Happy Birthday Friedrich Hayek!
Thanks to Ilya Somin for noting that today is Friedrich Hayek's 110th birthday. Why not celebrate by reading Nick Gillespie's great interview with Hayek biographer Bruce Caldwell, Jonathan Rauch on what Hayek can teach us about gay marriage, and Thomas Hazlett's 1992 interview with the man himself.
Correction: Many thanks to Steven Horwitz for pointing out that Hayek's birthday is not today. It is May 8th.

The President and Congress needs to step up to the plate and design a properly-coordinated national birthday celebration for Hayek, because otherwise these celebrations would be left to the inefficiencies of the private marketplace.

For this bunch, I would think burning him in effigy along with as many copies of The Road to Serfdom as they could find would be about right. It’s about as much respect as they’ve shown any of his ideas.
Everyone, repeat after me: IT IS NOT HAYEK’S BIRTHDAY. His birthday is May 8th, which would be Friday. (See both Wikipedia and the aforementioned Hayek biography by Caldwell.)
I commented on Ilya’s original post but Damon must have not read the comments.
Doesn’t anyone check sources anymore? 🙂
Today is Karl Marx’s birthday, however. He’s pretty much the same as Hayek though so, you know, same difference.
Cinco de Ocho!
