Stopping By Sarah Palin's Speech on a Snowy Weekend…
C-SPAN has posted the entirety of Sarah Palin's speech at this weekend's Tea Party convention in Nashville, Tennessee. Watch by clicking above. Discuss by commenting below.
Spoiler alert: Her first substantive spoken sentence indicates that she, unlike virtually all other politicians (and certainly those in the opposition), is "so proud to be an American." Perhaps, but is she proud of Lee Greenwood, who for one welcomes our eventual Canadian overlords?
Final non sequitur: English majors will recognize a tortured reference to a famous Robert Frost poem (well, famous for Robert Frost, and for poetry) in this blog post's headline. To pass the time until this early evening's Super Bowl kickoff (and a halftime performance by the Who, who have promised to tear themselves apart on stage, like they used to do with their instruments), listen to this audio version of Frost's "Stopping by woods on a snowy evening," read by the master himself and which sounds like it was broadcast from the last seconds of the Hindenburg.
Take it away, Bocephus, aka Hank Williams Jr., proud recipient of honors from the Institute for Football Preparedness.

The video is broken.
No matter. I saw that it was 59 minutes long, and the only way I'll watch something that long is if it involves lasers, explosions or dinosaurs.
involves lasers, explosions or dinosaurs
But if I don't watch it how will I know? 😉
only way I'll watch something that long is if it involves ... dinosaurs
I haven't viewed it, but *surely* she must mention McCain. 😉
Rich for the win.
Second
I have a video of exploding dinosaurs with fricking laser beams shooting out of their eyes. I will sell it to you for a reasonable price.
Spartacus, I find your ideas intriguing, and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.
wtf no robots?
What about broad axes?
How is it that you folks haven't yet glommed on the palm crib note business?
Could be a last change in the program, and not part of the speech she was to deliver.
Yeah, I'm not seeing how that would be big deal.
WHAT AN IDIOT!!!!LOL!!!!!!!!
I'm so glad we have an eloquent intelligent President who writes his own speeches, delivers them without notes and pronounces the words correctly.
Yes, I agree. He pronounces everything correctly.
That does it for you, Spanky; next time you try to give a speech, don't count on me to help you 'cause I'll go down right in the middle of it.
On your hand is silly. a 3X5 or two is not silly.
Part of the problem for her is she has made pretty silly comments in the past so any mistake at this point is just food for the media.
I'd speak from notes. Most politicians do. I'd also question from notes, most politicians do. And if they don't the ramp up to the questioning is like the conditioning of an special olympic athlete.
Good thing the people she lost to in the election never say anything silly.
That Daily Kos site you link to screwed up my browser, asshole.
Why cannot any politican deliver a short and concise speech these days? What are we becoming?
The speech she should have given.
David Weigel would have preferred that one. It's a better fit with his narrative.
+1@SIV
It was good until he went all Anti-Semite partway through.
And went all White Power towards the end. Gotta LOL at SIV's Weigel comment, though.
uh, Art, the site has "Western Racial and Cultural Preservation" as its mission statement in its banner. The alpha and omega of that site is 'White Power'
Yeah...I read the article without really looking at the banner. Whoops.
Fuck you asshole. you don't know anything about Jews. You're just a whiny little bitch.
Polticians should study how Steve Jobs gives a speech. His commencement address at Stanford is a classic.

Is she a politician?
But more to the point. The Tea Party folk shelled out big bucks for her speech. They needed their money's worth.
She's for jury nullification
she admits taking political advice from her "radical Alaskan separatist" husband
she endorsed Rand Paul in KY
My next moovie is callt, "The Nullifyah". It is about dealing wid juries dat geve the wrong ansa.
Yet, the country would be better off without her. 300 million people, and this is the best we could get?
The country would be better with all you rabidly pro-abortion anti-American Palin-hating misogynists dead. So STFU, you child rapist.
I need a vodka
on the rocks
ly I don't give a damn for this thread
Where is Marilyn?
Fucking
What about me?
You can be next.
Well, actually, Marilyn Monroe is quite dead and buried in Forest Lawn in L.A.. DiMaggio would send her flowers every year.
Palin is our new Marilyn, btw.
Marilyn wasn't even Marilyn.
The people have spoken.
Joe Biden was the best we could get.
I have a low threshhold of acceptance of our elected officials. I want them to NOT do much of anything -- so that the private sector can thrive.
That Palin fits this bill is a good thing.
That she destabilizes the left, causing them to suffer conniption fits is an added bonus.
That she is a hot 44-year old babe, who shoots moose doesn't hurt either.
Think of the damage that Obama could be doing if he were experienced and competent.
That she destabilizes the left, causing them to suffer conniption fits is an added bonus.
I like that about her, too. Even more than that, I like the way she causes them to go off on really vicious, misogynistic rants that expose their hypocrisy rather more blatantly than usual.

Sorry, I only made it to the minute mark.
So you are a ninute man?
Just because Palin is from Alaska doesn't mean we have to bring the Eskimo's into it.
Unneeded apostrophe alert
I needed to use one to make my quota.
Paid by the apostrophe?
I just don't want to lose any in the next quarter's rationing.
Acid reflux, gotta be careful. When she thanked veterans and military personnel for our freedom, I got a queasy sensation.
Hey, if we hadn't fought that Revolutionary War (and War of 1812), we'd all be speaking German right now.
Ok, that actually made me laugh out loud!
shoots moose doesn't hurt
Doesn't hurt you, y'mean.
Hurts me, big-time.
I thought she shot me.
shot me
but did not shoot me
Dead man talking?
Say what you will about Sarah Palin, her words and actions are not complicated, they are clear and they make sense. Her body language is clearly indicative of her genuine devotion to country and to doing what is right as opposed to what is politically correct. Compare and contrast the facial expressions, body language and verbal quality of a liberal high profile person with those of Sarah Palin and other recognized conservative leaders- there is absolutely no comparison to the sincerity of their message. Conservatism is the tried and true method for assuring the survival of a country and its culture. May we all gain strength of purpose from her message and assure that We The People are served well and Socialism/Communism is forever defeated in America.
I actually prefer anonymity guy to this sort of stuff.
Might as well get used to it. The Know Nothing revival is just getting started.
What would be your short list of the qualities to look for in a President?
Here's mine:
> Strongly held, well publicized, principled views which roughly approximate my own.
> The courage and strength of character to stick to those views in the face of criticism and ridicule.
> A circle of like-minded advisors to provide specific knowledge and expertise.
In short, encyclopedic knowledge is much, much less important than fundamental ideological disposition, integrity and strength of character.
The Democrats fail ideologically and the Republicans fail sometimes with stated ideology and almost always with ideological commitment. Libertarians? Not bad on ideological commitment and pretty good on ideology, but lousy on effectiveness.
What about charisma? Cosmo material?
I forgot good hair. Baldness is a disqualifier, especially for a woman.
Where?
Hiyooooooooooooh!
How about someone who gets high all day between naps and leaves running the country to it's citizens.
What the hell happened to the anon-bot? It was actually producing intelligent-sounding comments there for a while. Maybe it got dumbed down after that thread where it was talking about the glories of killing cops.
Speaking of which, I heard there was another snowball fight at Dupont Circle yesterday. Any innocent bystanders cryogenically-assaulted this time?
It was the biggest snowball fight in the history of mankind during the gratest Snowpocalypse of thee universe.
History will remember it as the culmination of Stonewall.
thee=thy
Maybe it got dumbed down after that thread where it was talking about the glories of killing cops.
"We accept her! One of us! We accept her! One of us! Gooble gobble, gooble gobble! We accept her! We accept her!"
her words and actions are not complicated
That's putting it gently.
"Her body language is clearly indicative of her genuine devotion to country"
I don't really understand that? Was everyone else urinating on the flag? She was fighting off Soviet agents?
It seems to me that the American voter is craving authenticity. I think that, paradoxically, was one of the main reasons Jesse Ventura was elected.
Sarah Palin is the anti-Romney in the sense that she exudes authenticity. Cynics may disagree, but I don't see much about her that suggests cold political calculation or a phony veneer.
The message, of course, is another matter.
She exudes authenticity in her body language as she answers "What newspapers do you read?" or "Who is your favorite founding father?" Her look of deer-caught-in-headlights confusion is indeed authentic. Her "All of them!" answers, on the other hand, are completely inauthentic lies, desperate attempts to avoid admitting ignorance. Her only claim to honesty is that it's impossible to imagine her crafting a lie subtle enough to be believable. She's *trying* to put up a phony veneer, she's just not smart enough to make it a good one.
Body language? Really? I always watch those O'Reilly segments with the sound off so I as not to be distracted by the hottie's stupid commentary.
Lord knows you can't be a good person if you slouch.
There's one thing that's very hard to deny:
Conservative politicians (and some non-conservatives) run as conservatives, and in fact tend to argue with each other over who is the "real" conservative in the race. They do not try to convince the public that they will govern as liberals, or use the word "centrist" to convince people that the hold beliefs other than those they actually hold.
Liberals very rarely run as liberals. They do not (at least at the national level) fight with each other in primaries as to who is the liberalist liberal of the bunch. They do not tell the voters that they will govern from the left, but in fact spend their campaigns trying to convince the voters that they will be "centrist" or even conservative.
Regardless of your opinions on the Iraq war, Bush didn't tell everyone that he was going to pull out the troops immediately if re-elected in 2004. I'm trying to remember the Obama commercial where he promised to nationalize America's car companies and force a single-payer health plan (which was fairly openly the ultimate goal among liberals once they were in power).
Of course, if you followed the man's true beliefs and voting history, this was exactly what you expected him to do if elected. But the majority of Americans who voted for him voted for the marketing campaign version of Obama. You know, the "centrist".
This makes no sense. Conservatives (like all politicians on a national scale) run as centrists all the time. It's the only way to win. You don't get a majority of the votes by appealing to a minority of the population. Appealing to the center was the whole point of the RNC nominating John McCain rather than one of the other lepers in the stable. Remember that George W. Bush ran under the rubric of "compassionate conservatism" which was clearly an attempt to appeal to centrist voters.
Secondly, your characterization of Obama as being secretive is self-refuting. You say that single payer health care was "fairly openly the ultimate goal among liberals once they were in power," and that "if you followed the man's true beliefs and voting history" it was exactly what you would expect. Well, if it's what they said they wanted and what they tried to do in the past, then how exactly were you deceived?
So no, The Dave, I don't find your opinion very hard to deny at all.
The great deception in American politics is that there are two parties at all. The REPUBLICANS ARE NOT FISCALLY CONSERVATIVE ffs, why do you continue to believe this astonishing nonsense? The flip side of this is that DEMOCRATS ARE JUST AS INTERVENTIONIST as Republicans in foreign policy, and just as restrictive and interfering in your personal affairs. But we are all supposed to sit around and argue about "well the liberals do this" or "the conservatives say that" ... really? Fucking really?
We have a one-party government and a two-party media which keeps a nation of fucktards foaming at the mouth over petty recriminations about who's racist or who called who a retard.
Well fucking said.
"Conservatives (like all politicians on a national scale) run as centrists all the time. It's the only way to win."
Number of times in the next 4 years Republican candidates will claim to be a rock-ribbed conservative in the line of Reagan: 1 billion
Number of times in the next 4 years Republican candidates will claim to be the rightful heir to centrist John McCain: 0
" Secondly, your characterization of Obama as being secretive is self-refuting. You say that single payer health care was "fairly openly the ultimate goal among liberals once they were in power," and that "if you followed the man's true beliefs and voting history" it was exactly what you would expect. Well, if it's what they said they wanted and what they tried to do in the past, then how exactly were you deceived?"
The important words there are "once they were in power". Very few politicians, Obama included, were elected on the promise of instituting single-payer. It's all vague talk of "reforms" and straight up denials of their real agenda. Unless of course you actually believe that single-payer wasn't the true ultimate goal of the "reforms" being touted this year. Just like how you would always be able to keep your doctor. Oops, turns out this week that there was wording which would deny you that right. How'd that get in there? Who knew?
I'm not saying I was deceived. These moves have not come as a surprise to plenty of us. But I think it's fair to say that the voting public in general bought the hopey-centrist marketing and either ignored the warnings or thought they were exaggerated. Polling would suggest this opinion has changed.
The rest of your post makes points that I don't necessarily disagree with, but whether or not politicians live up to their ideals doesn't change the fact that conservatives do not stealth their way into office by pretending to not be conservative, while liberals almost always downplay their liberalism to win.
Just as another quick example: If Palin had said during the campaign that Obama was going to put a 30-year old with no experience in the auto industry in charge of a government takeover of two American car companies, he would have completely denied it and she would have been called crazy. A few months later: "Let me be clear, as I've said before, we didn't want to take this over, but we just had to". Uh-huh.
Storm Fear
When the wind works against us in the dark,
And pelts with snow
The lowest chamber window on the east,
And whispers with a sort of stifled bark,
The beast,
'Come out! Come out!'--
It costs no inward struggle not to go,
Ah, no!
I count our strength,
Two and a child,
Those of us not asleep subdued to mark
How the cold creeps as the fire dies at length,--
How drifts are piled,
Dooryard and road ungraded,
Till even the comforting barn grows far away
And my heart owns a doubt
Whether 'tis in us to arise with day
And save ourselves unaided.
I will give her this. She would have made a better president than either John McCain or Barack Obama - or than "Stand up Chuck" Biden.
Yeah, she would have been awesome.
She could have quit after her reelection to avoid being a lame duck and to a "work for and campaign for those proud to be American, and those who are inspired by our ideals and won't deride them" because, you know, people who disagree with her are self-hating, dirty, commie, terrorist progressives. And they were picking on her and saying mean things about her and stuff like that.
"She could have quit after her reelection to avoid being a lame duck"
In truth, I would like to see the powers of lame ducks reduced. There is too much temptation to use it for corrupt purposes.
"because, you know, people who disagree with her are self-hating, dirty, commie, terrorist progressives."
You are confusing the SNL portryal of Palin with the actual Palin. This is something I have seen more and more of on the left.
By the way, I replied to your last post in this thread:
http://reason.com/blog/2010/02.....-lilith-fa
You do know that she actually said the above when she resigned? To my ears that means that I, simply because I happen to disagree with her, am someone who is not "proud to be an American" and who derides the American ideal.
I thought pride was a Christian sin?
I reread the actual text of her resignation speech just to be sure. Guess what, I could not find anywhere in it that she calls anyone dirty, commie, terrorist progressives. Here, read it yourself:

Share Print CommentsAlaska Governor Sarah Palin stunned the political world today with her announcement that she will resign as governor on July 26th. In a speech held at her home in Wasilla, Alaska -- described by CBS News as "rambling and sometimes confusing" -- she offered some details about her decision. Watch it below.
Here's the full text of her statement, via the Governor's office.
* * * * *
Hi Alaska, I appreciate speaking directly TO you, the people I serve, as your Governor.
People who know me know that besides faith and family, nothing's more important to me than our beloved Alaska. Serving her people is the greatest honor I could imagine.
I want Alaskans to grasp what can be in store for our state. We were purchased as a territory because a member of President Abe Lincoln's cabinet, William Seward, providentially saw in this great land, vast riches, beauty, strategic placement on the globe, and opportunity. He boldly looked "North to the Future". But he endured such ridicule and mocking for his vision for Alaska, remember the adversaries scoffed, calling this "Seward's Folly". Seward withstood such disdain as he chose the uncomfortable, unconventional, but RIGHT path to secure Alaska, so Alaska could help secure the United States.
People who know me know that besides faith and family, nothing's more important to me than our beloved Alaska.
Alaska's mission - to contribute to America. We're strategic IN the world as the air crossroads OF the world, as a gatekeeper of the continent. Bold visionaries knew this - Alaska would be part of America's great destiny.
Our destiny to be reached by responsibly developing our natural resources. This land, blessed with clean air, water, wildlife, minerals, AND oil and gas. It's energy! God gave us energy.
Story continues below
So to serve the state is a humbling responsibility, because I know in my soul that Alaska is of such import, for America's security, in our very volatile world. And you know me by now, I promised even four years ago to show MY independence... no more conventional "politics as usual".
And we are doing well! My administration's accomplishments speak for themselves. We work tirelessly for Alaskans.
We aggressively and responsibly develop our resources because they were created to be used to better our world... to HELP people... and we protect the environment and Alaskans (the resource owners) foremost with our policies.
Here's some of the things we've done:
We created a petroleum integrity office to oversee safe development. We held the line FOR Alaskans on Point Thomson - and finally for the first time in decades - they're drilling for oil and gas.
We have AGIA, the gasline project - a massive bi-partisan victory (the vote was 58 to 1!) - also succeeding as intended - protecting Alaskans as our clean natural gas will flow to energize us, and America, through a competitive, pro-private sector project. This is the largest private sector energy project, ever. THIS is energy independence.
And ACES - another bipartisan effort - is working as intended and industry is publicly acknowledging its success. Our new oil and gas "clear and equitable formula" is so Alaskans will no longer be taken advantage of. ACES incentivizes NEW exploration and development and JOBS that were previously not going to happen with a monopolized North Slope oil basin.
We cleaned up previously accepted unethical actions; we ushered in bi-partisan Ethics Reform.
We also slowed the rate of government growth, we worked with the Legislature to save billions of dollars for the future, and I made no lobbyist friends with my hundreds of millions of dollars in budget vetoes... but living beyond our means today is irresponsible for tomorrow.
We took government out of the dairy business and put it back into private-sector hands - where it should be.
We provided unprecedented support for education initiatives, and with the right leadership, finally filled long-vacant public safety positions. We built a sub-Cabinet on Climate Change and took heat from Outside special interests for our biologically-sound wildlife management for abundance.
We broke ground on the new prison.
And we made common sense conservative choices to eliminate personal luxuries like the jet, the chef, the junkets... the entourage.
And the Lt. Governor and I said "no" to our pay raises. So much success in this first term - and with this success I am proud to take credit... for hiring the right people! Our goal was to achieve a gasline project, more fair oil and gas valuation, and ethics reform in four years. We did it in two. It's because of the people... good public servants surrounding the Governor's office, with servants' hearts and astounding work ethic... THEY are Alaska's success!
We are doing well! I wish you'd hear MORE from the media of your state's progress and how we tackle Outside interests - daily - SPECIAL interests that would stymie our state. Even those debt-ridden stimulus dollars that would force the heavy hand of federal government into our communities with an "all-knowing attitude" - I have taken the slings and arrows with that unpopular move to veto because I know being right is better than being popular. Some of those dollars would harm Alaska and harm America - I resisted those dollars because of the obscene national debt we're forcing our children to pay, because of today's Big Government spending; it's immoral and doesn't even make economic sense!
Another accomplishment - our Law Department protected states' rights - TWO huge U.S. Supreme Court reversals came down against that liberal Ninth Circuit, deciding in OUR state's favor over the last two weeks. We're protectors of our Constitution - federalists protect states' rights as mandated in 10th amendment.
But you don't hear much of the good stuff in the press anymore, do you?
Some say things changed for me on August 29th last year - the day John McCain tapped me to be his running-mate - I say others changed.
Let me speak to that for a minute.
Political operatives descended on Alaska last August, digging for dirt. The ethics law I championed became their weapon of choice. Over the past nine months I've been accused of all sorts of frivolous ethics violations - such as holding a fish in a photograph, wearing a jacket with a logo on it, and answering reporters' questions.
Every one - all 15 of the ethics complaints have been dismissed. We've won! But it hasn't been cheap - the State has wasted THOUSANDS of hours of YOUR time and shelled out some two million of YOUR dollars to respond to "opposition research" - that's money NOT going to fund teachers or troopers - or safer roads. And this political absurdity, the "politics of personal destruction" ... Todd and I are looking at more than half a million dollars in legal bills in order to set the record straight. And what about the people who offer up these silly accusations? It doesn't cost them a dime so they're not going to stop draining public resources - spending other peoples' money in their game.
It's pretty insane - my staff and I spend most of our day dealing with THIS instead of progressing our state now. I know I promised no more "politics as usual," but THIS isn't what anyone had in mind for ALASKA.
If I have learned one thing: LIFE is about choices!
And one chooses how to react to circumstances. You can choose to engage in things that tear down, or build up. I choose to work very hard on a path for fruitfulness and productivity. I choose NOT to tear down and waste precious time; but to build UP this state and our country, and her industrious, generous, patriotic, free people!
Life is too short to compromise time and resources... it may be tempting and more comfortable to just keep your head down, plod along, and appease those who demand: "Sit down and shut up", but that's the worthless, easy path; that's a quitter's way out. And a problem in our country today is apathy. It would be apathetic to just hunker down and "go with the flow".
Nah, only dead fish "go with the flow".
No. Productive, fulfilled people determine where to put their efforts, choosing to wisely utilize precious time... to BUILD UP.
And there is such a need to BUILD up and FIGHT for our state and our country. I choose to FIGHT for it! And I'll work hard for others who still believe in free enterprise and smaller government; strong national security for our country and support for our troops; energy independence; and for those who will protect freedom and equality and LIFE... I'll work for and campaign for those PROUD to be American, and those who are INSPIRED by our ideals and won't deride them.
I WILL support others who seek to serve, in or out of office, for the RIGHT reasons, and I don't care what party they're in or no party at all. Inside Alaska - or Outside Alaska.
But I won't do it from the Governor's desk.
I've never believed that I, nor anyone else, needs a title to do this - to make a difference... to HELP people. So I choose, for my State and my family, more "freedom" to progress, all the way around... so that Alaska may progress... I will not seek re-election as Governor.
And so as I thought about this announcement that I wouldn't run for re-election and what it means for Alaska, I thought about how much fun some governors have as lame ducks... travel around the state, to the Lower 48 (maybe), overseas on international trade - as so many politicians do. And then I thought - that's what's wrong - many just accept that lame duck status, hit the road, draw the paycheck, and "milk it". I'm not putting Alaska through that - I promised efficiencies and effectiveness! ? That's not how I am wired. I am not wired to operate under the same old "politics as usual." I promised that four years ago - and I meant it.
It's not what is best for Alaska.
"I am determined to take the right path for Alaska even though it is unconventional and not so comfortable." is code language for "people who disagree with her are self-hating, dirty, commie, terrorist progressives."
Am I right?
Sorry - I pasted way more than I needed to! They REALLY NEED TO LET US EDIT OUR COMMENTS!!!!
No. You're wrong and it stems from your assumption that because I don't find Miss Palin particularly impressive that I must be somehow for Obama or McCain or Kucinich or Bachmann or whoever.
You can pretend that Palin's words don't mean what they plainly mean, if you like. That is your affair.
However, should you continue to do so, I recommend that you say to yourself, "It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is." Do this many times until you convince yourself that it really does depend.
Apostate Jew, "because, you know, people who disagree with her are self-hating" I would have changed my handle to I love JEWS on this comment 😉
Perhaps I should have said "falsely conscious." Then I could be accused of being a Marxist.
According to Palin's ilk, one can only be a Marxist or a Patriot, a terrorist or an American. A nuanced view is verboten. The other gang does the same thing. It's very sad.
Very sad to some but entertaining to others. I confess, I find the crazier equals the most amusing. Can a jew really be apostate?
An apostate is one who worships false deities, violates the Sabbath in public, a heretic who denies the Torah and the prophecy of Moses, etc.
I pretty much do all of them.
I understand that you can deny who you are but not what you are.
That does not sound the way I mean to express my thoughts.
Hey, nobody messes with Joe. (snicker)
True, but it doesn't make that speech any less painful to watch.
Talk about damning with faint praise!

The Declaration of Independence - the big haired musical.
Needs more wailing.

Blame it on the girls
"Her first substantive spoken sentence indicates that she, unlike virtually all other politicians (and certainly those in the opposition), is "so proud to be an American." Perhaps, but is she proud of Lee Greenwood, who for one welcomes our eventual Canadian overlords?"
In defense of Lee Greenwood, he may be aware that Canadians are also Americans as are people from any country in North America, Central America, South America and the Carribean.
I sat through the whole speech, including the question and answer part at the end. I liked alot of what she had to say and especially the way she said it. I can see where she would have a great deal of appeal to conservative Republicans and just plain conservatives, but libertarians? Not so much actually. Reminds me alot of Ronald Reagan when he ran for prez.
Well, Sarah would make a face of the TPM that's much easier on the eyes than, say, this guy. He looks like a Klan high priest out of uniform.
Why does anyone even give this bitch air time or anyone take her seriously? I wish Reason and others would just ignore her, it's all a cruel joke. She only gets by because of her looks, hockey mom status, and moose references. She has no substance and I never seen her say anything intelligent outside of parroting the idiots she surrounds herself with. She spends tax payer money like it's her own personal spending fund. She uses her power for personal matters. She's more ignorant of history than any politician I've ever seen and before the McCain campaign she needed a crash course on Iraq, the cold war, Korean war, WWII, and WWI because she knew NOTHING (grade-school children know more, I know I did in 5th grade.) She makes Bush look like a genius.
Yeah, maybe,...but I'd bet she knew what language they speak in Austria - unlike that boy wonder ya got in the White House.
And your evidence for this statement is...?
If the tea party can break up the duopoly we currently have, that's a good thing.
If Palin acts as a catalyst in that regard, then think of her as a useful idiot.
Stopping By Sarah Palin's Speech on a Snowy Weekend...
-Mr. Gillespie knows a Frost poem.
-Sarah Palin is proud to be American.
-No, really Nick knows a Frost poem.
-Mr. Gillespie also knows who Bocephus is, and felt compelled to explain it.

3. Hook your right finger into the vertical portion of bunched up panties currently riding up your ass.
4. Gently pull at the hooked panties and bend your knees in a squatting motion at the same time. (arching your back may help)
5. Repeat until you have gotten your panties out of a bunch.
6. Wash hands.
Sage is a chick?
I have no clue. I do know he/she's panties are in a bunch.
But you can't deduce gender with that view?
I never assumed gender in the OP or my response.
I'm just saying, since you are down there...
Hey Pens fans, how does Ovie's ass taste? Somewhere Sydney Crosby and that faggety ass Don Cherry who loves him his crying. Thirteen in a row baby!!!
They should give a big, shiny trophy for that.
There is a special bandwagon in hell reserved for Caps fans. Pens fans can rinse the taste of ovie's ass out with sips of champagne...from the Stanley Fucking Cup.
You do know the Pens had to take a bus from Montreal due to the snowstorm, and probably got to their hotel at 6 AM for a 1 PM game today, right?
Here ya go John, that is if you're not passed out, drunkard.
As far as Palin goes, it was a good campaing speech. She savaged the Obama. The left and the Cosmos are in full pants wetting mode. Is she an idiot or an evil rightwing populist second coming of Hitler? And she uses notecards. OMG the humanity!!!
I mean campaign speech. I am drunk in a bar and haven't had power since 9 am yesterday morning. So, the typing could be worse than usual.
Dude, you're going to pass out before the game even starts. Better go cook another batch so you can stay awake and drink more.
With any luck I will pass out and end up in an emergency room. At least they will have power.
Another "free rider" in the ranks.
The counter protestors outside singing a song they think Mandella wrote didn't need notecards. Shows you who the real brains are.
Get a brain, morans!
Holy crap, they were singing Boer war songs?
-jcr
She savaged the Obama. The left and the Cosmos are in full pants wetting mode.
So are the neocons and RINOs over her Rand Paul endorsement.
I'm sorry I clicked that link.
You shouldn't be. It shows Sarah Palin is making all the right enemies.
p.s?.the true Paultards goal is payback for that. Thats why they pretend to be "True Republicans" instead of Bircher Paleo-Anarcho-Libertarians. Their goal is to start at the Precint level, and work their way up with the Lew Rockwell vision of the world to replace the traditional GOP conservative vision. They are using Alinsky type tactics, are lying and deceiving like their allies on the Chomsky Left. Nothing good will come of this, for the GOP or the Country.
(just a sample)
That place is as fucking crazy as the commenters on the Moyers link where The Jacket wiped the floor with Lessig.
Neocon my ass! Anyone who would spell "precinct" like that has to be a Chicago Democrat! Somewhere, the ghost of Daly is smiling.
Only Democrats make typos?
It's a Chicago thing. If you'd ever heard the original Mayor Daly pronounce that word, you would understand.
It was said while he never learned how to pronounce "precinct", he sure knew how to work one.
Fuck me - I did, too. "Always trust a Reasonite who implies you'll regret going to the link, always trust a Reasonite who implies you'll regret going to the link..."
Fortunately, I made it back after only a paragraph or so.
Feel the dissonance:
"Their utopian visions and views that...we should be isolationist free-traders"
Sweet. Isolationist free-traders. So we believe that we're supposed to freely trade with only ourselves. I did not know that. Thanks, RedState!
Erick Erickson, the owner of RedState endorsed Rand Paul as well.Schism!
As I always say - nothing like communing with libertarians. "Free trading with ourselves" sounds like the new "took a hike on the Appalachian Trail".
Nobody cares about all this court garbage Peter. Get out there and get me a story about Sara Palin!
Keith Moon was a God.
It was nice to see him back on stage with The Who tonight.
Bocephus? Fuck that guy.
His kid should be doing the halftime show, instead of that moldy troupe of cadavers.
I'd rather be water boarded than listen to Sarah Palin for 59 minutes and 11 seconds.
The TEA Party needs to get her out of the spotlight, ASAP. She's going to ruin a good thing.
Yeah, she's a TINO (Teabagger In Name Only).
I thought Tino was one of the Jackson Five?
There was nothing of substance.
Q: How do you combat terrorism?
A. WE WIN!!!!!!!
Silly, typical rebel rousing Palin stuff?take it seriously at your own risk. There is nothing behind the curtain.
Palin said "I am proud to be an American" 20 times and kept looking down at crib notes on HER HAND!!!! C'mon!
For 100 grand Palin should at least memorize her propaganda.
How rich that she read her talk in a sing-song voice as she ripped Barack Obama for using a Teleprompter. Once she left the speech for the Q&A, she really went off-message, as well as nearly off-English. (Even though it looked like, at one point, she was reading answers off of her hand.) "They're not knowin what are we gonna do if we don't have Tea Party support" was one of my favorite head-scratchers, a great echo of "when Putin rears his head."
Palin said "I am proud to be an American" 20 times
That's better than bowing to and hand-kissing the leader of every third rate country she visits and apologizing for being an American....unlike a certain empty suit I can think of.
shit! shit! shit! like a certain empty suit I can think of.
Typical liberal douchebag. Scared to use your real name? Just because Bush walked around holding hands with Saudi dignitaries does not mean he was "gay for arabs". And cutting deals with every other dictator in the middle east was necessary for the war on terror, but you would understand that because you're a liberal elitist. And Bush (whose clothes fit just fine) isn't in office anymore, Obama is so deal with it. Goddam Air-American loving liberals.
"Goddam Air-American [sic] loving liberals."
Loving dead things is sick.
Physically loving dead things is sick.
Shit-for-brains, what makes you think I was refering to Bush? Obambi is who I had in mind - who else in this country would be such an ignorant jackass as to bow to some king?
Or to Japanese-style bow to the Asian American mayor of Tampa.
Yet another "if a Republican did this he'd be an idiot racist, but in this case....nothing to see here".
Swing and a miss !! I knew you'd take the bait. Thanks for playing.
You are exaggerating. Obama did not bow and hand-kiss the leader of Norway.
I would rather jab knitting needles in my ears than listen to Sarah Palin.
Feel free, dude.
Wasn't the fetish thread a couple of days ago?
There are many kinds of fetish. Palin bashing is one. Palin lovin' is another. All I want to know is who took my Gerbil-horn.
Who here thinks we should be able to edit comments when we want to?
Our own or those of others?
Our own - only on our own.
aye
Laa, Nyet, Nye, Nee
What's the fun in that?
The thing about that though, is what happens when someone replies to a comment and then the original commenter comes back and edits what he had posted? Seems like that would make everything a confusing mess. Nested comments are confusing enought as it is.
Yup and the answer is not quoting what you are responding to as that can be doctored. Best to leave the impartial squirrell in charge of preserving what was submitted.
Over at Cafe Hayek, once a post is responded to, editing of the post is no longer possible.
Well first of all we would need to have a username-password system in order to edit comments. I think this would take a bit more work than whoever runs this site is willing to do, but it would really be great if commenting here had the same features as youtube commenting.
Also, we need some html buttons or something.
It would be great if commenting here had youtube's attitude, too.
We already have a link to a speech referencing the Jewish banker conspiracy, I think that's enough.
Not just no, Hell No!
That sounds difficult. Maybe there should be some way to see what our comments will look like before actually hitting the submit button. You know, some sort of test view, or something.
No way. This crowd will never tolerate that!
Wow, I wish Palin would wake up, can crawl back under that rock from which she emerged.

I agree.
What if she was your mommy? Are you ever tempted to yell " ahh shucks"? Do you have an unnatural desire to break passover with moose meat?
If she was my mommy I would probably have killed myself long before now. No, I have never been tempted to yell "ahh shucks." I do not celebrate passover, nor would eating moose meat "break passover."
Got it. Moose meat is kosher
Actually moose is kosher, but breaking Passover means eating something leavened, not eating something non-kosher (although eating a non-kosher animal at any time is much worse than eating bread on Passover). Other animals that you probably didn't know were kosher: pronghorns, Giant Elands (type of antelope), giraffes, and bongos (another type of antelope).
The More You Know?
once again the 'bot fits right in
I liked the misstep ~15:15 freedom seekers around the world "wonder if Alaska is still that beacon of hope". Nyark. That'll be fodder fer shur.
Chicago is still the bacon of hope, so it fits.
Dude. That was no misstep. She really believes that Alaska is the beacon of hope for all mankind.
Given the fact that Bigfoot fled there from Oregon in the 1960's when all the good weed ran out, one would have to agree with Palin.
Ouch. So the Big Cryptid bypassed Canada entirely?
... is there no end to thy humiliation?
Have you ever been to Alaska? There is as they say "a lot of people who don't want to be found" up there. It is, like Key West and New Orleans in the lower 48, pretty much the end of the line. You can't go any further down river, down highway 1 or up the AlCAN Highway when you get to those places. It there for attracts a lot of people looking for second chances. Alaska really is kind of a beacon of hope for odd balls and misfits. Libertarians, if they hadn't been corrupted by cosmotarian posers, would love the place.
Some things I really liked:
> 'Work hard for candidates, but put your faith in ideas.' Amen. People let you down. A failed person does not imply a failed idea.
> 'Strongly contested primaries are a very good thing.' A good attitude for throwing the current crop of bums out. The party establishments really hate this attitude, so it must be good.
> "We need a commander-in-chief not a professor of law standing at a lectern." Given what is taught in law school nowadays, I have to agree although I would have changed it to "petulant mama's boy professor ..."
> 'If criticized by the Media, plow ahead.' 'If there is a fundamental disagreement on an issue don't fake a bipartisan attitude. You lose credibility.' (heavily paraphrased)
> Free markets are a good thing. Get government out of the way. Government is too big.
> She started well by admonishing to say what you mean by using "war" not "overseas contingency operation", but then blew it by saying "homicide bomber" instead of "suicide bomber".
Some things I didn't like:
> She seemed fervently on board with spreading democracy by force and the narrative that the US is in a civilizational battle-to-the-death with "fundamentalist Islamists".
> The underwear bomber is a "terrorist who hates our Constitution". Any bets on how much Mr. Pants-on-fire knows about our Constitution (other than the fifth amendment)?
> She seemed pretty concerned about Iran. She probably wouldn't mind direct intervention there.
> She called the vile John McCain an American Hero.
> She took a few swipes at executive bonuses and Wall St. fat-cats.
The underwear bomber is a "terrorist who hates our Constitution". Any bets on how much Mr. Pants-on-fire knows about our Constitution (other than the fifth amendment)?
Enough to run for veep, anyway.
At the minimum he probably knows a lot less that isn't true than our current law-school educated president.
"She called the vile John McCain an American Hero" What is your definition if he isn't a hero?
Yeah, he is a lousy politician. And he would have made a lousy President, although not as bad as The Obama. But, the guy did win a medel of honor.
I don't think that's correct. The Medal of Honor part.
You are right it is not. Stockbridge won the MOH not McCain. I always get that confused. But nonetheless, McCain was no slouch. but that doesn't make him a good politician.
John Kerry, another hero, has three, count 'em, three, purple hearts.
So what? He also slandered everyone he served with. Regardless, it doesn't make Kerry a decent politician anymore than it made McCain one.
I give him cred for going to war although he seemed a little reluctant to enter the service, perhaps because of his family's military tradition which would be tough to live up to. That's about where my respect for him ends.
He has taken an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution both as part of his military service and as part of being an elected official. His conduct in office indicates that he not only doesn't take his oath seriously, he is, at times, openly hostile to the political liberty of the American people. So, he is an oath breaker.
Furthermore, he has occasionally used his time spent as a POW to cynically deflect criticism by his political opponents. Making him an evasive sleazeball.
During the last campaign, he claimed he believed in the political vision of America's FF's. Making him a liar.
His overall political strategy is fairly unique and simple: don't do much fund raising (which is why he can rail against earmarks) and garner an enormous amount of free and very positive media coverage by sabotaging any effort by anybody to slow the growth of government, indicating that his slogan "putting country before party" should really be "putting John McCain before liberty, country or party". Making him self-serving.
He has let his campaign staff smear Sarah Palin publically. So, though he may have been an officer, he is no gentleman and demonstrates not the slightest hint of personal loyalty.
How's that for starters? I think Reason has a more extensive examination of McCain somewhere.
he may have been an officer, he is no gentleman and demonstrates not the slightest hint of personal loyalty.
I'd say his marital history was already proof of that.
-jcr
And another thing ...
During an appearance before the National Service Association (I'm sure I have the name wrong), he happily pandered by saying he thought everyone should engage in national service. I would have liked to see him look the org's president in the eye and say something like, "Service as a part of civil society is a terrific thing, particularly at the local level. In fact, that kind of service is an important part of American culture, but I don't support the idea of nation service or encouraging national service because it implies that the American citizen is somehow in debt to the American Government, that a piece of him is owed to the Government. That is an inversion of the proper relationship between the American Government and the American People."
McCain didn't say it, never would say it, even though he calls himself a Maverick.
Sadistic Eristic,"He has let his campaign staff smear Sarah Palin publically. So, though he may have been an officer, he is no gentleman and demonstrates not the slightest hint of personal loyalty." Even Palin knew that was just politics and part of the game. Why did he owe her loyalty?
So, inviting her on the ticket and then letting his staff humiliate her is just "part of the game"? I disagree. Simple human decency would have dictated that he got them to knock it off. To top it off, he didn't gain anything by not silencing them (maybe even helping them trash her behind-the-scenes), so it wasn't even good politics. Face it. The guys just a prick.
Sadistic Eristic, We can agree it was the last chance for Mccain to be POTUS. I doubt that the careful strategy planning and decision making would include a media frenzy on teenage pregnancy. I don't blame McCain or his staff for resenting that omission because it was at the very least a distraction. Palin lacked personal loyalty and her focus was always on her future campaign and not on McCain running for President.
Now if some valiant and noble soul will knock him out in the primary, maybe he will get around to doing what he should be doing: crawling around America on his knees for the rest of his life and begging everyone he sees to forgive him for spearheading the effort to pass legislation that stripped 300 Million people of their God-given right to free speech.
Definitely not the impression I got from reading her book. I got the distinct impression that she was in way over her head, was a bit naive and deferred to her handlers, thinking for some reason that she could trust them. I can't help noticing how some people insist that Palin is a clueless ditz one minute and then imbue her with preternatural and malevolent political cunning the next. Not sayin' you're doing that. I am just sayin'.
I doubt that anyone can be in the political arena without a calculating narcissistic nature and that includes Palin. The beauty queen/way over her head is part of rehabilitating the damage from the campaign. I haven't read her book but an honest biography is unlikely at this point in her life. I don't think McCain will run again but "...crawling around America on his knees for the rest of his life and begging everyone he sees to forgive him" is a little harsh for a man who spent time in a POW prison camp.
So it is your position then that anyone who has suffered physical mistreatment has the moral authority to strip others of their freedoms?
You know who else suffered physically, don't you? Corporal Hitler, that's who!
I really am not versed on McCain?Feingold Act to argue whether the intent was to kill free speech. My impression was that it intended to control big business but I admit ignorance. My comment really was about McCain and his sacrifice. It seems you resent him so much that you cannot separate the man from the politician.
I can separate the man from the politician and I don't find much to like about either. Yes, he signed up for military service and suffered horribly for it, but there is a lot of evidence that the bulk of his actions as a man and as a politician has been guided by selfishness and a callous disregard for others.
Beware those who speak of "intent". The reality of McCain-Feingold was that it could and was used to silence political opposition by threatening imprisonment. And why is control of big business by bureaucrats a good thing anyway? Are bureaucrats so very trustworthy?
If you are inclined to learn more about McCain and the bastard demon children of his political loins, type "John McCain" in the search box at the top of this page. The returned links should provide you a good start in understanding the real JMcC.
Palin is an airhead. But consider: she just got paid more for a one hour speech than lots of people make in a whole year.
Holding all other things the same and equal, how many of you would not prefer to have Palin in the White House right now over Obama?
I for one would be far more content knowing that she and Pelosi had spent the past year girl fighting in some obscure room of the White House [but please spare us and don't televise it], compared to what's been going on.
On second thought, I'd take the Palin-Pelosi match 24/7 over watching congress decide it's time to finish socializing our medical system.
But Palin wouldn't be the President even if she was. Any kind of close advisor with half a brain would be calling the shots, not her.
Uggh
Her husband would be a strong contender.
Palin or Obama? Firing squad or gas chamber? Decisions, decisions...
I was thinking "divided government = good".
I was also thinking:
Choice A: airhead who might be able to keep her own social calendar straight, but b'god whatever she does, she'll really mean it
Choice B: dedicated statist-socialist
Given that these are the only options we're likely to get, I'm ready to give the airhead a try.
""Palin is an airhead. But consider: she just got paid more for a one hour speech than lots of people make in a whole year.""
That says more about the people that forked over the money than it does about her.
The truth is I want to see a woman in the White House.
Me too, cause, you know, that X-tra chromosome makes all the difference. If women ran the world, there would be no more wars.
There seem to be people who continue to argue this in spite of the records of Indira Gandhi, Golda Meir, Sirimavo Bandaranaike and Margaret Thatcher.
I've always liked feminist logic:
Assertion A: Men and women are the same. It is only cultural conditioning that makes them different.
Assertion B: If women ran the world instead of men, then the world would be a better place.
double plus good doublethink
"Men and women are the same" Don't be silly Sadistic Eristic. We are vastly superior
You are a man, then?
Let me quote an expert on the superiority of women:

Incidentally, there are a lot of women in the WH. Who do you think does all the cooking and cleaning and picks up the dog dirt?
I would send you a virtual slap but your name suggests you would enjoy it.
"Eristic" means "virtually masochistic"?
Boy, have I been wrong.
Sadistic: The Marquis de Sade
Even a libertarian woman
Especially a libertarian woman (unfortunately, as Kurt Vonnegut and others have pointed out, wanting to be president should disqualify a person for the job).
What do you suggest Art-P.O.G? Drawing straws?
It's too funny. In the late summer of 2008 when candidate John McCain announced his curious choice of a running mate, I immediately ran to the computer to do a google-search of the name, "Sarah Palin". I knew next-to-nothing about the woman other than the fact that she was the governor of Alaska. The first thing in her paper-thin biography that stood out for me was the date of her birth: February 11, 1964. I remember that day - distinctly! That was the day my beloved grandma, Loretta Doran Clements, died in South Bend, Indiana at the age of sixty-eight.
But other than that interesting coincidence there was not a heck of a lot in her biography that really stood out. Truth be told, I was more than a little puzzled as to why the GOP would think her an asset to the ticket. The moment she opened her mouth at her first campaign stop in Dayton, Ohio, I could only think of one thing:
Sally Field as "Gidget".
When someone like Sarah Palin can make it as far as she has, it can mean only one thing and it's not a particularly good sign: we are living in a culture that has been custom-tailored for idiots. When a person who can barely put two coherent sentences together without the aid of a teleprompter becomes one of the best-selling non-fiction authors of the decade, that's usually a pretty good indicator that society is spiraling downward at a fairly decent clip. Fasten your seat belts, kiddies!
I had always believed that Monty Python alumni Michael Palin was the funniest person in the world to bear that name. In fact it should be stated for the record that the two Palins are equally funny. The only difference is that Michael works very hard at it. Sarah's funniness, on the other hand, is purely accidental. The woman is a scream; the Buster Keaton of unintentional comedy.

... that people recognize that the media has been unkind in its portrayal of her and are curious to find out more about her.
Oops. I reread your snark about the teleprompter and authorship and it is obvious you were referring to Obama. Sorry.
Actually, I don't disagree with this statement.
But, I think it would be equally true if "Barak Obama" were substituted for "Sarah Palin".
