Among the Paul Volunteers
GILFORD, NH - I'm at one of Operation Live Free or Die's 14 houses for Ron Paul volunteers - the "bases" that will (they hope) overflow with 400 people, canvassing, phone banking, and turning out votes. Ages range from 20 to 40 (not rounding up or down, those are the youngest and oldest people), and everybody shares food, frozen beers (warmed on a radiator) and parking space, recently reduced by a mountain of snow. No one has an unkind word.
"I've never seen a group this big and diverse get along so well," says Anthony Reed, the 20-year old from Fort Worth.
"It's the smartest group of people I've talked to in a long while," says John Nulty, a Massachusetts grad student. "Not since I was staying in youth hostels, touring Europe."
This house is set far, far away from the populous part of New Hampshire (that's a relative term), close to the Gunstock resort and nestled among dozens of similar spacious rental cabins. You'd guess a Bible study group was bunking here if not for the open bottles of Sam Adams and pale ale or the Rothbard and Ron Paul books splayed open on coffee tables. There's also a stack of mini-Constitutons: Nulty brags that the Operation bought the Cato Institute's entire supply.
Few of the volunteers got here before December, but all of them have canvassed and report that it's a lot more effective than phone-banking. They go to small towns where, according to the locals, no Republican campaign has bothered sending troops. Yesterday Indiana musician Aaron Jones hit 30 houses and gave 9 signs to people who claimed they'd warmed to Paul. They're an optimistic group and they have no love for the rest of the GOP field. When Mitt Romney's face appears for a 10-minute C-Span interview, one of them jokingly punches the screen. When Fred Thompson comes on, they just laugh, and they lose it when C-Span advertises more Thompson videos on their website.
"Forget about Lunesta," Reed says. "Just pop one of those on!"
I'm hearing a lot of excitement and some disappointment that the ersatz campaign isn't better organized. More in a full article later.

David-
You promised some photos. Any?
Welcome to New England by the way! It is (sub) freezing cold right now down here in Boston.
Thank you, Paul volunteers, for your dedication.
Ersatz means substitute not official.
But these r3volutionaries should realize that they are the front and last line of defense. The official campaign is only them. It is them or defeat. I wish I could support them more, but we all contribute in the ways we can. I am eating oatmeal and peanut butter for the next month, because I borrowed money to fund the future-president Paul's campaign. Like them, I hope my contribution will count.
Kick a**!
(It kind'a sounds stupid, but I really feel like I am fighting for my country, and I really feel like these volunteers represent me.)
Indeed thank you to the dedicated volunteers on the ground in New Hampshire and Iowa as well. I just wish I had enough vacation time to campaign with you guys for a week or 2
Watching O'Reilly now.
How much are the Nick Gillespie brand Clip-on Sideburns?
I like the way O'Reilly laughed when he said the name of this magazine; apparently he's read it.
It's odd how NG mentioned protecting U.S. borders. I thought we didn't need to do that.
Ron Paul is capturing the hearts and minds of young and old, left and right, Democrat and Republican because of his common sense approach to the issues. One thing all Americans can agree upon is the importance of the U.S. Constitution, and that the rights guaranteed by it should not be eroded any further.
For a great satire on the president, the mainstream media, and the war on terror, see this YouTube music video from the international award-winning zombie musical feature film, "Song of the Dead." It' stars horror movie veteran Reggie Bannister (Phantasm, Wishmaster, Bubba Ho-tep) as the president of the U.S. The filmmaker, Chip Gubera, is giving a share of his profits from DVD sales to the Ron Paul campaign. Tucker and Buchanan on Ron Paul. Great video!
Don't watch that "Song Of The Dead" video. It's stupid and not worth the money they are asking for it. If you want to cringe, then feel free to watch it.
"It's the smartest group of people I've talked to in a long while," says John Nulty, a Massachusetts grad student. "Not since I was staying in youth hostels, touring Europe."
What is that? Some sort of sick joke? Because I'm not laughing. I'm not laughing because it isn't funny. So how can it be a joke if it isn't funny? Screw you and your Eurosocialist friends Nulty! You commie bastard.
GO RON PAUL
I am underwelmed. Pick any 20 year old from any campaign and you will get the same response.
These are two people that do not have a solid grasp of reality or irony.
FRED THOMPSON is the best person to lead this country. He is a true conservative and has been his entire life. All one has to do is check his record to see this.
During my time in the Army as an Intelligence Analyst, I served personally under both Presidents Carter and Reagan. Without argument, President Reagan was the best commander-in-chief a military person could ever have served under. Fred Thompson possesses the same qualities and vision as President Reagan in that he is strong on national defense and sees a dire need to secure our borders and control immigration.
I can think of no better person to lead this country and fix the problems we have. He is the only candidate from either party who has specific and detailed plans on border security and immigration reform; revitalization of America's armed forces; saving and protecting Social Security; and tax relief and economic growth. These are detailed on his Web site at http://www.fred08.com . I challenge you to find any other candidate who has laid out specific plans to fix anything.
Fred Thompson has published his first principles, some of which are mentioned above. In addition to those, he strongly believes in individual liberty, personal responsibility, limited government, federalism, traditional American values, the rule of law and is a strong proponent of the Second Amendment - all concepts established during the birth of our country and documented in our Constitution.
Again, try to find any candidate who has laid out their plans to "fix" this country. You will find they all speak in vague and abstract terms on their plans.
For those who have heard Fred Thompson speak, you will usually hear him say that the Fred Thompson you see today is the same Fred Thompson you saw yesterday and is the same Fred Thompson you will see tomorrow. He stands by his principles and values and doesn't shift his positions based on polls or public opinion; in other words, he doesn't say what the voters want to hear just to get elected, but remains steadfast on his views and convictions.
During his time in the Senate he focused on three areas: to lower taxes, strengthen national security and expose waste in the federal government. Fred Thompson has foreign policy experience, having served as member of the Senate Foreign Relations and Senate Intelligence committees.
As chairman of the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee, he opened the investigation in 1997 on the Chinese government's attempt to influence American policies and elections, and this investigation identified connections with the Clinton administration (documented in the committee's report).
As a member of the Finance Committee, he worked tirelessly to enact three major tax-cut bills. Fred Thompson remains steadfast and even though a person may not agree with all his views and he understands some may disagree with him, you can count on him to be consistent and unwavering.
Don't be fooled by his laid back approach and what critics call his "laziness." As a former assistant U.S. attorney, he earned a reputation as a tough prosecutor and he possesses the toughness this country needs in order to tackle today's and tomorrow's issues.
I ask that you take a hard look at what this country needs, then take a hard look at all the other candidates' views, policies, their records and their track record on consistency. Fred Thompson possesses integrity, loyalty, commitment, energy and decisiveness, all traits of an effective leader, and will emerge as the best person to take this country boldly forward.
Please help Fred win in Iowa:

ROFLMAO!!!
Holy Crap, what the fuck was that?
That, Warren, was serious business.
Looks like the Fredheads have their online canvassing in play. Too bad they're barking up the wrong tree like 'Frederick Paxson' up there, who's apparently been spamming nonstop across popular blogs:
'Frederick Paxson' Spam
Holy Crap, what the fuck was that?
Probably a spam-bot. It obviously wasn't anyone who regularly reads this blog!

Oh, its lonewacko. Dude, why do you lurk around here if you think the magazine is crapola? I hear a cry for help.

This spambot made it onto TN daily newspaper unlabeled as 'press release'.

The closest i could find, this is the only thing this "person" has ever written. I did find a reference to a Army historian... but his last book was in 1948. Methinks Fred knows some 90yr old biddy whose name he can borrow for spamification.
DW, that is really what RP is about. Got a note from this blond chick that I am a little fond of just now. BTW, she can drink any of you under the table. I mean anyone here. Says she:
And that is really a microcosm of what makes up the RP contingent.
Unfortunately she also weighs 300 lbs. Good luck Shallow Hal.
rhys, like you, I wish I was up there with those crazy kids, on the front line. Well, it won't be long until you are on the front line too; wherever you are.
We've got lots of folks up there from Texas. I am really looking forward to working with them when they get back here as we prepare for our primary in March.
Every day I get less and less cynical about this election and our country. I've gotten so used to believing things will only continue to get worse that it's kind of hard to wake up to the fact that we have a real chance to turn things around. Amazing!
You'd guess a Bible study group was bunking hear...
Kids these days.
...frozen beers (warmed on a radiator)...
My respect for these people just took a deep plunge.
Don't forget to drop by the New Hampshire Liberty Forum this weekend! In addition to many other libertarian luminaries, Ron Paul will speak at the closing ceremony after noon on Sunday.
Thank you to all who have come to N.H.
to help with the Ron Paul campaign.
You are doing something that has real
meaning.
You are the future of this country.
We all pray Ron Paul wins, if he doesn't
we need to keep liberty alive...don't ever
stop the good work you are doing when you return home. This "Revolution" is about us and our children and Ron Paul is big enough to know that. Most of the other candidates think the election is about them..not our guy. A wise man he is.
Thanks again, you all are standing up
and that matters. It's okay to drink "Sam Adams" too...he was a real Patriot, so are all of you!
Warren (above) Hate to get your proctologist bill when he performs the head extraction from your nether region.
And to ahem "all" the Fred Thompson supporters your guy was more popular before he started running...I think that trend means something!
"It's the smartest group of people I've talked to in a long while," says John Nulty, a Massachusetts grad student. "Not since I was staying in youth hostels, touring Europe."
I'm sorry, but it really does sound like a joke (like something someone would say to be funny).
The other thing I find interesting is that a grad student, in praise of the intelligence of the Paul volunteers, indicates that the backpackers he met in Europe were the most recent intelligent people he met, and not his fellow masters candidates. Unless he was more recently backpacking in Europe than he was in class, what does that say?
""It's the smartest group of people I've talked to in a long while," says John Nulty, a Massachusetts grad student. "Not since I was staying in youth hostels, touring Europe.""
Beat it.
I read from another blog that Glen Beck said last night that somebody threatened his life for supporting Ron Paul. I was surprised to read that Beck now supports Ron Paul because he had been very opposed to Ron Paul. Anybody else know anything about Beck now supporting Paul?
"Unless he was more recently backpacking in Europe than he was in class, what does that say?"
it says that he's a confused Howard Dean supporter!
"It's the smartest group of people I've talked to in a long while," says John Nulty, a Massachusetts grad student. "Not since I was staying in youth hostels, touring Europe."
Wow. I guess Ron Paul does attract the crazies.
Rattlesnake,
I believe Beck said that he received death threats from RP supporters for taking negative shots at RP. He indicated that he had shared those with RP off camera and RP said he had no involvement with whoever had sent them and did not endorse that kind of behavior.
"Forget about Lunesta," Reed says. "Just pop one of those on!"
It's funny because he's a dork.
"I believe Beck said that he received death threats from RP supporters for taking negative shots at RP."
That makes more sense.
I made a small contribution to get Aaron Jones to New Hampshire. I live in Texas, never met the guy, but heard his music and liked it. I saw on a Ron Paul website that he wanted to go to N.H. to campaign. Every little but helps and now I'm thrilled to death to read that he is indeed fighting in the trenches on the Eastern front. I'm proud of you, Aaron! Wish I could have done more.
The other thing I find interesting is that a grad student, in praise of the intelligence of the Paul volunteers, indicates that the backpackers he met in Europe were the most recent intelligent people he met, and not his fellow masters candidates.
Why is this interesting? In my experience getting a masters degree involves completing academic checklists (with documents formatted correctly) and kissing grad committee ass, not intelligence.

(also very funny)
Thats the same FredHead Ive seen posting comments on other RP stories!!!
Freddie boy has one supporter spamming all the internet sites!!!
Parke- yeah, and that spamming strategy is really paying dividends for Thompson, isn't it? Ha.
Fun Piece. Glad to hear everyone is getting along so well.
--- "You'd guess a Bible study group was bunking here if not for the open bottles of Sam Adams and pale ale."
Common now--some Christians drink. In fact, we do drink beer at my Bible study. No beer and I get really bummed:)
