I've been wondering why Bin Laden is sounding more and more like a westerner. Here's one plausible explanation.

Elsewhere in Reason: Brendan O'Neill's bin Laden theory.

I’m sure if “Azzam the American” is ever caught and imprisoned, the next International ANSWER protests will have FREE AZZAM t-shirts and signs.

I’ve honestly assumed OBL was dead simply because he didn’t do more video taping of himself. Both sides of the political spectrum have reason to keep him alive, and I’m not saying he’s actually dead, but I was surprised that this does seem to be him, minus his real beard.

The whole beard thing is weird though. They’re not supposed to cut their beards, but they have shown that they think it’s warranted in the course of their war, such as when the 9/11 terrorists shaved, drank, went to topless bars, et cetera.

Why would he have need of a fake beard? Either he’s hiding out in a place where he’s totally free to be himself i.e. not a cave. Or perhaps his health has been poor. Poor health would explain the absence of more videos in the last few years. Maybe he was wounded, or just maybe living in primitive conditions has taken it’s toll.

    Ray G-

I don’t think hes really in a cave, Al Qaeda might like everyone to believe that for propaganda reasons. But all the senior leaders of Al Qaeda captured so far have been in the urban areas of Pakistan. So, it makes you wonder if he isn’t, also.

Osama, no longer a bogeyman, just boogying.

  5. Lamar   18 years ago

What? Nothing about Cuban healthcare? OBL is so out of touch these days.

  6. Brett   18 years ago

I knew it. You can just make out a Rage Against the Machine t-shirt underneath his religious garb.

  7. douglas Gray   18 years ago

My Intel sources tell me the video is partially genuine but partially fake. For the more recent dialogue, the frames are frozen, so the part that allows Bush to act out his Captain America fantasies are phoney.

  8. Bee   18 years ago

OBL, “The biggest gas bag in the terrorist world”.

Is it a sinister ploy to lull us into ignoring him by nagging us to brush our teeth….or is he now simply a delusional windbag?

  9. spur   18 years ago

My theory has always been the OBL lives in a luxury condo in the Watergate.

  10. bill   18 years ago

Adam Gadahn is really Adam Pearlman, an American Zionist Jew. He’s a neo-con agent and false flag operator. Not one major media outlet has commented on bin Ladens (if it is him) obviously FAKE (not dyed) beard or that the video freezes for 10 minutes as mentioned above. Jeez, “THEY” are so sure their plan is going to work they aren’t even trying anymore.

May I interrupt this thread to mention that a public school in NY had a policy against calling 911, resulting in a the school waiting over an hour before calling an ambulance when she had a stroke?

The apparent reason for this thing is the desire to avoid being designated as a dangerous school under federal law and local policy.

“when she had a stroke” should read “when a student had a stroke”

  13. Stevo Darkly   18 years ago

The next Osama video will start with some amateurish camera zooms, cheap title effects, and Osama singing, “Osama’s World! Osama’s World! Party on! Ex-cellent!”

    Punk Jihad:

Ok, that was a tad of a stretch (good song anyway) but speaking of old school punk groups, here’s some newer punk in the old school style:

Switchblade Kittens – “Solar Plexus Kick”

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xFWAUH0lsY

    I think it’s pretty good.

  15. tarran   18 years ago

    Mad Max, that was horrendous.

“We put the welfare of the child foremost” indeed.

  16. Doctor Duck   18 years ago

A former senior US intelligence official said: “It has Adam Gadahn written all over it.”

Well, that just makes it too easy!

  17. John   18 years ago

    Mad Max,

That is horrible. That is as bad as the school in Saudi Arabia where the girls were allowed to burn to death becuase the fire department wouldn’t let them out of a burning grade school lest they mix with little boys. Our nanny-staters and bureaucrats are just as bad as whahabbists.

  18. Jacob   18 years ago

It’s funny that none of the mainstream media think the reason why he looks younger is because he IS younger in the video. They also fail to mention the obvious freeze frame.

Call me a nut, but I’m beginning to suspect that the media is in the pocket of the government.

  19. Allah is my bitch   18 years ago

Bin Laden is the Count Floyd of terrorists. Really, really scary boys and girls. Owwwwwwwwwooooooooooo!

  20. Andrew Ian Dodge   18 years ago

Yeah, I figured if that cretin liked “heavy metal” it would be of the rubbish rap-metal variety like RATM, Slipnot and Hed(pe).

  21. joe   18 years ago

Rap-metal isn’t inherently crappy. Remember “Bring Tha Noize?”

But it certainly is easy to draw that conclusion.

  22. TrickyVic   18 years ago

Here’s what really happened to OBL

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfYGZfpbcpA

  23. ChrisO   18 years ago

Do you suppose that Howard Stern has operatives working day and night to slip “bababooey” into one of bin Laden’s speeches?

Bin Laden hasn’t looked healthy for quite awhile, but that latest still of him looks positively deathly.

  24. Ethan   18 years ago

When I saw the video I thought that Goldstein’s, um, I mean bin Laden’s, nose looked different and that the beard looked fake. But that’s just me.
