Friday Facebook Link: The Wire Meets the White House
It seems that if you're a Facebook Fan of Omar Little, the baddest ass character on the Best Show of All Time(tm), the folks at Facebook can think of someone else you might like.
Sent to me by an alert reader this morning, a screen cap:
It was really only a matter of time before Facebook's auto-suggestion engine caught on, since The Wire clocks in at #85 on Stuff White People Like. Obama, of course, is #8.
For more Reason on The Wire, lots to read here, here, here, here, and here.

The Wire is the "Best Depressing Show That Had A Great First Season Ever" at most.
Except for the weaker newsroom parts, it was all miles better than most TV. But after they killed String, my heart just wasn't in it. That show was brutal for killing your favorites off.
I enjoyed the rest of the series, it just never seems to recapture the magic of the first season for me. When McNutly and Bunk go over the crime scene and have an entire conversation with them only saying "fuck" back and forth is my favorite scene ever on TV.
I loved that scene too. I'm so glad I live in a post-HBO world- imagine if your only options were the shitty, censored networks?
And, even though Chris Bauer is pretty good on True Blood, every time I see him, I'm all "Frank Sobotka!"
Those were my options. And yes, it did suck.
I know. Just wanted to taunt you for being An Old.
🙁
All I ever think is "Machine!"
I liked all of The Wire. At least all I've ever seen of it. I've seen most of the first season, the third season and parts of the fifth season.
I think if you lived in, say, rural Georgia, that list of "stuff white people like" would just confuse you. Perhaps it should be"List of stuff pretentious white coastal urbanites (NTTAWWT) like."
But if you live in rural Georgia, you're The Wrong Sort of White Person.
Like most stereotypes, it's only accurate when applied to a very specific subset of people. But that site is soooooo accurate when describing that subset. And what cynical said.
Two Omar quotes always seemed especially relevant to politics:
"I got the shotgun, you got the briefcase. It's all in the game though, right?"
and
"You come at the king, you best not miss."
Oh, indeed.
"I don't see no sweat on your brow."
Standoff w/ Brother Muzon, S3.
My favorite scene.
Well, they both love pointing a gun in peoples' faces and taking their money. To be fair, though, Omar only robs scumbags.
Winner!
I thought it was great for realistic depictions, but moved a bit slow for entertainment. It was almost a sort of fictional documentary.
Hey! That's my schtick.
Very well done.
That reminds me of the time I logged on to Facebook and it recommended I friend Barack Obama. When I clicked the "x" to close that recommendation, it suggested I friend Sarah Palin. When I clicked the "x" to close that recommendation, it suggested New Belgium Brewing. If only somebody on the Cubs could hit that well with an 0-2 count.
The Wire has completely ruined me on all police procedural TV shows (and films).
Also, if Omar Little were alive, he'd snicker at Obama. And Brother Mouzone would think Obama isn't radical enough.
Brother Mouzone's contempt for Obama could not be expressed in mere words.
Wow, this is pathetically trivial even by KMW's low standards.
What, you here to earn your graduate degree?
OK, I'm over-reacting and being a jerk.

Oh, you know I hit "Like" on that link.
The correct answer is Stringer Bell.
why does noone ever talk about oz anymore? that show was the shit!
Ah, phooey to that. Omar is the politically correct choice. Clive was the man!
I'm still looking for his shirt that says "I am the american dream."
