Montana Liberaltarians vs. REAL ID
Last week Montana's legislature passed legislation pulling the state out of the REAL ID lineup. The liberal Montana blog Left in the West reports:
The Governor signed a bill opting out of REAL ID today -- meaning Montana is not going to be part of the de facto national ID system. The bill passed unanimously. Jon Tester is already on it -- calling on the U.S. Senate to listen to the people of Montana. Similar bills are moving elsewhere in the country.
Gov. Brian Schweitzer is a Democrat, and Tester was the burly* Democrat who called for PATRIOT Act repeal in his Senate race last year. I'm genuinely curious about what would happen in the West if the Democrats put up a 2008 candidate who's decent on civil liberties, like Obama or Richardson, and the GOP puts up a war-on-terror-forever candidate like Rudy.
*meaning "fat" he has a big gut.

Tester is definitely not "fat," as you would know if you'd ever met him. He is big and he is stocky, and he would pound your ass through a 2-by-6. Don't doubt it for a second.
Feel free to complete the sentence: "A real Montanan can be identified by his or her......"
Button-fly Levis, cuz the sound of a zipper can spook a herd of sheep.
"if the Democrats put up a 2008 candidate who's decent on civil liberties, like Obama..."
David how far do you have your head up your ass?
Obama is a socialist who wants to ban guns and free speech, via through public financing of campagins.
He is also for a host of other big government programs(universal health care), all of which, by there nature, infringe our rights.
You should know this.
Are you sober?
Consider his subscription CANCELED, BEE-YATCH!
If the phrase "civil liberties" means everything, then it means nothing.
...via through...
Once is never enough.
de stijl,
If you can't thoroughly grammar- and spell-check, why bother at all?
highnumber's reasoning:
I only picked on one of Terry's literary shortcomings, hence ergo therefore I am lazy.
I'm genuinely curious to find out what happens when the REAL ID kicks into full gear and Montanan's (?) can't board commercial flights. Hopefully there will be enough states to do this that it makes the REAL ID unworkable, but I'm not holding my breath.
In Re: Dave's question, any Democrat that gives even vague lip service to civil liberties will wipe the floor with Guliani.
The problem is that Hillary can't do so without eliciting howls of laughter from all quarters, and Obama isn't nearly audacious enough to push the issue.
I'm genuinely curious: What has Obama said that makes you think he's "decent on civil liberties"?
And does your definition of civil liberties include the First and Second Amendments, or only the Fourth and Fifth?
I'm genuinely curious about what would happen in the West if the Democrats put up a 2008 candidate who's decent on civil liberties, like Obama or Richardson, and the GOP puts up a war-on-terror-forever candidate like Rudy.
I read a really good article today that included a discussion of Giuliani's views on the war-on-terror. It was in a magazine called Reason.
You ought to read it some time. Really.
