The CRU e-mails have revealed how the normal conventions of the peer review process appear to have been compromised by a team* of global warming scientists, with the willing cooperation of the editor of the International Journal of Climatology (IJC), Glenn McGregor. The team spent nearly a year preparing and publishing a paper that attempted to rebut a previously published paper in IJC by Douglass, Christy, Pearson, and Singer (DCPS). The DCPS paper, reviewed and accepted in the traditional manner, had shown that the IPCC models that predicted significant "global warming" in fact largely disagreed with the observational data.

We will let the reader judge whether this team effort, revealed in dozens of e-mails and taking nearly a year, involves inappropriate behavior, including (a) unusual cooperation between authors and editor, (b) misstatement of known facts, (c) character assassination, (d) avoidance of traditional scientific give-and-take, (e) using confidential information, (f) misrepresentation (or misunderstanding) of the scientific question posed by DCPS, (g) withholding data, and more....

Depends on time. Deicing is good for a given period of time that depends on the type and rate of precipitation. And yes, it is possible that a second deicing may be required prior to takeoff after a long delay.

I guess the question is how often the additional delay caused by the de- and re-boarding will require re-de-icing. My guess is, there will be a small handful of additional de-icings.

The funny thing to me about the "Passenger Deplaning" thing is that passengers are trapped on planes as a result of myriad existing regulations on airline flight crew scheduling, airport gate use, etc. Not to mention the state's empowerment of the airlines to basically detain you at will.

It's a great example of how regulation pyramids itself on top of earlier bad regulation.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking as i listened to this story on NPR this AM.

None of their coverage even considered that this was a problem of regulation and airport scheduling and far beyond the control of the airline and more particularly the captain of the plane invoved.

I mean, I'm sure that keeping people captive in a plane for eight hours (that's just the worst case, I guess most have been less) is something that airlines just love to do.

The organizations that poll all adults like CNN/Opinion Research always have better numbers for liberals and democrats than those that just ask likely or registered voters. They also tend to have bigger fluctuations in numbers from poll to poll.

Rasmussen has the best methodology by far in terms of trying to figure out the likely results of an upcoming election, and thus has been the most reliable of the bunch over the last few years.

I thought the reason for those long delays on the tarmac were either:

1) The air traffic controllers were too busy to let more planes in the air.

2) The airlines already face fines for late takeoffs as defined by the plane leaving the gate late. But if they sit on the tarmac, there is no fine.

It seems if Hopey McChange wants the airlines' behavior to change he should either get more controllers, or do away with the fine they already have in place. But that would result in less regulation, not more, so how could that be a solution?
