Incumbent Advantage: It Can Raise the Dead
Our voters are highly educated and rationally informed and up on public policy sufficiently to be educated guides to where the reins of power should be handed. Of course. Thus, we can only assume a love of Tim Cavanaugh's many interesting lucubrations on the political fascination with zombies explains why dead state Senate incumbent Jenny Oropeza (D-Great Hereafter) pulled 54 percent yesterday.

There's your win, pot-tards.
Is it really that hard to understand?
I hadn't seen that before, that's terrific.
This isn't unprecedented. I too live in a state that voted for a dead guy.

To be fair, the alternative to the dead guy was Ashcroft.
And the other alternative was the dead guys wife. So we elected a dead guy so his wife who had no political experience could take his seat.
It was a retarded clusterfuck of epic proportions.
Wonder how many dead voters voted for the dead incumbent?
Most of Saint Louis city cemeteries showed up to polls. They always do.
I'm okay with that.
We at the National Association for the Advancement of Deceased People support the rights of the non-living to vote for Democrats.
In fairness to Missouri, they did boot Jean Carnahan out two years later in the special election (since technically she was appointed the first time, not elected).
Ya, but correcting a completely fucking stupid move doesn't mean you didn't actually do something completely fucking stupid.
Yeah, and the Carnahans have tried over the years to ride the dead coattails of Mel Carnahan to political victory. Didn't work so swift last night, though.
Unfortunately, Roy Blunt won, though if Robin Carnahan had won, I would be saying "unfortunately, Robin Carnahan won".
She didn't even run a campaign until the last few weeks. She was riding that name recognition for all it was worth.
Yep. Arrogant, elitist Dem behavior was definitely present there.
Of course, to be fair, Roy Blunt is also arrogant and elitist, but in a Team Red kinda way.
Oropeza is such a hypocrite if she doesn't vote to repeal the estate tax.
If the dead can vote, they should have representation.
I don't think it's fair that the dead will have representatives that actually represent their position.
Horizontal?
Another thing that death and DC residence have in common.
The D's should be required to seat her, literally, and let her body fester and decay there on the senate floor. That's politics I can support. Hell, I'd vote for her in that case.
I live in a state where people knowingly voted for a dead person because they thought that was a distinct improvement over the Republican running.
She was probably brain dead all along. It is really that much different now?
If Reason is going to have articles touting the wisdom of not voting, I don't see what's so wrong about voting for a dead politician. They too, can do less harm. And if there's going to be a special election anyway, who cares?
