Good News
I'm delighted to report that Cory Maye's lawyer, Bob Evans, knocked off the incumbent in a runoff election, and won himself a seat in the Mississippi State Legislature.
Couldn't have happened to a better guy. Mississippi politics (and politics generally) needs more stand-up people like Evans.
My October 2006 reason piece on Cory Maye here.

So Bob Evans is now part of the sausage factory.
Well, that is good news. I was hoping that this would be actual good news about Mr. Maye's own troubles.

Mr. Maye shot a cop, he got what he deserved, the circumstances are irrelevant.
Hi, Mr Juanita!
HA, sausage factory
Cory profiteers 2, Cory 0.
I find the above comment pretty offensive.
The state legislature is a part-time gig. It's hardly "profiteering." Evans was fired as public defender because he refused to cave in to threats from the town of Prentiss that he stop representing Cory in his appeal. He's been working on Cory's case pro-bono.
Not sure who you're implying the other "profiteer" is, but if the implication is that it's me, I haven't made a dime off of Cory's case, save for the fee I got for writing the article for Reason.
Sadly, in our twisted legal (sure ain't justice) system shooting a cop is more and more often the RIGHT response at the time.
Yeah that's about the most offensive comment I've seen. Even by troll standards that's too far.
I'd also like to point out that thanks to those "profiteers," government officials are not actively conspiring to poison Cory Maye anymore.
