I'm Just Asking Questions, Part 23
He's not introducing a conspiracy theory, that's for sure. He is simply asking a question; throwing it out there, this strange confluence of events. And they are fortuitious events for the "wackos," if you see what he means. So days after hinting that President Obama is a Kenyan usurper (c'mon guys, can't you see it was just a joke!), Rush Limbaugh is now suggesting that "we look at the timing"—Earth Day and whatnot—or the Gulf of Mexico rig explosion. USA Today has the transcript:
Now, lest we forget, ladies and gentlemen, the carbon tax bill, cap and trade that was scheduled to be announced on Earth Day. I remember that. And then it was postponed for a couple of days later after Earth Day, and then of course immigration has now moved in front of it. But this bill, the cap-and-trade bill, was strongly criticized by hardcore environmentalist wackos because it supposedly allowed more offshore drilling and nuclear plants, nuclear plant investment. So, since they're sending SWAT teams down there, folks, since they're sending SWAT teams to inspect the other rigs, what better way to head off more oil drilling, nuclear plants, than by blowing up a rig? I'm just noting the timing here.
I wrote about Rush Limbaugh and "small tent conservatism" last year.
Update: Mary Katherine Ham looks at the full transcript and says Limbaugh is being unfairly attacked.

That's lunacy, of course, but it would be great if it were true (not great that they would've murdered people to do it, of course). Just like the Kenya crap--we could use a nice, Earth-shattering ka-boom-like scandal.
Ugh, Rush has so many legitimate criticisms of Obama. He really hurts his good points with garbage like this. It's just unnecessary.
That's taken out of context. The context is that Limbuagh speculated that the gov't was worried that the explosion was due to sabotage, and that the "swat" teams were being sent to look into that possibility. Just get his prior statememnts before the quote to see what I mean.
Note also, that "swat" is the administration's own weird appelation for these teams, not Limbaugh's.
Stop clarifying with facts. It screws up the story line.
So you don't know that sardonically "I question the timing"-ing just about everything has been a running gag among conservative commentators for about ten years? I guess if I only knew the Media Matters outrage! quote version of how righties talk, their strange alien rhetoric would frighten and confuse me, too.
"But-!"
He used the word "timing." It's a callback. And he's capitalizing on President Retard's misuse of "SWAT teams" (we know what those are here, right?) to mean "investigators," making it sound like there's villains to apprehend violently, not shit to figure out.
Drink.
The Kenyan-usurpation angle aside, the rest of this could be a plausible explanation:
Obama floats trial balloon for more offshore drilling, pisses off enviroweenie lobby, oil rig accident happens weeks later.
Chad must be salivating right now.
Yes he is, but for a completely unrelated situation.
Sialorrhea?
No, I'm cleaning jizz out of my boxers right now because the oil spill advances my righteous cause to rid the world of personal transportation.
It's not MY jizz, though.
Of course not, we all know you dry ejaculate to save water.
And he doesn't use kleenex for cleanup to help save the poor trees. He just keeps using the same baby-gravy encrusted rag his mother gave him when he had his first wet dream.
You mean-spirited conservatives should go fuck yourselves. I hate you.
It's only okay to engage in political/ideological mean-spiritedness when WE do it.
"It happens sometimes. People just explode. Natural causes."
Repo Man is so full of wise statements like that.
I'm pretty sure Rush always refers to cap-and-trade as cap-and-tax.
Best way to describe it.
The ONLY way, really.
The first thing I thought when I heard about the oil rig explosion was that it seemed unlikely to be an accident... then the failure of the valves made me even more convinced it was intentional. But are they working for the gov't (Obama wants stricter controls but can't publicly advocate it, so he needs an excuse), or against them (some ecoterrorists aren't happy that existing proposals aren't strict enough).
Don't listen to the man, don't object to him either. My understanding is he's in the entertainment biz. which is great and he seems to do well at it. Why go to an entertainment source for factual information and then get cranky with what you hear?
The number one hundred did it...
Damn You 100!!
It's touching how Michael hangs on Rush's every word. Could it be that secretly, he longs to share a "small tent" with Rush? I'm just asking questions.
I heard Goldman Sachs went short on Transocean stock which had started trading on the Swiss stock exchange the day before the "accident".
And if you look at the transport manifests, you'll notice that BP got all the Jews off its oil platforms just in the nick of time, too.
Ha Ha! Jews on an oil rig! That's a good one.
Limbaugh's fans can always rationalize any stupid thing he says, whether it be mocking Chelsea Clinton's looks or Michael J. Fox's disease or Donovan McNabb's race.
Not that it matters. He's just a shock jock, no different than Howard Stern. He gets paid to say outrageous things.
Not a Limbaugh fan, but you might want to study up on what he REALLY said about McNabb.
And Chelsea Clinton isn't exactly a babe. Facts is facts. But the left likes to harp on Limbaugh's appearance, which means both sides engage in strategic hypocrisy when necessary.
Except Howard Stern always had the decency (yes, decency) to never say anything about Chelsea because, as he explained it, he respects that she didn't choose to become a public figure.
Every time there's a big media report about Rush Limbaugh saying something horrifically shocking, it eventually ends up turning out that Limbaugh was engaging in some kind of flippant parody and was taken out of context.
The truth is, the guy is just a former sportscaster with a talent for talking on-air for three hours a day and keeping blue-collar conservatives entertained on their lunch breaks. He has little of interest to say, either for shock value or insight.
Hey! I'm trying to ride his coattails here!
Well, just the LEFT coattail.
I don't always agree with him, but I like and admire Rush Limbaugh. He invented conservative talk radio and he's the best at it. By comparison, Sean Hannity is almost unbearable to listen to.
Why does anyone care what Rush Limbaugh thinks or says? He...is...an...en-ter-tain-er. His act is as relevant as Alec Baldwin's or Shakira's, for crying out loud.
Matt Damon!
Way to go FAG.
Conservatives, motivated by fear, see the bogeyman everywhere they look and are prone to the wildest conspiracy theories, all while mocking those who posit Establishment conspiracies behind various historical government actions.
The same conservatives who assured us that Ron Paul's burgeoning Internet support in late 2007 was all just a brilliant botnet designed and unleashed by some toking hackers...
