Book Talk Tonight: Andy Ferguson on The Land of Lincoln
A healthy number of reason readers find much to disagree with in the pages of The Weekly Standard and in the life of Abraham Lincoln. But Andy Ferguson, senior editor at the Standard and a former colleague of mine, will perform the alchemical manipulations required to make both a joy tonight at Politics and Prose. He's promoting his new book, The Land of Lincoln: Adventures in Abe's America, and it promises to be a good time.
To get a taste of the Ferguson magic, check out his previous writing on Lincolniana: "With Malice Toward Some," "Man o' War," and "Dedicated to the Proposition…"

ANDREW FERGUSON
LAND OF LINCOLN (Atlantic Monthly, $24)
This delightful book defies definition. Ferguson explores, through his travels to Lincoln conferences and sites, the hold Lincoln has on the imagination of Americans: his words, his character, his accomplishments, and most of all the mythology.

I read the "Man o' War" post and I'm afraid the Ferguson magic flew right over my head. It was a lot of "blood makes the grass grow" guff typical of those hell for leather types at the Standard--you know, like Cap'n Bill Kristol and Fightin' Fred Barnes. We ought to send those boys over to I-rack. They'd whip those A-rabs good. Let's do it! Let's do it right now!
Only one comment, eh? Hmmmm. Katy, better call Andy and tell him to tell ALL his friends to show at P&P tonight. Because I ain't coming.
I saw it in B&N the other day; it looks like a fun read. I happen to one of those truly rare birds: a libertarian who likes Lincoln (I also like Alex Hamilton)...
