Tunisia…Egypt…Wisconsin?
Thousands of protestors have been clogging the Wisconsin state capital building ahead of an attempt to vote on Gov. Scott Walker's budget plan. Local WISC-TV reporter Jessica Arp uses a pixelvision camera to show the action:
What are they all het up about? Walker's budget fix would slow the growth of benefits and restrict some collective bargaining powers for government workers. Taxpayer-funded workers are determined to protect these advantages.
Which is why this is merely an attempt to vote, not a vote. Taking a cue from the Texas state house, Wisconsin Senate Democrats have fled the scene, with some reportedly having left the state, in order to prevent the measure from coming to the floor.
The teachers union in a state whose public schools get solid C-minus grades in state-by-state rankings have decided to take a break from failing to teach children and bring busloads of Ms. Krabappels up to Madison as well. At least 15 school districts around the state reportedly cancelled classes today as teachers declined to show up.
Wisconsin's budget standoff is drawing national attention, and like so many states where demands for increasing public largesse and special privileges for government employees are getting louder, the Badger State is out of money. Before taking office, Walker, a Republican, was told by his Democratic predecessor Jim Doyle that without spending cuts beyond what Walker has proposed, the deficit could go from $2.2 billion to $3.3 billion.
Inevitable on-the-one-hand-this-on-the-other-hand-that editorial.

Ya, flyover country got some recognition!
This is surprising. “Wisconsin” is a state? I thought there were only two states–California and New York.
Fuck You
oops, meant that to “hmm”
It’s also OK if you say it to California and New York, the Important States?.*
*Based upon a review of reason.com articles over the past three years.
Is this supposed to be insulting?
why are you even here? comments like that are unnecessary, don’t add anything to the discussion and in fact show how little culture and tolerance you have… even if your are joking. go to NY and CA for worse budget problems and more corruption, dick.
I’d love to see a Reaganesque deadline. Show up to work tomorrow and all weekend to make up for your not being there two days, or be fired.
I wouldn’t even give them the chance. Fire all of them, goodbye pensions, hope all you fucks saved on your own, but you’re no longer the state’s problem. Take a hike.
Rumor has it the superintendent (I guess for the state?) is demanding notes and proof for all sick absentees.
Looks like it’s time for the school district to learn to scrap data of social networks. I’m betting you could fire half that way.
Looks like it’s time for the school district to learn to scrap data of social networks.
Oh, it’s way too late for that.
If they have school issued laptops, they can’t.
Do you know exactly how scrapping data of SN works? Cause it’s lookin like you don’t.
Now, I do. Praise Google. I retract my previous statement. I just figured that school issued stuff might have software to prevent that.
Fire all of these motherfuckers. Every single one of them. There would be more than enough people willing to take those jobs.

Well, John. You got your wish!
And I’m with you hmmm, I hope Walker channels a little Reagan. Walker has displayed brass balls so far.
And fuck the shitbag democrats for running out…shitweasels.
If the TEAM BLUE scum running away isn’t a neon sign that they’re completely owned by the union, I don’t know what is.
I hope we are witnessing the start of another movement, and I hope it sticks and leads to a domino effect and causing states and even local municipalities to review their own contracts.
I have cautious optimism.
Apparently, some of them hid out in a “Hooters” type bar called the Tilted Kilt-so there were other incentives besides serving their union masters.
On, Wisconsin!
dude…I am in CO and my best friend just got married in formal sweats…never knew there were such things but there ya go.
I don’t think that’s true. We do get married in these though: http://www.packertime.com/prodsphp/ptte23.php

Don’t know where the grooms are supposed to go.
You think the “seat of government” deserves to be kissed?
I’ve been saying for years around here that until we see thousands of government employees protesting in the streets, none of our problems are really being properly addressed…
…and it’s absolutely freaking wonderful to see that somebody somewhere is actually addressing the source of so many of our problems!
Finally.
Hope it spreads like wildfire. I hope to see thousands of unionized government employees clogging the streets of every state capitol in America.
Wish we had a governor like that in California!
Scott Walker for President!
Where can I send my donation?
Send to me & I’ll make sure it gets to the right people.
Where are the riot cops when we really need them? It would be a pleasure to see two groups of statist thugs battling each other.
That would just generate sympathy for the bad guys!
Right now they’re staging a pep rally, but instead of it generating the sympathy and support they want, it’s only generating even more disgust! Total backfire.
This is the best possible outcome!
The longer they delay? The more disgusted the rest of the state and the rest of the country will become with the lot of them.
I hope they all lose their jobs for this. This could be like Reagan firing the traffic controllers all over again.
You never saw people more perplexed than a union of traffic controllers thinking they would get the public’s support for striking–only to have it blow up in their faces.
Let them protest. Let them sit on the asses. The longer they wait, the less people will feel sorry for them.
When the NYC MTA workers went on strike a number of years ago, there was a fair amount of public support for them. But as the days wore on, and the transit was horrible, and more details came out about their already sweetheart contracts, their support went directly into the shitter. They caved soon after that.
I can’t believe that won’t happen here.
The demands are pretty meager too.
My understanding is that a big chunk of what they’re protesting in the new law–is putting a cap on future benefits increases to CPI!
They think the people are gonna get behind the union on that?
I can’t get behind that!
Also having to pay at least 50% into their pensions (I know public employees in Austin pay all into their pensions so it’s weird to think about public servants not having to do that). And paying a slightly higher premium on their health insurance (which doesn’t begin to reach what private workers pay).
Oh, you meanhearted bastard!
Why join the race to the bottom?
If it wasn’t for the unions, we’d all be working in sweatshops!
Don’t you want to help build the bridge to the 22nd Century?!
; )
zoltan,
In Wisconsin, the taxpayers pay the state contribution to the pension AND the employee contribution to the pension. Some idiots in the past thought it was a good idea to keep calling it the employee contribution except no one contributes except taxpayers.
Re the video: WTF?
Apparently police and fire are in the crowd and supporting the teachers union.
Whatta shocker! I’m stymied…
Not the heros!!!
My new political hero, Chris Christie, got this ball rolling and led the way for the entire country. For the first time in my life, politicians are truly standing up for taxpayers and reminding these public employee union thugs that they work us, not the other way around. And it’s about damn time.
Run, Christie, run.
If he runs he’ll have a heart attack, you sick fuck. Walk, Christie, walk! And drop that chalupa!
That guy needs a heavy dose of Primal Blueprint.

Is it because the state congress needs a certain number of votes to call a vote, and the Democrats leaving puts them below that number?
There was a movie called Amazing Grace a few years ago about Parliament abolishing slavery in England. I’m not sure how much of it was really true, but they showed a part where the pro-abolition side called a hurry-up offense and voted to abolish or something, and the anti-abolish side was left scrambling to find people to vote no.
Can the Wisconsin taxpayers fire their elected representatives for bailing on important work?
Think they need just one Democrat.
Before the vote is binding.
Can’t one of the Republicans just flip parties? Anybody know what makes you a “Democrat” in WI?
We already had that in New York, with hilarious results.
And the asshole press were in the tank for the Democratic establishment, calling the events a “coup”.
Can the Wisconsin taxpayers fire their elected representatives for bailing on important work?
Can they? Just watch!
Is it because the state congress needs a certain number of votes to call a vote, and the Democrats leaving puts them below that number?
Yes, and also requires a member of an opposing party, even just one.
Can the Wisconsin taxpayers fire their elected representatives for bailing on important work?
Yes, they can be recalled for this.
So there is official recognition of political parties?
Hmm, I wonder how independents would work in that scenario.
One of the Republicans should switch to LP, heh heh heh.
You must mean the Labor Party cuz we all know that no self respecting elephant would go [bleh] Libertarian.
Doesn’t the bill being voted on, and being protested, have something like 70% approval statewide?
They just don’t understand what’s in the bill yet! After we defeat it, we’ll tell them what was so bad about it!
/Democrat
Apparently I’ve been living in Nazi states all these years, as neither North Carolina nor Virginia allow collective bargaining by any public employees.
48 states (and DC) to go.
Unfortunately, that still doesn’t prevent the municipalities from giving away everything in a gift-wrapped box.
Most teachers I know view themselves as gods.
Most students have a differing opinion.
You owe me. I do have a Mickey Mouse Master Degree after all.
HA!
MNG says you need a Pluto DOCTORATE to be acceptable in polite company!
I kind of noticed that too when coming up through the grades.
My in-laws are all teachers. They detest the unions, but don’t complain about the pay and summers off. To be fair my father-in-law proved his love of just teaching by going to teach for significantly less money, after he retired, for a parochial school.
my father-in-law proved his love of just teaching by going to teach for significantly less money, after he retired, for a parochial school
For less money? You mean he didn’t get to retire and then take another job paying just as well? Craaaazzzzzyyy.
I have a good friend who is a history teacher in public high school. He’s anti-public education, anti-union, etc.
I have another good friend who is a crazed, pro-union, pro-public, pro-Obama teacher. Which just goes to show that people can be crazy and still be tolerated for other reasons as friends.
And with the shit economy and unemployment as high as it is, people who seriously want to work will be lined up around the city three times to apply for their jobs.
The sad thing is the applicants won’t be “qualified” if they don’t have education degrees.
The happy thing is that “qualifications” are changing.
I’m not sure if any state requires a degree in education. However, most states require at least a bachelor’s degree and a teaching certification (usually an 18-month course).
I bet when asked, most of these teachers would say the kids are their first priority. For once in my life, I’d love to hear a reporter ask “then why are you here, instead of teaching them?”
I thought the majority was always right? I’m so confused.
I would love Tony to explain this concept; I am also flummoxed.
More Capital Blonde Doppelbock for everyone!
By the way, 58% of Wisconsin’s voters voted for Obama.
I bet this isn’t helping the Democrats’ cause with Wisconsin voters in the least.
Why would any non-union swing voter in Wisconsin vote for a Democrat after this?
Let me be clear.
My Administration will always stand side-by-side with our traditional ally in the Middle, um, Midwest.
Very nice.
It’s great to see these battles finally happening. And you will see more of them. Often overlooked about the last election is that more state governments are in the hands of Republicans since the 1920’s or 30’s.
Too bad it takes state financial crises for this to happen. But right now the public sector’s main point is that the private sector needs to sacrifice more so the public sector can keep getting higher pay and better benefits. That’s going over like a fart in chuch.
That’s fine if you bastards want to fire all these teachers.
I’ll just put them to work buildin my high speed rail, bitches!
Not in Florida, you won’t.
The emperor has no clothes!
…or the union and their emperor.
Whatever! You know know what I mean…
Clothesless!
I’m enjoying the absence of a bullet train right now.
There’s a lot of good stuff happening everywhere.
Maybe we’re just getting back to normal after 9/11 and financial bailouts, etc.–we had nothing but bad news for so long, it seems like lots of good things are happening now.
Maybe the worm’s finally turned.
Union clampdown in Wisconsin?
Check.
Florida turns down federal money?
Check.
Federal Judge rules against insurance mandate?
Check.
Maybe we’re starting to wake up from our ten year national nightmare.
I doubt it, but it would be awesome, even if only partially true.
Urban Californians get a clue… damn, not yet.
“”I’m enjoying the absence of a bullet train right now.””
I don’t enjoy the presence of the one I have.
Sorry, dude. I’ll try to create such an emptiness in bullet trains here in Florida that the resulting vacuum will suck yours into the void.
Hold yer horses. As happy as I was to hear that Scott turned down the Fed Rail money in FL, now all the other brainless hacks are clamoring for ways to end-run around his decision and swindle more tax dollars for a project that has no possible chance of coming out as promised.
Have any of these people ever seen a govt project come in UNDER budget?
I think Scott will win this fight.
I did once. The City of Houston figured it cost them some big number ($1M/day maybe?) to close the elevated section of I-45 for repair. So they wrote that number into the contract. Every day before the agreed upon date == $1M more for the contractor. Every day after == $1M less for the contractor. Project was done 2 or 3 weeks early.
Hmm, I guess that isn’t technically under budget, but it was on budget and early, so I count it.
I lived in Houston when that construction project happened… I have never seen massive road construction happen so quickly
Saw it here in Dallas with the “High Five” I-635, Hwy-75 mix master. Same deal. Contractors complete early x days ahead = x days bonus. Complete x days behind = x days reduction. The project was scheduled to last from mid 2002 to Apr 2007. The project was completed in Dec ’05.
Old merger. New merger.

Those who can’t teach, do!

Don’t you remember what you said, beeatch?
See, folks, people like me aren’t the problem–people earning billions every year, the REAL problem is teachers and prison guards that make $30,000/year!
They brought the economy down! Why should they get a pension when all you get is a shitty 401 (k)?
They caused the crisis, them and poor nigg–er, people who bought houses!
Suckers….heh…
C-. Fucking grade inflation.
You are generous.
“C-. Fucking grade inflation.”

You’re right…starting salary for teachers in WI is actually $25k:
http://teacherportal.com/teacher-salaries-by-state
Why, they’re making out like bandits! I know when I think “striking it rich”, I think “public school teacher”!
YELLOW PERIL!!!
The Hmong this time?
The problem is not the starting pay, it is the pension payouts and bennies at the end of service, which is grossly inflated.
Yup, every boy who dreams of being rich does it by becoming…a high school teacher. Yup, they sure do.
But its for the children…right?
No, of course not. , people choose to go teach at Madison Public Schools so they can live the high life!
No, but they might do it for the secure life of a steady paycheck with no expectations nor recourse for a job poorly done.
Does Madison have a Chinatown?
And bail on their kids on a school day so they can go protest. Yes, it’s all for the children with the teachers.
Dude, you just don’t get it do you? Pensions and health benefit compensation have soared and is bankrupting the state. The money just isn’t there. Let me repeat. The money isn’t there.
And on top of that, the reforms are only modest reforms to restrain union power and restore some individual freedom – so that the state can’t just take union dues out of somebody’s paycheck and the union has to recertify annually by an actual majority vote.
What would be fair? $10/hour like some greeter at Wal-Mart and throw them on Medicaid?
Whatever the market bears would be a nice starting place. Good teachers would, of course, command higher salaries. I’d imagine, given the low standards we have for teachers in general today, that the entry-level teaching position wouldn’t pay all that well in a private system. But that’s true of most jobs right out of college.
Begone troll. You argue in bad faith. And yes, some of those Wal-Mart greeters may actually make better teachers than the condescending elitists egalitarians currently disseminating what laughably passes for education in government school.
And how the fuck do you know what it takes to be a teacher?
How bout I tell you any idiot could do your job better than you even though I don’t know the first thing about it?
Yes, do tell…this should be quite illuminating.

“And how the fuck do you know what it takes to be a teacher?”
How the fuck did you get so ignorant?
And how the fuck do you know what it takes to be a teacher?
I have a teaching certificate, and used to teach, before I realized I would rather enter the private sphere where I could get paid based on merit rather than seniority. Teaching is an easy job, short hours, easy work, lots of days off, and only 10 months a year. Most of the people who go into teaching are at or near the bottom of their class in their college major.
I used to substitute teach in between a job or two before law school. And I was an A student from K through 12 and had some observations as a consumer of education. Not to mention my experience as a parent of students.
Education is a bullshit, pussy major. Even my teacher friends generally think so, believing that most good teachers get degrees in the subjects in which they purport to be expert in.
Are you serious? Practically everyone in the U.S. has been exposed to public school teachers.
The Truth|2.17.11 @ 5:25PM|#
“What would be fair? $10/hour like some greeter at Wal-Mart and throw them on Medicaid?”
For economic ignoramuses such as da troof, here’s how it works:
As an employer, you offer the lowest wage required to fill the position with qualified people. If that number is $5/hour, so what?
Most employers thereafter reward good work with higher pay/benes to retain those workers; the teachers’ unions forbid such rewards.
The Truth|2.17.11 @ 5:39PM|#
“If that number is $5/hour, so what?
“Let them eat Ramen!”
I’d be happy to cut your pay. From your lack of any sense, $1.25 seems about right.
I ate ramen noodles and rice with nothing to go with it for part of my time in law school, which was the poorest lifestyle I ever experienced. Poverty sucks, even when you know it’s going to end at some point.
We should just set the minimum wage at $80k per year.
Why not an hour? Then we could all live like rock stars!
Maybe if they worked more than 9 months a year, they would make more money. Shit, my first job didn’t pay me $25k every 9 months.
Overpaid.
Public school teachers should live in barracks, eat at a government cafeteria and get a monthly stipend for clothing.
A monthly clothing allowance? Screw that! In the Army we got our clothing allowance annually, and it wasn’t even enough to cover a new set of uniforms.
How snowed to you have to be to think that libertarians think what they think because of somebody’s donations?
I’d guess you need like some kind deprogramming or something to even see why that’s absurd…
I wouldn’t think government employee union leeches, who don’t even generate their own revenue stream with their work, but just parasite off the productive work of private citizens…? I wouldn’t think they were bankrupting our states if it wasn’t for the donations of somebody I never met?
You should ask somebody you know in real life who disagrees with you to look at what you write and ask them if it makes any sense to them.
Just for your own good.
Yes, public school teachers and firefighters? Sanitation workers? Parasites!
The REAL producers are oil futures day traders and people who sell credit default swaps in the Hallowed Private Sector, right? They do so much more for us!
?BUCKETS! I’M BUCKETS!
SPLOOGE?
“The REAL producers are oil futures day traders and people who sell credit default swaps in the Hallowed Private Sector, right? They do so much more for us!”
Is that who you think is paying for the State of Wisconsin’s bloated benefit packages?!
Are you even paying attention to what you write?
Who do you think paid for the Wall St. bailouts?
Meanwhile, you get upset about fucking SCHOOL TEACHERS two years after Wall St. bended you over the table and fucked you up the ass with a chainsaw, and got away with it.
“Who do you think paid for the Wall St. bailouts?”
What do you mean who paid for them?!
Who is still paying for them? The money for the bailouts is still coming out of our paychecks!
The debt hasn’t been retired. There was no $700 billion tax cut. The money was paid back to the general fund–and spent by the government. …and they’re still taking the money for it out of our paychecks!
Every working person in the country. That’s where the money is coming from…
…and what does any of that have to do with the government employees of the State of Wisconsin robbing Wisconsin’s working people wholesale?!
Where’s the outrage over Wall St.? Over BILlIONAIRES, not middle class professionals trying to make ends meet, but BILLIONAIRES stealing our tax money after running their companies into the ground?
Where’s the campaign against THEM?

It’s fortunate that infantile envy is limited to jackasses such as you and not too many more.
Go make a sign and parade on Wall Street; I’ll be happy to lead the laughter.
“Infantile envy”?
What do you call your whining about how teachers actually still have pensions, and you don’t, so you want them to get fucked over just like private sector workers have been for the past 30 years?
The Truth|2.17.11 @ 5:40PM|#
“Infantile envy”?
INFANTILE ENVY
Is that easier to read, jackass?
Why do you think private sector workers should continue to get ass-raped so government workers can continue to enjoy compensation and benefits far in excess of what they get themselves? Fuck off, Tony.
What do you call your whining about how teachers actually still have pensions, and you don’t, so you want them to get fucked over just like private sector workers have been for the past 30 years?
Facing the reality that we’ve all been living beyond our means, and fixing the problem?
So long as favored recipients of our largess are not affected in any way ever.
You have either not paid attention to the howls over TARP on this site, or you’re just a liar.
I’d call it a pick ’em on that line.
“Where’s the outrage over Wall St.? Over BILlIONAIRES, not middle class professionals trying to make ends meet, but BILLIONAIRES stealing our tax money after running their companies into the ground?
Where’s the campaign against THEM?”
It’s called the Tea Party, and that boat’s already sailed.
It, ironically, started with a report by Rick Santelli from the pit at the Chicago Board of Trade, right across from where they trade the oil futures…
I meant “ironic” as in unexpected, but considering that none of this has anything to do with Wisconsin’s government employee unions gouging the working people of Wisconsin, it really shouldn’t be unexpected to find that you were doing a lot of hand-waving way back then too!
I mean, is this still on topic?! I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt!
…’cause if you’re suggesting that Barack Obama and George Bush gouging the working people of America to bail out Wall Street somehow justifies the public employee unions in Wisconsin gouging the working people of Wisconsin now?
Then you’re really gonna get laughed at around here. …and it won’t have anything to do with any donations the Koch Brothers may have made.
…it’ll be all about you.
They’d be the first I’d cut off, and shame on any politician subsidizing them. Why the hell do you think the Tea Party got started? In response to TARP, the Stimulus and the moral hazard of subsidizing the irresponsible.
Do you not get that the economically powerful become more powerful because they are intertwined with powerful government?
Also, why private school teachers should pay for the pensions of public school teachers when they won’t get any on their own? Why should small businesses pay for “stimulus” to their competitors?
No, the teabagger movement was started when a rich Wall St. trader started ranting about “subsidizing loser homeowners” on CNBC. Yeah, those loser parasite homeowners, how dare they!
Yeah, those loser parasite homeowners, how dare they!
Good point, of course people should be allowed to keep houses they haven’t paid for when they fail to pay back the money that was loaned to them with the house as collateral. Free houses for everyone! Paid for with unicorn farts!
“Good point, of course people should be allowed to keep houses they haven’t paid for when they fail to pay back the money that was loaned to them with the house as collateral. Free houses for everyone! Paid for with unicorn farts!”
Yes, but you’re missing the point about how those unicorns somehow justify public employee unions in Wisconsin screwing working people!
That’s how it goes, right? “Truth” of “David Koch” or whoever you are?
“No, the teabagger movement was started when a rich Wall St. trader started ranting about “subsidizing loser homeowners” on CNBC. Yeah, those loser parasite homeowners, how dare they!”
Right, so, your homophobia aside, now you’re suggesting that the movement that sprang up in opposition to bailing out Wall Street was bad–because it was in support of Wall Street?
Your logic is a twisted series of bullet points that lead nowhere. You read this crap somewhere, but you didn’t understand what you were reading. You make your misguided cause look worse when you explain it to people…
So, please, by all means–tell everyone what you know!
Protip: “loser homeowners” don’t actually own anything except for a bunch of debt.
“Where’s the outrage over Wall St.?”
Not to needlessly engage Carl Williams here but this site pretty much universally screamed ‘bloody murder’ during the bailouts.
“Where’s the outrage over Wall St.?… Where’s the campaign against THEM?”
Unlike the unions, they were smart enough to split the loot with both parties.
It’s here, asshole.
I am campaigning against them in a shakedown attempt to get them to fund my campaign against the taxpayers.
Dude, they’re all crooks – the public sector unions AND Wall Street. They both bribe politicians who then steal from taxpayers.
“The REAL producers are oil futures day traders and people who sell credit default swaps in the Hallowed Private Sector, right? They do so much more for us!”
What do oil futures day traders have to do with any of this?
You think the government employees of Wisconsin are justified in shutting down the capitol because the governor wants to tie their future benefits increase to the CPI index–because of oil futures day traders?!
Did the State of Wisconsin propose killing a heretofore unknown capital gains tax on oil futures day traders that no one’s ever heard of before?!
…or are you just being a buffoon?
The fact that you think the best representatives of the private sector are oil futures traders says a lot about your relationship with reality.
Yeah, started reading this story on Boing Boing and one of the commentors is blaming the budget deficits on REAGAN and trickle down economics.
Christ.
Making money is only good if you’ve got a bleeding heart.
Just for the record?
Tax receipts to the government probably would go up if we cut marginal tax rates across the board right now.
No… no… no, making a profit is NEVER any good unless you give 105% of everything to the liberals/progressives. They are the only ones smart enough to now how to turn that 105% into 230%, using Keynesian magic, so that the family barely above poverty level can afford a McMansion.
Firemen would be better paid by the insurance companies or be volunteers.
I have 3 different companies competing to give me business to collect my garbage.
Parents should pay teachers, not society at large.
So yes if they are government employees they are parasites.
Yes, public school teachers and firefighters? Sanitation workers? Parasites!
Public employee unions should not exist because they are paid through force. That state uses force on the people to pay public employees. When they have a union, the union pressures or bribes (sorry, offers generous campaign contributions to) politicians into raising their pay. So it’s a cycle of intimidation and violence. The people don’t have a choice whether to pay the taxes or not. It’s not like private sector unions at all.
I might be more accepting of public education if it didn’t seem like a bottomless hole for lots and lots of money–without any improvement in the quality of education, which just about everyone agrees on–and if teachers weren’t so heavily involved in politics. It makes it hard when a lobby is so embedded in a political party.
Education can and should be privatized. By taking government out of education, many problems with the system would be quickly resolved. Even if that meant subsidizing tuition, which doesn’t seem to work so well at the college level, it would beat the current situation.
I guess since they’re all parasites, it won’t matter if all those teachers, firefighters, sanitation workers, bus drivers, etc., etc., decided to go on strike right?
They don’t produce anything, after all!
Well, could they be replaced? That’s the real measure of their importance, isn’t it?
Tell us what you do, Oh Producing Galtian Demigod?
I oppress the workers for a living. Oh, and consumers.
I’m pretty sure we could get somebody to replace you and do it more cheaply if you ever went on strike.
I’m gonna guess computer programmer? Since you’re libertarian and all.
This situation in Wisconsin is driving the union stooges out of their fucking minds. It’s all just so delicious. I’m in heaven right now.
What do you do for a living Episiarch?
What do you do for a living Episiarch?
Laugh at dipshits like you all fucking day.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Computer programming pencil-necked geek.
You’re also a straight white male and didn’t lose your virginity until you were in your 30s, and your last girlfriend left you for a UAW worker.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Oh my god this is so much fucking fun.
The Truth|2.17.11 @ 5:30PM|#
“I’m pretty sure we could get somebody to replace you and do it more cheaply if you ever went on strike.”
I’m pretty sure you’re a lying jackass who doesn’t have a clue.
Let’s cut to the chase here. As a computer programmer, I have replaced Indian programmers who were willing to do the job for less. I live in the same time zone, and can arrive at an occasional meeting in person. All of this despite the fact that I work remotely and don’t have an office.
Now, would you like to school me on the economics of my profession, or do you want to explain why the manufacturing company I used to work for didn’t ship its production line overseas?
How about an Indian on an H1-B1?
When he replaces you for half your salary, can I smugly lecture you on the “free market”?
I won’t accept The Truth unless it starts posting in all caps. All caps is the only ‘fact check’ I need.
I’ve worked with dozens of Indians on H-1 B-1s. I know you don’t get the economics of it, but there it is.
Why do you hate Indians, you racist teabagger?
Pro Lib is a Wiccan priestess, and is therefore irreplaceable.
Show a little respect,dude.
Huh, I always though ProL was a gentleman of leisure.
You’re all wrong. He splits his time between a secret moon base and another base hidden inside a hollowed out volcano. …somewhere in Indonesia or the Philippines.
Didn’t mean to be evasive: I’m an in-house counsel. I’m paid reasonably well, so I must have some value in the marketplace.
Though I must say that I like the career choices assigned to me above. Secret moonbase is awesome, but gentleman of leisure is also appealing.
Say, what’s the deal with ripping on programmers? Given that most of the boom times in the last thirty years have been related to advances in computing–either the inventory revolution of the late 80s/early 90s or the Internet boom–I rather think that computer programmers are a valuable asset.
Do you just hate all forms of productivity?
Say, what’s the deal with ripping on programmers?
Brain envy.
What this reveals about himself is quite interesting.
You’re also a straight white male and didn’t lose your virginity until you were in your 30s, and your last girlfriend left you for a UAW worker.
Someone with so little control over their lives they think getting laid is actually a big deal. They put so much of their emotional validation and self worth into not being rejected by at least one woman out there, it turns guys like this into psychotics.
Dude, everybody gets laid. I’m ugly as home made sin, can last about twelve minutes before I prematurely cum, and I’m going to get the juice squeezed out of my balls by a willing female accomplish at the end of this night. Nobody really has a problem accept agoraphobics. It’s a biological imperative for fucks sakes. If you are having trouble, Mt Troof, just go out there and buy some coke and you’ll have a cutie bending her bum over for you in no time. Just stop jumping out of the bushes on top of them for that weak ass dry humping sexual assault action, like you were a mere Kennedy instead of a man, okay?
I’d guess envy. Computer programming has led to a lot of young people making a lot of money in the last 20 years.
Instead of having to claw their way up through the ranks of old established businesses, a new field opened up and a lot of smart people rode it to a good lifestyle at a very young age.
Worse of all, programming is still pretty much a meritocracy. If you are a good programmer you can pretty much get a job anywhere you want for a pretty good chunk of money. Doesn’t matter if other people are more senior to you, if you can knock out good code on deadline, you will be promoted. And I can’t think of anyone in the field who would ever voluntarily join a union.
I think the Troof is mad because his classmates in high school all went on to make lots of money writing code while someone of his shining talents is still stuck living in a basement.
I remember they tried to unionize programmers in Silicon Valley back in the ’90s.
It was a joke.
It fell apart before it even started.
Sure, as long as all the strikers could fired and replaced with people who would perform honest, quality work at a fair price.
Don’t you see the inherent problem with public sector unions? Don’t you see the sheer lunacy of allowing police, firefighters or perhaps even soldiers to form unions and threaten to strike? Or perhaps the prospect of anarchy is just fine with you.
“See, folks, people like me aren’t the problem–people earning billions every year, the REAL problem is teachers and prison guards that make $30,000/year!”
Yes, I think the state of Wisconsin should stop paying David Koch billions of dollars before it stops paying teachers.
like so many states where demands for increasing public largesse and special privileges for government employees are getting louder, the Badger State is out of money.
I think it was you, Tim, that said in the current print issue: they know that the apple only has so many bites.
I stand in solidarity with Wisconsin teachers and union workers. Down with our corporate overlords and political enablers!?

I’M FAPPING AS HARD AS I CAN
Keep trying.
You’re changing lots of mind over here.
That sounds perfect, union troll.
Is there a troll union? Does that explain the lack of old-world handcrafted trolling around here lately?
Handcrafted trolling is a lost art, I fear.
I blame the Chinese.
We’re here. We show up to post in the morning and then disappear until quitting time.
Fuckin’ Mexican trolls took our jobs.
We need to build a giant firewall between here and Mexico.
That’s why the best trolls leave…they don’t have seniority over our long-standing awful ones and can’t advance!
I wish we could do something about it, but the paperwork involved in firing a sub-par troll is un-fucking-believable.
Dammit, why can’t we have merit-based trolling? Why?
OPERATION BARBAROSSA
THRUMP & HILLARY OPERATION BARBAROSSA/Red Hair- Who’s on the Menu
[Look who’s coming to dinner]
Now it seems as if both future Presidential Candidate, to the Oval Office of the American-Israeli Military Industrial Complex [SOS] Secretary of State Hillary Diane Rodham-Clinton and Donald Thrump, are in different parties politically but share common views when it comes to their views on the [BRICS] Brazil, The Russian Federation, India, [PDRC] the Peoples Democratic Republic of China and The Republic of South Africa, [Spheres of Influence] of the [21st] Century and that is NEGATIVE. Both appear to be on board and support a [Operation Barbarossa/Operation Red Hair] offensive against in particular the [C] of the [BRICS] the [PDRC]. And the idea of the President of the [CCP] Chinese Communist Party Hu Jintao having a state dinner in the White House on Jan. 19th, is one of those dinner invitations that should be cancelled if either Donald or Hillary had a say in things, with both unapologetically bashing China, if Donald or Hillary had their way the poor guy would need a food tester to try his plate before he ate it, and sitting across from either would be like looking into the face of a ravenous wolf ugly, sulky, ill-appeased, and one never dances or sits down to the table with a hungry werewolf you may be on the dance card as the main menu.
[D&H vs Hu Views]
Now what are the views of [D&H] Donald and Hillary Vs Hu;
[D&H]: China is manipulating their currency, with its predatory trade policies, neo-mercantilism, and undervalued currency, hurting the American-Israeli economy and contributing to its high unemployment.
[HU]: China hold over [1T] One Trillion in [U.S.] Treasury notes, [1st] among the top [3] three nations hold debts made by the Military Industrial Complex followed by Japan and Israel, as that Complex engages in one after another [QE’s] Quantitive Easing, making it the largest debtor nation on the face of the planet with a [14T] Fourteen Trillion Dollar debt and growing bring into question the real value of its currency, as DR. RON PAUL is calling for an audit of the Federal Reserve to find out just what that value really is. This is more about the manipulating of the [USD] United States Dollar in an effort to devalue the dollar an increase the value of Chinese currency, a backdoor trade protectionism. When the true fact is that a sudden an dramatic revaluation of the Chinese Currency would not only destabilize China but send a ripple effect thru all the world currency and would be a disaster for the Global Economy.
[D&H] Chinese products should face a stiff import tax until such time as the trade imbalance is corrected as the Chinese are making hundreds of Billion
[HU]: That is nothing but nonsense, the Clintons, and the [NYSE] New York Stock Exchange are responsible for your own mess, it was the Clintons who passed [NAFTA] the North American Free Trade Agreement shipping shop out of the American-Israeli Military Industrial Complex into the countries of the [BRICS], where they could profit from hard work ethics of our [Spheres of Economic] labors. The [NYSE] and the Military Industrial Complex have and are reaping huge profits at the cost of their own peoples. It is not the [BRICS] who are guilty of Tyranny of the Bottom Line, but the American-Israeli Military Industrial Complex who have created the perfect storm of Political, [NYSE], and Military Industrial Complex Tyranny, it has been the [BRICS] that took the scraps from off the dinner table and created a stew, and now you want the [BRICS] to straighten out your mess, before we sit down to dinner, maybe you should go to bed hungry.
[D&H]: The [DPRK] The Democratic Peoples of Korea [North Korea] should have the [PDRC] put the screws to them and get them into line for saber rattling, and uranium enrichment program, pursuing nuclear weapons, the suspected sinking of a [ROK] Republic of Korea warship, and the shelling of Yeonpyeong Island by simply making a telephone call.
[HU]: And we see that such a phone call was never made during the Kennedy Administration to an Island nation just [145km] One hundred forty five kilometers off of Florida, named Cuba and the missiles of October, and how has that worked out so far after how many year of your embargo against that country, and now your faced with the end of your control of the entire Western Hemisphere, as the [B] of the Brazil [BRICS] is with the support of the other members of the [BRICS] exerts its power within your sole ownership territorial claim. China has called for the resumption of multilateral negotiations and dialogue of [6] Six party talks to resolve the issues in the region which of course the American-Israeli Military Industrial Complex has refused in favor of Gun-Boat Diplomacy, harsh rhetoric, threats, and high-profile military Gun-Boat Diplomacy military exercises, which only serve to increase tension within the region which once again only profit the American-Israeli Military Industrial Complex drum beats of war, providing reasons for increased military spending driving higher and high debt, which would you prefer Cuba or the [DPRK] as your neighbor, and how long would it take for a nuclear armed Cuba to hit major targets in your country?
[D&H]: The [ROK] Republic of Korea should just as the Empire of Japan be paying a host nation support fee, [Extortion Budget], for their occupation by forces of the American-Israeli Military Industrial Complex, for protection against the [DPRK] belligerent behavior, an unless such a fee is fort coming then why should we protect them, they are yet another Asia country making Billions of [USD] yearly from one-sided trade agreements, and should be paying for protection provided by the American-Israeli Military Industrial Complex.
[HU]: Your own DR. RON PAUL has stated to Russia Today that in fact the occupation forces of American-Israeli Military Industrial Complex should have been removed from the Korean Peninsula decades ago and that the two parties would have resolved their problems without the interference by the American-Israeli Military Industrial Complex long ago. But it is again to the benefit of the Military Industrial Complex to keep the pot boiling Korea is their [Trip-Wire], Okinawa which does pay a National Support Extortion Fee, for it’s unwanted forced occupation and use as a depot for illegal nuclear weapons of the unwanted occupation forces, serves as your [Foothold Far-East], an occupation that even Rep. Barney Franks of the American-Israeli Military Industrial Complex has stated needs to end, not to mention your [Lynch-Pin] illegal support of the Nationalist Chinese Island of Taiwan, territory of the [PDRC].
[To be continued]
The list is long on the continued interference by the American-Israeli Military Industrial Complex into the [BRICS] Global Spheres of Influence, and in particular the [C] of the [BRICS] the discussion is long and needs to be addressed, and the interference stopped.

So, does the Kock spoof turn into HERC, or is it the other way around?
I’ve never bothered to reach much of this joker’s stuff, but whatever it is, I assume it’s somebody who’s trying to make whatever it is he’s selling look stupid.
Because if I wanted to discredit some conspiracy theory or something, I’d go around and make stupid, super long posts to make progenitors of that theory look stupid.
And boy, does everything he say look stupid!
… You can’t seriously expect me to read all that. Pass.
Who is more insane, Herc or Truth?
I think Hercule doesn’t necessarily want to become a slave to a totalitarian, Mao-like overlord, so he may be deemed less insane on that basis.
The only thing that matters about this law is that it gratuitously exempts the police unions while hitting almost everybody else’s unions in the public sector.
It is a disgusting sop to Police Elitism, and it pushes us even further along the path towards having a super-privileged “warrior class” that is “more equal” than the rest of us by virtue of their battering rams and riot shields.
Libertarians should be rejecting this out-of-hand. Instead, they are running like so many proverbial lemmings for the surf.
you.
Never.
LEARN.
So if 10 organizations have terrible, overpaid contracts, and we have the ability to make 9 of those contracts better, we should reject that proposal because it doesn’t hit all 10?
When it elevates the main agents of government coercion into a privileged elite, yes. Exactly.

“When it elevates the main agents of government coercion into a privileged elite, yes. Exactly.”
So.
what?
Danny means “if I can use it to try and talk you out of making the other 9 better, yes”.
This is just you and your brood letting the mask slip.
95% of libertarianism isn’t about smaller government in any sense. It’s about directing all government assets against the losers in the economic system as coercion and intimidation, while at the same time withdrawing all government assets that could be of any help or assistance to them.
Most libertarians wouldn’t give two turds if our prisons were triple what they are now and the police commanded the streets like former East Germany, so long as nobody gets food stamps or Medicaid. It’s not about liberty and its not about small government with you people. It’s only about hating on the poor, debtors, and welfare.
And now your finally letting it show.
Your strawman is burning.
No, but my apostrophe is missing (you’re).
No, but my apostrophe is missing (you’re).
Government union schooling?

Funny, your Mom loves it when I do that, too!

What an ignorant drama queen! Shut up and sit down.
There are incredibly obese women in stiletto heels standing on each of your limbs. Three step off. Do you demand that they get back on until the last one gets off, too?
95% of progressives don’t givew a flying fuck about civil liberties, as long as they get their free lunch.
….with lifetime health care, six-figure pension with COLA: Hazel, you’re mean-spirited.
*BARF*
Well, yes, that’s pretty much completely wrong.
“It’s not about liberty and its not about small government with you people. It’s only about hating on the poor, debtors, and welfare.”
Did you catch the blurb today about the Treasury Department hiring umpty thousand new IRS auditors to go after people who can’t afford to buy health insurance?
That mandate has been thoroughly lambasted around here for being oppressive–in targeting the poor!
Maybe you’re gonna say I’m a 5 percenter, but I’ve always and will always maintain that the only legitimate function of government is protecting people’s rights–no matter how poor they are.
Have you noticed how the more rural and poor you go in this country, the more people are likely to despise Barack Obama and Progressives?
I don’t know what I find more outlandish, the fact that Progressives always imagine themselves the champions of the poor–or the fact that they always imagine libertarians as the poor’s worst enemies.
Either way, it’s all projection. Libertarians certainly wouldn’t propose solving the poor’s problems by sicking the IRS on them. …and advocating strong economic growth policies has done more to alleviate poverty than any government program ever can.
The next time I hear another story about some Progressives trying to stop a Wal*Mart from opening in a poor neighborhood, I’ll be sure to remind myself how calloused libertarians are about the living standards of the poor.
The next time I see some Progressives trap kids in some god forsaken inner city school district by killing a school choice program, I’ll be sure to remind myself that it’s the libertarians who are insensitive to the plight of the poor.
Yes indeedy, we should DEFINITELY allow the perfect to be the enemy of the good, always and everywhere, less weapons-grade fuckwits like Danny rhapsodize about how libertarians really just hate poor people.

That’s not what you did.
OK, you don’t know what you’re posting about.
Is that simple enough for you?
Look, if I argue with you, I must take up a contrary position.
The difference between the necessary and the sufficient.
Stop trying to impress us. We know you have no clue what most words mean.
You’re right. When faced with the choice of fixing 75% of the problem or doing nothing, we should opt for doing nothing.
You should do nothing when the “something” turns the government’s main cadre of armed coercion into a privileged elite. Yes. Exactly.
You’re getting desperate. I fucking love it.

You’re trolling but I’ll bite; Huh? You aren’t adding extra powers to the police. The police are no stronger than they were yesterday.
A less charitable soul then myself might suspect you have a position (not an idea) on this and you’re just rotating arguments as necessary.
I’m enjoying this. Watching as everything the left hold dear proves to be both unsubstainable and untrue. You should have learned that lesson twenty years ago with the collapse of the Eastern Bloc along with the Soviet Union, but you people are indeed history’s most misguided fools. What a beautiful day to be alive. Some more tears, please, Danny.
This IS our East Bloc falling. It’s awesome. Having to watch America decompose was awful. Now the sun is rising.
Okay, lets force the police unions to take that same cuts. I’m with you.
WAIT NO THAT’S NOT WHAT I ACTUALLY WANTED
I’m with Hazel and would like to raise her sanitation worker unions and firefighter unions.
Sure, take down the cops too. I’m not going to stop you, I’m going to cheer you on — most unions obstruct the public interest; cop unions obstruct justice. They’re not a union-busting case, they’re a RICO case.
But hey, the heavy lifting is done — 9 of their buddies are down, so you should be able to take this one.

THRUMP & HILLARY OPERATION BARBAROSSA/Red Hair- Look Hu’s coming to dinner part two!
[Look Hu’s coming to dinner]
To once again reiterate, now it seems as if both future Presidential Candidate’s, to the Oval Office of the American-Israeli Military Industrial Complex [SOS] Secretary of State Hillary Diane Rodham-Clinton and Donald Thrump, are in different parties politically but share common views when it comes to their views on the [BRICS] Brazil, The Russian Federation, India, [PDRC] the Peoples Democratic Republic of China and The Republic of South Africa, [Spheres of Influence] of the [21st] Century and that is NEGATIVE one. Being a fly on the wall of this State Dinner would be like being on inside of a walk in freezer, high expectations with little results assured.
[Donald’s & Hillary’s Core National Interests]
[D&H] Donald & Hillary: On July 23rd, 2010, while on a mission to Hanoi, Vietnam, the American-Israeli Military Industrial Complex, [SOS] Secretary of State Hillary Diane Rodham-Clinton, began Saber Rattling toward the [PDRC] concerning the South China Sea by [WARNING] the [PDRC], the Military Industrial Complex has [National Interests] in the South China Sea. Hillary warned that islands in the South China Sea, fall within the scope of the US-Japan security treaty. Hillary seems to think that her position shows that she is standing with an old friend and key ally the Empire of Japan, which represents a complete turn around from the past traditional neutrality policy which had been the norm, placing on the table her one sided multilateral settlement terms to any and all competing territorial disputes.
[HU]: President Hu Jintao, and the [PDRC], will reject in total that the American-Israeli Military Industrial Complex has any such right to its claim of sole and sovereign [National Interests] in any regional disputes within the [Sphere of Influence] of the [PDRC] a member of the [BRICS] Brazil, The Russian Federation, India, China, and the Union of South Africa, [Global Spheres Influence], that the territorial regions by their very location and name [THE SOUTH CHINA SEA], are the Core National Interests of the [PDRC], and for millenniums, successive Chinese governments have claimed the South China Sea as part of Chinese territory. That not until the end of the [19th] Century during the [1st] Sino-Japanese War of [1895], when the Empire of Japan militarily took control of various historically Chinese island territory, which has been documented by Ma Ying-jeou, a Nationalist Taiwan breakaway providence leader, and author of a definitive study on South China Sea International Status [Ownership] wrote that these inlands to include the Diaoyu Islands among others were in fact Chinese Territory. And even the American-Israeli Military Industrial Complex Illegally supported Chiang Kai-shek’s Nationalist Chinese Taiwan government as far back as the [1930′-40’s] published a map with a dotted U-shaped line showing that even the puppet government of the West agreed that China had domain over the area’s in question. That the Military Industrial Complex is being hypocritical by making any such claim of its [National Interests] in the regions of the South China Sea, as the [PDRC] could in no way make any such claim upon the territorial interests of the American-Israeli Military Industrial Complex within the Caribbean Sea, which it treats as its own, and both may be International waters but only in writing and not in fact.
[D&H]: Support the American-Israeli Military Industrial Complex continued sale of advanced arms to the Nationalist Chinese Taiwan Separatists and argues that such sales promote stability and are required by the laws of the Military Industrial ComplexTaiwan [Nationalist China] with the Empire constantly being unwilling to abandon its sale of arms to Taiwan, and tries to impede the peaceful re-unification of the break away province with mainland China, going as far as having Taiwan working with Raytheon, since [2007], to construct its own [PAC 3] anti-ballistic missile system. But, increasingly China has exerted itself as the Sphere of Influence within is area stopping the sale of advance arms to the break away province, and has as a main goal of China’s military build-up is to have sufficient forces on hand in the event of war across the Taiwan Strait, if necessary, if the province continues it’s claim of secession, in the new reality of the ending of the American-Israeli Empire. But, the Empire and its Imperial Media Messiah President have announced a total sales package of [?4.5B/$6.3B] Four-Point-Five-Billion Euros/Six-Point-Three-Billion-Dollars, in military support to the National Chinese consisting of a [?2.2B/$3.1B] Two-Point-Billion-Euros/Three-Point-One-Billion-Dollars, package of [60] Sixty, Blackhawk [UH-60M], Helicopters, and [?2.9B/$4.1B] Two-Point-Nine-Billion-Euros/Four-Point-One-Billion-Dollars, worth of [114] One-Hundred-fourteen, [PAC-3] Patriot anti-missile systems, [12] Twelve Harpoon anti-ship missiles, [2] mine-sweeping ships and communications and surveillance equipment to the Rebel Nationalist Chinese hold up on Taiwan.
[HU]: Will Counter that the sale of arms by the American-Israeli Military Industrial Complex violate the terms of the [1982] Sino-US Joint Communiqu?, and in no way promote the cause of peace but have in fact embolden the Nationalist Chinese Separatists endangering the good news story of increased close relationship of cross-Straits ties, with the real possibility of a Hong-Kong peaceful reunification of that breakaway Chinese province, with mainland China.
[China must draw a hard-line]
Now, Zhang Wei, a former Chairman of the Committee of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of the Tianjing Municipal Government, and former lecturer in the Chinese Economy at Cambridge University, and is currently a visiting fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC., has written and we quote; History shows that a rising military power will inevitably clash with an existing military power if they do not have regular, effective dialogue. In that case, China’s claim to a peaceful rise would ring hollow. China, the Asia-Pacific region, and the world would suffer greatly as a result, unquote. And we agree to a point, its not China’s claim to a peaceful rise that would ring hollow, but the claim of the American-Israeli Military Industrial Complex which represents itself as the Worlds Super-Power of never ending Democratic Sovereign Status Leadership, when in fact it is nothing more than a Military-Industrial Complex bent on World Domination, thru claims of National Interests upon territories of [Spheres of Influence] which have existed for millenniums, and the nations of the [BRICS] must seek [WMD’s] Weapons of Mass Destruction, of equal power parity, to ensure their Regional Sovereign Territorial Rights, against the power grab of the American-Israeli Military Industrial Complex, they must draw a hard line.

Is this “leaving the state to prevent a vote” stuff unique to liberals/progressives? They did it in Texas almost 10 years ago. Have outnumbered conservatives/Republicans ever done this anywhere?
That’s a good question. I can’t recall anything other than the Texas walkout, but I’d be surprised if the GOP had never pulled anything like that before.
Does seem quite the undemocratic move, though, doesn’t it?
The Republicans should just put the vote on the schedule every day for the next year and see how long the dems can stay out of the state.
They can’t stay away. They’re statists.
Problem is, in Texas, it was *almost* justifiable, because the issue was a redistricting (gerrymander) so bad that even once passed, the courts eventually overturned it.
This deal in Wisconsin, on the other hand, is about basic math that these pub sec folks (I call them pubes, as opposed to proles) just can’t seem to grasp.
Can committees at the state level issue binding subpoenas like Congress? If they can I’d just subpoena everyone of them for whatever reason, schedule a vote, and wait to see if they show. If they don’t warrant their asses and send a swat team to get them.
When the financial crisis started, I thought “well, they can’t blame this one on labor. Labor is an empty shell of its former self, capital will have to take the blame on this one!”
Never underestimate people’s stupidity and gullibilty, especially in the face of multi-million dollar corporate astroturfing.
Now, a good portion of the American public believe it was all caused by public employee unions and black people owning homes.

I can’t believe how much this Wisconsin thing is driving you and your ilk completely out of your minds. This is an amazing gift we have received out of the blue, and there promises to be more of it.
This is a good day. Your tears are so yummy and sweet, and your impotent rage is even better.
Better sad than a toolbag water-carry for plutocrats and bailed out bankers.
Statements like this are where you show you have no idea what you’re talking about. If you’d been around here back in 2008-9, you’d have seen just as big a libertarian outcry against the bailouts. You have this preconceived notion of “They oppose public sector unions, therefore they must be corporate lapdogs.” Corporatism is probably the second biggest topic of disgust on this blog (the first being the WOD/police raids).
What corporations and public sector unions have in common is their use of power of government to stifle competition and market fairness.
Yet what happens?
Public employees that make $30-50k/year will see their salaries slashed and benefits cut, while the Wall St. fat cats got NO PUNISHMENT at all.
Even during the S&L scandal, people actually went to jail. NOBODY went to jail this time, and the people who gave us this crisis are making more money and bigger bonuses than ever thanks to the bailouts.
Your side supported TARP. We didn’t. So if anything we should be hauling your ass up on the fire heap for the bail outs.
Burn bitches, burn!
Nobody here wanted the bailouts, Troof. We would have been perfectly content to see the investment banks, along with Fannie and Freddie, go bankrupt and have their assets auctioned off.
But with the revolving door between the financial industry and the regulators overseeing them, the massive investments of state employee pension funds, and the shameless gladhanding between big businesses and the federal government, the bailouts were inevitable.
All they’re doing is distracting you idiots.
People like the Koch Bros. and other corporatist tools want to distract you from the real problem (Wall St. ) by getting you worked up over kindergarten teachers and garbage men.
Your side supported TARP, bitch. Now get up on that fire heap so we can get the party started.
OUT HANDS ARE CLEAN IN THIS. YOU ARE THE DIRTY FUCKING CORPORATIST WHORE HERE.

Shut up and sit down, jackass.
The Koch brothers are principled libertarians, who oppose corporate welfare and corporatism.
And they pay Internet commenters like you wouldn’t believe. I’m actually a Platonic-crypto-Pol-Pottist, but the money is simply too tempting.
He really does seem to think that our problem is that we’ve just never heard his arguments before…
He calls himself “The Truth” like we’ve just never heard his take before!
…’cause there’s just know way we’d think what we think if we really heard the truth! Like I said, the poor dude needs to be deprogrammed.
Assuming it’s not yet another one of us trolling the forum, the guy sounds about fifteen.
Agreed.
That kind of being sure you’re right hits at right about 15.
I was basically a libertarian at 15 myself though, so…
But I didn’t know everything I know now.
And they pay Internet commenters like you wouldn’t believe. I’m actually a Platonic-crypto-Pol-Pottist, but the money is simply too tempting.
I once mentioned here how much the Koch’s pay me to comment and i got my pay docked and suspended for a week.
We should unionize.
Astro-turfing workers of the world unite!!!
Only because the National Federation of Internet Commentators and Associated Brotherhood of Trolls, fought for your wages!
How exactly does one get in on that action?
damn squirrels
Um… why would industrialists, as opposed to Wall Street CEOs, want to distract us from Wall Street problems? Do you think that all rich people think in terms of class solidarity?
And what purpose would awareness serve anyway? I’m aware that both major parties are subservient to Wall Street, but that isn’t really a useful insight.
Admit that you are also an anti-vaxxer and some will take you seriously.
Hilarious. Like a dog scutting his butt across the carpet because he is only a dog and that is the only means he has to scratch his ass, the Truth makes pronouncements so far off the mark they could be pointing at anyone but libertarians ( especially that yummy bit about the bailed out bankers) because he is merely guessing at what libertarians are about based upon what he half assed overheard while futilely staring at Rachel Maddow’s tits. Yep, we are certainly in their pocket. They love us so much they would never try to get a libertarian or two fired.
The Truth|2.17.11 @ 5:43PM|#
“Better sad than a toolbag water-carry for plutocrats and bailed out bankers.”
Shut up and sit down, jackass.
BTW, I’d like to see a pencil-necked geek like you walk up to an NYC sanitation worker or an MTA worker and call them a “parasite” to their face.
“Unhand me! I read “Atlas Shrugged” and “The Road to Serfdom! And I blog!”
The Truth|2.17.11 @ 5:46PM|#
“BTW, I’d like to see a pencil-necked geek like you walk up to an NYC sanitation ”
Shut up and sit down, jackass.
Ooh, hero worship of violent union goons! How can this get any better?!?
The irony…it burns!
“The truth” you are so brave, care to share your great acts of bravery with us here. How about we meet up in the boxing ring somewhere, I have some violent urges that need satisfying.
Notice how Truthy here is advocating violence…
Its funny the same guy playing the race card now, raised the spectre of the Chinese menace a few day earlier.

“When the financial crisis started, I thought “well, they can’t blame this one on labor.”
Shut up and sit down, jackass.
Please explain to me how public employees led to the housing crisis and the Lehman Bros. collapse, also, credit default swaps.
Let’s hear it!
Yeah! Let’s hear it!
Bout them unions in general, I mean!
Good point you bring up.
When Chrysler and GM were bailed out, the unions were forced to make cuts to their benefits and slaries, especially for new hires, and had to agree to a no strike clause.
The Wall St. Banksters? They got their cash with no strings attatched. Just look at how Capitol Hill treated the Banksters, with kid gloves, while they lit into the CEOs of the Big Three.
The Truth|2.17.11 @ 5:57PM|#
“Good point you bring up.”
Shut up and st down, jackass.
Now you are trying to be mister reasonable after that stunt? Fuck you.
And like people are saying, almost nobody. here. supported. that.
And still don’t. You’re confusing reason with Charles Krauthammer, David Brooks, and Republican representatives.
Therefore, obviously, the unions and everyone else should get free cash with no strings attached and no cuts in benefits or salaries, ever!
The unions were “forced” to take on ownership stake of GM in favor of pension funds & other who were owed money.
Why do you keep bringing up Wall Street bankers? We hate them more than you.
I don’t hate Wall Street bankers.
I hate the politicians who gave them my money.
IF I PROVE THAT OTHER BAD THINGS EXIST IT MUST MEAN MY SIDE IS GOOD, RIGHT GUYS?
(Or: Spare me the arbitrary Red Team/Blue Team “All issues must be broken into easily classified two part sides. This shit ain’t private vs. public- the private sector could all be horrible rapists and it wouldn’t make the union’s demands one bit more reasonable)
Spare me your false moral equivalence.
The Truth|2.17.11 @ 5:58PM|#
“Spare me your false moral equivalence.”
Shut up and sit down, jackass.
Ah. So your thing is to write things that sound a lot like arguments but aren’t and combine them with some very old school trolling (YOUR ALL COMPUTER NERDS/I DID YOUR MOM/etc).
Got it. Haven’t been here enough to recognize the determined trolls.
Carry on then.
Fuck you. You have the morality of cow. Chew on your cud and mosey on out of here already.
Would you more straws to grasp?

Who’s lamer, The Truth of good ol’ Herc?
Herc is not only less insane, he’s also less lame. For he is excellent performance art.
Herc uses way to many words to simply say that he hates Jews.
the Truth is better because his statist bile is given in bite sized portions.
Plutocrats?!?
Wow, that’s some convoluted logic expressed in really archaic terms. This is the “empty shell” of labor that helped elect Obama (who bailed out UAW and is allowing unions to keep their bloated health plans instead of his amazing one-size-fits-all plan? The same labor that’s running nearly every state into fiscal crisis by demanding unsustainable benefits while tax revenues fall?
That Labor?
Man, you might not really know what “empty shell” is supposed to signify.
23 Skiddoo!
When the financial crisis started, I thought “well, they can’t blame this one on labor. Labor is an empty shell of its former self, capital will have to take the blame on this one!”
The State of Wisconsin is “capital” now?
I don’t think he understands the difference between capital and capitol.
First of all, unions are organized crime, not Labor.
Secondly, I never underestimate the stupidity and gullibility of people like you.
Thirdly, WTF does “black people owning homes” have to do with anything in the article or libertarianism in general. Libertarians, unlike lefties, don’t give a crap about race/color.
It’s always wonderful to see people who haven’t protested before in their lives actually stand up for themselves, and speak truth to power.
You know I read all about these teacher’s unions in other states, and they must have it made. Here in Texas, even in wealthier suburbs, the teachers only make between $40k & $50k (topping out) per year, and the health insurance for my local district (Plano) is terribad; my wife and I are both on my insurance because theirs is so expensive and limited compared to what I get at a large national bank.
But jim! I was told that public school teachers live the high life on the back of the “real producers”! It’s true!
The Truth|2.17.11 @ 6:01PM|#
“But jim!”
Shut up ans sit down, jackass.
joe, is this you? Only someone as stupid and stubborn as joe would beat this dead horse so hard.
“joe, is this you? Only someone as stupid and stubborn as joe would beat this dead horse so hard.”
I’m just sure you’ve been in a business meeting with some jackass who loves their own voice and hasn’t enough brains to be embarrassed about it.
Hey, we got da troof.
Huh? I was wondering if The Truth was actually joe, come back but with an anonymous-er handle.
Content wise, this guys ranting do have the barely literate style of trying to make subtle inferences to topics he clearly had no body of knowledge in that was common to joe’s style.
Well, he also seems to have shut up immediately after I speculated that, so that makes my theory a little more plausible.
“Well, he also seems to have shut up immediately after I speculated that, so that makes my theory a little more plausible.”
That or his mommy called with a snack.
nobody let Warty know
That’s what I’m saying; I think my wife got into this gig in the wrong state. Notice that since teachers here are paid in normal ranges, and don’t have gold-plated anything (like I said, their insurance is actually worse than market, from what I can see), there aren’t these kinds of massive problems with the pube sec like you have in other states.
I just picked Houston at random, and I got $54,000 as the average salary, so teachers’ salaries go well north of 50k in Texas in places:
http://www.indeed.com/salary/q…..n,-TX.html
This whole episode is nothing but shock doctrine capitalism in action.
Can I assume “shock dcotrine capitalism” is one of those wonderfully amorphous ideas wherein every bad thing that ever occurs in the history of ever can be attributed to (quell surprise!) people you already didn’t like?
quell surprise
I see what you did there.
Would you like a xanax? (giggle) You are a poor condom full of spooged idiocy…
Sort of the way the bailouts were shock doctrine socialism, I suppose.
And definitely like ObamaCare.
So taxpayer funded public schools are capitalism now?
So taxpayer funded public schools are capitalism now?
no the Truth is saying that capitalism created the recession which created the deficits that Wisconsin is now facing and that the evil capitalists are now using as an excuse to take away Union member benefits.
How this is different then what Obama and the democrats (never let a good crisis go to waste) did with Tarp and Stimulus is different is obviously beyond the scope of The Truth’s intellect.
I don’t even want to go into how government sponsored entities by buying and guaranteeing 6 trillion dollars worth of loans caused the financial crisis in the first place.
Such concepts might make The Truth’s head explode.
The Truth|2.17.11 @ 6:05PM|#
“This whole episode is nothing but shock doctrine capitalism in action.”
Shut up and sit down, jackass.
You know, I can *ALMOST* sypathize with why the left is upset about this. While we here were spitting venom at the crony capitalism of the bailouts, no one actually did anything to punish those people. We will, however, hammer the unions.
The unions need to be hammered, no doubt (esp. the pube sec ones). But our constant cries to “not let the perfect be the enemy of the good” begin to ring hollow after awhile. Fire these teachers, bust their union, then launch independent, real, criminal investigations into the Fed, and all firms which solicited bailout money.
It’s easy for the left to call us hypocrites though, because while we may very well get this union busted (crosses fingers), there is little to no chance that the second part of that is actually going to happen.
I agree 100%. Let no oxen go ungored!
That is too advanced for “the Truth”, in his world one can only be a supporter of Bush or a supporter of Obama.
It is inconceivable for him to believe that there are some people who are actually anti Union and anti Bank bailouts.
I figured as much (about The Truth), but it still needed to be said.
It’s easy for the left to call us hypocrites though, because while we may very well get this union busted (crosses fingers), there is little to no chance that the second part of that is actually going to happen.
When libertarian economist warned of the pending melt down, and identified the cause as GES derived market manipulation, the left called us kooks.
When we criticize Fed policy that rewards favored banking interest over the public, they look down their noses at us, swallow the establishmentarian Koolaid, and then call us kooks.
Every time libertarians are at the front of the line pointing out flaws in the regulatory system in regard to banking, the left are at the trough gorging on establishmentarian rhetoric aimed against us.
Jim, it is like you have never heard of Paul Krugman for you to even be able to make that claim.
No, they have no business calling us hypocrites. They have been on the wrong side for far too long to call us hypocrites.
I, for one, would fucking love to see the businesses that should’ve gone bankrupt go bankrupt.
“It’s easy for the left to call us hypocrites though, because while we may very well get this union busted (crosses fingers), there is little to no chance that the second part of that is actually going to happen.”
Disagreed.
We (libertarians) don’t have a lot of leverage to actually affect either outcome.
Believe me, I’d be cheerleading just as much if GM was told to pay up now. And I don’t think I’d be alone.
I agree with you that we, this group, have little influence on either event. But if we would cheer two events (Chase, GM, etc. bankruptcy AND pube sec union busting), but only one of those events is realisticly possible, then we just look like Team Red Light (Team Pink?).
Jim|2.17.11 @ 6:39PM|#

Can’t help that. If folks want to demonize libertarians under false claims (and they do), there’s not much you or I can do about that.
“You know, I can *ALMOST* sypathize with why the left is upset about this. While we here were spitting venom at the crony capitalism of the bailouts, no one actually did anything to punish those people. We will, however, hammer the unions.”
I was about as upset about the bailouts as anybody, but I quite frankly didn’t see Wall Street to blame for the bailouts…
I saw the politicians who orchestrated and carried out the bailouts as the culprits. What do I care if Lehman and Bear went out of business? That was the business of their investors and themselves–not mine.
…until Obama and Bush the Lesser put me on the hook for those losses.
You say we never took them to task–what was the Tea Party all about anyway? Your opportunity to bash the culprits for the bailouts came at the ballot box–and anybody who voted for a politician that voted for the bailouts has only themselves to blame…
We had a chance to put the people who raped us in jail, and if we decided not to for whatever reason, then that’s our fault.
What we’re seeing here is something even worse than the bailouts in some ways. With the bailouts, at least I had a chance to vote the culprits out of office!
With the public employee unions? It doesn’t matter who we vote for. We can’t vote the unions out of government–so what are we supposed to do?
We support anybody who stands up to the unions the best we can. This may be the best shot we have for a long time to stand up to them. I wish there were something more I could do. Want to talk about the Framers missing the boat on something–I don’t think they foresaw or conceived of anything as evil and entrenched as public employee unions. They’re parasites. They’re cancer.
“…no one actually did anything to punish those people. We will, however, hammer the unions.”
That’s the problem. Guess who could have done something: their names rhyme with “Yo’ mamma” and “Bela Lugosi”. The left had their chance to punish, and they didn’t. I wonder why.
Bela Lugosi?
Ohhh! Nacy Pelosi… I thought you were talking about Fella Tergosni.
and his bridge to paradise.
Complete agreement; unfortunately I don’t think you’ll get La Verdad on board. Dems still controlled congress then, also…so why EXACTLY didn’t they do anything to bust up the corportist conspiracy, The Truth?
Don’t call him La Verdad, cut and paste ??.
“names rhyme with “Yo’ mamma””
Correction:
Jo mamma
The Democrats will have to come back to Wisconsin eventually.
When that time comes, let the Republicans immediately bring it to a vote.
Any other Wisconsinites on here comment threads? I can’t find any info about a counterprotest, so I’m thinking of organizing one. Email me at the address in my name link if you’re interested or know of anyone already organizing that I can join up with.
I was almost killed outside of Tomah. Does that count?
Almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. Staring death in the face is all there is to do in rural WI. Well, other than drinking.
Near-native Floridian driving at night during one of Wisconsin’s worst-ever ice storms. . .well, let’s just say that hanging upside down in an SUV in a tree listening to Ben Kingsley reading a Sherlock Holmes story was the highpoint of the evening.
Probably was just God warning me not to go to law school, which is why I was driving from Minneapolis to Chicago in the first place.
How many posts do we need to declare an epic thread?
over 500 or be about invading Canada.
Of course such threads are not mutually exclusive.
Fuck the unions.
Vouchers, bitchez!!!
Forgot to change back my handle.
This is so fun to watch. I love when teh Public Emplloooyeeez go full retard.
Look at the outpouring of empathy! Hahahahahahahaha! Stupid fuckers – Ima get some popcorn and enjoy this.
Amen!
The longer it lasts, the worse it’s gonna get for the unions too.
The unions are gonna be begging the Dems to come back for the vote before this is all over.
I hope you’re right…..I just always expect the worst. I expect the unions will scream “for the children” enough times, and enough statist twits out there in WI will follow along, and the governor will fold.
Hope I’m proven wrong and all of these people involved with these protests are fired, pensions gone, and prevented from teaching in Wisconsin again.
Like I said up top there, the last time I saw something like this happen?
Ronald Reagan and the Traffic Controllers strike.
The cap on future benefits hikes to CPI isn’t unreasonable! People know that. The unions are being unreasonable. …and the more time passes, the more that’ll work in the taxpayer’s favor.
I think time favors the facts here, and the facts favor the taxpayers. Congress isn’t about to bail them out either. Not this Congress.
I got my fingers crossed anyway!
The cap on future benefits hikes to CPI isn’t unreasonable!
Sure it is. Even the unions understand that the CPI is complete bullshit.
Up Yours Krabappel!!!!!!!!
Dear Lefties: thank you so much for the butthurt tears. They are delicious and I use them in all my sautes now.
I’m late to the game here today, but just a little request, if I may…
Can we trim back (i.e., get the hell rid of) all the “shut up and sit down, jackass” crap?
Aside from the obvious objections (it’s not an argument; ad homs signal weakness to your opponent; etc.), it just gets REALLY fucking annoying to read every five posts.
TomD|2.17.11 @ 11:21PM|#
“Can we trim back (i.e., get the hell rid of) all the “shut up and sit down, jackass”
Sure we can. When the jackasses sit down and shut up.
And as to the annoyance, why just read what the jackasses were posting; pretty annoying.
http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2…..g-schools/
It is spreading. Tennesse is now looking at doing the same thing.
I’ve heard there’s trouble in Ohio too…
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/…..-ohio.html
And it all started with the Egyptians!
Let my people go.
It’s like the Kent State shootings all over again, except this time it’s the American worker who’s getting shot.
Fuck the “seat of government.” If I want to “visit” it in a thong and flip flops, I’ll be damned if anyone is going to stop me.
As a Wisconsinite with a wife as a state employee, we’re both having a great time laughing at these protesters. She works in HR where she spells out to the employees exactly how much their real compensation is with the benefits included.
I’ve worked in the financial field where I spent much of my time helping people plan for retirement, so I’ve been able to see the difference in public and private salaries and benefits.
All I can say is that we’re about to lose some of our monthly income, but damn, it is worth it.
I wonder how the teachers in private schools feel about this. I’m sure these public school teachers have been fighting very hard to increase the pay and benefits for private school teachers. I mean, it’s for the children and all.
And a shitload of parents (ie, eligible voters) just had their lives turned upside down by the teachers’ unions.
Methinks the unions have gotten away with murder for so long that they don’t think anything they do has consequences. Pretty sure they’re wrong about that in this case.
Best wishes from the heart of Cairo. If we can do it here in Egypt, you can do it there.
If it’s true that the anti-Mubarak protesters are also anti-public employee union, then that only serves to make the Egyptian revolution that much awesomer.
Where to begin. This whole thing is so perverse. First, Republicans don’t like public sector unions because they tend to organize to elect Democrats. So, what a huge shock, the libertarians are offering their support for a cynical Republican political move.
Second, they want to take away public employees’ right to collectively bargain. That is a restriction on freedom! The unions are willing to negotiate. That’s what they’ve been doing. They’ve been taking it for the team for a long time. They just balk at the idea that their ability to negotiate at all is being taken away. And you stupid cunts, as usual, are on the side of less freedom and more oppression, because you’re independent minded nonpartisans who would never believe whatever some Republican mouthpiece on FOX tells you!
“Second, they want to take away public employees’ right to collectively bargain.”
There is no “right” to bargain, jackass.
But I suppose employers have the right to have government restrict employees’ freedoms.
Shit most libertarians are willing to give lip service to the idea of contracts. At least you’re honest about being a plutocrat cocksucker.
Tony, nobody has a right to restrict anyone’s freedom. We (I can’t speak for everyone, but am giving an opinion on what seems to be a general consensus) are NOT against the formation of unions. Employees have the right to organize however they want.
BUT…they seek to restrict others freedom by using laws stating that you MUST negotiate with them. Unions should feel free to agitate for better conditions and higher pay, BUT employers must also be free to decline those requests or hire others who are willing to work at the present condition and pay level. Why do you want to take the freedom to work away from those who want to work at the current salary?
And don’t start in with your lame “principles” as a justification for your Republican nut licking. The definition of a public servant is someone who does a job that’s more valuable than most for less pay than they deserve. And despite weak protestations that you all were against TARP, you guys never, ever spend time blaming the real culprits of this country’s economic and fiscal problems, instead focusing, like the good storm troops you are, on Republicans’ political enemies: teachers, firefighters, and other people who work for a living.
“And despite weak protestations that you all were against TARP, you guys never, ever spend time blaming the real culprits of this country’s economic and fiscal problems, instead focusing, like the good storm troops you are, on Republicans’ political enemies: teachers, firefighters, and other people who work for a living.”
Hey, jackass, wanna put that in English?
First you claim no one here dislikes TARP, which makes you a liar or a fool.
The you meander off into some innuendo suitable for framing next to the DSM.
But you’re a pointless human being who never says anything and attempts to stop conversations by calling people names and spamming with empty nonsense. Go away.
I have consistently come out against corporate welfare. Thanks for your unquestioning support, Tony-girl.
