Reason.tv: Porker of the Month (August 2010) - Rep. Hal Rogers!
Reason.tv presents Citizens Against Government Waste's Porker of the Month for August 2010: Rep. Hal Rogers (R-KY)!
Conservation or nepotism? Since 2007 Rogers has been promoting a bill which would provide federal grants to overseas wildlife protection for lions and cheetahs. Surprise! Rogers' daughter is the grants administrator for the Namibia-based Cheetah Conservation Fund, and has been since—you guessed it—2007.
Congratulations, Hal!
"Porker of the Month" is written and produced by Austin Bragg. Approximately 1.2 minutes.

Towing the party cheetah?
The line's share of people here won't get that.

Like ineffectual foreign aid to people isn't bad enough. What's next, foreign aid for microbes?
No, mosques:
http://dailycaller.com/2010/08.....the-world/
Apparently, the U.S. Constitution only restricts domestic activity by the U.S. government. Now if they can only find some way to classify *everything* as a foreign activity of some kind.
When are we gonna figure out that some culture isn't worth preserving. =(
Why do libertarians hate endangered big cats?
Personally, i dislike the bitemarks.
And the catbox clean up is a bitch.
Ah, my cheetah was an outdoor cat. My neighbor complained about it shitting on his yard once.
Read my book and you'll know.
Has anyone looked into the Koch brother's history of Cheetah hunting?
From the New Yorker piece:
Koch emphasized rugged pursuits, taking his sons big-game hunting in Africa
Somebody tip Weigel on this...
Oh....Cheetahs. I thought it was Cheatas.
Cheetos? What, is this corporate welfare for Frito-Lay?
More importantly, how'd the Cheetos suddenly become endangered. Did i miss a CSA rescheduling?
STEVE SMITH thought that Cheetos were hikers (someone referred to them as "hiker food") and he raped and ate almost all of the world Cheeto supply.
In all seriousness for the commentors downthread, why is this not before the House Ethics Committee? If this guy has been lobbying for a "cause" where his daughter is a direct beneficiary, then he has clearly broken House rules.
I never thought Reason could directly or indirectly aid Maxine Waters, but in a weird way, you have.
Didn't Cong. Weldon lose his seat because of some conflict like this regarding his daughter? Never indicted but enough voters cared to toss out his sorry ass (and toss in Joe Sestak's).
Ahhhhh, the irony.
Unlike most recipients of foreign aid, lions and cheetahs love Americans. We're delicious.
It's because we are chubby and soft, all the more reason for more sensible regulation of salty and high fat foods.
Yeah! And lets remove iodine from salt while we're at it! PPppshhh, nobody gets goiters anymore!
Not to imply anything in defense of Rogers, who may well be a mercenary bastard for all I know, but hypothetically -- If a Representative's relative were to approach him and make a compelling pitch for some charitable effort he or she was involved in, would that necessarily mean that the effort was motivated by greed rather than sincere concern?
If some saintly young lady was involved in charities benefiting the homeless, and approached her US Representative father for funding to aid the cause, is that inherently corrupt? 'cause it sounds like a Frank Capra movie.
Really? It seems more like a scene from a Mel Stuart movie.

Ok, except the Gov't is not a charity.
'cause it sounds like a Frank Capra movie.
Which one?
Rogers' daughter is the grants administrator for the Namibia-based Cheetah Conservation Fund, and has been since?you guessed it?2007.
Wow, that's a really amazing coincidence.
A "porker"? This man is a criminal. How can it be legal for him to try and get tax-revenue funds for something he has a vested personal interest? He is a criminal.
thereby assuring his reelection in red red red Kentucky
