From the State That Gave Us Devo and the Tafts
Remember that Ohio Patriot Act? The state senate just passed it unanimously.

Ouch! De-evolution indeed...
Sure am glad I'm moving to New Hampshire. Live free or die?

BARKEEP!
The first statute of the Ohio Patriot Act is that you may no longer talk about the Ohio Patriot Act.
The Ohio what?
Exactly.
Thank goodness. I know the terrorists have Akron, Lima, Steubenville (birthplace of Dean Martin), and Springfield on the top of their lists.
Don't forget the first rule of this and several other states:
Rule 1: NO puffters!
Well, if the terrorists absolutely MUST attack, might I suggest the Ohio legislature as a place to start?
You mean your names not Bruce? Must be a terrorist.
it is weird how people living in places which are unlikely targets are far more frightened than people living in obvious targets.

The reverse seems true as well. So while NYC went 80% Kerry, West Bumblefuck, Montana was passing citywide anti-pocket-lazer-pointer ordinance.
This is enough of a phenomenon to deserve a name.
On the other hand, the Ohio DUI license plates are sort of nice. Unfortunately you can't buy them. You have to be convicted of DUI to get one for your pickup truck with the gun rack. It's pretty stylish, from what I've seen.
dhex,
No it's actually not; it's one of the oldest tales we know.
All Glory to the Homeland, you traitorous bastards.
(I'm practicing)
Pavel,
First, so as not to be misunderstood about the comment I am about to make, Kerry is an idiot.
When you live in a city, you are aware, first hand, how much more dangerous a Soviet style Texan is than a bumbling liberal.
The later will put you in a shower with a rapist and be surprised that you got raped, the former will find the rapist, and encourage him.
you know, Wright-Patt Air Force Base is in Dayton.
That's where the government is keeping the aliens!!!
I wonder how Ruthless will respond? My first guess is that most of the State's laws aren't fully applied in the semi-autonomous zone of Over-the-Rhine. But when the police do show up, they can now be even more objectionable.
Hey, you can't sum up the contributions of Ohio with just Taft.
Great Ohio contributions include: Jerry Springer (former mayor of Cincinnati), Carmen Electra, McKinley, The Guy Who Shot McKinley, the Mapplethorpe fiasco, and Dennis Kucinich.
On that note, I'm with PintOfStout, off to NH to live free. I'll miss you Carmen....
[sigh]. Where's the fuckin' Friday Fun link!?!
I'm looking into the Free State Project.
OK, in all fairness, Ohio is the home of the Cleveland Orchestra, the best classical radio station I've heard yet, and a fantastic art museum. I don't live there now, but those would be the first things I'd miss on my way to NH. Of course, you wouldn't be too far from the BSO...
And where's the damn fun link?!
Myself and Bruce are both Ohioans--in location only!
(BTW. We're also members of the Philoshophy Depaatment with a couple of other blokes named Bruce.)
TheRev: Don't forget Pere Ubu!
When I write the capstone to my career, a hefty tome called Why Ohio Is the Weirdest State in America, and Yes That Includes Utah, it will be dedicated to Devo, Pere Ubu, Kucinich, and Traficant. I'll hit up Springer for a blurb.
You beat me to Traficant!
Under another section of the bill, information provided to law enforcement about vulnerabilities at chemical plants and others "critical infrastructure facilities" would be exempt from Ohio's Public Records Act.
Because we all know, making security an all-government affair is a good idea for our safety. Because it follows that we all know that government workers are the hardest, most honest workers we can think of. And because we all know, an ignorant populace is best. Does anyone here recall the Davis-Besse plant fiasco? As a member of the general public, even if it scares the bejezus out of me, I want to know if a nuclear power plant is about to blow. Guess I'll be in the dark from now on....
....speaking of the Cleveland Orchestra and Devo: I am going to see a movie at another one of Cleveland's fine institutions this weekend, The Cleveland Cinematheque, which is a music documentary about no-wave/new-wave/post-punk/etc. bands including segments about Pere Ubu and Devo.
Also, I am going to see the Cleveland Orchestra perform tomorrow...I am only mentioning these things since people brought up Pere Ubu, Devo, and the Cleveland Orchestra....
Just think, if Ohio had passed this law sooner there's no way those terrorists would have been able to take control of those nuclear power plants.
Oh, wait, that was on 24. Never mind.
sorry, my last post was unclear. The Cleveland Cinematheque is the film venue, the movie is called "Urgh! A Music War"
I guess it's as good a time as any to pack it up and move to Oaxaca. If I can keep my mouth shut long enough to stay out of jail...
We could sure use a guy like Robert A. Taft now!
The Republican Road Not Taken: The Foreign-Policy Vision of Robert A. Taft
http://www.independent.org/publications/tir/article.asp?issueID=13&articleID=37
Of course, the current Governor Taft sucks, as he is a big spending, big government type. We won't expect him to veto this.
Motivated by popular demand (I've gotten three emails) I was just thinking about bringing back the "Friday Gratuitous New Wave Link". So here it is, not really so gratuitous this time but it's...
DEVO!
Hey Jesse said Devo in a blog title! I'm tellen ya, New Wave is just timeless. Gotta love those spuds:

One of my fave songs from them is "Girl U Want". Good video too.

I would like to suggest The Readily Observed Universal Signs of Elevated-Risk-Perception-Inversion Syndrome (TROUSERPIS).
(I started off with "Risk Perception Inversion Syndrome" but tried to come up with a better acronym.)
Hello, I am looking for future, present or past law school students to help create a blog to provide resources for law students. If anyone out there that would like to help, send me some mail or check out the beta: objectivejustice.blogspot.com
