Perle of Wisdom
Richard Perle has resigned from the Defense Policy Board. According to the Seattle Times, on Feb. 18 he told Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld that he was quitting so the Bush administration and the Pentagon ?would no longer be associated with his outspoken views.?
This is what Perle wrote:
?We are now approaching a long presidential election campaign, in the course of which issues on which I have strong views will be widely discussed and debated?I would not wish those views to be attributed to you or the president at any time, and especially not during a presidential campaign.?
The Times recalled:
In recent weeks, Perle has called for the resignation of CIA Director George Tenet, criticized Secretary of State Colin Powell and other senior U.S. officials as "soft-liners" and urged the Bush administration to consider pulling out of the United Nations if the agency doesn't legalize preemptive attacks on states that harbor terrorists.
Is Perle so selfless as to resign on Bush?s behalf? Now say that again without howling with laughter. Either someone told Perle to walk, I'm guessing, or he wants to leverage his position while this administration is still in office.

Recalled by the Bavarian Illuminati for debreifing and consulatation, I suppose.
Guess he needs to be in Afganistan unofficially for Osama's questioning.
Blood in the water! Blood in the water!
Ever since the Russert interview, GW has been hemorrhaging more and more. Now even the long-since-relevant Gary Trudeau is taking juicy bites out him.
I shudder to think about life under the Kerry administration, but I'm going to be laughing and cheering watching Bush go down. Of course we won't get the genuine satisfaction that comes with prison sentences like we did with Nixon. Still it's fun to watch them squirm.
I think what this means is that Bush is going to follow the Perle prescription pretty much down the line.
perhaps his fuglyness got in the way of his inner beauty?

Gary Trudeau? Attacking a Republican President? What are the odds.
Perle's no idiot. He's already cashed in via Global Crossing/Boeing/Trireme/book contract.
It's a matter of diminishing returns. The fun warmongering stuff's over; who wants to stick around for the finger-pointing game?

Raimondo has a really interesting piece on this:

This is a brazen attempt at misdirection from the man who is arguably most responsible for the lies and their perpetuation that led the administration and the rest of us into war on Iraq.

Many of theses falsehoods are now being made apparent and Perle is engaging in an ironic attempt to shift the blame to the agency that was reticent to fall in line with the hysterical statements from his cohorts in the Pentagon.
Perle seems to have no compunctions what so ever concerning duplicity. It's frightening that someone like this would come to be so influential with the government.
Perhaps he should have been dealt with more severely in 1970 when, while working for Sen. "Scoop" Jackson"s office, he was caught on a NSA wiretap giving classified information to the Israeli Embassy:

Perle will almost certainly maintain strong informal connections with the administration, and use them to make lucrative insider deals. He'll probably hire himself out as a lobbyist to Israel and sell them all his insider knowledge.
As for his threatened libel actions, don't hold your breath. He's not that stupid. Every filthy, corrupt, rotten, sleazy, sociopathic thing he's ever done in his entire career (IOW, everything he's ever done) would be dragged through court. He'd probably wind up blowing his own brains out in disgrace.

Ole Warren, he's too young to remember the rope-a-dope.
re: rope-a-dope
Bush's # 1 tactics is to get his opposition to firmly stake out a position, then he proceeds to destroy that position.

I warned of this almost a year ago. Hasn't any one been paying attention?
Things appear to be improving in Iraq. The Iraqi military and police are taking over more of the day to day security. Sistani has said that full handover can wait for at least 9 more months.
Bush is probably going to surprise you.
I put it down to the supremely American character of our troops.
Have you considered what your next move will be if Bush is right and you are wrong about Iraq?
I say he is still vulnerable on medical marijuana. But everyone seems mesmerized by the war. Typical magic trick: attack my strength. Ignore my weakness. By the time you guys figure out Bush's real weakness the election will be over.
I got to give him credit. Bush can put one over on his enemies as easily as he dupes the sheeple.
What a guy.
"I say he is still vulnerable on medical marijuana."
You must be dreaming if you think that issue is going to occupy more than 10 seconds in the mind of 90 percent of the voters. Get real.

I believe that all government is evil, and that trying to improve it is largely a waste of time.
