Reason Writers Around Town

Notwithstanding his conspicuous lack of piercings or tattoos, Jacob Sullum has finally made it onto the Web's top alternaporn site, SuicideGirls. No photo sets up yet, but since you read it for the articles anyway, you may as well start with this interview with Daniel Robert Epstein. (Nothing racy at this link, though the rest of the site is NSFW.)

  1. The domain name is enough to advise against reading this at work.

  2. “NSFW”

Not suitable for women? Weirdos? Wookies?

    Explain, por favor.

  3. NSFW= Not Safe For Work as in your employer would most likely have a chat with you if he discovered you were visiting (or trying to visit) that URL.

  4. Not suitable for women? Weirdos? Wookies?

    No Suitable Fargin Women

I forgot how ghastly these chicks really are. 🙂 But then, that’s the stchick. Besides, somebody must be into this stuff otherwise SG wouldn’t be that popular.

  5. “alternaporn site, SuicideGirls”

Seriously? That really makes me wonder what sicko kind of porn is on that site. Since when to suicide and sex go together? Ewww.

That’s disturbing enough to avoid the articles, too, I think.

If anyone is brave enough to check it out and let me know that what I’m picturing right now is NOT the case, please do so.

  6. It really has nothing to do with suicide. It’s mostly just hot punkish chicks.

  7. linguist:

I couldn’t help but laugh when i read your post.

Suicidegirls is just a bunch of hot goth chicks with sexy pics. Geez… 🙂

  8. Non-Stop Furry Wookies

  9. The linked-to article is not bad at all. It fits in well with Peter Bagge’s cartoon posted earlier today.

I would have to say that his comment about what was tried in NV didn’t have any chance passing. There are just as many Puritanical, prudish control freaks in local government here as there are in Utah.

  10. There’s nothing not work-safe at the link.

There’s plenty that’s not brain-safe though. SG needs a damn copy editor. Punctuation, motherfucker, do you speak it?

  11. Boy, and this was on the main page of reason. I don’t like it much when reason links from their main page to stuff that is on other sites, but usually I just get an annoying request to register. This time, my company’s firewall popped up to let me know that I couldn’t access the site and why. So now it will show up on some report about attempted accesses blocked by the firewall. Why put this on the main site without warning? In fact, why put any content on the main site that isn’t owned by the reason publication?

I have got to learn to actually look at the URL *before* I click, even if I am starting on a site I think is safe!

  12. Since when to suicide and sex go together?

Depens on who or what you wake up next to;)

  13. NSFW–NOW you tell me. Next time, could you have a warning on the article itself?

  14. Used to be a member, I like hot goth chicks- sue me. I actually started enjoying their forums for awhile, until it became more than clear how many of the folks on the site walk in lock goose-step with the standard ideology of the common post-millenial tatooed Che disciple. (In soporific monotone) “Stop factory farming… people not profits… free tibet… the election was stolen… kill all businessmen…” I should have known better.

  15. It’s mostly just hot punkish chicks.

    And how!

I’ve always had a thing for the punky/goth set, but being a conservatively dressed soft-spoken nerdy type you can imagine that this really just results in them being somewhat unatainable.

    Which makes them even hotter.

    and therefore even more unatainable.

  16. 8 o’clock, Monday night and I’m waitin’
To finally talk to a girl a little cooler than me.
Her name is Nona, she’s a rocker with a nose ring,
She wears a two way, but I’m not quite sure what that means.

    And when she walks,
All the wind blows and the angels sing.
    She doesn’t notice me!

    Cause she is watchin’ wrestling
    Creamin’ over tough guys
    Listenin’ to rap metal
    Turntables in her eyes

    It’s like a bad movie
    She is lookin’ through me
If you were me, then you’d be
    Screamin’, “Someone shoot me!”
    As I fail miserably,
Tryin’ to get the girl all the bad guys want.
She’s the girl all the bad guys want!

She likes the Godsmack and I like Agent Orange
Her CD changer’s full of singers that are mad at their dad
She says she’d like to score some reefer and a forty
She’ll never know that I’m the best that she’ll never have…

    There she goes again
With fishnets on, and dreadlocks in her hair
She broke my heart, I wanna be sedated
All I wanted was to see her naked!

    Now I am watchin’ wrestling
Tryin’ to be a tough guy
    Listenin’ to rap metal
    Turntables in my eyes
    I can’t grow a mustache
And I ain’t got no season pass
    All I got’s a moped…moped….moped…..

    It’s like a bad movie
    She is lookin’ through me
If you were me, then you’d be
    Screamin’, “Someone shoot me!”
    As I fail miserably,
Tryin’ to get the girl all the bad guys want…

  17. Ouch.

Suffice it to say, I’ve relegated the whole alternagirl thing to the back of my mind and just go out with girls who Mom would, at a glance, approve of.
