The Chilling, Thrilling Sounds of The Haunted White House
Via Instapundit comes a constitutional sound effects podcast worth streaming:
The sixth anniversary of September 11 is just past, and it's a good time to look at where we are, and what to do in coming years. We spoke to Harvard Law Professor Jack Goldsmith, whose new book, The Terror Presidency: Law and Judgment Inside the Bush Administration, tells the story of his experience working at the Defense Department and as head of the Office of Legal Counsel at the Department of Justice, and also looks at how the decisionmaking process relating to terror is being "strangled by law." Goldsmith talks about his experiences, his book, and what the next President and Congress should do.You can listen directly—no downloading needed— by going here and taking advantage of the gray Flash player. Or you can download the file and listen at your leisure by clicking right here.
This podcast was brought to you by Volvo Motors. Music is by Mobius Dick. Visit our show archives for updates and prior episodes at GlennandHelenShow.com.
When you're done with that, calm down by listening to the soundtrack of disaffected late-era baby boomers everywhere (seriously, the second track, "The Very Long Fuse," is sonic Rohypnol):

I have looked for the Haunted House record for years! Oh, BABY! Time to hop in the time machine…
Ah. I used to listen to “Chilling, Thrilling Sounds of The Haunted House” over and over and over. And my mom tolerated it with a smile on her face. One of the million reasons she should be sainted.
In my version, I hear the laugh of Bush as imitated by Jon Stewart.
Music is by Mobius Dick.
In other words, the music is by Mr. Instapundit himself.
I used to have a later iteration of Disney’s haunted house albums. The one I owned (actually, I think it’s still in a closet around here, somewhere) featured an obvious “Jack the Ripper” sequence: sinister man laughing, the chimes of Big Ben, footsteps on cobblestones, etc., followed by a woman’s scream and then police whistles. It always seemed to be pushing the envelope a bit for a “children’s” album. Oh, how I loved it.
even as a child i knew that chinese water torture track on that record was racist as fuck.
Mobius Dick? After looking at Escher’s drawings, I’d think that would hurt.
Sirence, you lound-eyed follen devir!
And I thought I was cutting edge Gen X’r. Oh well. A late era doomer . . .
Holy crap, I was recalling this exact record just yesterday. Had no idea it was so popular. When DOES boomer-dom end anyway? I was born in ’69.
Wow, what a blast from the past. I used to really freak myself out with this record. They really should reissue it.
Oh god that was my favorite record ever as a kid. I especially liked the horribly racist ‘Water Torture’ track. And by ‘liked’ I mean ‘am somewhat ashamed of’.

Why are you calling the Chinese racist Water Torturers?
Fucking Chimpler,Cheney, Rumsfeld, Blackwater security, the CIA and the US Military are the REAL racist water torturers.Only now they call it “WaterBoarding”.
@Peer_Pressure It’s racist as in (if you’ve even heard the damned thing) it has a lady pretending to speak Mandarin on it. It’s horribly racist, hahaha.
Oh. My. Gosh. The “Chilling, Thrilling Sounds of The Haunted House” is an album I bought as a kid. On Beggar’s Night, I used to put my record player’s speakers in my 2nd-story-room window, and play the spooky sounds to the neighborhood! I still own that album, but haven’t gotten it (or any other album) out of the boxes for years. Thanks for the memory, Nick!
