Ron Hart on Palin & Oprah; And His New Collection of Cols

|

Columnist Ron Hart on Sarah Palin and Oprah Winfrey:

Contrary to what many think, Oprah and Sarah have something in common: they both helped Barack Obama get elected. But when Gov. Palin was asked if she would be campaigning to become the leader of the free world in 2012, she seemed uncomfortable — maybe because the current, self-appointed leader of the free world was sitting right there.

Sarah Palin has done at least one thing of value.

She has helped to unmask the left-winged media as a harsh, partisan and manipulative group bent on advancing its own ideology. She may keep the media distracted while the GOP desperately searches for its next real Ronald Reagan. Sadly, at this point I have no idea who that is.

Whole thing here.

Hart's collected cols are now available in No Such as a Pretty Good Alligator Wrestler: Kids, Politics, and Family—Why Daddy Drinks. Along with PJ O'Rourke, Bernie Marcus (co-founder of Home Depot), and Bob Johnson (founder of BET), I was happy to blurb the book, writing

…Hart is one asset that has soared in value over the past decade of partisan misrule. He is the Alan Greenspan of political columnists—he keeps the interest rate dangerously low.

You can buy the book here.

  1. Ooh, sockpuppets!

  2. “He is the Alan Greenspan of political columnists?he keeps the interest rate dangerously low. suuuuuuuuucks!

  3. Contrary to what many think, Oprah and Sarah have something in common: they both helped Barack Obama get elected.

Interesting assertion – I thought it was that people were fed up with Bush and his policies, but I guess Palin is the culprit for our woes.

  4. I think Palin was probably a net plus for McCain. He had very little shot which was what forced the hail mary pass to Palin in the first place.

  5. “She helped to unmask the left-wing media…”

Doesn’t he mean continued the decades-long GOP strategy of bitching about the so-called left-wing media?

    1. Yes. I mean no.

    2. The media sucks Obama’s cock harder than you do, Tony.

Only a retard would say they aren’t biased.

      1. eh who cares…the left-wing MSM really is far weaker then it was in it glory days of news anchors saying plutonium is the most toxic substance in the “”!!!””UNIVERSE””!!!””

        *Echoes

There are obvious left wing news organizations and most are dying a fun to watch slow death, and there is ample competition now to counter it.

By the way the left wing media and Palin did not get Obama elected; Bush did.

        1. The media sure helped. I don’t have the study in front of me, but it basically showed that the news coverage by the MSM of Obama was like 70% positive compared to 30% positive for McCain.

    3. Tony’s right – there has never been any evidence of left-wing bias by the MSM.

      Signed,
      Dan Rather

  6. She may keep the media distracted while the GOP desperately searches for its next real Ronald Reagan.

Palin did a big book signing at Books-a-million in Birmingham today. That was followed by a visit from Huckabee to the same store. I’m thinking that Sarah has found her new Reagan.

    1. Did she invite Huckabe? Did she have anything to do with him coming there? Or was Huckabe just sucking up some publicity? I don’t quite get what you are saying.

    2. Or maybe Hucakbee has found his. Who followed whom?

    3. Yeah, as if Nanny Huckabee comes close to Reagan. Not a chance.

  7. If Hart is a smart guy, he didn’t reveal it in this collumn. All he said was the leftist media is a bunch of jackasses and then made a bunch of sexist comments about how he would like to fuck Palin.

Yeah, that is some real profound stuff there. Why does Reason have such low standards?

    1. John,

How many guy don’t want to fuck Tia Fey Sarah Palin?

  8. “She has helped to unmask the left-winged media as a harsh, partisan and manipulative group bent on advancing its own ideology.”

Totally agree. She pisses off all the right people.

  9. She has helped to unmask the left-winged media as a harsh, partisan and manipulative group bent on advancing its own ideology.

well to be fair it is the left-wing media and Tim.

He really has it out for Palin. What is up with that anyway? Did Tim live in Alaska or something?

  10. “Contrary to what many think, Oprah and Sarah have something in common: they both helped Barack Obama get elected.”

I think McCain’s general awfulness at the top of the ticket had more to do with Obama’s victory than whatever Palin’s perceived shortcomings were. The fact that conservatives types still like her and do not have much use for McCain now shows that.

  11. She has helped to unmask the left-winged media as a harsh, partisan and manipulative group bent on advancing its own ideology

The media is not “left-wing”, it’s pro oligarchy. The media was unquestioning in its support for the war in Iraq, the war against Yugoslavia, Haiti, Afghanistan, etc. The media is scared to death to challenge the military. The media is also consistently supportive of policies that drive lower and middle class wages down – that’s hardly a traditionally socialist position. The media consists mostly of people in the upper middle class and they support policies that benefit the upper middle class – globalization, feel good social policies, immigration, and bailouts for their peers. It’s that simple. The media’s disdain for people in flyover country does not make them automatically “left wing”, it’s an important distinction.

  12. The local paper has a story this a.m. that says Palin was at the bookstore saturday night and Huckabee was there Sunday afternoon for a book signing of his new book A Simple Christmas.

The info I posted last night was wrong. I repeated what was reported on a local radio station during a news segment. I didn’t intend any deception. I did, however, intend to suggest that the timing of their appearances was not a coincidence.

  13. This is brilliant. Slate readers attack Palin for a passage from her book…turns out passage was from Obama. lol

  14. We have Hart’s columns in our paper and folks love him.

Must be a few frustrated and published writers whining in here. Oh well, at least you are published now.

  15. Yo-landa, do you not mean “collumns” as John said?

I too like Hart and his humor. Seems there are two always on his blog that want to take cheap shots.

Sad and silly as it may be, they offer nothing.

  16. I would like to do Palin too. Without her good looks she would be a nothing.

As Hart pointed out, we have already elected a telegentic politician who is over his head. No need to follow BO with Palin.

    Ron Paul!!!!

  17. I totally dig Ron Hart too.

Humor and intellect, an adorable combination.

  18. Wonderful column.

Who writes political satire now better than Ron Hart? No one.
