Where are the Bolsheviks when you need them?

  2. de stijl   16 years ago

I wish it was called "capo" instead.

What was the first instance of an American issue czar? (Federal level)

  3. Jaybird   16 years ago

    And the danegeld is paid.

    For now.

More czars than there are in heaven!

My reading of Russian history leads me to conclude one would be sufficient to outnumber the czars in heaven.

  5. EJM   16 years ago

Where are the Bolsheviks when you need them?

"Drug Czar Toppled By Drug Bolsheviks"

    (OK, so it's from 2007.)

  6. sixstring   16 years ago

    You're gonna be czarry!

  7. Tim   16 years ago

We have some difficulties in our relations with Russia. We need a czar to coordinate our diplomatic efforts with Russia. We need a Russian czar.

  8. JW   16 years ago

    Three.

Wait, that's how many licks to the center of a Tootsie Pop?. Never mind.

  9. Forbes   16 years ago

So cabinet secretaries have become something like the practice squad--not good enough to make the real team, and gets beat upon for the privledge of hanging out with the stars...

  10. tassawwuf   16 years ago

at this point, i nominate we just appoint the last Czarnian to clean up Washington...bonus, he's already a resident of DC...

  11. de stijl   16 years ago

    Found the czar backgrounder (wiki).

Short answer : war time FDR and then revived by Nixon with Energy Capo... sorry, Energy Czar.

  12. Hopester   16 years ago

    Are the Czars out tonight?
I don't know if it's cloudy or bright.
I Only Have Eyes For You, Dear.

  13. The Libertarian Guy   16 years ago

"Capo" works better, given the Chicago thug politician mindset now running the show...

Other metaphors could include "minions", though that would be more applicable to the SEIU gangstas intimidating people at the townhalls.

More: autocrat, despot, leader, ruler, king... and the ever-popular much, much more.

As I've said all along, we need a czar czar.

  16. de stijl   16 years ago

As I've said all along, we need a czar czar.

Wouldn't "capo di tutti capi" sound way cooler?

  17. troy   16 years ago

We have some difficulties in our relations with Russia. We need a czar to coordinate our diplomatic efforts with Russia. We need a Russian czar.

    [Spit-take]

  18. Guy Smiley   16 years ago

    There's a "God Czar"?

I assume he regulates God, and God's salary.

  19. pistoffnick   16 years ago

    How about a Ta-czar?

One who would keep tabs on the police use of "non-lethal" electrical weapons.

  20. coyote1284   16 years ago

It's an American thing. We can't go around calling our heads of these departments "Ministers". That'd sound like we had religious leaders running our government and we can't have that. Besides, "Czar" sounds more flashy than "Director".
