Dear Media Jews: Super Sorry. Love, Rick Sanchez

Rick Sanchez, an unemployed guy in Miami, apologizes for all those things he said about Jews controlling the media. Well, almost. Here is his statement, courtesy of the St. Petersburg Times:

"On October 4th, I had a very good conversation with Jon Stewart, and I had the opportunity to apologize for my inartful comments from last week.  I sincerely extend this apology to anyone else whom I may have offended.  

As Jon was kind enough to note in his show Monday night, I am very much opposed to hate and intolerance, in any form, and I have frequently spoken out against prejudice. Despite what my tired and mangled words may have implied, they were never intended to suggest any sort of narrow-mindedness and should never have been made.  

In the aftermath of these comments, CNN and I have decided to part ways. However, I want to go on record to say that I have nothing but the highest regard for CNN and for my six wonderful years with them.  I appreciate every opportunity that they have given me, and it has been a wonderful experience working for them. I have tremendous respect for everyone there, and I know that they feel the same about me.  There are no hard feelings – just excitement about a new future of opportunities.

I look forward to my next step with great anticipation.  In the meantime, I will continue to promote my book, Conventional Idiocy, in the hopes of broadening the discussion to get a better understanding between all Americans, regardless of race, creed or religion."

At last count, Sanchez's book scanned just over 800 copies in its first week of release, so all of the free time to promote will be welcome.

Christopher Hitchens says Sanchez has nothing to apologize for. Also at Slate, Brian Palmer says that, contra Sanchez, "the Jews" don't actually "run" any major cable news network.

He doesn't, actually, if you follow his remarks closely?or as closely as possible. The guy's inarticulate. But he literally didn't say what he got in trouble for saying.

I'm not sure wtf was so wrong with what the guy said. I'm guessing there are a lot of jews in high places in a lot of networks, and I don't think they are an "oppressed minority" in modern day America. I see this as like Laura Schlessinger being fired. What she said was largely true as well. Firing her was absurd.

I started to write this thinking that Sanchez and CNN had to "part ways" not necessarily because Jews "control the media," but because they (as a largely well-off demographic) sure as hell can buy a lot of crap from CNN's advertisers. It is more likely advertiser pressure--not some mythical cabal of cloaked and powerful Jewish media titans--resulted in Sanchez' walk to the curb.

But then I remembered my own near-and-dear, largely well-off Jewish blood relatives. And those skinflints don't buy sheeit. Half the towels in my grandparents' linen closet came from hotels. The produce drawers in their fridge were overflowing with single-use jams and jellies, butter pats, coffee creamers, condiment packs, and little envelopes of Sanka from the lucky restaurants of Lee County, Florida, and surrounding areas.

Even Dad used to sign up for new bank accounts just because the banks were giving away a free toaster (that's pronounced toastah in my family) or clock radio. Not to be outdone by my predecessors, I'm now using most of those clock radios in my house. Such a deal.

If CNN's advertisers knew what I knew about the spending habits of mid-to-upper-middle-class American Jewry, they wouldn't even have wasted the dime on the phone call to CNN.
