Ron Paul Likes Non-Violence

|

I've put some video from Ron Paul's post-speech Q&A at the Robert Taft Club up on YouTube. Here's how Paul responds to a call for intra-candidate combat.

The rest of the videos are here.

  1. Only sorta…

If you want to get into fisticuffs, you’ve got to declare, fight it, and win it.

  2. I bit the bullet today (so to speak), and donated to the Paul campaign. Donuts, with the promise of more donuts to come.

  3. I don’t know what Huckabee said to him. But the Giuliani comments from the first debate really were an invitation to a donnybrook. RP’s a gentleman but there comes a point where he needs to set his jaw, point his finger, and say: “you take back your lies or put up your dukes–the choice is yours.”

Now that I think about it, dueling might be the answer to ad hominem attack ads…

    *sigh*

  5. Kick his ass, Sea Bass!

  6. Now that I think about it, dueling might be the answer to ad hominem attack ads…

That’s apparently what Aaron Burr thought.

  7. DangerMan — allowing duels between presidential candidates might thin the crop of politicians, but it might also result in the most pro-war candidate being the survivor of a series of duels, leading to him or her getting elected.

  8. Prolefeed – that’s assuming the most pro-war candidate is also the one who’s best with his fists.

  9. When it comes to non-violence, Ron Paul kicks ass!
    Oh wait

  10. If any Ron Paul fans want to reduce Huck’s popularity, go to his campaign appearances, grit your teeth, do a gut check, and ask him this question. Then, upload his response and promote it.

Doing things like that will have the side effect of making the MSM look very bad; while they’re covering trivialities, regular citizens would be asking the questions they’re afraid to ask.

  11. FYI…
Dr. Paul is confirmed to be on Leno, Oct. 30th

    Saweeeet!

  12. allowing duels between presidential candidates might thin the crop of politicians, but it might also result in the most pro-war candidate being the survivor of a series of duels, leading to him or her getting elected.

That’s why you shoot the winner of each duel, just for good measure.

  13. At the last Reasonoid Gathering that I attended, the three Ronaholics seemed like nice fellows.

  14. “but it might also result in the most pro-war candidate being the survivor of a series of duels, leading to him or her getting elected.”

No way are pro war candidates willing to risk their own skin. If politicians ever had to fight you’d probably end up with anarchy.

Then again, if they could have duels by proxy…

  15. Dr. Paul is confirmed to be on Leno, Oct. 30th

    Wow. Happy Birthday to me.

  16. And now he’s 5% in the latest Gallup Poll, up three ticks from 2% (and he was 4% previous to that). MoE of 3%

  17. Hmmm, Leno was taken off the calendar for some reason on RP’s site. Sorry for the quick posting, but it WAS up there. Possible re-scheduling?

  18. allowing duels between presidential candidates might thin the crop of politicians, but it might also result in the most pro-war candidate being the survivor of a series of duels, leading to him or her getting elected.

That’s why you shoot the winner of each duel, just for good measure.

    Thread won. Congrats.

  19. Will this enthusiasm for dueling politicos make you re-reconsider Andrew Jackson?

  20. Screw 10 paces. American Classic: Do it at 100 yards with rifles; glory to the guy who brings the pre-ban mag.

  21. allowing duels between presidential candidates might thin the crop of politicians, but it might also result in the most pro-war candidate being the survivor of a series of duels, leading to him or her getting elected.

I dunno, considering the most vehement anti-war Dems seem to be vets and the most vehement pro-war Reps aren’t, I think the peaceniks would win.

Hell, Cheney shot a guy in the face and the dude lived. Combat training would fix that.

  22. huh,

Andrew Jackson was against the Federal Bank of his day. There are aspects of Paul and his campaign that are downright Jacksonian.

  23. TLB,
If any Ron Paul fans want to reduce Huck’s popularity, go to his campaign appearances, grit your teeth, do a gut check, and ask him this question.

For the benefit of those of us without multimedia privileges online, what question are you talking about?

  24. I dunno, considering the most vehement anti-war Dems seem to be vets and the most vehement pro-war Reps aren’t, I think the peaceniks would win.

    Kucinich isn’t a vet.
    I know McCain is.

Look at the pro-war Dems: Hillary isn’t a vet, despite her attempt to join the Marines.

Anti-War Republicans? Ron Paul was a Flight surgeon.

  25. Re: Dueling politicos

God bless Aaron Burr. Too bad he didn’t kill Hamilton before 1788.

  26. I just think it’s sad that all mof the conservative tee-shirt girls get their cooter-boxes waxed.

  27. I just think it’s sad that all mof the conservative tee-shirt girls get their cooter-boxes waxed

I just wish one of them was wearing a shirt saying “I support traditional family values,” or “Sex should wait till marriage.”

  28. Regis: the question is derived from this post.

  29. TLB,

    Thanks.

Not sure why you’re calling for a gut check before the question, unless you’re counting on Huckabee’s (apparently?) pro-immigrant stance as being wildly at odds with the GOP base? I mean, if I read the post correctly, Huckabee seems to have the more libertarian position than RP here, even if it is sketchy that he seems to be evading the rule of law and handing out special ID’s to illegal immigrants. Is this just election season realpolitik?

  30. Huckabee’s position is more understandable if you remember that Arkansas is home of Tyson foods.

Immigration is an issue that libertarians and big corporations can agree on. The big corps just want to be able to stick others with the external costs of their labor practices. A rational thing to want to do. Just like using lobbists to give your business model a legislative advantage is a rational act.

  31. Speaking of “Ron Paul” videos, here is musician John Mayer defending Ron Paul, outside a club during a debate with the Mac guy from the “I’m a Mac, and I’m a PC” commercials:

  32. Andrew Jackson was against the Federal Bank of his day. There are aspects of Paul and his campaign that are downright Jacksonian.

Andy Jackson, opponent of Socialism before Socialism had a name with his whole “in your face Supreme Court” throwdown! Second President of three from the Greenest State in the Land of the Free!

    RP ain’t nothun’ like Andy.

  33. I have a sinking feeling the John Mayer video was just a goof. He’s famous for jerking people’s chains like that.

  34. I don’t know about that Guy. I was impressed by RP’s statement on war to the Taft Club:

“You declare war if you have to, and then you get in there and win it and then get out”

(I wanna here more of that kind of talk, and he better get on it if he wants to win a GOP Primary).

Why settle for Fred Thompson, hoping he is our best President since Reagan. Ron Paul could be the Greatest President since James K. Polk!

  35. Ron Paul could be the Greatest President since James K. Polk!

Ugh. Polk was terrible. This country hasn’t had a decent president since William Henry Harrison.

  36. “You declare war if you have to, and then you get in there and win it and then get out”

    Pre-WWI thinking at it’s finest.

  37. “Pre-WWI thinking at it’s finest.”

I’m guessing that is a compliment.

  38. Wow, Ron said “Huckabee” in the Taft Club video. Not long ago, I distinctly heard him say “Hucklebee” in a discussion about fundraising.

There’s something very endearing about how Ron Paul rarely talks about other candidates. It’s certainly part of his appeal.

This also holds true as dating advice for guys: avoid talking about other girls when you’re on a date with someone.

  39. Ron Paul proved once again why he is a pussy bitch. Vote for Giuliani, the Mainstream Libertarian running for president, not for pussy nutcase Ron Paul and his 9 Internet spammers.

  40. “You declare war if you have to, and then you get in there and win it and then get out”

    Pre-WWI thinking at it’s finest.

Rolling Federal power back to a pre-Woodrow Wilson level is a good first step.

If I remember my History correctly Polk resisted starting an aggressive war against Mexico. Fremont started it and then Polk did as Ron Paul stated above.
