Godzilla vs. Mothra! Hillary Vs. Coulter!
Sen. Hillary Clinton has denounced Ann Coulter's new book Godless as a "vicious, mean-spirited attack," reads a press release from World Ahead Publishing, pushers of the recent anti-Mrs. Clinton tome I've Always Been a Yankee Fan.
World Ahead is running an online poll "to allow the American people to vote on the most offensive statements uttered by this power-hungry politician." Among the sample quotes:
"These women are all trash. No one will believe them."
(Hillary's opinion of women who claimed a relationship with her husband: p 69.)"Guiliani will screw you every time."
(About the then-Mayor of New York: p 57.)"Bill, now be sure to point Juanita out."
(Looking to have a word with the woman who claimed Bill Clinton raped her: p 72.)"You all remember Mahatma Ghandi. He ran a gas station down in St. Louis."
(Hillary at a fundraiser: p 94.)"She's a short, Irish bitch."
(On columnist Maureen Dowd: p 93.)

More fun quotes--personal fave: "Where is the goddamn fucking flag? I want the goddamn fucking flag up every fucking morning at fucking sunrise."--here.
Dunno about the rest of you, but quotes like these make me like HRC more, not less.
World Ahead Publishing, btw, are the fine folks who so loved the world that they offered Help! Mom! There are liberals under my bed! unto it.

She's no Martha Logan, that's for sure.
If we must have a former First Lady on the ballot in 2008, could it be Jean Smart, the actress who played the crazy wife of the evil President on 24?
crazy like a fox
An attack from Hillary Clinton? Coulter couldn't ask for better publicity.

Screw that, I want Dennis Haysbert to run. Palmer 08
"She's a short, Irish bitch."
I'm no lover of Hillary, but when she's right she's right.
Love the Ghandi joke.
I'm beginning to think that maybe Bill didn't have a bad taste in women. He was just so desperate to get away from Hillary that he tried to grab the first woman he saw.
OK, Haysbert for President, and Jean Smart for VP.
Eh, it's tough to get too down on a woman for being rude to people accusing her husband of cheating on her. If she calm, cool, and collected through the entire humiliating episode, that would have been offensive.
OTOH, saying that women whose husbands died on 9/11 are "enjoying their husbands' deaths" is just inhuman.

joe,
Agreed, and I don't really see any point in Coulter's attacking them other that her usual "people who disagree with my politics are the worst people imaginable. See they're enjoying their husbands deaths and don't care about punishing all muslims".
Unsurprisingly, Coulter misses the point. In most of the ways that matter, 9/11 really did happen only to the victims and the families.
Jesse's right about the free publicity. Jesus, how stupid is Hillary for taking the bait? Suggested responses for the next time a reporter mentions Coulter: "I can't possibly take her seriously"; or "I have no interest in promoting her book."
Stupid? Hillary Clinton just got her name in the news for standing up to a despicable person attacking 9/11 victims.
What do think, Hillary Clinton's top priority is to reduce Ann Coulter's book sales?
If I ever write a book I will pay important people to criticize it.
"Doctor thoreau's treatment of optical methods in biophysics is some of the worst drivel ever. It's an insult to generations of biophysicists to suggest that his naive phenomenological models can be combined with a few clever optical tricks and somehow gain insight!"
--William F. Buckley
"I suggest that he read Born and Wolf's treatment of diffraction-limited imaging before he embarrasses himself any further."
--French Defense Minister
"He's smoking some seriously messed up stuff if he thinks that a phenomenological approach to biological systems can match up with ab initio methods."
--Nancy Pelosi
"Geez, even I wouldn't write a physics book this bad!"
--John Kerry
I'm not a big HRC fan, but this list of quotes reminds me of those "10 most dangerous" lists published by Human Events. If this is as bad as it gets with HRC, I guess she's not nearly as bad as I thought. I guess the people at World Ahead get the vapors pretty easily.
Um, why is "Guiliani will screw you every time" offensive?
you could have at least stated 'rude to people her husband cheated on her with'. Haven't they both admitted he cheats on her, and isn't it offensive she hasn't dumped him, big strong smart feminist that she is? i know i know, bush lied and all accusations against him are true, but God forbid anyone believe Bill cheats on Hilary, especially when they both admit it.
Kevin,
I wouldn't be so sure. Hilary has been pissing off the lefties by not being anti-war enough, among other things. If she gets in a fued with someone like Coulter these disaffected lefties may rally around Hilary. Didn't activists and academics and the like, who were pissed at Bill Clinton over NAFTA, welfare-reform and Don't Ask Don't Tell, rally around him when they thought he was under attack for his sexual adventures?
You and Jesse are obviously right that this is good publicity for Coulter, but making Coulter rich(er) doesn't hurt Hilary. It is very possible that both of them will benefit from being seen as vigourous scrappers.
I will pay important people to criticize it.
Sometimes you have to write a book with the critics you have, T. Don't forget to gmail me those galleys.
Glad to know you care, Dave!
🙂
No Joe, I don't think it's Hillary's duty to reduce Coulter's sales. I just think the depicable nature of her 9/11 comments are self-evident and deserve silence, not the public response she craves.
"Um, why is 'Guiliani will screw you every time' offensive?"
Because Rudy Giuliani is a True American Hero, joe. He would never screw anybody. Except for women he isn't married to.
Or, if you prefer, "despicable".
In my more paranoid times, I have wondered if Coulter isn't really a left wing operative. I have also wondered if Micheal Moore isn't sectretly a right wing operative.
I am just saying, as ridiculos as some of the stuff is that they spout.
I have also read about people close to the two of them saying that they don't really believe what they say. I mean Ann Coulter dated a moslem, and MM was caught on camera talking with a CEO about how he didn't really believe the shit.
Does anyone have a take on whether HC believes that her husband raped Juanita? I would think she would have to at least entertain the possibility.
Good point, Mitch. Rhetoric--especially the obviously safe kind like this--never hurt a politician. In fact, it's expected. So, on the count, you're right, as is Joe. It just burns me to see Coulter trolling and benefiting from it.
Thoreau,
Buckley's attack on your thesis is spot on. I was thinking the same thing. Take your optical parlour tricks elsewhere you snake-oil salesman!
What kills me is Ann trying to fault people for using 9-11 to score political points and personally profit when she shamelessly uses 9-11 to score political points and make a profit.
It would be like someone yelling, "What the fuck is wrong with you inconsiderate pieces of shit that can't stop fucking swearing?"
Thoreau,
If the scientific community continues to try to marginalize you with hurtful blurbs, maybe you can make nice with this guy http://www.theonion.com/content/node/49180.
It just burns me to see Coulter trolling and benefiting from it.
Hasn't that been her entire career? Or for that matter, the careers of most of our pundit class?
"isn't it offensive she hasn't dumped him, big strong smart feminist that she is?"
I guess some people consider their marriages disposable, and other people don't. And no, nobody has admitted that anything regarding Juanit Broderick took place. Also, at the time each of those quotes was made, the accusations had not been proven true, and people tend to go into denial about their spouse's cheatin. Let me know when you get to the part that I've denied that Bill Clinton cheated on his wife. Mmmkay?
When did HRC say that about Maureen Dowd? I find that kind of hate speech reprehensible.
Ted Rall made basically the same comments about 9/11 widows a couple years back - people on the right were outraged and horrified. Ann Coulter suggested that the 9/11 planes should've hit the NYTimes building - lefties were outraged and horrified. All depends on the ox being gored, the boots being licked, the nose being browned, the petard - wait. What is a petard anyway?
I guess some people consider their marriages disposable, and other people don't...
At least not when it would be political suicide. Then again, "Guiliani will screw you every time" maybe she got some payback.
Isn't Maureen Dowd on the same team as Hillary? Isn't Dowd one of the ones that support Clinton no matter what news comes out against him?
I wonder why Hillary doesn't like her. I mean besides the fact that she's a short Irish bitch
"It was honestly so bad, I'm embarrassed to give out the title, or admit that I read it."
Awww! Come on! Now I wanna know.
Molon Labe by Boston T. Party.
It's fucking terrible. As a looney-ass libertarian, I found myself going "WTF?! This guy is making libertarianism look bad."
Before this turns into a "who's worse: Coulter or Hillary?" debate, let's just remember that one of them is paid to be a nasty right-wing moutpiece. The other is supposed to be representing US.
That said, I think they're both pretty despicable.
Haven't they both admitted he cheats on her, and isn't it offensive she hasn't dumped him, big strong smart feminist that she is?
is an excellent point. And I think the most offensive thing a feminist could possibly say is "No one will believe them. They're trashy women." WTF? Even if she was in denial about Bill at that time, she should have her feminist card forcibly taken from her.
kwais,
I think this was during the Monica scandals when Dowd was being moralistic and preachy and absolutely obsessed with the entire thing. It won her a Pulitzer, I beleive. She even got good ink from the National Review for it.
"These women are all trash. No one will believe them." (Hillary's opinion of women who claimed a relationship with her husband: p 69.)
they can't be all bad right...i mean they have the same taste in men she does.
At the risk of taking this too seriously . . .
The quotes from Hillary all appear to be things she said without more than a second's premeditation. Coulter's poo was carefully composed for publication.
So (A) Coulter is much the despicabler of the two, and (B) Hilary has much more raw talent.
Main Entry: petard
Pronunciation: p&-'t?d)
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle French, from peter to break wind, from pet expulsion of intestinal gas, from Latin peditum, from neuter of peditus, past participle of pedere to break wind; akin to Greek bdein to break wind
1 : a case containing an explosive to break down a door or gate or breach a wall
2 : a firework that explodes with a loud report

"You scratch my back and I'll scratch your record and I thought you said we had a deal" -- seems like both parties benefit from this -- Hillary gets props from most circles, including independent voters, and Coulter's fading star gets a brief recharge...
Penguin,
"At least not when it would be political suicide."
That's extremely ungenerous. They had a young daughter in their home at the time, and you're jumping right to the conclusion that her only motivation was her career?
I'm disappointed that she couldn't work shallow and insipid into that screed about Dowd.
My hope is the wall that the Times hides their op-eds behind is topped with concertina wire and patrolled by German Shepherds. The less I hear from Dowd, the better.
i think we all fell into the bait of Coulter. The fact that we are all talking about her. She is a nobody. All she wants is just publicity. She is a female version of pat Robertson. I just compare her to Courtney Love and Paris Hilton as trash as one can be.javy

Is it possible to say that more then one interest can be pursude in one action? Oh wait I forgot who I am talking to...all nobel actions have to be selfless in order to be valid.
It was honestly so bad, I'm embarrassed to give out the title, or admit that I read it.
Come on mediageek, no one will think any less of you for having read Atlas Shrugged.
Ann Coulter cannot get any lower after her comments on the 9/11 victims and their families. What have they done to her, except not let her manipulate them for her agenda? That is high heresy for her, isn't it?
Who died and made her Pope? Or Grand Inquisidor?
(Obligator MP reference)
Ann Coulter proves one thing.
She is a blond...
