IHOP Meets ObamaCare & The Result is a Rooty Tooty, Fresh & Frooty Clusterfuck
Here's a good video from the Heritage Foundation about the nuts and bolts of how ObamaCare's coverage mandates will likely affect the owner of 12 IHOPs in Indiana and Ohio. It's a slim-margin business to start with and layering on health-insurance costs like so much imitation syrup over a massive spread of tasteless yet popular and oversized hot cakes ain't gonna help.
You needn't agree with the video's vague-ish reforms to benefit from getting a real sense of how new laws complicate the dog-eat-dog world of everyday business.

This business owner is just a whiny bitch.
The solution is obvious. Pass a law that prevents him from firing any employees. Problem solved.
That's how it works in France.

Does your elitism know no bounds!?! Next you'll tell me TCBY isn't the country's best yogurt!
Would you believe Humphrey Yogart?
I prefer the Municipal House of Pancakes, unless it's a special occasion like a wedding anniversary, when I take the wife to the International House of Pancakes.
"how new laws complicate the dog-eat-dog world of everyday business."
But Obama recently told some business group (Chamber of Commerce?) "I get it". You know, I don't think he does. Its funny to think of Obama trying to manage 12 IHOPS. What a cluster that would be. Yet he's competent to head the executive branch of the federal government ?
Remember, to progressives like Obama making money is a bad thing. In Obama's world you go to work just to avoid sitting at home watching TV.
OBAMA VIOLATES THE CONSTITUTION WITH THIS WAR.

Oh no! If the IHOPs close, where will the trashy people go to have their brawls?
dennys.

There's no swearing in journalism.
Oh boo hoo! Business (and IHOP is a small business???) are in this limbo due to fighting single payer system which would have benefited them by taking the burden off business, providing preventive care and providing a base level of catastrophic care. Speaking of expense, how much does it cost your business due to injured and sick employees that can't work and can't afford a doctor? or worse come to work sick and infect your customer's food. I won't be eating at IHOP ever, you gross me out.
An IHOP franchise is a small business, yes.
Marti,
Scott, the Owner, has 12 IHOP restaurants with 1000 full and part time employees. Yes, this is a small business. Did you think he owned IHOP or something?
Did you also see the point that he is going to be forced to provide health insurance for ALL of his employees, which in no way whatsoever would "benefited them by taking the burden off business, providing preventive care and providing a base level of catastrophic care"? In fact it was a net loss of something like $3k per employee?
Speaking of expense, how much does it cost your business due to injured and sick employees that can't work and can't afford a doctor?
So everyone that works at IHOP can't afford "doctors"? What the hell does that even mean? Jesus what a terrible argument. Whether or not restaurant employees have bumper to bumper health insurance from the manager to the dishwasher they will always be restaurant employees. They will still occasionally sneeze influenza on your fresh and fruity rooty tooty one way or the other.
If your goal is to get health insurance and services provided at a lower cost to the lower and middle class, you should do the exact opposite of everything that's in Obamacare.

Oh, that's *right*, single-payer is paid for by money-shitting unicorns, not people or businesses. Great post, Marti!
