Reason Writers Around Town: Shikha Dalmia on ObamaCare's Permanent Health Care Revolution
"I am not the first president to take up this cause [of health care reform], but I am determined to be the last one," President Barack Obama declared in September. But, notes Reason Foundation Senior Analyst Shikha Dalmia in her latest Forbes column, history will force the president to eat his smooth bravado if he signs anything resembling what's on the table right now.
Far from settling the issue once and for all, the bill will usher in even fiercer confrontations—not only on health care but on constitutional matters of governance as well—that will make the current battle look like the political equivalent of a spit-ball fight.

but I am determined to be the last one
Well, that's something to look forward to at least.
The last president? Does he plan to take the throne?
What? A kinder, gentler, NOT-SPEAKING-FORCELFULLY-IN-ALL-CAPS Urkobold? Must be an imposter...
Anon Bot continues to evolve.
That's why Obama will be the last president. Because AnonBot will become skynet before the next election.
the bill will usher in even fiercer confrontations
I sure as hell hope so, I'd love to see politicians ripping each others' throats out. It's even better when old people scream at them, like last summer.
We need to get Vince McMahon involved, then we'd have some great Townmeeting Brawl Action.
Bring back the Rock.
And C-Span's ratings would skyrocket.
Hey, if Linda McMahon wins Sen. Dodd's old seat, maybe she could arrange that.
Good god. Jesse Ventura, The Governator, and Linda McMahon.
We're talking epic throwdown action. Provided there was some gathering where Governors and Senators co-mingled.
I just heard some tape of a Russ Feingold (D-Wis.) town hall meeting from, I believe, the holiday break. He was catching unholy hell from his constituents on the healthcare abomination.
That's not the Urkobold. I happen to know that he's offline today, interviewing some new lab whores.
