In for a Dime, In for a Dollar
Why it's time to change the faces on our money
When I heard about the proposal to replace Ulysses S. Grant with Ronald Reagan on the $50 bill, I had two thoughts. The first: Grant is on the $50 bill? The second: Jimmy Carter is going to be furious. Not that there's anything wrong with that!
I'm in favor of the idea, partly because it would give us a break from the bitter partisan warfare over the problems of the 21st century, allowing us to enjoy bitter partisan warfare over the problems of the 1980s.
But there is something else to be said for the proposal. Americans are enamored of change, in cars, clothing, communication, you name it. We are always open to the hope of progress—except when it comes to money, a topic that brings out the hidebound reactionary in all of us.
The question is not: Is it time to change the $50 bill? The question is: What's taking us so long, and why are we considering only one bank note?
The current lineup of faces—George Washington ($1), Thomas Jefferson ($2), Abraham Lincoln ($5), Alexander Hamilton ($10), Andrew Jackson ($20), Grant ($50), Benjamin Franklin ($100)—has been around since 1929. The world has changed beyond recognition, but you're carrying around bills that look pretty much the same as the ones your great-grandfather carried around during the Great Depression.
Money was not always synonymous with monotony. Back in the 19th century, Edwin Stanton, the Secretary of War under President Lincoln, appeared on the $1 bill. So did Martha Washington. Grover Cleveland was on the $10 note.
In the old days, our currency was a carnival of images: Explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, Union Gens. George Thomas and Philip Sheridan, and inventors Samuel Morse and Robert Fulton.
There were even subjects now forgotten by everyone except history buffs, such as Thomas Hendricks (vice president under Cleveland) and Running Antelope, a Sioux chief.
Heck, previous generations didn't limit the options to real people. Allegorical figures were common, including a winged goddess entitled "Electricity Presenting Light to the World."
By contrast, our modern bills and coins show about as much variety and imagination as a Bulgarian housing project. The figures adorning our currency have a claim to be remembered. But there is no reason to grant them eternal tenure.
As the three presidents who had the greatest impact on our history, Washington and Lincoln ought to remain on their bills and Franklin Roosevelt is entitled to keep his spot on the dime. But everyone else on bills or coins should have to compete with other important figures.
Grant, having been on the $50 bill for nearly a century, would make way for Reagan, the most successful president of the last 50 years (Bill Clinton, his only real competition, isn't eligible because he's alive).
Hamilton might yield to Frederick Douglass or Martin Luther King Jr. Jackson could be replaced by Elizabeth Cady Stanton or Theodore Roosevelt.
Am I leaving out any deserving souls? We can go beyond political people. Maybe a scientist -- such as Jonas Salk, creator of the polio vaccine—or a novelist. F. Scott Fitzgerald, tribune of the rich, would be perfect on the $100 bill.
Or how about a musician? Say, Ella Fitzgerald, who sang "Love for Sale." Since we're talking about money, I'd include Milton Friedman, the peerless economist who worked so hard, though without complete success, to preserve its value.
Once we open up to new faces, we may find there are more we should accommodate. Fine: We can rotate in the runners-up after 10 years, and again 10 years after that.
The idea will take some getting used to. Jay Beeton and Rod Gillis of the American Numismatic Association in Colorado Springs tell me that Americans generally distrust any monetary change. That's why the $1 coin has never caught on.
It's easy to see how many Americans who tend to be suspicious of government would fear being shortchanged by any alteration of their money. For them, I have reassuring news: Our experience proves that our leaders do not need to redesign the currency to debase it.
It may be too much to hope that our leaders will uphold the purchasing power of our dollars. But if we are going to have to watch as the currency declines in value, at least the government could make it more interesting to look at.

Good Morning reason!
Even petty dictators intent on keeping their countries stuck under the jackboot of oppression change the faces on their nation's money.
Of course, it's usually to put their faces on every bit of lucre they can, but hey, at least it's change.
It's usually because they are devaluing their currency and replacing it with "new" stuff.
The least our dear leaders could do is give us new stuff after they devalue our money.
They will misuse our money. We better to prevent those idiots.
Great post! I am just starting out in community management/marketing media and trying to learn how to do it well - resources like this article are insanity helpful.
I can see the rush to put the politically correct MLK Jr. on one of the bills.
It will be enough to make me puke.
Indeed. There have to be tens of thousands of streets and schools named after him already. Enough's enough.
Not to mention he's the only American to have a holiday in his honor, now that Washington and Lincoln had their birthdays fused into Presidents Day.
MLKJ is the only American to have a federal holiday, but he's not the only person. The only other person with that honor is Jesus Christ.
Kinda shows ya where our political values are as a nation.
How much ink will I use defacing banknotes with MLK's depiction? All of it.
Money, Power and Control, change wouldn't be right...
The question is not: Is it time to change the $50 bill? The question is: What's taking us so long, and why are we considering only one bank note?
Hell's bells, dude! They've already changed the paper money so many times in the last 15 years I never know if I have play money or the real thing - not that there is a whole lot of difference.
I agree, change is scary. Also I think there are some ruffians on your lawn.
Actually, it is a real problem for people who don't handle US currency very often. Most of the counterfeit US currency in the world circulates outside the US, partly for the reason that people aren't going to recognize it as easily. (If somebody handed you some fake South African rands, would you be able to tell?) When you change the look of the currency all the time, you're actually making counterfeiters' job easier.
+1
Not if you do it correctly like France used to. The old bills must be recalled and made worthless. This just plain smart.
There is absolutely no difference. The new security features are smart(er) but the old notes are still spendable. So, nothing has been accomplished. Keep counterfeiting old notes, they still work.
The least our dear leaders could do is give us new stuff after they devalue our money. http://ninjasaganews.info
I'd replace Grant with Ayn Rand. Francisco D'Anconia's monologue on the meaning of money in Atlas Shrugged is an eloquent moral defense of capitalism.
http://rahmisari.com/2008/02/2.....-of-money/
Quote of the day:
"...when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing?when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors...you may know that your society is doomed"
uh oh
Yup. Uh oh.
Why not replace Grant with Francisco then? I always thought he looked like Ricardo Maltoban.
Which bill one does Che Guevera go on?
Nah, Anthony Franciosa.
Nah, Anthony Franciosa.
If nothing else, why do we still have Andrew Jackson on the $20? A President whose most notorious act was the Trail of Tears?
Even if we stick to Presidents and politicians, why does Jackson have a bill and not the Father of the Constitution, James Madison?
http://voteloren.com/$20Madison2.jpg
Andrew Jackson fought, and somewhat defeated, the Central Bank (his day's version of the FED).
He does have that going for him.
Which begs the question, why is he on the $20? It'd be like GM issuing stock with a picture of Ralph Nader on it.
Replace him with Jesse Jackson.
aside from your improper use of 'begs the question', i think that is exactly the reason why he should be on the 20 and stay on the 20. It's kind of charming, even though we really do need to get rid of the FED.
Gosh, I'm sorry. I'm sorry that language, you know, changes, and that no one gives a shit anymore for proper rhetoric.
And yet you understood my point anyway, despite my terrible crime of improper usage.
I think it's that "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer" kind of thing.
But, Andy has a lot going for him. I don't believe any other president served in the military at a younger age (he was 12 when he served in the American Revolution), he was a prisoner of war (also in the Revolution), served many years thereafter including the defence of New Orleans (where his army included whites, blacks, Indians, and even PIRATES!), and though some will claim that he was racist to have removed many Indians to Western states it is also noteworthy that he adopted an Indian boy as his son.
Plus, he held the most awesome party ever at the White House, fought two duels, closed down the central bank, and WAS THE LAST PRESIDENT TO END HIS TERM WITHOUT ANY PUBLIC DEBT! How awesome is that?
But I figure we'll be having plenty of new faces on the bills soon enough. Maybe Reagan on the $200, Robert F. Williams on the $500, Harvey Milk on the $1000, Mark Twain on the $2000, Edgar Allen Poe on the $5000, Robert E. Lee on the $10000, John F. Kennedy on the $20000, Ethan Allen on the $50000, William Richardson Davie on the $100000, George Carlin on the $200000, David Koresh on the $500000, Malcolm X on the $1m, Chief Seattle on the $2m, Robert Frost on the $5m, Omar Bradley on the $10m, Albert Einstein on the $20m (he naturalized, I think), Larry on the $50m, Curly on the $100m, Mo on the $200m, Groucho on the $500m so a Marx will finally have some capital, Babe Ruth on the $1b, Jackie Robinson on the $2b, Joe DiMaggio on the $5b, Harry Truman on the $10b, Grace Hopper on the $20b, Calvin Coolidge on the $50b, Grover Cleveland on the $100b, John Wilkes Boothe on the $200b, Squeaky Fromme on the $500b, and, if some unfortunate event should happen to the rapper 50Cent and make him eligible in time, he can appear on the new One Trillion Dollar Note, which will be useful in helping us remember how much the bill will really be worth by that time.
Paper money? Is that stuff still around?
It may be too much to hope that our leaders will uphold the purchasing power of our dollars. But if we are going to have to watch as the currency declines in value, at least the government could make it more interesting to look at.
Couldn't they also give it a soft, quilted texture so that we could, at least, use it as asswhipe?
Put The Jacket(no, not Gillespie, I mean the actual Jacket) on the $50. The nations of the world will fear and tremble. Drew Carey's glasses can go on the $20. Lobster girl on the $100.
You know there are other possible subjects for money. Like artists, writers and and guys with cool facial hair.
Anon-bot should go on the $1. Leave it blank. 🙂
Bring back the $500 bill. It's worth less, inflation adjusted, than the 100 was before the 1970s debasement.
Doscontue the $1 dollar bill (a buck is pocket change anyway) and the penny (when you factor in the man-hours spent counting them out at the register with an average of three people in line it is actually a drain on the economy).
Make that "Discontinue".
I can't type worth a damn.
Technically we're losing money on nickels too, but we could probably solve that by making them smaller.
Except that would screw up every parking meter and vending machine in the country.
John Adams (for the Revolution not the Presidency, so use an earlier portrait). The guy really deserves some props.
Madison, obvs
Screw putting anyone on there from the 20th century. Set up a rule saying you need a century of wait-time; that way we don't have to listen to Team Rad / Team Blue bitching and the long reach is clearer (hence eliminate FDR and JFK).
A Native American would be good, just to remind people exactly Who Was Fucked. Squanto?
Wasn't that done on the dollar coin?
yeah then they went with presidents. Or first ladies. Or some stupid shit.
"Native" Americans weren't native at all. They were immigrants, too, remember? And they slaughtered bison as copiously as Buffy Bill the Bison Slayer did. (This, not necessarily moolah-related, unless you consider buffy steak as barter.)
John Wilkes Booth on the $5.
Barney Frank on the $3.
Hmm? I figured Barney would go on the new $69 bill.
Right. Save the $3 bill for Nixon.
My personal favorite was the $100,000 treasury note adorned with the portrait of Salmon P. Chase. In pre-computer days it was used for large inter-bank transfers and carted around in Brinks trucks.
I vote Obama for the new updated $10 Trillion bill, with Timmy Geithner on the reverse in a Greek tunic. By Shepard Fairey, natch. We can all admire the bold graphics while waiting in the breadlines.
Salmon P. Chase was on the $10,000, Woodrow Wilson the $100,000.
Henry Winkler should be on a bill or coin.
Put Warty on the $50. Obviously, the bill itself will need to be made substantially larger.
Elvis Pressley sitting on the crapper, Jimi Hendrix in psychodelic full color, and John Belushi in the College shirt.
I think it sucks that I cannot go into a bank and get a Grover Cleveland $1000 bill. He is easily the best president of the last 200 years.
I tend to be fairly conservative where changes to money are concerned, but I'm all for putting Frederick Douglass on the $50.
I like this... and I'd like to suggest David Hale Williams.
Err, Daniel Hale Williams.
Who the fuck cares whose picture is on our money? Although I suppose it would be preferable to have congress debating this and not trying to take over the private sector.
Also, the $1 coin didn't catch on because no one carries coin purses anymore or likes a pocket full of jingly, heavy change.
I carry a coin purse and like having a pocket full of jingly change.
The dollar coin didn't catch on because they kept making dollar bills and there is a spot in cash registers for dollar bills, but not for dollar coins.
The way things are going, we're going to need fifty daollar coins.
WRONG. The dollar coin did not catch on because $1 bills were not simultaneously recalled. The Susan B Anthony coin was too much like a quarter dollar anyway.
I've got some change in my pocket going jing a ling ling...

I don't think there should be any real people on money, least of all presidents. That is the sort of thing that monarchies do. Before Lincoln got on the cent, our money had Indians and allegorical figures of Liberty on it. Even the best president or important figure should not be on the money. No hero worship.
As allegorical figures of Liberty are all we have left it would be good to display them.
We'll probably get Jesus.
He wouldn't like that.
I agree. And many times allegorical figures of liberty involve half naked chicks which idealized breasts and feminine bodies. And who doesn't like that?
"Capitalism was disgusting enough in the past, but now to have some cashier leering at the pornographic money we're forced to use is degrading to our rights. Womyn everywhere should boycott, uh, girlcott this money and only pay with old Susan B. Anthony and Sacajawea dollar coins."
Yeah, check out the bare breast on the Standing Liberty quarter (1916-30), which would upset both modern-day feminists AND Bible-thumpers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.....ty_Quarter
- Interestingly, it didn't upset the feminists or Bible-thumpers of that time.
oops, they DID change the design to cover up the bare breast, so apparently it upset some of the public - I remembered the story wrong...
Yeah, Indians aren't real people anyway.
Faces are the least of our worries. The problem with the dollar is that it's only worth ten cents. And it's only going to get worse. If you ever suggest that we get rid of the penny, all the henny chickens start clucking. But it costs more than a penny to make a penny. And that's after we started making them out of zinc in the 80's. (pennies use to take decades to corrode in circulation, but copper clad zinc is a galvanic cell and modern pennies will corrode in the roll) The nickle too. The metal in the nickle is worth more than five cents. Congress had to pass a special law to make it illegal to melt nickles. Of course they didn't "have" to do that. In the past we let people melt coins for the silver when it became economically justified. Soon the paper it's printed on will cost more than a dollar.
So why shouldn't Ronald Reagan replace Ulysses S. Grant on the $50 bill?
Umm, because of the little matter of Reagan being the Anti-Christ.
The $666 bill!
I like the cut of your jib...
I like it!
Agree it's probably time for a change, but in the current climate I can't help but feel that what we'd end up with would be multiple variations of "Obamabucks".
Which would be as valuable as Schrute Bucks.
http://smackamack.files.wordpr.....e-buck.jpg
I'm less interested in having the obverse changed than having the reverse change frequently to celebrate historical events. That would be cool.
As for the dollar coin the problem is not that people don't like change, it's that the change being offered sucks. The first dollar coin was way too large (you could use it as a coaster) and the ones since 1976 have been nearly indistinguishable from a quarter - you really have to look at them so they are useless in dim light....
The Brits got the pound coin exactly right. You know one by the feel of it.
Sorry, 1979 was the introduction of the Susan B Anthony ...
Reason once had a good article that began something like "You wouldn't think that it would be possible to make money that people didn't like, but..." and then chronicled all the bad designs. The problem with the Susan B. coin was that it was designed to be 12-sided (IIRC), which would have made it much more distinct. But to save money, they didn't do it that way.
Did everyone see the amusing story recently about the mint in Chile issuing a coin that misspelled the name of the country as "CHIIE"? It took people over a year to notice!
Actually the coin was supposed to be 11-sided, and Wikipedia reports that it was vending machine manufacturers who got that changed, claiming it would require expensive retooling.
One of the reasons the Susan B. Anthony dollar didn't catch on is that it was simply one of the ugliest damned pieces of money this country has ever minted. So damned ugly, in fact, that it had to sneak up on the change jar to get in.
What about the reverse having a graph of the historical value of the dollar?
+3
Come to think of it, it should be required by product labeling laws.
The reason the $1 coin never caught on is that it is a coin! A couple of light bills? Naw, I would rather walk around with a big ole pocket full of change.....
Exactly. Governments like coins because they last forever and don't have to be replaced like bills. Well, fuck them. I want my bills.
Give me my card any day. But that sucks for charities and the homeless. "Spare a quarter?" "Don't have any cash, brother."
Remove the racist murderous power usurping asshole from the $20 bill first.
I recommend replacing him with a bare breasted Greek goddess.
Work with me here, I'm broke and never carry cash anymore...who's on the $20? And no I won't google it. I want my answer here.
Did you know that that "racist" saved an Indian boy's life and adopted him as his a son?
He hated most Indians for other reasons, but not because of race.
The other charges are mostly true.
How about instead of dead presidents on the money we have pictures of candy? M&Ms; on the $1, Junior Mints on the $5 and so forth. Then on the $20 bill we could put a picture of a Nestles $100,000 Bar. That way maybe the stupid cashier at Quick Stop would mistake it for a real $100,000 bill. Haha! psyche! I'll take my change in twenties, please.
Most of the posts here are just garbage. You want to be acurate. With the current economic environment. Current leadership. The far better option would be to change to the chinese yuan. This would be proactive since it is only a matter of time.
yeah everybody, you want to be acurate so you don't look like a total as when you scold peeple for being rong.
Tottally!
The Australians have it right. Replace all paper currency less than $100 with coinage. Imagine the savings.
"As the three presidents who had the greatest impact on our history, Washington and Lincoln ought to remain on their bills and Franklin Roosevelt is entitled to keep his spot on the dime."
I refuse to use dimes on account of FDR imprisoning 200,000 citizens without due process.
FDR keeps the dime because he founded the March of Dimes.
Wasn't he dead before that? Didn't the March of Dimes take place in the early 50's?
Calvin Coolidge on the $1 bill! Can we dig him up and run him again?
If Obama can be nominated for a Nobel prize after 14 days in office, then Obama can be put on the $50 bill after over year in office.
That is so sensible it hasn't a hope of going anywhere.
Back in the real world, the reason we keep all those centuries-dead folks around is because today there are historical figures so bland as to not piss off vast segments of voters. I think that's how we wound up with Sacagewea (and to a lesser extent, Susan B.). I would love to see Reagan on a bill if only to watch heads explode.
Yecch. Poor editing tortured one of my sentences up there, but the idea should be there.
I liked the Sacagewea coin; it was attractive. The Susan B. Anthony was ugly.
I liked the Morgan silver dollar best of all - with real silver content. A Peace dollar would do in a pinch. The Eisenhower dollar was almost as ugly as the Susan B. Anthony. The Sacajawea dollar is a nice coin, but would be better if made of real silver.
Yeah, the Sacajawea dollar was a real nice one, and the mint had a contest to see which design was best liked and everything . . . and then they never followed up, except with these stupid American President coins that look like toy money. I suppose that was the plan, though, because in a few years they'll be spending like toy money.
Great idea, give more reasons for Congress to fuck around and spend more money deciding what political douchebags we'll honor.
While we're at it, we should change the color of gold. I vote for pistachio green.
I THINK, IMHO, THAT WE SHOULD ONLY CHANGE THE FACES TO SIGNERS OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE.........AND.......A READABLE AND ORIGINALIST EXPLANATION OF PASSAGES OR PHRASES OF OUR CONSTITUTION SO WE CAN ALL STUDY A LITTLE WHILE WAITING FOR A DOCTOR, BUS, TRAIN FLIGHT STORE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP., YOU KNOW,
AND THE MOST IMPORTANT POINTS COULD BE PUT ON THE ONES, FIVES, TENS AND TWENTIES. MOST OF US HAVE THEM.
WE NEED TO KNOW A LITTLE ABOUT HOW IMPORTANT WE ARE TO THE WORLD.
THANX FOR READING.

Gene and Mike we can hear you fine. You don't have to scream. This ain't Sprint.
I support putting Mohammed's face on the $20 bill, if only to see heads explode on both ends of the spectrum.
Brilliant!
+1
Awesome!!!
I'm sure my local pub would still except the bill with a 7.62mm hole in it. I'm for it!
Lets put Jesus on all our currency, we are a Christian country right? Its in the Bible that Jesus prefers America 2 to 1 to any other country.
.. except (of course) Israel, home of his mother.
Move Jefferson to the $10 bill and phase out the $2 bill. Replace Grant with Madison. Put Reagan or Coolidge on the Dime and kick out FDR.
Bye,Bye socialist!
Put Reagan on the $500 and Coolidge on the lemon.
Norman Borlaug. Most important man of the 20th century, bar NONE.
He needs to be on the 20, instead of that Napoleonic peckerwood Jackson.
I agree with cartoonist Thorbie (above). Before I even saw his comment, I was thinking, OK, Washington was the first prez. Fine. Leave him on the ubiquitous $1 bill. But JEFFERSON! Hey, Jefferson virtually bestowed Libertarianism on this country, if not the world. And when was the last time you had a $2 bill in your pocket? So, yeah, boot Hamilton, and put Jefferson on the $10 bill. Tom rooted for less gov't, while Alex gunned for more. Didn't he?
Hamilton wanted a frigging monarchy, so I've read.
I wish I were a dollar,
That everywhere I go,
The people who possessed me,
Would see, and feel, and know,
That with me in their pocket,
They had one-hundred pence,
And not in god be trusting for 27 cents.
More like about 1 cent.
I don't care whose faces are on the bills.
I'd rather just change a few of the words:
Replace:
"This note is legal tender for all debts public and private."
With:
"This certifies that there is on deposit in the Treasury of The United States of America ONE DOLLAR IN SILVER, payable to the bearer on demand."
But just exactly how much is one dollar in silver? I would rather it specify a certain weight and fineness of silver.
A "dollar" was defined as 371.25 grains of fine silver by the Coinage Act of 1792. It remained that weight until the government decided to replace it with the debt-backed Federal Reserve Note in the mid-1960s.
The reason why we as a society are in debt up to our ears, is that since 1971 even our money is debt. This means we cannot ever pay off our debts, only roll them over while the amount owed ever increases due to interest. Earn money to pay off your debts? The money you earn was borrowed into existence, so the overall debt burden of society has increased, and as a taxpayer, you are obligated to service this debt.
The more money the Fed creates, the more indebted we all become. It works for a while, until we can no longer service the collective debt.
If the national debt/money supply were a population curve, environmentalists would be pointing out that its hyperexponential growth is "unsustainable" in a finite world.
True money is that-which-extinguishes-debt. A silver dollar is no one's liability. If I put a silver dollar in your hand, I am not transferring a unit of debt, I am extinguishing a unit of debt. If I put a one-"dollar" Federal Reserve Note in your hand, I am simply transferring a unit of debt, while that unit of debt continues to grow larger, due to interest.
In a finite world, exponential growth of population always ends. In a finite economy, exponential growth of debt always ends. True (commodity) money prevents exponential growth of debt. Fake (debt-backed) money requires exponential growth of debt.
Our economic crisis will not end until true money returns to the hands of the people. This is not a policy decision, it is a fact of accounting.
Money, Money, Money, in a rich man's world. (A 21st-century world, that is.) Your kids will be looking back on this history and snicker. Because in the 22nd century, it will be all electronic anyway. Payments will move from buyer to seller (and even to beggar) via electronic devices, when even the beggars will be hand-carrying them.
Poor, poor ABBA. In the 22nd century we'll be exchanging skins for food.
No! No! NO! Stop rocking the boat, you guys! Let them keep messing with the artwork on our lucre. Don't say a bad word about those perennial changes. WE LOVE IT! (Just look at my name, you'll see why.) It's simply marvelous grist for our mill.
Daniel Boone in buckskins on the $1 bill. The reason they're called bucks is because of buck (deer) skins.
Leave all of the bills blank so you can draw in any face you want.
let's all agree that barny frank's face goes on the #3 dollar bill
hey mike ......didn't mean to hurt your ears
The reason this will never happen is that Americans include "what our money looks like" on the long list of things of inconsequential things we believe insure our greatness in the world (imperial measurements, having exactly fifty stars on the flag, including "under God" in the pledge, etc).
Plus, I like the history lesson provided by having someone (relatively) obscure like Hamilton on commonly circulating currency.
Daniel Boone in buckskins on the $1 bill. The reason they're called bucks is because of buck (deer) skins.

The US has the penny, nickel, dime quarter, 50 cent and dollar coin. We have a $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100 bills. Can't we just drop the $20 and make it $25. That 5 extra dollars to spend, right? Why not align the coin and paper currency?
As allegorical figures of Liberty are all we have left it would be good to display them.

My only point is that if you take the Bible straight, as I'm sure many of Reasons readers do, you will see a lot of the Old Testament stuff as absolutely insane. Even some cursory knowledge of Hebrew and doing some mathematics and logic will tell you that you really won't get the full deal by just doing regular skill english reading for those books. In other words, there's more to the books of the Bible than most will ever grasp. I'm not concerned that Mr. Crumb will go to hell or anything crazy like that! It's just that he, like many types of religionists, seems to take it literally, take it straight...the Bible's books were not written by straight laced divinity students in 3 piece suits who white wash religious beliefs as if God made them with clothes on...the Bible's books were written by people with very different mindsets...in order to really get the Books of the Bible, you have to cultivate such a mindset, it's literally a labyrinth, that's no joke.

I like the suggestion this article makes about rotating who is on our money. I beleive that fedeal law stil allos the US Mint (for coins) and possible the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to change any coin or currency design that has been in use for more than 25 years. Prior to the current coin designs, the US Mint used to routinely change coin designs that often. Almost all designs prior to these presidential portraits were representations of the abstract lady liberty. Typically young women were used as models for the portrait. Some of our most revered coins used lady liberty, such as the Morgan and Peace series silver dollars.
The current portraits have been on our money far longer than the 25 years the law envisioned. I agree with the author that it is time to rotate designs on our coins and paper currency to honor more of America's great citizens and leaders.

Thin liquid films, such as soap bubbles, have been studied extensively for over a century because they are easily formed and mediate a wide range of transport processes in physics, chemistry and engineering1, 2, 3. When a bubble on a liquid?gas or solid?gas interface (referred to herein as an interfacial bubble) ruptures, the general expectation is that the bubble vanishes. More precisely, the ruptured thin film is expected to retract rapidly until it becomes part of the interface, an event that typically occurs within milliseconds4, 5, 6. The assumption that ruptured bubbles vanish is central to theories on foam evolution7 and relevant to health8 and climate9 because bubble rupture is a source for aerosol droplets10, 11. Here we show that for a large range of fluid parameters, interfacial bubbles can create numerous small bubbles when they rupture, rather than vanishing. We demonstrate, both experimentally and numerically, that the curved film of the ruptured bubble can fold and entrap air as it retracts. The resulting toroidal geometry of the trapped air is unstable, leading to the creation of a ring of smaller bubbles. The higher pressure associated with the higher curvature of the smaller bubbles increases the absorption of gas into the liquid, and

I love big rings. They're fearless, flirtatious, glamorous, and full of moxie. They walk right out on your finger and catch all the complements. Big rings are the hot sauce of accessories - they're fiery on the palette, and the uninitiated should approach with caution. However, if you're like me, you like that extra kick and are always on the lookout for a new way to tantalize. With that in mind, here are a few of my favorite big rings of the moment...

The early currency of the USA did not exhibit faces of presidents, as is the custom now. In fact, George Washington was against having his face on the currency, a practice he compared to the policies of European monarchs. The currency as we know it today did not get the faces they currently have until after the early 20th century; before that "heads" side of coinage used profile faces and striding, seated, and standing figures from Greek and Roman mythology and generic native Americans. The last coins to be converted to profiles of historic Americans were the dime and the Dollar.By the way if you have need any helps of seo consultant for solving seo problem then you may contact at Bidyut Bikash Dhar who also offers Link Building Consulting Services in London, UK. The history of conflict between the NRA and Gura dates back to Heller, when the gun rights organization, fearing a loss (or, in some interpretations, fearing a victory where it could not claim credit), attempted to stymie or take over the case for years before finally jumping on board as allies in the closing stretch. Gura is openly peeved that his strategy is being questioned and his time encroached on against his will.

I heard that they are coming out with some type of denomimation with George Bush on it? how in the world did that decision get made?
Nice website, they might as well put all of the presidents on money so no one feels left out, there does not seem to be any type of set criteria for who gets put on money and who does not.

I don't think its a good idea to put a modern president on money though. Reagan is still fresh in people's minds and all the partisan politics come to mind. With someone like Jackson, we don't think about the politics of the day.

I would like to know the meaning of 'in for a dime, in for a dollar'.
It's the American version of a much older English proverb, "In for a penny, in for a pound", which is first recorded in 1695. It means, "once you have invested in a project you must go through with it, even if that involves much more expense that you expected". The expense can be literal, or figurative - time, effort, etc. (VSD) website icons for web

It's true that people of status should be included on our bills, however it should not be restricted to certain categories of occupation such as past presidents. I agree that others, considered ordinary folk, are just as worthy of inclusion.
