McCain Picks His Friends
Yesterday the McCain campaign hired a national finance co-chair: longtime Republican fixer Fred Malek. Here's some fun background info on Malek, from a Washington Post piece published last year:
Malek admitted that a memo written by him did suggest that people who were not Nixon's supporters be punished in some way. "Unethical, immoral and improper" was the way [Sen. Carl] Levin described Malek's role, adding that Malek had "spearheaded a calculated, systematic effort to sell government favors to the highest bidder in the Nixon reelection campaign and to punish low bidders or the nonbidders."…
It was also in 1971, The Post reported, that Malek was given a patently anti-Semitic order from a paranoid Richard Nixon to count the Jews in high-ranking posts in the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Instead of refusing, Malek set about compiling a list of 13 of 35 top BLS employees who, he believed, were Jewish. Less than two months later, two senior BLS officials who were Jewish were moved out of their jobs to less visible posts. Malek acknowledges carrying out the disgusting hunt for Jews, but he denies having anything to do with the transfers.
Presumably he just thought Nixon needed a minyan.

I simply cannot abide those Maleks.
Wow. It’s gotten really quiet around here. People must be slowly recovering from their stunned reaction re: Keith Richards and his addition to pop-snorting.
In Nixon’s defense, if the Bureau of Labor Statistics couldn’t be bothered to count their own workers, then they all should’ve been sacked anyway.

Amazing what the press can uncover when they go after government secrets vigorously.
If muslims are present on the bush staff, they are counted.
If they are counted, they are counted on one hand.
Our last 2 presidents make nixon look downright Washingtonian by comparison.
Nixon was anti-Semetic? Noooo.
Next you’ll be telling me Carter was naive, Clinton was horny and Bush II an idiot.

How the hell? Did he do this by surname? Or did he do this by actually investigating their religious habits?
When you’re on my show, you can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose. But you CAN’T pick your friend’s nose!
who benefits?

I’ll guess the former. Nixon passed on Caspar Weinberger for the Supreme Court because he thought (wrongly) that Cap was jewish. (see The Rehnquist Choice by John Dean)
What the hell is McCaine doing? I mean, the guy used to have some guts. The guy used to break away from the party if he didn’t agree. Now, he become their puppet! Come on, McCaine! What the hell happened?
