Visit the Fabulous Beaches of Guantanamo Bay!
Apparently not an April Fools joke:
Caracas-born [Miss Universe] Dayana Mendoza, 22, who visited the [Guantanamo Bay] facility with Miss USA Crystle Stewart, 27, enthused about her Guantanamo trip as an "incredible experience" in a blog entry posted on the Miss Universe website dated March 27, 2009.
"It was a loooot of fun!," Ms Mendoza wrote, describing how she and Ms Stewart met US military personnel and took rides around the camp, which is encircled by a barbed-wire fenced, minefields and watchtowers.
She said they also visited a bar on the base and the "unbelievable" beach there.
"We visited the Detainees camps and we saw the jails, where they shower, how the(y) recreate themselves with movies, classes of art, books. It was very interesting," she wrote.
"I didn't want to leave, it was such a relaxing place, so calm and beautiful," she added.
Yemeni doctor and detainee Ayman Saeed Batarfi agreed, saying, "Yeah man, I'm bummed I have to go."
(Actually, Batarfi probably really is a little bummed, since no country is willing to take him. All countries are willing to take Miss Universe.)

Is "waterboarding" a slang term for a degraded sex act (Episiarch?). Cuz insert that joke here. On her face.
But did she poop in the woods?
The delectable dame pictured above is:
(a) Pro Lib's paramour;
(b) just another character conceived by MNG in one of his countless deserted island hypotheticals;
(c) The Libertarian Goddess of Lust; or
(d) the reason why we no longer hear from Joe.
Do we really need more posts chronocling the vacuity and vapidity of beauty contestent's minds?
The beach is nice.
If you caught Joe on the wrong day, he would take a swipe at you for making a comment like I did in the previous post. To be fair, there would be other days when such a post would elicit a comical reply from him.
Yeah, I misspelled chronicling. Sue me.
What's not to love? The sun, the sand, the electric needle room..
She's from Venezuela; what do you expect?
oh well you cant expect a beauty queen to have anything larger than a rice grained size brain can you
"It's just poster paint and oatmeal."
"oh well you cant expect a beauty queen to have anything larger than a rice grained size brain can you"
She was also kidnapped and held for ransom in Caracas as a child. She hates Hugo Chavez's guts. It's partly why she agreed to go to Gitmo and do so in a public way. It's a chance for her to stick her finger in the Dear Wood Tick's eye.
Pretty bright lady if you ask me.
Reminds me when I was up on the DMZ in Korea.
The L.A. Laker cheerleaders paid us a visit and went on the tour of the Joint Security Area. That is the area where all the negotiations where held. The whole area of course is manned by armed guards on a high level of alert. Several armed instances have happened over the years.
When the cheerleaders were done I remember one of them commented "I didn't think the place would be so formal."
Oh great. We are now at the point where we might be releasing some of these prisoners and the gov't goes and parades this nearly naked woman in front of them as a reminder of why they hate the west. The prisoners probably expected a few random beat downs and some electrodes on the genitalia, but this is a deliberate insult to their religious sensibilities - it just crosses a line in the sand that should not have been crossed.
So anyway, if a guy wanted to see some better pics of Ms. Mendoza, is there a subscription-based website or something he might be able to go to?
The nicest beach I've ever been to was on an air force base in Panama City, Florida.
OMG, was it beautiful. White sand, extended out for several hundred meters into the aquamarine water.
Completely deserted except for a few air force personel jogging.
Absolutely no commercial activity whatsoever.
A half mile of dunes covered with dune-grass before you see the water.
Oh. My. God. I think I'll just go there in my brain now.
I forgot to mention the dolphins. And the sea shells.
La Senorita de la Universidad was there to cheer up American troops, not to taunt detainees, and, yes, Katie missed half the joke because she did go there to piss off Commandante Hugo, thus striking a twisted blow for freedom. And, yes, it would have been better if she had worn her "Viva la Geneva Convention" tee-shirt, as I had suggested.
Hey! I don't have paramours--I'm very happily married to Mrs. Libertate, who is not Venezuelan but is half-Colombian. Besides, Mrs. Libertate is babe-a-licious in her own right.
"[T]he(y) recreate themselves with movies, classes of art, books." They recreate themselves? "Go 'way, recreatin'!"
Jeez < or was it >
I was just extending the stereotype into the conversation. I did not do a history of the woman. I am sure she is great. I was being sarcastic and stereotyping.
"Oh. My. God. I think I'll just go there in my brain now."
Don't forget to include the huge magnolias.
You guys are on fire today!
And, yes, it would have been better if she had worn her "Viva la Geneva Convention" tee-shirt, as I had suggested.
Especially since I seem to recall that Gitmo has been certified as Geneva-compliant. By the Red Cross, or somebody.
I bet she also thinks Obama is sooooo dreamy and is an awesome American president.
Every country tortures its enemies. When they have information you need to save your citizens, you do it and make up lies later.
Come on back into reality, people. Morality-land is far, far away.
"I bet she also thinks Obama is sooooo dreamy and is an awesome American president."
Aren't you that Avaricream girl from yesterday?
"Especially since I seem to recall that Gitmo has been certified as Geneva-compliant. By the Red Cross, or somebody."

The International Committee of the Red Cross found "cruel, inhumane and degrading" treatment of detainees at the U.S. military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, during inspections there last summer, and issued a formal report in July that said some interrogation tactics come close to torture, a source who has seen portions of the report said yesterday.
The human rights group decried tactics used on some detainees -- including severe temperatures, loud music and other sounds, the sharing of medical information with interrogators, and forced nudity -- that it said violate international rules against torture adopted by the United States and other countries."
Could it be that Venezeula is just that bad in comparison to everything else?
Either that, or I have to take her word on this (since she's been there and I haven't, and I have yet to figure a credible reason for her to lie.)
Wait till the red cross sees the horror that goes on at my college. All that and more. Don't forget forced sleep deprivation. The nudity is voluntary though I admit.
I'm sick of the superstar treatment these Gitmo detainees get! White shoe law frims sign up to be their pro-bono defense attorneys, visits from Ms. Universe. Sheesh! How many dimebags do I have to sell to be treated that nicely?
Hazel Meade, I was lucky enough to grow up near there and I know the exact place you're talking about. The color of the sea, sky, and sunset combined with being able to see for miles in each direction is unforgettable. When I was in high school I actually built some of the sand fences on Tyndall AFB property.
