Froth the Vote
Pennsylvania's doomed theo-Republican Sen. Rick Santorum has raised more than $20 million for his re-election bid - more than twice as much as he raised for his last campaign. And for some reason he's spending a chunk of it on this ad that's running on MTV.
First reaction: Where did they find a spokeskid who comes off like a cross between Christopher Paolini and Wesley Crusher? From the College Republicans, of course. And that's a brilliant move. Even when I was a Republican in college, I hated College Republicans.
Cheap shots aside, this ad's an interesting example of how the socially conservative wing of the GOP misunderstands the youth vote. The issues fronted here: Iraq, Medicare, and Social Security. All issues (sadly, in the last case) that give Democrats a huge advantage over Republicans.

Also, which youths, exactly, give a shit about Medicare? Social Security maybe, and Iraq sure, but Medicare? WTF?
How many MTV-watching yutes can even spell "Medicare," let alone explain it?
Of course, I'm sure this ad will generate a frothy mixture of excitement among the young.
What a huge waste of money. Didn't their media placement people explain to the compaign the the big Vote or Die program couldn't even get this crowd to vote, let alone vote for some tone-deaf politician?
The internet and television consultants are making a killing in politics. This is nothing more than someone's vanity commercial. If it's Santorums, that's his problem, but if his consultants pitched the idea to him, he gotted ripped off.
Gooberific.

Quoted for truth.
Judging from the Casey vs. Santorum debate last night, it's just desperation. The Frothmeister is lagging badly, and trying to pull anything he can out of the hat.
Ellipsis - That debate was useful as a Rorschach test for Casey and Santorum supporters. An honest assessment would be that Santorum out-shrilled Al Gore's performance at the first 2000 debate - he personally insulted Casey, accused him of fraud, rolled his eyes when Casey attacked him. And then Casey came off like Bush in 2000 - barely prepared, completely reliant on talking points.
But go and check what the partisans are saying about the debate. Republicans interpreted Santorum's antics as "tough" and impressive. Democrats say Casey totally nailed Santorum.

Yeah, even after P. Diddy started killing people.
What? Did you expect Lincoln and Douglas? 🙂
The campaign will fail because he didn't skate into the frame.
