Jennifer Lopez is being sued by Maureen Marder because JLo used the movie Flashdance as a template for one of her recent videos.

Marder claims that the movie was based on her life as a construction worker by day, dancer by night.

One thing I could never get about Flashdance (the movie). Are there actually clubs where men pay for overpriced, watered drinks while they watch NON-NAKED women dance?

I did get a fully clothed (OK, G-string and pasties) table dance in New Orleans once, but there were still bare titties on the stage. I haven't watched Flashdance in ages, and wouldn't be caught dead renting/buying it today, but I don't recall any nudity among the dancers.

This appears to be similar to the Chuck Wepner lawsuit against the Rocky movies. Neither of which seems to have much merit after the passage of so many years before issues are brought up.

I don't think it matters how long it's been -- these suits wouldn't have merit if they were brought right away.

The reason is, you don't own the rights to your life story. Someone can write a biography of you without your consent, or make a movie or a music video based on your life.

As least, that's my understanding. I'm no lawyer.

The one thing I recall about "Flashdance" comes from the movie "The Full Monty." Where the rotund character (Gerald I think) comments, when the boys are watching "Flashdance" to pick up tips on exotic dancing, that her "mix is all to cock" when she welds.

I beleive that Maureen Marder is making a HUGE deal out of this. As Steve from CA wrote, anyone can take your life's story and make it into a movie. I find it incredibly ridiculous as well that she thinks that this is like a biography of her life. It is a video, not a documentary! Either its me or something else but I don't see what all the hubb-bubb is all about.
