Perle of Wisdom

|

Richard Perle has resigned from the Defense Policy Board. According to the Seattle Times, on Feb. 18 he told Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld that he was quitting so the Bush administration and the Pentagon ?would no longer be associated with his outspoken views.?

This is what Perle wrote:

?We are now approaching a long presidential election campaign, in the course of which issues on which I have strong views will be widely discussed and debated?I would not wish those views to be attributed to you or the president at any time, and especially not during a presidential campaign.?

The Times recalled:

In recent weeks, Perle has called for the resignation of CIA Director George Tenet, criticized Secretary of State Colin Powell and other senior U.S. officials as "soft-liners" and urged the Bush administration to consider pulling out of the United Nations if the agency doesn't legalize preemptive attacks on states that harbor terrorists.

Is Perle so selfless as to resign on Bush?s behalf? Now say that again without howling with laughter. Either someone told Perle to walk, I'm guessing, or he wants to leverage his position while this administration is still in office.
