|

On Thursday, February 21, reason.tv's Nick Gillespie appeared on Tucker Carlson's MSNBC show with Pat Buchanan to discuss the breaking John McCain lobbyist-scandal story, Hillary Clinton's waning presidential hopes, and much more.

The fun begins around the 10-minute mark. Click on the image below.

  1. Damn, I wonder if Lisa Reherherhehbererger wears thigh-high stockings. Oh bespeckled Aryan reporter, please fulfill my Nazi-librarian fantasies!

Oh yeah, Pat needs some coffee.

  2. I love how they didn’t just show Iseman’s face, but they had to show her whole body – just to let everyone that she is, indeed, hot.

  3. Obama is the most Libertarian candidate in the race, at least when it comes to civil liberties and immigration.

    P.S.

    Conservativism is not a word.

  4. Nick’s still waiting for the McLaughlin Group invite.

  5. I really liked seeing 3 ron paul backers hogging some face time.

  6. Obama is the most Libertarian candidate in the race, at least when it comes to civil liberties and immigration.

Not too sure about that. McCain’s plan included tissue-thin border security and de facto amnesty. Pretty cosmo, really.

  7. Yes the New York Times deserves to die, and I hope they burn in hell!

I have had it with these motherfuckin’ snakes on motherfuckin’ McCain!

  8. What is up with Nick’s Elvis look?

  9. PLEASE, stop wearing that leather (pleather?) coat it is *so* tacky.

Please don’t think it’s some sort of trademark/moniker/HunterThomasque-thing.

Unless you’re going for the “I think I’m a hipster wearing this but come off as a dick” thing. Then you got it baby.

    *hugs*

  10. I think Nick has a definite Carl Barat thing going. Haters vacate!

  11. “Obama is the most Libertarian candidate in the race, at least when it comes to civil liberties and immigration.”

absurd. he’s terrible on the 2nd amendment. that’s about as important a civil liberty as there is. mccain aint all that great, but he’s clearly better than obama

  12. **Obama is the most Libertarian candidate in the race, at least when it comes to civil liberties and immigration.**

“Not too sure about that. McCain’s plan included tissue-thin border security and de facto amnesty. Pretty cosmo, really.”

again assuming that open border policy is necessarily part of libertarianism, which i’ve argued before is most definitely not the case.

i realize most (or most vocally) here seem to think that.

  13. Nice job, Nick.

I’m pretty sure that Pat wasn’t defending our military’s continued occupation of Iraq. He was just articulating the arguments some folks make for the occupation.

    icl:

Obama is the most Libertarian candidate in the race, at least when it comes to civil liberties and immigration.

Those two plus the Iraq war, where he’s quite libertarian, are the only issues in which he’s libertarian at all. Note his record of voting for big government:

There are only 4 senators who have voted to spend more money than Obama! And if you dig economic liberty, Obama is really bad news.

If McCain wasn’t such a warmonger, or it didn’t matter that he is such a warmonger, I might, despite his molestation on the 1st amendment, really root for him to beat Obama. Check out that John McCain voted to spend less money than all but 5 senators.

    Russ 2000:

Nick’s still waiting for the McLaughlin Group invite.

Yeah, they need a smart, out and out libertarian on that shoe to kinda increase the range of the balance.

  14. again assuming that open border policy is necessarily part of libertarianism, which i’ve argued before is most definitely not the case.

Some libertarians also seem to think that those who cross the border should have full privileges of citizenship including voting. I think every massive increase in suffrage has led to more socialism since most voting is of the “give me free crap” kind. Amnesty would have the same problem — a sudden 12 million+ potential voters wanting more free stuff. Voting is a use of force, and it shouldn’t be given away so easily.

  15. And Nick G said Ron Paul was out of the race why?
Not much “reason” behind that comment.

  16. …Shoulda been: “Yeah, they need a smart, out and out libertarian on that SHOW to kinda increase the range of the balance.

  17. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: Nick Gillespie is the Glenn Danzig* of punditry.

    *Misfits-era Glenn

  18. “absurd. he’s terrible on the 2nd amendment. that’s about as important a civil liberty as there is. mccain aint all that great, but he’s clearly better than obama”

I am all for 2nd ammendment. I am also against the war on drugs. However those two issues are not at the top of my list when it comes to civil liberties. It would be nice if we could have a candidate who satisfied all of our requirnments, but we do not have that luxury.

“There are only 4 senators who have voted to spend more money than Obama! And if you dig economic liberty, Obama is really bad news.”

I dig economic liberty as much as any other kind of liberty, but after eight years of war mongers and bigots in power, I would have to place a greater importance on social liberties. I know it sucks, but unfortunately we only have the chance to choose the lesser of two evils.

I voted for Obama in TX primary and plan to caucus for him on March 4. This is the first time that I place my support behind a candidate from either of the two major parties.

  19. Nick’s no Ron Paul backer. He dropped him after the racist newsletter revelations. Pat Buchanan probably embraced Ron Paul because of the racist newsletters.

  20. How can you increase the range of a balance? What the fuck is the range of a balance?

  21. I love how Gillespie can’t be bothered to put on a tie, but instead wears that Fonzie outfit whereever he appears.

  22. All bow before the might and wisdom of the immortal symbiotic alien entity that survives by feeding off of Nicks temporal human form

and by that i mean the jacket and sideburns.

The t shirt is just a regular black t shirt. when you’ve got black alien goo attached to you all the time, you might as well match.

  23. Nick’s got that Andy Garcia “I shoulda worn a nicer suit” thing going from Godfather III.

  24. Did Gillespie just declare the Ron Paul campaign to “be over”?

All the Ron Paul Cultists are swearing that Paul is still running for President. Gillespie, half-way through the video says “Ron Paul’s campaign is now over.”

  25. Pat was kinda sleepy and slumping. He didn’t even do his trademark “making coleslaw” hand moves.

I didn’t realize that Nick was such a big guy. He made Pat look a bit diminutive sitting next to him.

  26. “and bigots in power”

    oh frickin spare me.

    race card 101.

    don’t like bushco, fine.

but spare me the absurd claim that they are bigots.

  27. Nick,
I think you are absolutely right that the McCain team planted the story to rally and unite the republican base.
    -gball

  28. Pat Buchanan probably embraced Ron Paul because of the racist newsletters.

    That’s ridiculous.

  29. for any reason-er to drop ron paul support cause of the newsletters story is a touch hypocritical and insincere considering i learned about those newsletters months prior to the new republic piece from a link on hit and run. there’s no way any of these guys could have not know about it before it became a “big” deal.

  30. it was nice seeing you on tucker. i watch the show on a regular basis and think it’s a really good news program. i encourage libertarian leaners to watch the show cause tucker has a lot of attractive opinions in that way and he’s not as annoying as people think he is. i didn’t watch him before he came to msnbc so i don’t know how bad he was when jon stewert made him look like a fool on crossfire but i think stewert is the arrogant one these days and tuckers a bit misunderstood. for liberals to lump him in with the o’reillys and the hannitys and rushes is a bit ridiculus and shows they’ve never listened to him much.

  31. Rick,

You’re right. Buchanan probably never read Ron Paul’s racist newsletters. I think the subcription list was pretty select.

  32. Pat has enormous investments in gold. Nuff said. He luuuvvsss him some Paul.
