Lose an L.A. County Job For Being No Good At It, Get Another County Job at Same $260,000 Salary
That's the sad fate of the ousted Trish Ploehn, formerly of L.A. County's troubled Department of Children and Family Services, now assistant to the county's chief executive, at the same $260,000 a year salary. At least--at very least--county citizens aren't on the hook for severance pay from the job she was fired from. Details, clips, quotes at my California news and politics blog "City of Angles."
Apropos of everything, Matt Welch earlier on California government's money problems.

Hey now, I have it on good authority she could be making way more money in the private sector, but chooses to suffer for us ungrateful peasants, as a lowly public servant.
Jeez, $260K. I could pay off my house in one year and STILL take home more money than my wife and I bring in now.
And I would be willing to bet you do a better job than she does.
I'm going to be the king of schadenfreude when California slips 'neath the briny waves. I really need to start keeping a link database of all this for evidence of my dark glee.
I know, I think it is ugly to take pleasure in others' misfortune but I'm right there with you. I'll marinate a steak, fire up the grill, open up a bottle of shiraz, and watch the fun.
$260k as an executive assistant? Holy fuck.
The Gubment is like the Mafia, it takes care of its own.
You got a photo of her? That may explain much...

I think she might have looked pretty once, but then the politician in her took over.
Is that pronounced "Plain"?

Is there another kind? I know someone who worked for Florida's version. Almost immediately after accepting the job, he starting looking for a job anywhere else. One thing he mentioned about the agency's priorities was that children came in second to filing paperwork in a timely manner. A distant second.
I am baffled as to why people think the government doesn't spend money as efficiently as private companies.
I also can't understand how California could have fiscal problems, with this kind of compassionate, forward-thinking leadership.
