She's a Maniac, a Maniac
Jennifer Lopez is being sued by Maureen Marder because JLo used the movie Flashdance as a template for one of her recent videos.
Marder claims that the movie was based on her life as a construction worker by day, dancer by night.

Lopez's video could be considered parody of the movie. It's so bad, it's funny.
Marder might have a good case against Paramount, though it's odd that it took her so long to come forward.
I thought that video was a semi comical homage. Lopez looks pretty nice in that one, as I recall.
One thing I could never get about Flashdance (the movie). Are there actually clubs where men pay for overpriced, watered drinks while they watch NON-NAKED women dance?
I did get a fully clothed (OK, G-string and pasties) table dance in New Orleans once, but there were still bare titties on the stage. I haven't watched Flashdance in ages, and wouldn't be caught dead renting/buying it today, but I don't recall any nudity among the dancers.
If she didn't make a case against Paramount, she doesn't have a shot now. Unless she was in a coma all this time but when her husband yanked her tube she was shocked out her stupor...
This appears to be similar to the Chuck Wepner lawsuit against the Rocky movies. Neither of which seems to have much merit after the passage of so many years before issues are brought up.
I don't think it matters how long it's been -- these suits wouldn't have merit if they were brought right away.
The reason is, you don't own the rights to your life story. Someone can write a biography of you without your consent, or make a movie or a music video based on your life.
As least, that's my understanding. I'm no lawyer.
Beats workin'.
The one thing I recall about "Flashdance" comes from the movie "The Full Monty." Where the rotund character (Gerald I think) comments, when the boys are watching "Flashdance" to pick up tips on exotic dancing, that her "mix is all to cock" when she welds.

That's true, so Marder should not be entitled to anything from Lopez.
But Paramount, who does have a copyright in "Flashdance," could make a case against J-Lo. In fact, hasn't there already been a dust up over this?

Flashdance was an unbelievably stupid movie. I think it was even a step down from Saturday Night Fever, if that's possible.
I beleive that Maureen Marder is making a HUGE deal out of this. As Steve from CA wrote, anyone can take your life's story and make it into a movie. I find it incredibly ridiculous as well that she thinks that this is like a biography of her life. It is a video, not a documentary! Either its me or something else but I don't see what all the hubb-bubb is all about.
Yep,but I hear Maureen Marder is paralyzed and broke with a teenage daughter and made a little over $2,000 from the Flashdance movie. Can't blame her for trying.
One of the problems with the world today is that there's so many people tryin' to get somethin' for nothin'. Case in Point.
