By all accounts (including his own), President Barack Obama had a great time during his recent trip to France. And elite opinion at places ranging from Newsweek to The Economist to the Brookings Institution is urging Obama to make America more like France and Europe.
Should the United States become the next France, a land of high taxes, regulation, and government spending? And, not uncoincidentally, comparatively low economic growth?
In "Obama's French Toast: Just Say Non," Sorbonne-trained economist Veronique de Rugy of the Mercatus Center at George Mason University argues that embracing the French way would be nothing less than a train wreck, leaving Americans with fewer jobs and less disposable income.
"Obama's French Toast" is a co-production of Reason.tv and the Center for Freedom & Prosperity.
Written and produced by Meredith Bragg and Nick Gillespie. Approximately three minutes long.

I only glanced at part of it without sound, but does she understand the difference between the titular breakfast food and a toast to France?
Also, one frame of the video is of a march/strike of some kind. Aren't a good part of France's problems due to MassiveImmigration, something that de Rugy's fellow travelers encourage in the U.S.? Didn't even John McCain warn about Paris-style riots in the U.S. due to MassiveImmigration?
On a hilarious note, guess who's on the board of de Rugy's Center at George Mason University. Go on, guess. To confirm your guess, click here.
I finally understand now: LoneMoron is Travis Bickle.

I knew there was a reason I don't read the Economist.
Europe would certainly like it if America became more like Europe. Then they wouldn't feel so bad about their own economic stagnation and everything that goes with it.
...um, is this really hit & run, or am I reading The Onion by mistake.....
I have been your post a few days, and I like, I will often concern.
Veronique de Rugy is an anorexic right-wing fanatic, but I'll take her over that self-important twit Nick Gillespie any day.
Do you fucking libertarians ever have any doubts about the faith?
shut the fuck up Lonewacko.
The U.S. becoming like France would be really good for a certain group of people. It would be great for the media, who would not doubt get cultural subsidies to save their failing asses. It would be great for government bureaucrats who would get more power and job security. It would be great for big corporations who would be shielded from foreign competition and subsidized by the government. Essentially, it would be great for everyone who already has theirs.
It would be a disaster for immigrants, the poor, the small business man and the middle class. Since Obama and his supporters don't really give a shit about those people and in many cases actively loath them, for Obama that is a feature not a bug.
iPod or iPod-like device
You mean an mp3 player? Or is there a specific category of players that are simply iPod clones?
Welcome back, Lefiti, er, Jean Luc! Now fuck off and die in a fire.
Do you fucking libertarians ever have any doubts about the faith?
We are still waiting for the arrival of facts to dispute our confidence in the superiority of free minds and free markets, Jean Luc.
Silly RC. the economic superiority of PDRC over Hong Kong 1950-1998 should have proven the superiority of government planning once and for all.
D Rugy's voice is even more sexy than her name.
the economic superiority of PDRC East Germany over Hong Kong West Germany 1950-1998 should have proven the superiority of government planning once and for all.
the economic superiority of PDRC North Korea over Hong Kong South Korea 1950-1998 should have proven the superiority of government planning once and for all.

So why do you think you have the right to comment when you didn't even listen to it? Even If I agree with you, you are an incompetent jerk ! Sorry to devolve into the normal liberal name calling procedure.
