You Can't Spell "Revolt" Without "EVO backwards L"

Today's "Ron Paul supporters rubbing listless regular Republicans' faces in the dirt" story comes from Nevada.

They seemed to make up more than half of the 1,300 or so state delegates to the convention. They won a key procedural vote on the rules, and their boisterous presence created significant delays, causing the convention chairman, Bob Beers, a state senator from Las Vegas, to recess the convention without selecting delegates to the national convention. The state convention is to resume at a later date.

This isn't as simple a story as the Missouri Paulite rEVOLution, as Paul's Nevada campaign was one of his best, and he actually beat John McCain for second place in the January caucus. (Mitt Romney won overall.) There are from-the-scene reports on the Ron Paul forums.

At the beginning of the Convention the State GOP/McCain campaign tried to limit who could be considered delegates. This prompted a floor fight that went on for hours. The record crowd wondered why they were there if the people to be voted on were already predetermined.

Already the 3 congressional districts have gone (3 delegates for each Congressional District) One district has awarded all 3 to Ron Paul, the second district went, One for Ron Paul, One for John McCain and One for NV. US Senator John Ensign and the third congressional district is unknown since the convention authorities won't tell.

The Reno Gazette-Journal chalks it up to a wheezing, out-of-shape party.

Gov. Jim Gibbons has been beleaguered by a host of missteps since his election in 2006. And neither U.S. Rep. Jon Porter of Henderson, whose daughter was getting married, or U.S. Sen. John Ensign showed up to the convention.

"There's no elected official that really unites the party," Herzik said. "The Republicans in this state are just not hitting on all cylinders."

Speaking of poor organization, the actual, national RP campaign (which told journalists that their Nevada organizer was available for interviews, but did not actually have his phone number) is debating what to do with its remaining $4 million. The most popular (if not most legal) idea: A publishing house.

It still cracks me up to see how winning a straw poll creates the assumption that you've actually won something. I guarantee when the MN state convention takes place next month, it'll be packed with Paul supporters. I was at the district caucus and about half of our 16 delegates to the state convention were Paul supporters. Luckily, I ended up at the bottom of the list of alternates and have a good excuse for skipping out. 🙂

In my various posts here I argued that Paul was fund raising for something other than a presidential campaign. He simply wasn't spending as if he was seriously running for the presidency. I said Paul's original intention was to raise funds for his Congerssional race and then divert all remaining funds to projects that he'd run after his last term in office. I always believed Paul was engaging in old fashioned bait and switch: donate to my presidential campaign so I can spend your money in other ways later. The Rondroids were a bunch of true believers and no one wanted to believe me at the time. I wonder if they are now starting to see what was obvious all along.

The funniest part about this is that the vast majority of RP's supporters basically fit the young, stupid, and/or nerd profile and have no clue about how things work.

If any RP supporters get a clue, they'll go negative and start trying to discredit RP's opponents. None of the ardent RP supporters have been able to figure that out.

And, rather than going to Hillary's appearances and launching into a ten minute screed about BrettonWoods and how the FedCommissioners are actually LizardPeople, just point out flaws in her ImmigrationStance and then upload it to video sharing sites.

Note: these idiots are willing to do something, but what they do is counter-productive to their cause, but perhaps that's the crypto goal.

1. Get some real questions from one of my sites.

2. Ask them during a designated Q&A session.

3. Upload and promote the response.

Is that really so difficult? Apparently it is for RP fans.

He raised over 30 Million dollars and spent all but 4 of it. He got clobbered on Super Tuesday and that was the end of his campaign. He's stretched the remaining dollars out over the last 2+ months.

He didn't use that money for his congressional race. That was a separate fund.

He's making the most out of what he has left and the money I gave him was money well spent. Now the country is only 95% socialist/imperialist instead of 99%. If all it did was raise his profile enough to publish another book and talk about liberty on talk shows then so be it. He's done more than any previous candidate with Libertarian views.

Stop being a hater. I'm sorry the first libertarian to get decent mainstream press is a pro-life federalist. Maybe we can run another one in 4 years that is a pro-choice pot activist so you defeatists will be happy.

You've just gotta think it would be pretty easy to take a state sentator from Las Vegas outside his parliamentary comfort zone.

The MSM stories are making it sound like the Paul supporters created such havoc that the convention's lease on the ballroom expired and they had to leave.

As this series of videos attests, that's not the case.

1. The party apparatchiks tried to push through a rule change to delegate selection of a delegate slate to a small committee of apparatchiks. This rule change failed due to the large number of Paul supporters.

2. A vote for a slate was held, and while it was being counted, it became apparent that Paul was going to win several of the delegates.

3. State Sen. Beers, the chairman, called a recess because the time they had reserved the ballroom for had expired. Counting of the ballots stopped -- it is not known whether they were thrown out or sealed for later inspection.

4. The hotel told the convention they could take as long as they needed to, so the McCain people all hung out in the back of the ballroom and refused to be counted in the head count. Thus, there wasn't a quorum to do business, so the recess could not be ended.

5. The GOP said they would call a new convention sometime soon to actually have a vote. Any bets on "sometime soon" being on a weekday in a hard-to-reach location?

Ron Paul people have been going to Republican precincts all across this Nation to volunteer, they now hold seats in those Rep. committees. Little by little they have won over delegates and voters. The McCain leadership of the Republican Party refused to allow its own elected county delegates to vote when it seemed they were going to vote the wrong way. The McCain supporters ran away, hid, turned the lights out on everyone else, and them fabricated a story about the facility owners wanting everyone out. Extrapolate and imagine what a McCain administration would do to this country.

What I don't get about this is, why are the McCain people even bothering with this? Worst case scenario for them is, that they let the vote go as it went, and send 7 Ron Paul delegates to the national convention, where McCain would still win by a gigantic majority.

For all their talk about unifying the party, they sure don't seem to be able to make any concessions of their own, even when such concessions wouldn't hurt McCain one bit.

The grass roots are highly organized. The national campaign -- you know, where the money went -- is/was run by idiots. If RP2008HQ were in charge of this NV convention push, the delegates would have wound up stranded somewhere in Oregon.

There's no doubt RP's national campaign office was incompetent. The guy in charge of his campaign apparently spent most of his time successfully getting in to Paul's granddaughter's pants. But I don't particularly like the unethical smear. The had 30 million total and spent 26 of it so far. That's not outrageous and Paul is a conservative guy. His best shot of winning was always McCain wrapping up the delegate lead and then dying. So its actually prudent for him to have this reserve fund for a full court media press in the event that happens.

Forget the heavy paper garbage. Just tape the damn envelope to a brick. I used to work at a magazine publisher, and my friends in the mail room told me they got lots of bricks (and other things), because people would glue the postage prepaid subscription cards to them, and toss them in the mailbox.

Then again, we're talking about Republicans here. I wonder what the post office would do if you glued the envelope to an elephant?
