Liebertarian?
Senator Joe Lieberman (D-Conn) says he plans to collect signatures to run as an unaffiliated candidate if he loses next month's primary. He's been getting a lot of flack over not being liberal enough.
If Lieberman wants to be a true "independent," he might read Jesse Walker's advice on how to be a half-decent Democrat.

Hmm... I predict that LIEbertarian will become the next blogger term to be used to describe self-proclaimed libertarians who fail the extreme conditions of the "libertarian purity test" (which is to say, nearly everyone who isn't wearing a tin foil helmet while polishing their M-16 in their New Hampshire compound).
Then again, maybe not.
I kind of doubt that a man who thinks it's prudent to censor videogames and Marilyn Manson could *ever* be described as remotely libertarian.
If libertarians could be described as socially liberal and economically conservative, I'd that Lieberman was socially conservative and economically liberal. In other words, not a libertarian.
I'm not even sure there is a political party that really fits him...
The party of Joementum.
Liebermantarian?
I've always hated that description, because "social liberals" can be just as oppressive as "social conservatives."
I'd vote for anyone who wasn't a certified psychopath, as long as they were not a member of the 2 main parties.
I couldn't help but notice that the link that reads "not being liberal enough" leads to a page in which there is absolutely no criticism of Lieberman for "not being liberal enough" anywhere in sight.
You aren't trying to sneak in criticism of the administration's handing of Iraq as "liberal," are you?
Liebertarian = Authoritarian
Joe is a fan of capitalism in a Marxist sort of way. He knows where the goods he wants to steal come from. A step up from most Dems.
He also is a supporter of the Iraq operation. Thus no chance with Libs. Although I would have voted for him over Bush if I'd had the chance. Cut 'n run Kerry (who sereved in 'Nam and cut and ran from that war after four months and three scratches) never had a chance with me.
When Mr. (in German) Lover Boy (one step removed from Dr. Strange Love) gets the "nihil obstat" and "imprimatur" from antiwar.com, then I'll be foursquare for him.
My, he's really living up to that "Sore Loserman" bumper sticker, isn't he?
?He knows where the goods he wants to steal come from. A step up from most Dems.?
Good stuff; I laughed out loud when I read it.
Anyone have any idea where that lame ass hand gesture JL is throwing comes from? Politician thumb; I imagine some focus group somewhere found it the most assertive yet least offensive hand gesture possible.
If Lieberman decides to run as an independent, I think the LP should endorse him on the condition that they get to beat the shit out of him after he wins.
"If Lieberman decides to run as an independent, I think the LP should endorse him on the condition that they get to beat the shit out of him after he wins."
After he wins? With the endorsement of the LP? That's not possible.
Mith-
All the more reason for the LP to endorse him, then.
And if my evil plan goes awry, and he actually wins, then we get to beat the shit out of him.
No matter who wins, he loses.

I thought the conventional wisdom on Lieberman was that his Democratic constituents were pissed off because they feel he doesn't represent their views on issues such as Iraq. This sort of thing http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1207783,00.html?promoid=rss_top
I'm not seeing any snarkiness, except I agree the referenced article was maybe kinda light on the "Why Dems Hate Lieberman" thing.

Are you imagining John Kerry in Vietnam as Neo from the Matrix, dodging shrapnel in bullet time slow motion?
In the real world nothing but luck separates a shrapnel scratch from a severed artery or worse.
I loved it when he said he was putting "principle over party" or some such. yeah, the principle of--him being a Senator. anyone who votes for him in the Democratic primary is a putz. "if I win...I win! and if I lose...I'm taking my ball and going home!" he's such a moralizing blow-hard, too. feh.

I'm guessing yeshiva. I'm told the rebbes like to gesture with their thumbs.
Dumb move. Now there's no pressing need for his supporters to go out and vote for him if he's gonna run anyway. Dumbass.
There is no difference between the two major political parties.
They're both as stupid, evil, and greedy as the Republicans.
I like the way you think, thoreau.

As I think of it, maybe the LP should forget about a "spoiler strategy" and instead adopt a "guilt by association strategy": If an incumbent really, really sucks then the LP will endorse him, and send a bunch of druids, smurfs, crazy survivalists, stoners, and transsexual strippers to campaign on behalf of the incumbent.
Jon H.,
You forgot one minor point. Nothing separates a three scratches and out guy from a wounded person with three wounds who did their whole tour except honor.
A concept Mr. Kerry does not seem very clear on. Like throwing some one else's medals over the fence.
White House correspondent Mark Knoller of CBS news is the most uncanny Lieberman soundalike I have ever heard. I was almost hoping that Gore would win in 2000 so that I could hear Knoller's stories about Lieberman's speeches on a regular basis. It was hard to tell where Joe left off and Mark began. You had to pay close attention!
Wow. On July 4th, no less.
Real classy, Simon.
Simon:
Since you've appointed yourself the official arbiter of honorable Vietnam service, why don't you walk in the footsteps of your glorious predecessors?
It's never too late to spit on Kerry and call him a "baby killer"...
Lieberman is a sad, sad man. He's stabbed the Democrats in the back without offering any real leadership. He supports an indefensible war. He's for government intervention in both culture and the economy. What does he stand for? Re-election is all he stands for. Here's hoping we never hear from him again.
M.Simon,
Well done. You've effectively elevated running away from service (Bush-style) above being sent to a war, getting injured there, and speaking out against war (one that even the Secretary of Defense was against). Posts like yours are what makes LSD illegal. Of course, anyone who says "cut'n'run" or any variation is already wrong in the head.

No, I think it will be the new liberal-through-outright leftist insult ala "corporatarians". If AmazingD-R-X still showed up, he'd love it, I'm sure.
