Battleground Idaho! Potato State latest to join collective bargaining brouhaha
A bill that would phase out tenure for new teachers and restrict collective bargaining on their salaries and benefits is on its way to the Idaho governor.
The GOP-backed measure cleared its final hurdle Tuesday in the state Legislature, where it passed the Idaho House on a 48-22 vote. Nine Republicans crossed party lines to oppose the bill.
The state's teachers union, the Idaho Education Association, says it would gut teacher rights. It plans to protest Wednesday.
Supporters say the plan will give more power to Idaho's locally elected school boards in labor relations issues. Opponents say it's a slap in the face to teachers and a mean-spirited move to dismantle their union.
Republican Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter has backed the education reforms.

Pay no attention to that potato state behind Montana.
They have teachers in Idaho?
And schools?
No. No!
Your mom goes to college.
There's that "mean-spirited" term again. Waaaaaaaahhhh!!!!
Waaaaaaaahhhh!!!!
That's the sound of victory!
I love the words "mean-spirited." Use them all the time: mean-spirited attack on taxpayers, mean-spirited attack on the productive members of society, mean-spirited attack on those who wish to give charity to their causes not yours..... I also like
"deniers" as in: individual rights deniers.
Most excellent.
Waiting for MNG to chime in decrying the use of "mean-spirited" by leftists, as he decries the assignment of evil intentions to leftists by libertarians.
C'mon, c'mon! Where are the freaking Morning Links?
Is it a libertarian holiday or somethings? The Feast of the Assumption of Friedman?
Walker negotiating against himself in Wisconsin
Is this another one of those 'police and firefighters exempted' bills?
With common sense exceptions for seniors, veterans, our troops, police, firefighters, defense contractors located in our districts, ....
You're a needy fellow.
By exempting all authority figures, it demonstrates their resolve for limited government.
I don't think firefighters are traditionally the strongly unionized bastions that teachers and cops are.
Often times outside of big cities the firefighters are volunteers. But I do agree that the police unions should be targeted in these bills as well (that is assuming Idaho has an out of control police pension system).
Apparently they have wells, with guards, in Idaho, too.
In the words of Stan Lee"Excelsior!"
Idaho is the new Libya!
Idaho's one state they can't fleebag.
Got a panicky email from my alma matar about being "targeted with extreme, severe and disproportionate cuts."
I only counted three misspellings and two incorrect economic assumptions.
Did the e-mail say "From your alma matar"?
Heehee.
I absolutely defend these public employees' right to join a union to bargain collectively. I also absolutely defend the public's prerogative to refuse to bargain with such an organization.
Funny how that freedom of association (to form a union) doesn't stretch to freedom of association (to not bargain with a union).
Fucking freedom, etc.
My work is done here.
Think of the Potatoes!
As the only state to the right of Wyoming I am wonder why the fuck Idaho even has bargaining rights in the first place.
Also anyone else wonder why Herbert named one of his characters Idaho.
Was he stating that the Dune universe was set in our future?
And if so where the fuck is Earth?
Is it one of the planets in the books?
Is Earth the planet Dune?
IIRC, yes, Dune is set in our far future. Arakis is not Earth.
You Idaho haters can go fuck your selves. Go Vandals.
GLOBAL WARMING DID IT!
