According to the Twitter feed of Reason correspondent Richard Abowitz, "this disposes of two [of the seven] counts entirely from [the] indictment and part of a third." Background here.

This is very good news for John Stagliano. What would be even better news for both him and the rest of us is if the jury declares him innocent of charges that should have never been made.

Three sheers for that great statist institution, the criminal justice system. Usually it works.

    1. Citizen Nothing   15 years ago

You've never been ensnared by the criminal justice system, have you, you heartless bastard?

      1. Citizen Nothing   15 years ago

        Sorry. Couldn't help myself.
What was that? Did someone just fart at the top of the comments? Oh, well. Must have been my imagination.
        First!

    2. Jordan   15 years ago

The state put him in this predicament in the first place.

    3. Pip   15 years ago

As someone pointed out earlier this week, it's a sad, sad person that sits around waiting for a new H&R post so they can be the first to post an inane comment. So how many cats do you have now?

Judge Bans Taint...and Evidence From Stagliano Trial

Would have been a much more appropriate title.

  4. R C Dean   15 years ago

I expect we'll see one of the Usual Suspects show up and say that this shows the system works.

As if anything short of outright dismissal of this case when it was filed would mean that the system is working.

    1. robc   15 years ago

The system only works if the prosecutor refuses to even bring the case.

  5. Roger 'Verbal' Kint   15 years ago

    This shows the system works.

    1. Citizen Nothing   15 years ago

The best trick that Max ever pulled was convincing the world that he exists.

      1. Ska   15 years ago

        *grin*

        1. .   15 years ago

Second best trick is getting people here to talk to him.

charges that should have never been made.

But he makes movies with naked people doin' weird, icky sex stuff. Why can't he make wholesome family entertainment movies about maniacal ghouls torturing annoying teenagers and cutting them up with a chainsaw?

    1. Col Walter E Kurtz   15 years ago

We train young men to drop fire on people. But their commanders won't allow them to write "fuck" on their airplanes because it's obscene!

  7. Tim   15 years ago

Would it be ironic if a "gag order" was imposed?

    1. Resident Smartass   15 years ago

It would be hilarious if the court sketcher (or whatever that person who draws courtroom scenes instead of using a camera is called) ran with it.

    2. hmm   15 years ago

Only if it involve everyone getting their own red ball with leather straps.

  8. Max   15 years ago

Of course, we need laws and regulations to ensure the coursts won't be corrupted by intimidation and bribes that can come from powerful, wealthy private agents.

  9. Citizen Nothing   15 years ago

Sniff, sniff. Ok, who just did that?

  10. MooseOfReason   15 years ago

Or the jury could nullify the law, which would be delightful.
