1968 Was a Very Good Year. Make 2008 an Even Better One by Supporting Reason Now!
Some good things that happened in 1968: LBJ announced he wouldn't run for reelection; Hair opened up on Broadway, sounding the death knell for hippies; Bob Beaman won the long jump at the Mexico City Olympics in a phenomenal record-setting performance; The Beatles released what became known as The White Album.
Some notable births in 1968: Lucy Lawless, Tony Hawk, Traci Lords, Vanilla Ice, and reason magazine.
Since that first issue of reason appeared 40 years ago, one of our hallmarks—whether in print, online, or video—has been to offer a true libertarian alternative that challenges and transcends the conventional, played-out politics of right vs. left, liberal vs. conservative, Kang vs. Kodos.
That's why we're surely the only magazine that's been praised by both Rush Limbaugh ("a magazine for everybody….a good, good magazine") and Bill Moyers ("Month in and month out, you won't read a smarter magazine").
Please give what you can today to help us blast through the next 40 years, championing "Free Minds and Free Markets" and taking no prisoners in political, cultural, and journalistic battles. reason is the only outlet where you'll see consistent defenses of gay rights and gun rights, nanotechnology and free trade, the First Amendment and the 10th Amendment, and much, much more. If it's about freedom, we're all over it like…Joe Biden on a gaffe or lipstick on a pitbull.
Like no one else, reason challenges the settled views of conservatives and liberals like Limbaugh and Moyers, and we help create the next generation of libertarians through our principled case for individual liberty in all aspects of human activity.
So please give what you can (go here to make a tax-deductible donation and see what sort of swag comes with various giving levels).
And click below to learn how I first read reason in high school and learned two great lessons about freedom and government that are more relevant now than ever.
Thanks for your support.

I'm already spending money I don't have on b - on essential needs, and I'm not going to spend even more on Reason (at least at this time), but I will offer the benefit of my advice. Why not charge extra for access to certain parts of your Web site, or for early access to content?
If you object to that, have an outfit called "Friends of Reason," sell memberships, and give members special discounts, coupons, free whiskey courtesy of the Distilled Spirits Council, etc? Maybe you already have something like this, and now is a good time to plug it.
I love Hit & Run articles, but V-Ice may already be 40. There are contradicting birth locations and dates.

I support reason with page hits and my presence. Isn't that enough?
Epi-
What about your witty observations? How about your gentle, yet constructive, criticisms of Reason's scriveners? The epic battles with Joe? Your science fiction exchanges with Elemenope?
Yeah, mike, that's what I'm talking about! I deserve a cut, not requests for handouts!
You should be payin' for this kind of exposure, Epi. A chance to grow your brand.
I was born in 1968 and no, despite the rumors, I am not Luci Lawless.
You should be payin' for this kind of exposure, Epi. A chance to grow your brand.
Let's call it even, then.
I wanted to point out how ridiculous the AIG bailout was. AIG posted a
dividend on 9/3/2008 and got money from the federal reserve 2 or 3
days later. We should all be so lucky as to suck Warren Buffet's dick.
Now the FBI is going to "investigate" companies that shorted during
the bailout. Feel free to join my group at

Subject: What year and where was V-Ice born?
vanilla ice was masterful in that ninja turtles movie.
His beats were ill. I believe his principles could lead us to better economic times in '09.
V-Ice '08: Stop, Collaborate, & Listen
Advice: if you have anything in common with Vanilla Ice, the proper response is embarrassed throat-clearing and a hasty change of subject, NOT a blog post bragging about it.
Here's what you should've written: "Some notable births in 1968: Lucy Lawless, Tony Hawk, Traci Lords -- um, there's probably another celebrity or two but I can't quite recall at the moment, cough cough -- and reason magazine."
That's funny, most people remember 1968 as a year of extreme social turbulence, a brutal war fought by enslaved men for no clear purpose, and increasing political violence.
I love reason, but trying to paint 1968 as a great year is kind of silly. Even the hippies started to crash and burn in 1968.
On the plus side- some men circled the moon. That was cool.
I subscribed to Reason many years ago, and I might have contributed today if not for Reason's concerted effort to scuttle the Ron Paul campaign.
Reason got way too cozy with the Ruling Party, and it's led to asinine articles like "The Libertarian case for McCain" and "The Libertarian case for Obama". Give me a fucking break.

Reason's concerted effort to scuttle the Ron Paul campaign.
Reporting the truth == scuttling the campaign?
Yay Lucy Lawless! 😛
The pop-up eliminated my inclination to give money. And I would have done so otherwise.
1968 was the year we elected Nixon. We'll do better than that this year.
I will donate if Reason changes it's motto:
