Strangely, Stanley "Colonel" Kurtz has not yet said a word about this over at NRO--and the news is over a day old. Since Col. Kurtz usually posts within 15 minutes about any news affecting "traditional families", this seems exceedingly odd. I mean, Ms. Cheney is the most politcally prominent lesbian in America, whether she likes it or not (apparently she doesn't, given her public record of appeasement with the nuts supporting her father).

Where's your patented outrage and dread, Colonel? America needs you in this cultural war!

  2. Jeff P   19 years ago

    Ahem:
"father absence is the most pressing social problem facing the nation."

From a Town Haller no less.

When's the last time you heard a conservative drag out this old chestnut?

  3. kohlrabi   19 years ago

John Podhoretz just made a comment on The Corner.

    Jeff P,

Yeah, what an idiot! Fathers good for kids. Pah!

  5. JW   19 years ago

We had a lesbian couple a few houses down from us, with 2 adopted chinese girls. Great family.

One day about a year ago or so, my then-5-year old son looks up to me and says, "Jenna has 2 mommies...and 1 daddy." (Not sure who he had in mind for the daddy.) That was it, nothing more beyond that.

Gotta love 5-year old kid perspective. Smarter than the average social conservative!

  6. yuri   19 years ago

Of course Mary is appeasing the "nuts" supporting her father. He might be not very politically correct -- to her he is Daddy, no mater what Andrea Dworkin might have thought about him.

  7. J sub D   19 years ago

This is Mary's business. Not yours, mine our ours. 'Nuff said.

  8. J sub D   19 years ago

    Make th or, vice our.

  9. Peter K.   19 years ago

If this is a "Sign of How Gloriously Wealthy Our Culture Is", then every day there are signs of how Gloriously Wealthy the cultures of Arab Palestine, Bangladesh, Pakistan and other such places are, because ordinary people living therein regularly show up at mass demonstrations concerning cartoons, novels and all things western.

  10. Number 6   19 years ago

    Jeff P,

Yeah, what an idiot! Fathers good for kids. Pah!

Are you being intentionally dense? The alternative is that you've got serious reading comprehension problems. Jeff P. did not scoff at the notion that fathers are good for kids. And you know it. He scoffed at the idea that a lack of fathers is the most dire problem facing the nation. Those are very different statements, and I'm pretty sure you're aware of that.

We can talk all you want about what Jeff P actually said, that the kind of dishonesty and/or intellectual sloth your comment demonstrates is frankly embarrassing.

  11. Dan T.   19 years ago

"This is Mary's business. Not yours, mine our ours. 'Nuff said."

No, it's everyone's business. Individual choices affect society as a whole, so society has the right to regulate individual choices. Lesbians and homos who have children teach their children that homosexuality is acceptable, deprive their children of the necessity of both a male and female parental figure, and, in many cases, sexually abuse their children. When the child is born it should be taken by the state, given to a nice Christian, heterosexual couple, and Ms. Cheney should receive a bible, a stoning and a hystorectomy, not necessarily in that order. It's that simple.

  12. Jonathan C. Hohensee   19 years ago

Considering that in the past Dan T. has taken the far-left prespective of things, I hope no one here makes the mistake of takening what he says seriously.

  13. Evan!   19 years ago

That's not the real Dan T. Troll that we've come to now and laugh at. Check the name link. The "real" Dan Troll's name links to his stupid, painfully unfunny "center for advanced sarcasm" blog.

  14. kohlrabi   19 years ago

    Number 6,

I get it, cool down. My comment was more making fun of the curmudgeonly libertarian's often reflexive mockery of conservatives. Heaven forbid the conservative might employ a little hyperbole when addressing a legit social problem. Good thing libertarians never do this.

"the kind of dishonesty and/or intellectual sloth your comment demonstrates is frankly embarrassing."

    Jesus, go have a drink.

  15. J sub D   19 years ago

It appears that Dan T. and I agree on something. Now I have to go take an extra shower.

  16. J sub D   19 years ago

If that's not the REAL Dan T., cue Emily Litella - "Never Mind".

  17. Jeff P   19 years ago

My point, to be clear, was that in the the top slots of conservative issues for the past five years have been nabbed terrorism, gay marriage, immigration, war protests, and the war on Christianity. Each of them was declared the single most important issue facing our culture today. Repeatedly.
    Oh, sorry, now it's fatherlessness.

The GOP had a pretty cohesive playbook for a while there, now they just sound like James Gregory in Manchurian Candidate.

I would also like to add that it is the aggregate effect of trolls across the internet that really slow down the whole of web traffic. Without them we could all download porn that much faster.

And this is the most critical issue facing our culture ever.

  18. thoreau   19 years ago

I have nothing to say except best wishes to everybody involved. There's no reason that the birth of a baby should be a matter of politics. Political types are supposed to kiss babies, not argue over them.

The only arguing I'll do is to insist that my nephews and nieces are the cutest babies in the world, and I'm willing to arm wrestle anybody who claims otherwise.

  19. James Kabala   19 years ago

Peter K. is right. Plenty of poor societies frequently get in high dudgeon about real or alleged moral offenses, many much more trivial than Mary Cheney's pregnancy. In reality, the wealthiest societies tend to be the most tolerant and/or decadent (depending on your point of view).

  20. wingnutx   19 years ago

They are going nuts about this over at DU.

  21. kohlrabi   19 years ago

    Jeff P,

Fair enough. I'm moving onto the pr0n.

Brainstrom; if you get one vote for kissing babies, think about how many votes will you get for molesting them! Hold all my calls, Betty, we've got a campaign history to make!

    ROTFLMAO!

  24. Lev   19 years ago

Jesus, Thoreau, give the cutsie niceness a rest. What, are you studying for the priesthood? Mary Cheney is a fucking lezzy. Her mother is probably a fucking lezzy. Her old man is evil incarnate and probably gay as a goose. What chance is that kid gonna have?

  25. steveintheknow   19 years ago

Now all they need to do is get married, and have an abortion too complete the cycle!!!

Joking aside, I personally see this as good news. Not quite on par with Britney having K-Fed's baby, but a close second.

  26. Mike   19 years ago

This post was a bit mis-leading. I had my hopes up that it had something to do with gin.
