Glenn Reynolds Interviews Donald Rumsfeld
Glenn Instapundit Reynolds interviews former Bush Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld about his new book, Known and Unknown.
Whether you loved Rummy (OK, I see that one hand out there) or think he was the second coming of Robert McNamara (all right, put all your hands down already), this is well worth watching on PJTV.
Pre-9/11, Rummy looked to be run out of DC on a rail because he was calling for major changes to the way Pentagon had gotten used to doing things during the Cold War. That was promising, but in the wake of 9/11 he effectively switched sides, calling the war on terror a 21st-century version of the "twilight struggle" that defined the second half of the 20th century. Bad call. Really bad call.

This ought to make Jay’s head explode.
Louis CK interviewing Rummy on O&A was much better. Funny starts at 2 min 30 secs but the last 3 mins are the funniest.
In b4 “Glenn Reynolds is a neocon pro-torture warmonger hack”.
He is.
I saw his book on the shelf yesterday and reflexively laughed out loud In the store.
Hey, assholes are people too.
rummy’s best was designing & starting the transformation of the army fm heavy divisions sets to brigade sets for easier deployment which was opposed by entrenched army general staff.

Wow, Dumsfeld really is Dumb as the day is long isnt he?

I like how you mixed 4th grader Mad Magazine humor (“Dumsfeld”) with a cliche that an old guy on a porch in a Hollywood version of the rural South would use (“as the day is long”) here.
I fast-forwarded to the part where Glenn Reynolds started sucking Rumsfeld’s dick.

They don’t call me “Rumstud” for nothing.
Nobody’s perfect.
Bush thought that “principle of free people” is the natural state of man? It may be the preferable state of man but certainly not the natural state. I wonder where he got that idea.
where’d bush get the idea? probably the same place the iraqi nukes are.
Syria?
u know where else the iraqi nukes are?
Say what you want about Rumsfeld, but you have to give him props for treating the press and Congress with the contempt they so often deserve.
Somehow I feel like Rumsfeld’s mile-high pile of corpses outweighs my schadenfreude for the media.
“Somehow” is awfully euphemistic, yes?
What irks me is the reverential tone of he hosanahs given to him by the likes of Rush and Hannity regarding Rumsfeld’s “long and distinguished public service”.
Any lowly government stooge can elevate himself to a heroic patriot if he blows up enough furriners on the taxpayer’s dime.
Yes-he really should have been press secretary instead of SECDEF.
I’ll never forget how after 9/11, Rummy was so popular with lefties because he didn’t have all that so-con baggage and just spoke plainly. Boy did that wear off fast!
Glenn Reynolds, who never met a country he wasn’t in favor of bombing. He calls himself a libertarian. Yet, when I emailed him that Justin Raimondo (of aniti-war.com) was a libertarian, not a “lefty” as another Reynolds emailer labeled him, Reynolds said the Raimondo “calls” himself a libertarian. Regardless of your view on the current wars (four or five? I can’t keep count) Raimondo has more libertarianism in his finger than GR has in his brain.
Raimondo never met a dictator he didn’t like, so long as they kill Americans.
I was a liberal. I will only vote repub from here on out. The Dems are lying. They don’t give shit one about the middle class.
thanks
