hannity-Limbaugh, you can't help yourself.
Quit copping out. Name names. If you can't name names you are just weaseling for the sake of argument. Go on record saying "this guy sucks" or admit you are a midless partisan
I don't know how to be more clear, if their names are not Webb, Warner and Tester I probably do not like them.
But of course I don't hate them with the same careless vehemence and easily manufactured sense of outrage that you do, and that is what ultimately matters to you.
It's better than that. I can usually name more GOPers that I admire than Dems at any given time. Let's see, currently I admire Lugar, Hatch, Brown, Ron and Rand Paul, Gary Johnson. Hell, that's twice as many Dems as I could name!
*I should say so far I like Cuomo up in NY, but then I'd have to say that I also like Jindhal...
Then pick five names at random and tell me how awful they are. The fact that you will not say "Hillary Clinton is horrible and here is why" but will only speak in generalities and in passive negatives like "anyone but" just says you don't mean what you say and are just trying to win the argument.
And Webb is a crap weasel who ran as a moderate but ended up voting for the entire Obama agenda. The only reason he won in the first place was the meccaca deal. And now he won't even have the decency to let the people of Virginia kick his lying miserable ass out of office. I don't care if he was in the Reagan Administration. He sucks.
I hate the Clintons, I was a big Jerry Brown supporter in 92 and they lied and smeared him awufl. H. Clinton strikes me as a sort of reverse carpetbagger who lives life only to be near power.
I have no use for Babs here in MD and Shumer in NY, or Max Baucus and Ben Nelson right off my head.
Can you at least try to read the posts before you respond there NM. You could maybe say Collins and Snow are on the list for lack of purity, but Gingrich and Barbour are classic movement conservatives. They are the last people you would kick out for lack of purity. I don't like them because they are lousy, dishonest people not because they are impure.
But since you are the most dishonest nasty partisan on this board, bar none, I will defer to your general knowedge of tribalism since you live it every day.
Can you at least try to read the posts before you respond
As can you.
But since you are the most dishonest nasty partisan on this board, bar none, I will defer to your general knowedge of tribalism since you live it every day.
Which team am I on again?
Way to skip the middle section where I explain that there is no reason anyone interested in purity would have chosen those five.
You are not on any team NM. You just always happen to agree with the Democrats on any particular issue. It is just an amazing run of coincidence.
John,
Since you missed the point of my original post, I am not sure it is worth getting into this.
As for my coherence with the Democratic party...Huh? I would need some citations on that. I believe you mistake my criticism of weak arguments for policy positions coming from the Republicans as an endorsement of the Democratic position.
"I believe you mistake my criticism of weak arguments for policy positions coming from the Republicans as an endorsement of the Democratic position."

I can see calling NM a contrarian (to his credit imo) like Epi has, but it truly takes some warped vision to call him a nasty partisan.
He was lying.
Hardly the same thing as Nazi politics in the 1920s and 30s. Read your history. And while you're at it read some radical leftist blogs. It will chill your blood.
Except Schicklgruber was a socialist, not a righty. A militant, but a collectivist.
Well, everyone was turning to central planning back then, people thought capitalism had failed. As Hayek said central planning could support any number of goals, for Hitler it was militaristic racial nationalism, hardly bellweathers of the current "military loathing, mulitlateralist, multicultural" left.
He was a socialist. World War I Germany was the first example of real socialism put into practice. It was called "war socialism". A lot of people on the Left in America loved it and thought it was the model of the future.
Hitler was not a communist or a Marxist. But he was not a capitalist by any measure. It was partially racial. Capitalism was a decadent Jewish creation.
I can understand why modern liberals are embarassed by the fact that he was a socialist. But lying doesn't help. Just man up and admit what he was.
Everyone was turning to central planning at this time, as Hayek noted in The Road to Serfdom.
"World War I Germany was the first example of real socialism put into practice. It was called "war socialism".
Of course Hitler was not near power at that time.
War Socialism was Hitler's economic model. "Everyone was" is just not true. Roosevelt, although he may have wanted to, did not impliment war socilism or anything approaching what Hitler did. A lot of people on the Left were critical of Roosevelt in the 30s for not following the models of Hitler and Musolini.
Get over it. Hitler was an economic leftist. If you had lived in the 1930s, you probably would have found his economic policies fairly agreeable even if you understood how horrible his racial policies were.
"Hitler was an economic leftist."
The actual economic leftists in Germany who opposed him to the death would have found that as interesting as the Right-wing Junkers who flocked to his cause.
The policies were what they were. The communists objected to him. But he was a socialist through and through.
And the Junkers were socialist as hell and hated the capitalist system. Right wing meant something different back then. Right wing meant you were a monarchist and a nationalist. It didn't mean you were a capitalist like it does now.
"Right wing meant something different back then. Right wing meant you were a monarchist and a nationalist. It didn't mean you were a capitalist like it does now."
So I was right when I originally said:
"Right wing meant something different back then. Right wing meant you were a monarchist and a nationalist. It didn't mean you were a capitalist like it does now."
As even you acknowledge Hitler and his allies were the Right that existed in Germany.
But that "right" economically corresponds to what we would call the "left" today. I know you are not bright MNG, but surely you dont' think the labels somehow make the reality.
This from a guy who thinks today's Democrats and Progressives can be tarred by the sins of Woodrow Wilson!
Yeah John, like the idea of "company unions" that the fascists pushed and the left has always decried.
Hitler and Mussolini were very explicit about what their socialism meant. They faced class warfare and wanted to unite the classes for nationalism. This meant the employers were supposed to make some concessions and the workers as well, in practice it meant company unions and lining trade unionists against the wall. The Junkers and wealthy as you note threw their support behind the Nazis so the Nazis must not have been the pro-worker socialist union supporters you want to conjure up...
"the Nazis must not have been the pro-worker socialist union supporters"
Socialist unions are not pro-worker. They are just branches of the government.
Roosevelt, although he may have wanted to, did not impliment war socilism
Wage and price controls, rationing schemes, concentration camps, ...
Precisely. The waivers given to political friends of Obama are about as close to Mussolini and Hitlers methods as can be imagined in 2011.
Jews, as historical moneychangers and cultural outcasts, were perfect scapegoats for all ills of society, particularly economic ones.
The waivers given to political friends of Obama are about as close to Mussolini and Hitlers methods as can be imagined in 2011.
A. Demonize an individual or group* publicly. Blame them for some crisis, real or fabricated.
2. When the public has been suitably primed by A., do something which exceeds previous limits of political power in order to "protect" society.
iii) Repeat A. and 2. until dictator for life.
*bankers, car company executives, oil company executives, the "rich", health insurance companies, big pharma
Obama has been busy.
I can understand why modern liberals are embarassed by the fact that [Hitler] was a socialist. But lying doesn't help. Just man up and admit what he was.
For someone who seems to read a lot about WWII, this seems a profoundly ignorant statement. Hitler actively down played the importance of economic policy. ("The basic feature of our economic theory is that we have no theory at all"). The Nazis had no coherent economic position. Their economic policies were designed to increase their own power and were piecemeal and tactical.
Here is a great example of what I am talking about NM. Here we have a specific issue that requires a specific position and sure enough you fall right into the Lib talking point that Hitler was not a socialist. Of course you think that because that is what team blue thinks.
And ideologically the Nazis were socialists. The fact they never were able to achieve the full economic policy they wanted and ended up having to improvise and put up what amounted to warmed over Keynesian economics, doesn't mean they were not socialists. And there was nothing econmically "right" by the modern definition about them.
John,
Again, you misinterpret. I am saying that any consideration of the Hitler that emphasizes his economic positions/policies in order to put him in one camp or the other is misguided as he was a man who did not think about economics and was not guided by an economic ideology. He was socialistic when it served his ends, but held many views that were coherent with a capitalist world view (competition breeds success, etc...). Like most politicians he was interested in power, not economics. As a result, the party he led had a mismash of policies, some coherent with the term "socialist" some not so much. The better term would be fascist.
He was insane. It is a bit difficult to pin him down to one coherent agenda granted. Mussilini in contrast was not insane. And he had a very coherent economic policy and served as the basis for a lot of what Roosevelt tried in the 1930s. Regardless, whatever Hitler and the rest of the fascists were, capilitalist or anything resembling the modern day right they were not.
Regardless, whatever Hitler and the rest of the fascists were, capilitalist or anything resembling the modern day right they were not.
That is why there is a term used to categorize them (i.e. Fascist). Now, of course, that term is used today to indicate anyone who puts the interests of the state ahead of the individual. Some on the right are very enamored of state power, and so they get called fascists. Those on the left who are very enamored of state power get called communists. The semantic territory covered by "communist", makes the use of "fascist" to talk about those on the left that are enamored of state power pleonastic, while on the right there is no such crowding out, so "fascist" gets used for statists on the right. Corporatist collusion between the state and industry were a large part of fascist economic policies (when they served the state). When rent-seeking behavior of big-business results in distortions of government policy, the analogy works for some people.
Actually, the term "fascist" seems to be used for anything with which its user disagrees, particularly when its user is on the left.
Ted S.
Indeed. I think it has, at least in part, to do with the book "Friendly Fascism," but I may be wrong.
Don't waste your time NM, John traffics in careless, illogical fare. To wit:
"Hitler was an economic leftist. "
"It is a bit difficult to pin him down to one coherent agenda granted."
"Then a group of homocidal lunatics infiltrated the German right and appealed to people's nationalist sympathies."
Amazingly, those three positions on Hitler on the Nazis, that they were leftists, they were the right, and that you can't really pin them down at all, were all given by John in the same freaking thread!
Don't waste your time NM, John traffics in careless, illogical fare.
That may be even more ironic than John calling people out for being partisan. (~_^)
Just to be sure that isn't taken wrong, the "don't waste your time with John" is the source of the irony.
Look at the Nazi Platform.
Abolition of unearned (work and labour) incomes. Breaking of debt (interest)-slavery.
In consideration of the monstrous sacrifice in property and blood that each war demands of the people, personal enrichment through a war must be designated as a crime against the people. Therefore we demand the total confiscation of all war profits.
We demand the nationalisation of all (previous) associated industries (trusts).
We demand a division of profits of all heavy industries.
We demand an expansion on a large scale of old age welfare.
The National Socialist German Worker's Party was rightwing only in comparison to the communist party. They fought the communists in the streets because they were trying to appeal to the same population, and there wasn't room for two left wing parties in Parliament.
To be considered a right wing party economically you need to support
1. Property rights
2. Free trade
and oppose
1. Mandatory or coercive employment laws.
2. Redistributive schemes.
Ideally a right wing government would also balance the budget and keep the currency strong.
Look, it's appealing for liberals to pretend Hitler was right wing because, well, he's Hitler and rah rah go team go. Fact is though that is the left, and it has always been the left, that advocates for the expansion of the State to redistribute wealth and plan economies and shape people's behavior. Likewise, the whole Junker canard is appealing because it neatly ties in the left's anti-capitalism, but more importantly soothes over worry regarding the combination of an unchecked government coupled with the plebiscite. Instead of the people of Germany electing Hitler, we have him installed via trickery with a shadowy cabal of businessmen pulling the strings. This is a much better story from their point of view then the dreary reality of what actually happened.

So, just read through this thread and I come away with a few distinct impressions - Ken Schultz thinks Palin is a female Ronald Reagan, HTS is the most entertaining anti-Semite that Jehovah ever made, and the posters at CNN are reactionary monkeybots. Right? Now let me add a prurient bit to the mix - does SP do A-T-M?
When is this journalistic scrutiny going to be applied to politicians who wield actual power?
Soon.
Just as soon as the legacy legitimate media get their bailout.
...of the 57th U.S.A. State of PockyStahn and I affirm that Obama is a true Bible-thumping intellectual mediocrity wearing the grass crown of a world-conquering Peace Laureate. Forward into battle -- the 58th state is on the horizon!
In the age of Twitter, can no sin remain secret? Few know the answer better than Ryan Giggs. The married soccer star sought and won an injunction that barred London's feisty tabloids from publishing his name in connection with a dalliance. But then the users of Twitter rose up like a Greek chorus, dispatching electronic missives that unmasked Giggs as the Don Juan of the pitch.

Ugh, triple post, my bad. Tip: don't post while your kid is showing you their latest basketball trick...
Wanted to put this in from the article:
The debate here is casting a light on what critics call Britain's excessive privacy laws.
Meant as a tool to defend reputations in the face of an aggressive tabloid press, an injunction effectively prevents libel or infringement of privacy before it happens for those who can afford the legal firepower needed to win one.
A World Without Chain Stores?
A chain-free United States wouldn't necessarily be the utopia many imagine. Americans wouldn't necessarily have well-paid work selling unique merchandise produced domestically, rather than low-wage jobs peddling junk made in China. Without chains, there would undoubtedly be more independent stores, but few would be run by prosperous shopkeepers. Back when independent stores were to be found on every corner, their owners typically worked around the clock to eke out the most tenuous of livings. Their employees shared long hours and poor wages, learning skills that would, they hoped, enable them to become struggling independent shopkeepers themselves.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/.....story.html
Never understood the liiberal hate for chain stores and love for small proprietorships. A lot of the latter are Scroogish-jerks and large companies are a lot more likely to be progressive in many ways.
Cultural. At some point post Reagan, liberalism became the ideology of white snobs. Somehow liberalism grew completely away from its working class roots. And the objection to chain stores is an example of that.
John, do you read American Conservative or other paleo mags? They are quite critical of chains too.
It's partyl a nostalgia thing, partly a union thing, partly a fear-of-centralization thing. Ultimately I don't find it very persuasive.
No. I don't read the pleo mags because frankly I consider them to be closet leftist. I can't figure out what is supposed to be conservative about Pat Buchanan. He hates the free market and has about the same view of American history and foreign policy that Noam Chomsky has.
The hatred of chain stores is just another way of hating the general public. The wrong people go to them. That is what the whole thing is about.
"I can't figure out what is supposed to be conservative about Pat Buchanan."
Like many contemporary movement conservatives, you know very little about your own beloved cause. Buchanan was there with Nixon and the Silent Majority and at the beginning of the Reagan Revolution. He's fought the good fight for decades and has a consistent ideology rooted in Kirk, Burke and Buckley.
I voted for Buchanan for President. That man has done more for conservatism than keyboard kommandoes like you ever have or will.
MNG, you are comically smug and ignorant. I know exactly who Buchanan is. And I read his book "Right From the Begining" way back when. In it, he lauds free markets and the cold war and pretty much everything I agree with. In the early 1990s he totally changed. He became anti-free market and a full fledged isolationist, which he never was when he worked under Reagan as evidenced by his book.
You are so smug. And then you are comically ignorant. "Oh you don't know anyting about your cause". Wrong I know a lot. A lot more than you do. If you don't understand the bizare transformation that Buchanan went through in the 1990s, you really don't know much of anything about he Conservative movement.
That is okay. I can forgive you not knowing anything. It is the totally uncalled for condescension and smugness that is offensive.
Conservatism has not historically been about capitalism and free markets John, it has been about prudence and embracing traditional wisdom and ways. As such it has always been a little wary of "unbridled capitalism" and the age of "sophists and calculators" as opposed to a nostalgic past and immutable truths.
Read your Kirk for pete's sake. Buchanan's people left him, not vice versa (and he explains this in his other books he wrote in the 90's btw).
Conservatism has not historically been about capitalism and free markets
ummm I think Coolidge and McKinley would disagree with you.
it has been about prudence and embracing traditional wisdom and ways
As well as Lincoln.
I know exactly who Buchanan is. And I read his book "Right From the Begining" way back when. In it, he lauds free markets and the cold war and pretty much everything I agree with. In the early 1990s he totally changed.
Did he change or did he reject the neo-con crony capitalist aliance that gained control of the GOP?
You do realize that both of those groups are closer to socialism than they are to free market advocates, right John?
Honestly MNG, are the people you normally talk to so fucking stupid that you have to explain the Buchanan worked for Nixon? I know you probably hang out with liberals and liberals are generally silly ignorant and uneducated, especially when it comes to history. But damn, your comment is one hell of a pile of stupid.
No, I just assume you are that stupid, from, you know, talking with you here. You seem not to know that Buchanan's roots in conservatism are o deep he has farts that are more conservative than you.
Buchanan was once a conservative. He certainly was in the 80s. But he stopped being one in the 1990s. You consider him a conservative because he is an embarassing old fool that you can use to embarass conseravtives with.
Jesus Christ MNG, can you please just once come up with something that is not straight out of the DNC talking points? Just once. Can you have an independent thought. I keep rooting for you to have one. But you always disapoint.
Buchanan is conservative is a DNC talking point? You're losing what little grasp on coherence you had here John.
I'll just repeat, you don't get to drum Buchanan out of conservatism, that man has farts that are more conservative than you. He fits in with a long tradition of conservatism that distrusts industrial capitalism (the Agrarians?) and were isolationists (Liberty League). But you don't know your own movement.
It is perfectly coherent. You are just a dishonest hack. Conservatives hate Buchanan and want nothing to do with him. Liberals hold him up as a "conservative" because they can use him as an embarrassing example of what it means to be a conservative.
It is perfectly clear and you know it.
And you and Buchanan absolutely agree with each other about the threat posed by Isreal and world Jewery. I am surprised you won't claim in as a liberal MNG.
I voted for Buchanan for President.
Another victim of the butterfly ballot.
how the hell is Obama supposed to lower gas prices
Right on, dude! Power to the people! Chavez sets gas prices. Fidel sets gas prices. Why won't you evil racist obstructionists let Obama to set gas prices?
OBAMA KNOWS HOW MUCH A GALLON OF GAS SHOULD COST.
as much as possible.
as much as possible.
it turns out that the only thing the free market cares about is PROFIT just as liberals have been telling you forever.
Fucking causation- fucking sequence errors!- how do they work?
I just figured it out; Pawlenty (currently on FOX) sounds like a sniveling child, complaining about not getting picked first for kickball.
What a fucking loser.
That is a good way to put it. I don't get the attraction to the guy. Him and Daniels both strike me as losers.
Democrats will say that they want to face Palin, but it's really people like Pawlenty and Hunstman they want. Squishy moderates with no personality whom Obama would squash.
And that's why the media keeps propping them up.
There is something to that. The media does a lot of concern trolling when it comes to Republicans.
+ The Truth's sinophilia
The shallowness that exists in the electorate is quite amusing.
Yes.
Yes, it is.
Since a Sarah Palin thread must necessarily be as shallow and pointless as a paraplegic toddler's wading pool, here are a couple of photos I took yesterday of a church picnic, the star of which was (no, not Jesus) the local sheriff department's pride and joy: an armored personnel carrier. Alt text suggestions hereby solicited.
http://216.77.188.54/coDataIma.....1-crop.jpg
http://216.77.188.54/coDataIma.....2-crop.jpg
Background: The guy in camo is not an actual soldier but a sheriff's deputy dressed up like a soldier. It must have been convincing, as a clueless admirer said to him, "Thanks for serving and protecting our country. We appreciate all you do." He replied, "Actually, I'm a sheriff's deputy." His admirer stammered and said, "Oh, um, well, thanks for protecting us too. You, uh, you have a hard job too."
He left after two hours. There were no incidents. The vehicle cost the sheriff's dept. $237,000, provided through grants from Homeland Security (and people like you).
If I was that guy I would have responded with, "A cop!? Why the hell are you dressed like a soldier?"
Any hassle he may have given me would have been totally worth making him feel small and dumb.
He seemed like a decent enough guy. The militarization of his employer is creepy, though, and the unconcerned acceptance of that vehicle at the picnic by the revelers is disturbing. Everyone here seems to be okay with it. Maybe it's because they didn't (directly) pay for it, and they have no ethical or political problem with military hardware and tactics being used against their civilian neighbors (the "bad guys"). The county sheriff uses it in parades, proudly walking beside it, much to the chagrin of his political opponents.
Driver, others: Fucking Fluttershy! Where is that ingrate bitch?
Last guy in line: Oh, I got juice for her. She'll be back.
"I'm here to make sure the children take turns in the bounce house."
In all seriousness, this past week, our local paper had serious instructions on how to secure the "bounce house" so the kiddiez didn't get hurt.
First, aim the machine guns away from the bounce house.
Second, deactivate the search and kill robot.
That man has done more for conservatism than keyboard kommandoes like you ever have or will.
WTF? The guy's a senile blathering idiot.
If Buchanan ever actually said anything sensible, that day is long past.
And-
Brace yourselves; Christiane Amanpour is concerned (DEEPLY!!!) about Weiner.
Christiane and Claire Shipman are deeply concerned about the mixture of capital and testosterone as well.
It is a long DNC talking point that Buchanon is a "conservative" even though he long since left the movement and no one but liberals pay any attention to him. And DNC talking points is how MNG and NM both roll.
...because he outs their leader for being a common warmonger.

Sorry. I don't have an opinion about Pat Buchanan. At all. Why would the DNC have talking points about him?
I'm somewhere between conservative and libertarian and Pat Buchanan, despite a few wacky ideas, is right way more than the neo con chicken hawks and the crony capitalistsocialists that make up current GOP establishment.
WTF is your complaint against Buchanan, or are you some establishment douchebag?
Weiner!
I hate the Clintons
They're from Arkansas, you know.
TRAKTUR PUUUUUUUUUUUUUULZ!
Not enough hits for this story. Let me try to goose the numbers:

"He is a prodigy of the Koch Family,"
I think she knows not what "prodigy" means.
I do like the capital "F" for the Koch Family. Nice touch.
I mean, "Koch family" sounds kind of pastoral. But "Koch Family", now there's something to worry about.
It's exactly like Corleone Family. Libertarians are mafia. It's obvious.
I think she meant to say, "he has a prodigious Koch!!!!"
minge to basketball playing spawn: Dammit! Don't distract daddy while he's working. Or maybe you'd like to live in a world where everyone thinks John won this argument. You'd like that, wouldn't you?!Nobody appreciates ALL THAT I DO FOR THE INTERNET!!
In what is sort of a miracle (gleaning anything from the John/MNG debates) I also saw that, and wondered if minge's wife thinks he's facebook cheating on her.
Honey? Honey...why don't why we go to the park...?
I scrolled through that mess. If it wasn't Sunday, I would say that their boss's management of employee time has to be among the worst ever. I mean three to four to seven paragraphs every few minutes for hours at a time!
I think today is a slow day as well; usually they're much more prolific.
Once again, people are talking about a has-been ex-beauty-queen ex-governor from nowhereland. Amazing. I'm almost starting to think she's a PR genius, because she owns all of your asses without even breaking a sweat. Are you really all this stupid?
Dude, some of us could care less and just love drinking beer, watching the Red Sox, fucking around, and reading Hercule. Is this rather posting as you?
I just do not understand the enduring obsession with Palin. I just cannot comprehend it, and the Sox suck. Fuck, the Bruins couldn't even beat the Canucks yesterday. Why does Boston suck so much?
Fuck, the Bruins couldn't even beat the Canucks yesterday
Considering that they didn't play yesterday would have made that pretty difficult.
Friday, whatever. Am I supposed to know what fucking day it is?
Am I supposed to know what fucking day it is?
Good point.
Fucking weekends. How do they work?
The Sox? That's baseball, right? Meh.
I don't get Palin either. I don't like her, and I don't think I'm Team Blue in the least. I have come to loathe this stuff. As for Boston, I'm a Whaler fan, but I hate the Canucks right now.
At least MA is fully nude with booze? Oh, and Pedroia just went deep. We stomp Yankee crap these days. And so did Ortiz during the writing. Yikes.
Man, I wish they'd get rid of another new south team and bring back the Whalers. They had the coolest uniforms.
I agree. Bettman is a disaster, and Atlanta is moving to Winnipeg because Canadians and Northeners love hockey and markets are markets? No kidding.
BTW, Vancouver seems to have sorta borrowed those Whaler colors, though I'm not sure if the Canucks might have worn them in the AHL, and the Whale actually stole them once they moved to the NHL.
My dream at eighteen wasn't to play the majors, but to play for the minor circuit, instead, and cruise every visitation town for strange. I figured I was good enough for that, and likely that was true at the time, but then I got distracted by this huge waste of time called college.
*laughs*
I imagine that minor league strange is strange, but not minor league, necessarily. Hockey or baseball?
Definitely baseball. To even score the strange you gotsta keep the face pretty.
I went to Whalers game in Hartford when I was a kid. Fun stuff.
Ortiz is apparently back on the juice. I wonder how long before he pops positive. No way should someone his age have a career rebirth without roids.
And just to show I am not just being a Yankee partisan, I am quite sure Colon used HGH or something to come back at his age.
This anti-Red Sox fan thought he was gonna have a sweet summer enjoying their misery just a few weeks ago. How many babies have the Red Hoofs sacrificed to Mehrunes Dagon (guess where I've been doing for the past three weeks) to get that winning streak?
Is beating Toronto like "beating" the retarded kid at math? I mean...Toronto, dude.
That's why I say it is all luck derived from human sacrifices. Not like the Braves having to chase Philly. Now, damn, that's a team.
C'mon, swept the Yankees.
That lineup is just starting to hit as a unit.
Now, the starting pitching? They need Wakefield to give them innings.
And if you need a 45 year old in your rotation you're in trouble.
Andrew Miller?
Neither the Red Sox or the Yankees are winning anything this year. The Rangers are younger and better than both. And the Phillies are better than that.
It should be okay. It is not like Red Sox fans aren't used to losing or anything.
where I have been doing
WTF? That is bad even for me. Where I been doing? I grabbed Red Mountain by her haunches and fucked the living shit out of her.
Elder Scrolls reference for the motherfucking thread win!
*Goes to chest* *dusts off Internet* Alan, I award this to you, good sir.
Thank you kindly, sir.
Yeah, Epi, a lot of folks are just that stupid. And a lot of them went to J school, and didn't pay enough attention to figure out that a fellow J school grad is leading them around by their fucking noses, to which they scream for more.
At this point, Palin is pretty much the female Donald Trump character in this bullshit. I wouldn't be surprised if the underlying 'lasting' support for her political fantasies comes from people so immersed in knee jerk reaction to most of the media morons that insist on continually with their favorite 'scary Barbie' doll. Well, that, and she's got a helluva platform at this point, a lot of her own Discovery Channel contract own making, to fling plentiful low hanging and mushy fruit squarely on target at Skippy's jug eared big ass lying head.
Does any of this make her in any way presidential material? No, mostly because of her track record at just saying "Fuck it" and quitting when people get just too darn mean to her. . .from my perspective. I could care less for her carefully crafted and shouted out 'policy' positions, whatever those are, likely SoCon drenched as they are. . .
That's exactly my point. How dumb do you have to be to get played like a marionette by Palin?
Not quite dumb enough to think Mitt Romney is in any way, shape, or form a viable candidate.
Or does something a bit more vague cover it?
That's exactly my point. How dumb do you have to be to get played like a marionette by Palin?
What was your SAT score? You comment more about Palin than just about everyone else here. It's almost like Episiarch is the Andrew Sullivan of H&R commenters.
710 verbal, 740 math. Beat that, internet tuff gai. Fuck, your fucking crush on her is so bad you'll do anything stupid to defend her. Grow some balls, dude.
You do have an odd fixation on Palin. I don't SIV would defend her no matter what. And her supporters seem to be saying reasonable things on here. It is her detractors that seem to be saying crazy shit, P Brooks being the lone exception.
Nope. Not lone. I don't like the media treatment of Palin -- which is insane -- and I don't like her.
You're shrieking about Palin worse than the worst TEAM BLUE partisan Episiarch.
Your disdain for her far exceeds my support.Oh, and you beat me on the math.
The funny thing is, I haven't said anything other than that I'm sick of hearing about her, but it's your supreme defensiveness about her that makes you think I'm "shrieking". To you, not loving her is "shrieking".
You might want to obsess a little less. And what was your verbal?
You're obsessed with my positive opinion of Palin's political skills and ideological leanings. You chime in frothing nearly everytime I comment on her. Same with Bachmann, who is a bit less "libertarian-leaning". 700 SAT, 76 PSAT, 730 GRE, IIRC.
No, you said you didn't understand Why people were interested in Palin. She is a fascinating story, sexy and entertaining and unconventional. ( And libertarian on economics and personal liberty) She is the MSM's perfect foil, with staying power. If you don't understand Palin's attractiveness as a subject, you dont

How dumb do you have to be to get played like a marionette by Palin?
About as dumb as when you got played (repeatedly) by Balko?
It is funny. People always say she is a SOCON but they never give a single example of what the woman has ever said that makes her a SOCON. All I can see is that she didn't axe her kid and went to church a few times. That is a pretty low bar isn't it?
The Palin phenomena is really about America and its neurosis more than her. Everyone, including those who claim she is unimportant project something they either hate or love onto her.
If someone likes her, they project all that they want a politician to be onto her. I like the woman, but she is nothing like Reagan. But a lot of people will tell you she is. I really have no idea if she is an actual reformer. But people think she is. If someone doesn't like her, they project everything they don't like onto her. It even caught you. You hate SOCONs and don't' like her so you assume she is a SOCON. You know she could have a track record of saying fuck it and quitting and still not be a SOCON? You just assume she is because that is what people do. The whole thing is bizarre.
Even after releasing of her e-mails which show hundreds of them talking about her pregancy and dealing with the fact that her kid was going to be downs, Andrew Sullivan and many on the hard left still believe she was never pregnant. Has there ever been a more bizarre obsession than that?
As best I can tell, Palin is about as much of a SoCon as Ron Paul but is substantially less of a SoCon than Rand Paul.
That sounds about right. She never seems to talk about social issues. I have never heard the woman say a single fucking word about porn, or booze, or "moral values" whatever those are. The SOCONS seem to support her. But I think that is an example of people projecting that I mention above.
If someone likes her, they project all that they want a politician to be onto her.
You know who else was like that recently?
And Palin still is the only politician and history ever to leave office and have it held against her by libertarians. Quitting office should be something that every libertarian applauds in a politician.
Wouldn't it be great if every politician said fuck it when they got tired of their job and had a better opportunity than cravenly holding onto power until they die or go to prison?
She owns all of your asses without even breaking a sweat. Are you really all this stupid?
Are you really this obnoxious and arrogant and ironically oblivious to your own unself-awareness?*

Nice
Aside from the "point" of the article, which is, "Trust me- 'real' Republicans don't want Sarah Palin in the race" we get this little nugget:
If Palin wants to campaign in Iowa her time is running out. Gov. Terry Branstad, a Republican, says any candidate who wants to get in has to do so this month or next. Branstad wants a long campaign with a lot of candidates?partly to help build the party, but also because it's good for his state economy. Still, he speaks to a truth everyone in Iowa politics believes: Popularity alone won't get voters to the caucuses in January. George W. Bush waited until June 1999 to make his first visit to the state as a candidate, but he also had an organization already built and in place. "Every Republican candidate will have to run a 99-county campaign," says Branstad. "This isn't like the Democratic race where you can just visit the big cities."
Who the fuck put Branstad in charge of the electoral process? If the Federal Election Commission serves any useful purpose whatsoever, it should be to slap this dipshit down.
The thing that makes slate commenters so much better than CNN commenters is that, although they repeat the same talking points, they do so with longer sentences and better grammar.
Don't you understand PBrooks. A bunch of local gadflies in New Hampshire and Iowa are the gatekeepers of American Democracy. They get to decide who you get to choose from to be President. How dare this women infringe on their God given right.
More:
Palin also faces another problem in Iowa. Michele Bachmann, an Iowa native, is challenging her among Tea Party members and movement conservatives. This is Palin's base. And Bachmann's campaign manager, Ed Rollins, says she will "be so much more substantive" than Palin. "People are going to say, 'I gotta make a choice and go with the intelligent woman who's every bit as attractive,' " he says. This isn't coming from the lamestream media or a member of the GOP establishment like Karl Rove: Rollins worked for Mike Huckabee in 2007 and managed the Reagan re-election campaign in 1984. Palin is going to have to compete hard, and the competition might not be delicate.
Working for Huckabee makes you smart?
WTF? Do any of these people ever manage to punch through the bubble, even for a few seconds?
Working for Huckabee makes you smart?
Yes, running the 2008 GOP primary Huckster campaign makes you smart.
Just like running the Dean 2004 campaign makes Joe Trippi look smart.
When a political op can take one of these losers from nowheresville into second place they are considered smart.
"....and managed the Reagan re-election campaign in 1984."
That's like Horace Grant jumping up and down about how he was instrumental in winning an NBA title. Never mind that it was Michael and Scotty and three tomato cans on the court that actually won them.
+1
has anyone read Kissinger's "On China" yet, or if not why they will refuse to?
And if not this book, what else can I read on my vacation next week?
Episode 2,632,983 in "Women Are Better Than Men".
But there may be something else at work: Research points to a substantial gender gap in the way women and men approach running for office. Women have different reasons for running, are more reluctant to do so and, because there are so few of them in politics, are acutely aware of the scrutiny they draw ? all of which seems to lead to differences in the way they handle their jobs once elected.
"The shorthand of it is that women run for office to do something, and men run for office to be somebody," said Debbie Walsh, director of the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University. "Women run because there is some public issue that they care about, some change they want to make, some issue that is a priority for them, and men tend to run for office because they see this as a career path."
This bitch Walsh must have thought a Rorschach test booklet was a graphical novel. With a cool plot line.
Sexism is wrong. Except when it's women complaining about stupid men.
is the truth misandrist?
Don't forget (not in the article, just standard talking points for the past 40 years):
"The world would be more peaceful if women were in charge because men are warlike by nature."
and
"There are no intrinsic differences between men and women."
Why try to figure out leftist logic?

Quitting office should be something that every libertarian applauds in a politician.
Wouldn't it be great if every politician said fuck it when they got tired of their job and had a better opportunity than cravenly holding onto power until they die or go to prison?
That's fine, if you leave, and DO NOT COME BACK.
I might admire her more if she had stayed, and spent her entire term of office vetoing every single bill which crossed her desk.
She hasn't come back. She wrote a book, made a fortune on a reality show, and runs a facebook page. What is wrong with that? It is not like she is the black Jeses who spent two years voting present in the Senate so he could run for President. Again, people project on her whatever they like or don't like.
Amazing; the cars have returned to the track.
Peter Hitchens can be as hillariously nasty as his brother.
"Why is it so bad to draw a line between the deserving and the undeserving poor? I have searched the Sermon on the Mount for the words 'Blessed are the Spongers' and I cannot find them ? or anything remotely like them. So why does the Archbishop of Canterbury speak as if it was obvious that we should treat people who can work, but won't, in the same way as we treat those who are truly in need?" Because drawing such distinctions would not advance his agenda.
She hasn't come back.
No kidding; she never left.
What is wrong with making millions writing a book and doing a TV series. If Discovery Channel offered you six figures an episode to film your life, you wouldn't do it?
It is a free country. She is not supposed to make a living because people like you find it unseemly? Fuck that and and people like you. I don't see how you can hold it against someone for taking advantage of the opportunities in the private sector she has. It is not like she has (as of yet) run for office and made her money at yours or anyone else's expense.
John John John. You don't understand. Palin kills time. What would we do without her? Get a life?
I have a life douchebag. And if you don't like what I post on here or how much I do, fuck off.
Jeez, and they call me mean!
It's just a little nick. The nerve will be fine. Try to rest it.
I think it's great she did those things and more power to her. The problem is that these things do not make her a good candidate for president.
In my mind she is an attractive option only next to Obama or Romney.
I shouldn't laugh at someone hurting themselves. But fuck it, I will.
Remember, leave guns to the experts. Which means the police and the military. It's just too dangerous to have regular citizens running around with guns. Oh. Wait? (sigh) Another abysmal example of gun handling by a member of the law enforcement community. This time, it's 12-year Denver PD veteran Detective Bret Starnes . . .
columbinecourier.com reports that Det. Starnes had been getting in some range time (yes!) when his pistol jammed. So he returned home to pick up another heater.
Starnes tested the second gun in his master bathroom, "dry-firing" it without ammunition, the report states. He later loaded a 17-round magazine into the gun but said he forgot it contained live rounds when he pulled the trigger again, hitting his left hand. The bullet apparently went through a bathroom mirror but did not go through the wall.
http://thetruthaboutguns.com/2.....t-starnes/
What, do you expect these guys to be experts on firearms?
dunphy has clearly stated our expectations should be otherwise. And this was clearly a totally acceptable non-expert mistake.
Case closed.
She is not supposed to make a living because people like you find it unseemly?
Whoa, Midnight; I don't give a shit if she supports herself by giving Eliot Spitzer milk baths, or takes up writing children's books.
My stated position is this: I don't think Palin would make a particularly good President.
I also expect her to get hammered mercilessly by all sides as a "Quitter!" if she decides to run.
Other than that, believe it or don't, I am essentially indifferent to her.
I don't think she would make a bad President. Would she be disapointing? Sure, but every politician is. I also take issue with the idea that you need to be some kind of super genius to be President. Bullshit. You just need to believe the right things and be able to convince a few people in the middle you are right and have some humility about what you actually can do. That doesn't require a 180 IQ. In fact the 180 IQ gets in the way of the humility part.
Palin would probably be a better President than Romney, Huckabee, Guilliani, Clinton, Obama, Gingrich or Huntsman or Perry. She woudln't be as good as Johnson or Rand Paul.
In short, yeah she probably wouldn't make a particularly good President. But she wouldn't make a particularly bad one. And sadly that puts her ahead of about 90% of our political class.
I don't think she would make a bad President.
All Presidents make bad Presidents.
none of them in my lifetime has ever understood their entire job consists of vetoing 90% of all legislation (maybe even 100%...if congress really wants that shit passed then build a super-majority big enough to it passed a Veto), keeping the US out of war and in the off chance that it is unavoidable to win the war as quickly as possible then getting the fuck out of any constraineus aftermath.
All Presidents make bad Presidents.
Exactly.Primum non nocere is about the best we could ever hope for.
I'm curious who all these people are who would make better Presidents than Palin.
So you've seen Who's Nailin Palin?
Wow- Montreal turned into a hell of a race. The most amazing thing is FOX stayed with it all the way to the end.
The problem with incif is that it doesn't protect me from my own curiosity.
I like Sarah Palin. She's so pretty.
hehe. Your name is sorta like "fart".
There's a movie reference there.
Sarah,
if you are listening, I just want you to know that I think you are so hot that I'd suck your ass for a diarrhea fart.
hehe. I wrote "fart".
Pretty much sure that if any honkee stops Jesus from taking at least eight, the MSM will go into full-on "400 More Years" it's-actually-worse-now-then-if-we-never-elected-a-black-guy-cause-middle-Amerikkka-just-got-even-horribler mode.
They will scream and foment tribalism till they see blood and then scream some more about how prophetic they were. Especially if Palin won. If Palin won they would NEED blood, scream like T2 when it knows the kill gig is up. Unfortunately, you really have to consider what these people might do. There are consequences to not giving them all the control over you that they need
YOU FOOLS! Stossel is talking about the money hole right now!
If you love America you put money in its hole.
How is your [w]hole.....family?

Yes, I too think denture repair is critical to understanding the responsibilities of the media.

yes, I can't agree more
So, reading the CNN and other comments, I have learned one thing: HOO-BOY, the Left if going to PISSED if Obama loses. Maybe not riots pissed, but some sound that bad.
What's the over/under on some blacks breaking a few store windows and setting fire to a few buildings when Obama loses?
And, yes, he will lose no matter whom the Rs nominate unless something major happens.
Mavericks win. Miami's tatooed douche bags lose.
Tatist! We're all tattooed.
Those guys really seem to make a lot of sense.

" When is this journalistic scrutiny going to be applied to politicians who wield actual power?"
Don't hold your breath when it comes to coverage of Obama. Not only were they not interested before the election in digging out anything that might be derogatory about him, they were actively enganged in trying to cover up anything that could be so. They weren't the least bit interested in examining his bullshit about setting in the Rev Wright's church for 20 years and never hearing any of the man's crazy stuff in all that time. Not interested in his relationship with the former weather undeground terrorist either,
And of course they've never paid any attention to any of his historically inaccurate statements such as claiming that Emporor Hirohito signed the Japanese surrender on the battlehsip Missouri. If Palin had said that exact same thing, they would have been braying about it for weeks,.
