Video: Why Climate Scientists Support Geoengineering Research
Ronald Prinn, a professor of atmospheric science and the director of the center for global change science at MIT, says why climate scientists have started to change their minds about geoengineering.

David Weigel can't hide the truth anymore. It's time you all knew what you've only suspected: Johnny Longtorso is my son. Yes, from me he inherited the fanatical hobby horse riding, conspiracy theories and threadjacking that runs in our family.
Repeat after me: YOU CANNOT JACK A LINKS THREAD!!!!!
How is a video from MIT a "conspiracy theory"?
A Climatology Conspiracy?

The CRU e-mails have revealed how the normal conventions of the peer review process appear to have been compromised by a team* of global warming scientists, with the willing cooperation of the editor of the International Journal of Climatology (IJC), Glenn McGregor. The team spent nearly a year preparing and publishing a paper that attempted to rebut a previously published paper in IJC by Douglass, Christy, Pearson, and Singer (DCPS). The DCPS paper, reviewed and accepted in the traditional manner, had shown that the IPCC models that predicted significant "global warming" in fact largely disagreed with the observational data.
We will let the reader judge whether this team effort, revealed in dozens of e-mails and taking nearly a year, involves inappropriate behavior, including (a) unusual cooperation between authors and editor, (b) misstatement of known facts, (c) character assassination, (d) avoidance of traditional scientific give-and-take, (e) using confidential information, (f) misrepresentation (or misunderstanding) of the scientific question posed by DCPS, (g) withholding data, and more....
"Up to 40 state unemployment compensation funds expected to go broke within two years."
This one will be fun to watch.
Payroll taxes... Yay...

Hey, don't forget that two more cops got shot in WA last night. I dread the siege mentality that's going to come of this.
The Crable guy sounds like a douchebag that deserved to die.
But, I do think you're right. The cops up there will "toughen up" in response. And worse, other agencies will do the same in response around the country.
It's weird how many cop shootings have taken place up here in the last two months or so. Seems to be an ongoing trend around here. Maybe Radley has too many readers in the Seattle area
This is a story of a woman that died while EMTs ignored her while on break. I posted it on another thread but believe it belongs here on an open thread.
Well, that's horrible. She left behind a 3 year old son as well. Even the union officials aren't standing behind them.

Idaho is borrowing money from the feds to pay jobless claims.
If some passengers wanted to get off a flight, ... At this time of year, the plane then may have to go through de-icing again
But if the plane is merely queued up for hours "at this time of year" it doesn't have to?
Depends on time. Deicing is good for a given period of time that depends on the type and rate of precipitation. And yes, it is possible that a second deicing may be required prior to takeoff after a long delay.
I guess the question is how often the additional delay caused by the de- and re-boarding will require re-de-icing. My guess is, there will be a small handful of additional de-icings.
And, of course, this should be handled by the free market. I can see Southwest now: Guaranteed de-boarding if your plane is delayed more than an hour! Our planes are planes, not prisons!
As long as they have available gates they could, something not always available at major airports.
If the pilot doesn't have clearance to get in line, why push back from the gate? The answer is almost always because they need that gate.
Wait, you mean they're not holding passengers on the tarmac just because they're greedy corporate bastards who like to make paying customers suffer? They have a real reason for it? NO WAY!!!!!
Go figure.
- Obama administration mulls steep fines for long delays that keep airline passengers on the tarmac.
Who get's the fine money? Shouldn't it be divvied up between the inconvenienced passengers?
Senate Democrats have warned the House not to tinker with their version, or else it might not get the necessary votes to clear the Senate a final time.
Damn.
We can balance the budget with airline late fees.
This won't have any effect on fares, will it?
Epi-
I couldn't even make it to the end of that article; it seems reasonable to assume that was actually an isolated incident.
But I'm sure the cops in your neighborhood will be operating under the assumption that everybody is a terrorist bushwacker.
I'm amazed (but glad) that they haven't accidentally killed someone yet because they thought a wallet was a gun.
I'm trying to decide whether you're being facetious or if you forgot about Amadou Diallo.
I think his comment was specific to the Seattle area.
The funny thing to me about the "Passenger Deplaning" thing is that passengers are trapped on planes as a result of myriad existing regulations on airline flight crew scheduling, airport gate use, etc. Not to mention the state's empowerment of the airlines to basically detain you at will.
It's a great example of how regulation pyramids itself on top of earlier bad regulation.
As if the captian wants to play round up the passengers when the tower finally gives him the go ahead to get in line.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking as i listened to this story on NPR this AM.
None of their coverage even considered that this was a problem of regulation and airport scheduling and far beyond the control of the airline and more particularly the captain of the plane invoved.
I mean, I'm sure that keeping people captive in a plane for eight hours (that's just the worst case, I guess most have been less) is something that airlines just love to do.
Obama gets his worst numbers yet in the Rasmussen daily tracking poll among likely voters: 44% approve, 56% disapprove, 25% strongly approve, 46% strongly disapprove.
It depends on who you ask:
http://blog.seattlepi.com/seat.....188931.asp
BTW, the comments section of that page do not require registration or anything. And there are lots of Obama lovers posting there. Just sayin'.
The organizations that poll all adults like CNN/Opinion Research always have better numbers for liberals and democrats than those that just ask likely or registered voters. They also tend to have bigger fluctuations in numbers from poll to poll.
Rasmussen has the best methodology by far in terms of trying to figure out the likely results of an upcoming election, and thus has been the most reliable of the bunch over the last few years.
I thought the reason for those long delays on the tarmac were either:
1) The air traffic controllers were too busy to let more planes in the air.
2) The airlines already face fines for late takeoffs as defined by the plane leaving the gate late. But if they sit on the tarmac, there is no fine.
It seems if Hopey McChange wants the airlines' behavior to change he should either get more controllers, or do away with the fine they already have in place. But that would result in less regulation, not more, so how could that be a solution?
Are you serious? Are you serious?
Thank God someone asked her that ToughQuestion and posted the resulting video...... 🙂
There's plenty of news updating one of those heartwarming Radley Balko posts
Grand jury clears police in shooting of GA Pastor.
Medals for bravery are probably forthcoming for "hero cops".
I am starting to regard Ice T as a prophet.
I gave cops the benefit of the doubt for 40 years. That shit is over.
Actually, I'm just talking about on a personal level. I've never taken their word for what goes down on the street.
What a terrible article. Was that written by a FOP member? Love that they fail to mention the cops jumped out of their vehicles with weapons drawn and didn't identify themselves. Nice character assassination at the end of the article, too. So what if he had sex with her. Wtf does that have to do with the incident?
Here's my bowl of corn flakes. Feel free to piss in it.
Is there ever any end in sight to this kind of shit? Seriously, what the hell can we do?
Dred Scott Redux: Obama and the Supremes Stand Up for Slavery
... in championing the lower court ruling, Barack Obama is now on record as believing -- insisting -- that torture is an ordinary, "foreseeable consequence" of military detention of all those who are arbitrarily declared "suspected enemy combatants."
And still further: Barack Obama has now declared, openly, of his own free will, that he does not consider these captives to be "persons." They are, literally, sub-humans. And what makes them sub-humans? The fact that someone in the U.S. government has declared them to be "suspected enemy combatants." (And note: even the mere suspicion of being an "enemy combatant" can strip you of your personhood.)...
Now we're talking:

San Jose police, under fire for interactions with the public that have turned violent, on Friday launched a pilot project equipping officers with head-mounted cameras to record contacts with civilians.
I wonder what the police union will have to say about this.
Representative Parker Griffith, first term democratic Congressman for the 5th district of Alabama, sees the writing on the wall and switches to the republican party.
I am officially predicting this race to become the nastiest in the history of the U.S. House of Representatives. I further predict that if the dems manage to run a candidate that is even slightly above average as candidates go, they will keep the seat democratic.
That's a safe prediction for any race.
I agree the race will be pretty nasty. Griffith today becomes the first republican to represent the district in 140 years.
If his democrat challenger beats him though, he's not going to be any Reid-Pelosi-Obama lefty socialist. This is a district that went 61% for McCain.
It will be interesting to see the ads showing the Rs that were bashing him as a dem. Will those Rs publicly support him now? There's gonna be mud flying every which way. I'm lookin forward to it.
His lack of efficacy trying to get Boeing more work for the local area will be a big topic
