China-style dictatorship of climatologists
Hansen: US Democracy Not Competent To Deal With Global Warming, Calls on Communist China to "Save Humanity"
I was gonna post that first link. The reason I doubt the Climate Change folks is that they are almost universally the sorriest bunch of authoritarian boot-licks on the planet. Still pushing their technocratic agenda that will them "advising" the poobahs of the world, much like Putin "advises" the Russian government. Fucks.
ah huh. that's why there's already been 6 ice ages and melts...cause u dont like...the geology(?)
so all those ice ages and melts were caused by man? LOL ur 2 much
Those darn cavemen and their SUVs!
Brett L didnt post AGW just climate change which is a geologic fact. do try to keep up please. thanks
Right. Chinese style autocracy would be really effective against non-anthropic global warming. How could I fail to specify? Silly me.
fact remains that climate change, not AGW, is established geology. ur conflating as most deniers do.
No. Hansen is most definitely a bigwig in the AGW camp. But thanks for confirming that climate changers move the goal posts everytime the skeptics score.
We must stop non-AGW! Fuck the natural cycles!
score? u mean like no ice ages ever occurred? again, brett L posted "climate change"...which is an established geologic fact.
What the fuck OhioRetard? Do you seriously think anyone is buying your retarded responses? You wrote something stupid, as usual. Just accept it.
Maybe when Hansen et al stop retroactively modifying their data with a warming bias, I'll stop doubting their "facts".
As an actual real life geologist, you're an idiot.
Not because of what I assume you believe about climate change, just because you're an idiot.
whats ur first language?...english obviously isnt.

From that datum you might be surprised that my first language is English, but it is.
ok that's funny
Do you have a full beard? No beard then you aren't a geologist (this goes for women too). Also, do you have an unreasonable hatred of engineers? Specifically those of the civil persuasion? If not then I don't believe you to be a geologist.
OO, the climate changes every morning right around sunrise and continues to change throughout the day. Is it cause by man? No, Am I concerned that we are headed into another little ice age? yes. Does that mean I can't adapt? No. Man is better at adapting himself than forcing the planet to adapt. Micro climates seem to work great for me...hell, I have dual zones in my car.
TO be, or not to be...in bed
As a regular reader and occasional poster, I just want to say that OhioOrrin is really taking the enjoyment out of H&R.

This bum Hansen is almost as much of a lunatic as Holdren and Ehrlich. He's also a lying thief as well. He's the first guy who should be subpoenaed by Darrell Issa.
Sounds like NASA needs a good old fashioned purging. Let Hansen and his buddies agitate from the private citizen ranks.
The anti-AWG movement is doomed to ineffectiveness so long as it relies on the leadership of guys like Hansen and Gore. Hypocrisy and brazen authoritarianism won't win many converts to the cause.
" Hypocrisy and brazen authoritarianism won't win many converts to the cause."
It's worked so far for Team Red and Team Blue.
Hansen: US Democracy Not Competent To Deal With Global Warming, Calls on Communist China to "Save Humanity"
Communists countries do have a stellar environmental record.
AND a great human-rights record.
Yeah I really like what the Soviets did to the Aral Sea:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aral_Sea
Unequivocal Equivocation: an open letter to Dr. Trenberth
Don't forget: Radley's link to the pirates plus this continues to build evidence for the Pastafarian belief that pirates cause global warming
Actually an increase in pirate attacks in a year with higher global temperatures would tend to argue against the hypothesis that fewer pirates lead to global warming, which is what the graph supports.
Shit. I fucked that one up completely.
Can you imagine how hot it would be, seas boiling and all, if not for the massive increase in pirate activity? We're saved!
RAmen.
It's ok. Just act like a climate scientist: claim that both more and fewer pirate attacks is causing global warming.
CNN treats Eric Fuller's public death threat as news
Then they treated his girlfriend's apology for the death threat as news, like it made him a good person or something. They left out his torture fantasies and his choice in jewelry: an ear necklace to be made by mutilating Sarah Palin, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and others. He may have changed his name from Prince Eric Fuller to James Edward Fuller in the 1990's just before a SCOTUS ruling went against him.
Nothing like being shot in a mass shooting to make someone act so rudely!
Clearly it is the uncivil rhetoric from the left, blaming the tea party for the shooting, that led to his threats of violence.
read that as being shot in an ass shooting due to morning glare through the window. Is it true that he was shot in the ass, or the mass? or the ass-mass? Is he butthurt?
I'm not gonna say he can't be angry, it just isn't news. I don't want to be shot in any of my mass, not even my ass.
>>Is it true that he was shot in the ass,?
No. As I understand it, Giffords was the only brain-injured survivor of the Tuscon shootings.
But why does he blame Republicans, in the absence of any evid -- oh, that's right, a campaign of vitriolic rhetoric conducted by the media.
its a bldg 7 conspiracy.
OK, Ohio Orrin, I have you narrowed down but I'm still not sure which bored regular is playing spoof. Oh ya, my blog is about drinking the libertarian Kool-aid
No one cares what your blog is about, you stupid whore.
Well Warty, apparently Reason posters like whores:
Referrer Views

BTW, I like whores too
Is that 1320 pageviews in the entire lifetime of your shitty blog, you moronic twat? I hope not, because it might actually make me feel bad if you're proud of that.
No bitch that's this month, and my blog is 4 months old-a good count either way

^Spoof are you retarded? I don't mean retarded in the politically incorrect sense-I really want to know if you're fucking retarded? I'm started to feel guilty playing with an idiot
Why? I'm sure you play with yourself.
hmm, do you really want to mess with me? I'll make you cry like the paranoid little gun-toting, sexually deprived, piece of frustrated little boy you are.

All this talk of little boys and heller cum is making me wet.

You were on such a roll there, MNG, but you dropped the ball on this one. Fuller can't play the PTSD card to save his ass from his outburst, unless he admits to being influenced by the outside forces of political rhetoric.
After all, Loughner's motivation for the shooting was "Palin made him do it", right?
NO. No one should have a verbal version of the "Twinkie defense" as their excuse. Owning up to losing control is the only salvation for either of these men.
Some people can't handle the Keys.
I'm normally anti taser but in this case I support multiple tasings.

Barry O -- "More regulation, less paperwork, what could possibly go wrong?"
Also, despite the headline this is not an act of political courage.
No? It sounds like political courage to me.
Ah yes, you can tell because of all the editorials screaming about him appeasing the Castro regime. Nobody cares about Cuba, even the 2nd generation Cubanos. If they repealed all sanctions tomorrow, there would be 1 week of hand waving drowned out by 6 months of travelogues.
Not to mention their cigars are second rate now...
Are they though? I smoked some Cubans in Japan, and coming back here smoked some of the same types of cigars but the Dominican offshoot, and they were not nearly as good.
We should get a "school" to sponsor a trip for some "research". Also, rum quality and whether the women are friendly to gringos.
That was a pretty sweeping comment on my part, but for the most part Cubans are falling to DR and Nicaraguan cigars. Cuba usually only occupies 1 or two spots on most top 10 lists, but then again cigars are like asses, everyone likes their own shape and size...
Obama promises thorough review of federal regulatory code, says he'll repeal regulations that unnecessarily hamper economic growth.
Ha ha. You're not getting me this time Balko
"Obama promises thorough review of federal regulatory code, says he'll repeal regulations that unnecessarily hamper economic growth."
As is always the case with Obama, this is merely a tactic designed to obfuscate what is really going on.
In point of fact, his regulatory agencies are engaged in attempting to do through regulation all sorts of items on the left wing wish list that they have been unable to get through legislation.
The EPA power grab to regulate carbon dioxide. The FCC power grab to reguluate the internet. The Interior Dept proclaims it has unilateral authority to designate "wilderness areas" to shut out oil and gas drilling. Obamas recess appt to the NLRB thinks that entity can unilaterally implement union card check by regulatory fiat. The Federal Energy Regulatory Committe wants to socialize the costs of expense power lines to connect expensive windmill power to the grid.
On and on and on.
This is nothing more than a propaganda stunt to attempt to divert attention from the substance of what the regime is really trying to do.
"In point of fact, his regulatory agencies are engaged in attempting to do through regulation all sorts of items on the left wing wish list that they have been unable to get through legislation."
Both sides do this (re: Bush's anti-porn and euthanasia regulatory interpretations).
Agreed. Regulation allows legislators to have their will done without taking any political hits. If only they could get the courts to really take up the slack, Congress wouldn't have to do a fucking thing except campaign and pocket lobby money.
Anyway, if the Obama Administration's review of the regulatory environment doesn't somehow end with a massive increase in the number of regulations handed down from our bureaucratic overlords, I will be disappointed.
George F. Will: A Congress that reasserts its power
"Both sides do this (re: Bush's anti-porn and euthanasia regulatory interpretations)."
Not nearly on the same scale as the stuff Obama is doing.
Yeah, both parties do it. Of course when libertarians point that out as one more reason that we don't support either party, it proves that we're "crazy".
So criticize both of them then. You can hang up your blue jersey any time, MNG. You know you want to. You can do it! Yes you can!
Oh, well, that makes it okay, then!
"Obama promises thorough review of federal regulatory code, says he'll repeal regulations that unnecessarily hamper economic growth."
He should watch the Coase interview that Reason did (and recently reposted for his 100th birthday). As he pointed out, there probably are good regulations, but at the size of government we have, ALL new ones cause harm. We are past the point where it is possible to have a good regulation.
I believe it was just yesterday that the EPA denied a mountain top mining permit in West Virginia. So much for economic growth concerns.
good since after mining, the "reclaimed" flat-top former mountians arent useful for anything.
As opposed to what they are used for now... NOTHING.
Obama promises thorough review of federal regulatory code, says he'll repeal regulations that unnecessarily hamper economic growth.
Yeah. Right after he gets a major tax overhaul through that eliminates tax subsidies and deductions and lowers the top rate.
How stupid does he think we are?
Obama promises thorough review of federal regulatory code
Probably "requiring" creation of several new increasingly powerful bureaucracies. "Line by line", don't ya know.
If only they'd promise a moratorium on regulation until they'd been through the code line by line, I could get behind this.
Good suggestion. A line-by-line review of the regulations would probably take a couple of millenia.
Up that by an order of magnitude if they were required to cross-reference for conflicts.
Obama promises thorough review of federal regulatory code, says he'll repeal regulations that unnecessarily hamper economic growth.
So, what's he saying? Regulation never kills jobs, does it?
Anne Hathaway to go lesbian in a long-plotted move
I'm sure somebody, somewhere, for some unfathomable reason, gives a shit.
I pity them.
OhioOrrin, above, will apparently be taking one!
He's not taking one of mine, I've only got two left and it's almost the weekend!
I can think of at least two reasons.
There is a God!
....if there are pictures, THAT'S the proof
Okay, MNG, you've redeemed yourself. Go forth, and have a government-approved day.
J sub's comment followed by MNG's just made my morning. Ah, reason's breakfast links are a healthy start to a great day!
That's a weird picture of Anne Hathaway. Her makeup looks kind of...clownish.
I find her fascinatingly odd-looking. She's quite pretty, but her eyes are disconcertingly large, as if she has hyperthyroidism.
I recommend starting at the Department of Labor with incendiaries.
How about the EPA and its substantive rule-making kingdom? Or the FCC? The Department of Agriculture perhaps?
Or and the FCC
This is an "and" game we're playing...
Obama's 1994 Clintonesque march to the middle continues...
Ths is something he should have done right out of the gate, even if it were just commission creating lip service...
I think its more likely to be a feint to the middle, while the Regulatory State floors the gas pedal and lights off the nitrous.

The Italian public responds with a collective yawn.
When my leftist friends fondly invoke European governments to me I always point them to Italy. It's as if Rupert Murdoch crossed with Hugh Hefner were President.
Except both of those guys could manage their businesses better than the Italian government. I think it needs more prodigal wastrel. Throw in Paris Hilton.
Berlusconi is only president because the Italian socialists are in the end as much corrupt as the Man himself. At least Berlusconi never lets people down by not being corrupt.
Comparing any business mogul to an elected official is clearly a false comparison. It's like comparing a cat turd to a Babe Ruth candy bar.
Well... it depends how big the cat is.

Dog Might Provide Clues on How Language is Acquired
Neat article, interesting discussion of dealing with the "Clever Hans" problem...
"Chaser, a border collie who lives in Spartanburg, S.C., has the largest vocabulary of any known dog. She knows 1,022 nouns, a record that displays unexpected depths of the canine mind and may help explain how children acquire language.
Chaser belongs to John W. Pilley, a psychologist who taught for 30 years at Wofford College, a liberal arts institution in Spartanburg. In 2004, after he had retired, he read a report in Science about Rico, a border collie whose German owners had taught him to recognize 200 items, mostly toys and balls. Dr. Pilley decided to repeat the experiment using a technique he had developed for teaching dogs, and he describes his findings in the current issue of the journal Behavioural Processes."
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/18/science/18dog.html
There's talk about Chaser giving the keynote at the Democratic Party Convention, if he hits the right notes a history making presidential run likely would follow.
He could beat Palin.
Palin: My thoughts on the Supreme Court...duh....
Chaser: Woof! Woof woof! Arf!
(applause from crowd)
She's got my support.
Is this some kind of dog-whistle racist comment?

one in seven Americans opposing any restrictions on guns at all and one in seven saying that all guns should be illegal except for police and other authorized personnel exhibiting ignorance of or contempt for the Constitution
FTFY
so u support kids, felons, & the mentally ill owning guns?
As long as they have badges.
If by kids, you mean the many age 10 to 17 year olds who fought in the Revolutionary War, yes. If by felons, you mean those that have returned to society after serving their time, yes. If by mentally ill, you mean anyone who disagrees with your political views, hell yes.
Kids: No, but parental prerogative applies.
Felons: Sure, why not?
Mentally ill: Would you require a "sanity test" to purchase arms? How will you stop the politicization of the test, its results, or the very term "mentally ill"?
What's wrong using a simple, objective test to ensure that only the right sort of people get civil rights?
The 99% of the populace that is neither cop nor criminal will be better off when only those two classes of citizen possess firearms.
i can see why u dodged. kids, felons, & the crazy owning guns is ur plan?

Favre Classy Statement on Packers Rodgers Success
"Brett Favre told Ed Werder of ESPN in an e-mail on Monday that he thinks his old team is "by far" the best team left in the playoffs.
"[Packers QB] Aaron [Rodgers] is the best QB and the receiving corps is the best ever, maybe," Favre said. "But [defensive coordinator] Dom [Capers] and the defense gets the MVP award at this stage."
I think we can all agree on a Steelers-Packers Super Bowl (with a win for Big Ben and the Iron Curtain), right?
Chaser could also take Favre.
Who would have guessed that Brett Favre would be a Big Ben fan? Besides the FSU cowgirl chick and 3-4 masseuses, of course.
I'm pulling for the Steelers to win, but I have a feeling that the Jets are going to beat them again. Pittsburgh's offensive line is a shambles now.
Jets. Defense.
Four great defenses remain standing and everyone was shocked the Patriots are done? Why? They haven't won a Super Bowl since they had a great defense, cuz you know, it wins championships and all.
I predicted before the playoffs that the Patriots would fall early in the postseason. Because they have a crappy defense. It is very rare that a strong offense alone with carry you to the championship.
Plus, they were cheating.
I think we can all agree on a Steelers-Packers Super Bowl (with a win for Big Ben and the Iron Curtain), right?
If only.
Steelers-Packers is my prediction as well. I think there's a decent chance the Jets have a letdown after treating the Pats game like their Super Bowl. And the challenge of running the ball against the Steeler defense means that the game is on Sanchez' arm.
Bears are going to win this weekend. Rodgers may have been on fire the past two weeks, but the Bears and the Packers have too long of a history for it to be a blowout, and the Bears have homefield plus love the fact they come in underdogs in their own house. They win and punch their ticket in a close one.

The scary part is not knowing exactly what Obama believes hampers economic growth... or even more scary, that what he knows ain't so.
Uh, (assuming that what they did is legal - and it has not been shown otherwise) is there some reason Goldman should *not* have tried to get some good Facebook action for its clients? Isn't that flat-out one if its fiduciary responsibilities?
Yeah. I can't figure out why that is seen as a bad thing. An investment bank making an investment for its clients.

UK Government Plans Major Health Care Reform:
"Prime Minister David Cameron on Monday waded into terrain where past British governments have foundered, promising fundamental changes to the country's expensive and over-stressed public health care system.
Cameron said the reforms would cut red tape and improve treatment, but critics claim they will cause chaos and could lead to backdoor privatization of the much-criticized but widely popular National Health Service.
The British leader, whose Conservative Party heads the country's coalition government, said he would save money and cut red tape by giving control over management to family practitioners rather than bureaucrats, and allow private companies, charities and social enterprises to bid for contracts within the public health service."
So, while our so-called leaders lie through their teeth, extolling the virtues of the (awful) British health care system, they're about to go in the exact opposite direction we're going! Absolutely incredible.
its insurance regulation not UK-style nationalized healthcare.
But everyone here knows that UK style nationalized healthcare is exactly what guys like you were/are pushing for. Obviously you can't get it through front-door legislation because the American people don't want it, but we know you won't quit trying to get it in through the back door, creeping incrementalism, or any other means necessary.
Obama promises thorough review of federal regulatory code, says he'll repeal regulations that unnecessarily hamper economic growth.

And yet governments refuse to disarm.
