House Promise to Start Paygo Diet RIght After It Spends This $1.5 Trillion
Paygo, or pay-as-you-go budgeting, is back in fashion. But the House has found a way to make belt-tightening less painful: They're simply giving themselves loopholes worth $1.5 trillion in the new paygo rules. From today's Washington Post:
Congress agreed Thursday to revive the pay-as-you-go budget rules that helped wipe out massive deficits and balance the budget during the Clinton administration, although the new version includes a long list of exceptions that would permit Democrats to add at least $1.5 trillion to the nation's tab over the next decade.
This is the congressional equivalent of planning a binge on champagne and foie gras on New Year's Eve before starting a teetotaling, low-calorie year. Except in this case, the binge lasts ten years and then they'll think about dieting in 2020.

Donuts! Yumm!
Those doughnuts look like greasy shit.
Krispy Kreme was a fad, one I enjoyed, but Dunkin Donuts could never be replaced.
Are you kidding me? Dunkin Donuts is awful awful shit.
Oh, yeah? Where else is there to get donuts, besides the four dollar crunchy granola mom-and-pop pastry shit?
Fuck you, KK was doing God's work on Earth.
The only Krispy Kreme I can find anywhere now is their nasty grocery store shit. All of the locations close to me closed. Dunkin Donuts was here before them, and here after. I hear they have good, cheap coffee although I hate coffee. Their breakfast sandwiches are as good or better than McDonald's. I think the market has made its choice, however unfortunate that is for competition's sake.
Somehow these politicians truly believe in their hearts and minds that the people whose productive efforts are stolen by them are really "too dumb to understand" (quoting Barney Frank) and not feel offended by their chutzpah.
I believe they'll change their belief in November.
Can you lend me a trillion and a half so I can pay as I go? That works, doesn't it?
Caption Contest!
"Hey Nancy, if you like these donuts I'm showing you, wait until you get a load of the 'donut holder'!"
Jinx!
"Ooh, you're right! You can goose yourself!
"Wait a minute...you filled these cream doughnuts with what?"
Caption Contest: "Senator Pelosi (D-Mars) reacts to finally seeing Congressman Dingel's (D-Rustbelt) collection of 'dingelberries'."
MMMMMMM, Ring toss with Nancy.
"One more facelift and my mouth will be stuck open this far."
If everyone stopped paying taxes, this government would end.
We had to destroy the budget in order to save it.
Wow! I guess Obama really does shit donuts!
"Pelosi and Dingell delighted at the prototype environmentally sustainable product before them, made possible by generous green grants from the Obama administration: Soylant doughnuts."
Soylent Doughnuts are peoplicious!
What are they made of?
Drinking yourself sober does not usually work. "I'll quit using heroin right after the holidays" should not be believed.
In the 1800's in Britain, opium was a folk remedy taken to "sober up" from drinking. (In addition to its other uses, of course).
I suspect it was as effective as this pledge will be.
Prediction: This will be every bit as effective and forgotten as the Gramm-Rudman-Hollings Balanced Budget and Emergency Deficit Control Act of 1985. It's way past time for these feculent pieces of human detritus to start respecting their oaths of office. By any means necessary.
"Oooh, he grabbed my defeated-by-gravity boob behind this box of donuts! That sneaky boy!"
I have an idea, which is probably terrible but I'll put it out there.
People like low taxes and high government spending because they benefit from both, whereas they don't believe the deficits affect them.
Therefore to solve the endless budgetary problem, deficits have to have an impact on people.
To do this, a supplementary income tax will have to be levied on the people in whatever amount the deficit is for a given year. It can be imposed as a percentage of the tax previously paid.
This accomplishes two things that are vitally needed:
1. It does pay for the deficits incurred, which no other plan ever seems to accomplish.
2. It hopefully pisses off so many people that spending reduction might actually happen.
I like the idea.
Now, what kind of revolution will we have to fight in order to get it enacted?
We'll be Greece in no time.
It's all "PARTY DOWN, DOOD", until you come home and the Chinese have tossed all your stuff out on the curb.
We'll be Greece in no time.
Speaking of the Greeks, I would like to know how much of their current trouble is directly related to their "successful" bid to host the Olympics.
I seriously don't know how they pulled it off in time. I am sure it is a large part of the problem currently. It is a beautiful country with a massive history. But when I was there I had a conversation with some folks over the types of rules they have and it is insane! I mean we don't know dick about intrusive government here by comparison.
Spambot,
The Greeks were ruled by Socialists for a very long time.
Oh I know! They have a socialist president now and even with that can't talk their unions into doing what needs to be done to lower the debt. That is how you know they are screwed. If taxing your way into prosperity worked they would be the richest country in the world. Take good notes because this is us in a few years.
So true
pay-as-you-go budget rules that helped wipe out massive deficits and balance the budget during the Clinton administration
It helps to have a booming economy filling government coffers with record tax revenues, too.
"It helps to have a booming economy filling government coffers with record tax revenues, too."
This.
Here we see House Speaker Nancy Pelosi opening a box of testicles that she forgot she still had. With Cap and Trade and ObamaCare dead, she subsequently passed each pair back out to its respective "Blue Dog" member owner.
Paygo spelled backwards is taxes.
No thanks.
Deficit spending is taxes too, they just hold off on letting you feel the true cost of your government until it's far too late to do anything about it.
At least the taxes produced from paygo might create political pressure to cut spending from the "small government" types who think that you measure the size of a government by the highest marginal tax rate.
I am slightly amazed at the work of the interns in finding all these wonderful photos.
"would permit Democrats to add at least $1.5 trillion to the nation's tab"
At least?!
I honestly wish someone would torture and assassinate that worthless rat Nancy Pelosi.
That is all.
I had a BMW, and if anyone has had one you know that a constant problem is the appearance of the check engine light or service engine soon. Hopefully generic in all instances. I bought this small computer to find solutions to the annoying little light only to learn, the computer is worthless. It will give you generic little codes that correspond to the booklet, true, but will not turn off the tell-tell light on the dash.
@bestpriceforsales equus 3100 A constant problem is the fuel cap on the BMW when it gets loose from driving the light will turn on. This recently cost me a thousand dollars in trade in at the dealership cause the little light came on while trading the car in.
