I for one always miss Bill Clinton, even though I never voted for him and mostly disliked him in office. (This happens to me with every U.S. president, and may even happen some day with George W. Flightsuit.) Anyway, Bubba went to Capitol Hill today to rally support for Obamacare, and said these things:
Clinton argued that even "the most cold-hearted person" ought to support health care reform simply from an economic standpoint. He reminded Democrats of the political momentum their failure to pass reform in 1993 delivered the House of Representatives to the Republicans the following year.
"The point I want to make is: just pass the bill, even if it's not exactly what you want," Clinton told Democrats. "When you try and fail the other guys write history."
Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) said Clinton described the ongoing tea party protests against the Democratic agenda as a sign his party was making progress.
Whitehouse quoted Clinton arguing: "The reason the tea-baggers are so inflamed is because we are winning."
Clinton's overall message was one the Obama administration has tried to make: not passing a bill is the worst thing Democrats could do.
"So it's not important to be perfect here, it's important to act, to move, to start the ball rolling, to claim the evident advantages that all these plans agree with and whatever they can get the votes for I'm gonna support," Clinton said he told the senators. "I think it is good politics to pass this and to pass this as soon as they can. But I think the most important thing is it is the right thing for America. The worst thing to do is nothing."

Progress toward what - turning the entire country into a giant gulag?
Democrats give one another trophies for an event they call Landmark Legislation. No matter what the long term effect on the rest of society, these trophies mean everything to them. It is there version of an alpha dog trait, and defines them as winners the way economic prosperity and social status defines success for normal people.
If this bill wasn't such an unreversable historic disaster, I really wish they would pass it. That why when they get destroyed in the 2010 and 2012 elections, leftists wouldn't be able to claim that it was all because they weren't left enough.
As it is the Senate is going to kill this thing and the left will claim it wasn't their fault when the Dems get destroyed in 2010.
I have good insurance, so I'm inclined against both Obamacare and any single payer system. But as a political matter I would think single payer would at least have the advantage of being able to be described in a few sentences. Obama and Clintoncare are big fat sitting ducks because they are these strange 1500 page things.
I mean honestly, I have little idea wtf Obamacare entails. It seems to have health exchanges, whatever the hell that is. And some kind of mandate. And a "public option" or "trigger" or whatever. Really, how in the hell do you sell that?
Really? Its that simple? It covers everyone ? How about visiting foreigners? Does it cover rinoplasty? How about stomach stapling? Lipo? Laser eye surgery?
Its not as simple as you make it sound. Which is why its a collosal disaster waiting to happen. And why its largely supported by people who don't realize just how complicated an issue it is.
It is so much more than that. The damn thing calls for the creation of upteen new boards and commissions with oodles of new authority to do just about everthing under the sun.
Clinton's full of crap on this, anyway. He'd do now what he did then: Run for cover by shifting dramatically rightwards in anticipation of the next election.
Bill has a Medusa Touch with his faint praise for things he doesn't really care about. This late and pro forma endorsement from him is the first sign that I've seen that the momentum might be turning against health care reform.
The Republican take over in 1994 was the best thing that ever happened to Bill Clinton. With out the Republicans in congress he could never had his famous triangulation strategy. If the liberals democrats controlled the congress he would tied to their agenda. With the democratic congress his agenda was tax hikes and health care. With a republican congress the agenda was spending cuts Gingrich wanted more cuts Clinton wanted less and the result was spending was flat during the 1990's. He passed welfare reform and distanced him self from Unions. He passed the worlds largest free trade deal and deregulated telecom and financial sectors. and finally he cut the capital gains tax by 33%
So lets add this up spending cuts welfare reform deregulation free trade and tax cut = Reaganomics...

Just a bunch of deadenders. We've turned a corner. The tea parties are in their last throes.
The Democrats are not in their last throes at all! Corzine has not been deposed in New Jersey! The war is over and we have won! The teabagger infidels are committing mass suicide in the streets of Washington DC!
Harrumph!
Pass the bill, leave the Hill. Pass the bill, leave the Hill.

Shorter Clinton: It doesn't matter what you do as long as you do what I tell you.
I wonder who Clinton's teabagging now?
Never mind I know.
Do you think Clinton is one of those people who really doesn't know what teabagging means, or he does but he still thinks it's funny?
Of course Billy Clint knows what teabagging is. Guy's a horndog and a former Rhodes Scholar.
Shows they give Rhodes scholarships to any cum-guzzling shit-eater.

Oh! (giggle) That just tickles like crazy when you peasants kiss my feet like that.
Bill was a little too conservative for my tastes.
Not to mention his siege of the Branch Davidians resembled Israeli tactics in Gaza!
"As you know, you go to the floor with the bill you have, not the bill you might want or wish to have at a later time"
I like having William around, he could really derail the whole political progress of this bill.
+1

John
Most people on the left wanted a straight up single payer system. They are not big fans of what's going on.
That's statism, straight up.
Hey, I'm just telling you what they preferred.
I'm just making a joke.
True. No matter what they get, they will claim it wasn't enough and if only the program had been further left everything would have been great.

Just like the income tax.
Yeah, well, as a political matter the income tax does very well...
You have good insurance for now.
Once the distortions start to take hold, things are likely to change.
Just like Communism!
Or libertarianism!
WTF was that supposed to even mean?
Communism would have worked with the right people in charge.
I still have no idea what you mean.
Incorrect. No such people exist.
I mean honestly, I have little idea wtf Obamacare entails. It seems to have health exchanges, whatever the hell that is. And some kind of mandate. And a "public option" or "trigger" or whatever. Really, how in the hell do you sell that?
I'd prefer that they put nationalized healthcare on the table. At least then we could have the real debate.
I took that to be the same thing. Government covers everyone, we pay for it with taxes.
See, it's at least simple to describe...
They can call it whatever they want, just so long as they are clear about what it is.

They did that on the state level with Hawaii

First do no harm -- if the country really wants and needs health care reform it will happen eventually.
There is no driving need to do it now other than to avoid an apparent failure by the majority party in both chambers.
To paraphrase Clinton, the most important thing for the democratic party is to save face so that they have political clout in the next election cycle.
I don't think I've ever disliked Clinton more than I do right now.
Do or do not... there is no try."
Clinton's full of crap on this, anyway. He'd do now what he did then: Run for cover by shifting dramatically rightwards in anticipation of the next election.
God willing, Bill's efforts will push ObamaCare forward just like they propelled his wife to the Presidency.

I don't miss Bill, because it doesn't feel like he's ever left.

"Did You Miss Bill Clinton?"
Yes I did, but you don't have to call me Miss.
Caption: So I said, "Well then let's launch a cruise missile strike on a pharmaceuticals plant in Khartoum. Ha, ha, ha!"
That picture was taken roughly eight minutes after Clinton first discovered bash.org.
Did you miss Bill Clinton?
Hell no. Got her right there on that damn blue dress. That was at a pretty fair distance too.
"Quick Elvis impersonation..."

The fools will lap this up. He would piss me off if he wasn't such an object of ridicule among anyone with an ounce of class.
In his autobiography, Clinton acknowledged that it was the assault weapons ban, not "failing to deliver on health care", that killed the Dems in 1994.
It's one thing to revise history -- quite another to revise the history that you yourself once wrote.
"The reason the tea-baggers are so inflamed is because we are winning."
Luckily, once the public option is established, they can get their inflamed teabags examined at "no" cost.
I miss the 90s. Does that count? It wasn't about the deficit or the wars, it was all about who was teabegging the president this time.
"The worst thing to do is nothing."
OMG, he got that right. It is SO BOOORING!!

Don't confuse NAFTA with a "free trade" deal.

haha Bill Clinton is such a dumb ass. In general, anyone who wants to spend another 1.4 million is a dumb ass. Thank god for the fillabuster.
This teabaggee bitch is lucky he has SS protection.
Of course I miss the 90's. I know exactly what they were.
I see a SS visit to JB in the very near future.

Reform? Absolutely. Increasing governmental meddling in the industry? HELL NO.
